    The lack of computer monitor support for HDMI 2.1 is due to DisplayPort being the standard for PC gamers - DisplayPort has supported higher FPS at higher resolutions than HDMI for a long time, and monitors require a DisplayPort to take advantage of their most advanced features for this reason. Because DisplayPort is the more advanced standard, modern PC video cards have multiple DisplayPort connections, and only one HDMI connection for people with older or less advanced monitors.

      Correct, the only "advantage" of HDMI these days is HDCP copy protection.

    Just FYI the ridge wallet can and does hold more than 12 cards. It just makes it want to pop open if you hit it right. I've been rocking more than 12 for over a year now but it does cause some minor issues but the wallet is solid and built to last. You can also replace the band that helps hold the wallet together.

    Most of the gaming monitors don’t need hdmi 2.1 because to achieve higher FPS and 240hz and higher they use display port. Even before hdmi 2.1 144hz could be achieved over dvi. 5 years ago. Some TVs use display port for 8k

    VRR and ALLM are not hdmi 2.1 specific. Hdmi 2.0b can support it.

      "This VRR format is part of the HDMI 2. 1 spec and is starting to appear on a fair few TVs, even some that officially have only HDMI 2.0 sockets. It's also worth noting that a TV that supports HDMI 2.1 won't definitely support HDMI VRR, although it is likely."

    Hey Chris! I have been watching a ton of your videos lately trying to figure out which projector to get around $1 - 1.5k and I am debating between the TK800m, HT3550, and the UHD30. (if I missed any around that price range that you recommend let me know especially because Black Fri/Cyber Mon are coming up) I keep going back and forth between these and I can't decide what to pull the trigger on. I have about a 15' throw distance, I will be gaming sometimes, and there will be low ambient light since it will be in a living room if this makes a difference in what you would recommend. Thanks for all the hard work and great videos!

    I just recently purchased a ps5. I own an outdated projector that throws 100inches that I use for gaming. I will be updating and I need to update to hdmi 2.1 and 120hz. I'm torn because I love the big screen gaming affect and the most affordable twlevisions with those specs are 85 inches. Do you think I should patiently wait for new gaming projectors with compatible specs? I really like the short throw 4k projectors but they don't have hdmi 2.1

    Unfortunately projectors still only have 2.0. Would connecting at 2.1 cable into a lesser version be beneficial? Also is there a Max limit in length for 4K 60 ? I heard the max is 24ft but I don't know if that's true.

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes pretty much all projectors are limited to 2.0 other than the upcoming LG. The only benefit I can really see on a 4k @ 60hz device would be VRR. Yes there is a max length depending on cable type. Take a look at the Best HDMI cables video I did earlier this year for more info on that but long story short, if you plan on sending 4K @ 60hz over a distance longer than 25ft then you should use a Fiber HDMI cable.

    • @TheChefComic
      @TheChefComic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @LEO UR All HDMI versions (2.1, 2.0 and 1.4) are backwards compatible with the previous versions that came before them. It wouldn't hurt quality plugging in a HDMI 2.1 cable into a 2.0 capable device at all. But it would not be beneficial, it will automatically detect signal format and simply drop the format from HDMI 2.1 to 2.0. We can also assume that a theoretical speed in HDMI 2.1 of 48 GBps will have a stronger signal integrity over longer runs of cable compared to the HDMI 2.0, 18 GBps.

    Wouldn't even class the PS5 as an HDMI 2.1 device personally. It doesn't support variable refresh rate which is basically a necessity these days, also doesn't support 8K at all, you can't output it from the console right now even though the box has a big 8K badge and also the HDMI bandwidth is only 32Gbps which isn't the standard of 40-48Gbps, this results in sub standard chroma subsampling (colour depth) of 4:2:2 instead of full 4:4:4 when running at 120Hz.

    As a tech person he is incorrect 8k TV's are extremely expensive it might be another 7 to 8 years before you see games made in 8k. 4k development at the moment is very costly and 4k tv's are now replacing 1080p Tv's as the prices are affordable and no longer the days when they first came out over 10 grand for a TV. 8k is still going to push you in the thousands at least 3 to 4 grand and LG signature oled 88 inch still is priced at $30k. The best TV for all around quality and price at the moment is hands down the x900h. There's countless videos from tech guys reviewing the TV comparing the top LGcx which by far has the best picture hands down and color wise but suffers from potential oled burn in. Yet Sony x900h series is hdmi 2.1, VRR, Allm, Dolby vision 4k 120hz and more. If you missed out on the black Friday steal where the 65 inch x900h was on sale for $999 from the original price of $1400 a $400 savings. Hopefully they restock the TV because all sizes from 55 to 75 are sold out on Amazon. I got mine from best buy as soon as the price dropped last Sunday starting black Friday sales. Cyber Monday they might go back on sale and restock. Back to 4k gaming they are now just introducing games at 4k 120 but can't lock a capped 4k 120hz so it will be when stronger consoles are out or a ps5 pro where you will see a capped native 4k and capped stable 120fps. 8k I think there is one pc game developed that is 8k. As far as 8k will be upscaled on a game but no where near native. People just focus on 4k which again is now officially the norm as my 1080p Sony died 2 months ago signaling it was time to upgrade. Overall this guy is right about needing to upgrade your TV to see the true benefit of VRR and ALLM.

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get an 8k TV for $2000 right now. Prices will only get lower over the next year or 2. I do agree with what you said about 8k gaming though. These systems struggle enough with rendering 4k so 8k gaming (although possible) isn't really realistic.

      The PS5 cable is capable of over 40Gbps, the console itself isn't. It's capped at 32Gbps for some reason right now.
