@@SaneManiac_MG I'm kind of torn right now between a 4k 60hz, or a 1080p 120hz right now at my price range. I don't really play a ton of games that I would need a 120hz display for. Currently eyeing the ASUS VG289Q.
This is not a trivial question, and definitively there is more to it than meets the eye. With PS5 you really want to have a monitor that can do 4k60 and 1080p120 with 10bit color in the panel itself. No dithering needed, and this can be met with HDMI 2.0. The problem is that there are very few reasonably priced good panels available, regardless of 2.0 or 2.1. The Asus TUF, Gigabyte M28U etc. are good 2.1 options with more reasonable price, but they use 8bit panel, which I consider a limitation especially on 1080p where dithering is not as good. The LG 950 GN (2.0) and GP (2.10 both have the 10 bit panel to meet the spec, but are more expensive. Then there are some very expensive choices on top of these. In any case, I would only go for HDMI 2.1 versions, it is far more versatile than 2.0.

@@1BadVan yeah. These consoles aren’t even close to their full potentially. I believe when the Xbox mesh shaders and the ps5’s primitive shaders get used things will be mind blown

Just bought the Eve Spectrum 4K. For a PC gamer HDMI 2.1 monitors are absolutely worth it if you already have a high-end GPU and want to play at 4K and high refresh rates without chroma subsampling or using DSC. Being able to play at 4K 120Hz with full HDR and no compromises is amazing, and unlike consoles all games support 4K 120Hz because PC. :)
I agree that a better HDR screen is more important than 4K, but you say that it’s better to get a 1080P monitor with HDR support. It’s important to note that there are very few displays that are limited to 1080p and come with Good HDR performance, or even HDR whatsoever. Also, the Xbox itself does not support HDR at 1080P whatsoever, same goes with 1440P, as the Xbox defaults to HDMI 1.4a pipeline when using those resolutions, HDR is only available at 4K on Xbox consoles.
Good points there, but a good HDR tv needs to be at least 1000 nits for brightness. Also it's good to have HGIG tone mapping capable. It's a plus you don't want double tone mapping HDR. It will just create unnecessary input lag with console and TV tone mapping. Dynamic HDR is a bust for gaming unless you don't care about FPS or input lag.
@@predacon8257 100% I totally agree. 1000 nits is minimum for a good HDR experience, you’ll also want a 10-bit panel, that’s OLED or has some kind of localized dimming as that will allow it to reach great black levels around .005-.0005 nits, as well as 95% or greater DCI-P3 coverage. If it’s hitting 1000 nits then more often than not it will usually have these specs (these are the minimum requirements for HDR as set by the UHD alliance). Having HGIG is also something that’s needed for gaming, so that as you say it’s not double tone mapping. That’s the thing with HDR, when it’s good, it’s a bigger deal than 4K, but very few displays actually reach the required specs. Most displays people use are really “Budget” HDR displays, which is what I was talking about in the OP, there’s a zero percent chance you’ll find these HDR features on at least a consumer 1080P monitor.
Personally depends if you’re a living room gamer or room gamer. However this doesn’t apply for competitive gamers, if you play competitive, yea you should consider getting one.
To be honest 60fps gaming has ruined a lot of games I used to love on previous consoles so I want to hold onto the 60 and hold off on the 120 for a while longer.
I wouldn't worry, as the guy was touching on in the videos, 120fps isn't going to be the standard on this new gen of console, it's a novelty. As the new gen marches on and games get more demanding we'll probably be seeing even less games that support 120fps on console and those that do will certainly be tanking other features (HDR, resolution, ray tracing etc) to be able to push 120fps. 60fps has been and will always be the target frame rate for this gen. 120fps will probably be pushed for next gen by which point 2.1 hdmi monitors and TVs will be considerably cheaper.
Could you please make a video for best laptops for architects on the go? Something can run Adobe suite and auto cad smoothly yet still good looking nice and sleek options? This would be much appreciated if you consider it and would be even best before black Friday. I am interested in Asus duo or Microsoft book and hp elitepholio but not sure which one would be better a video in that regard for architects on the go would be much appreciated. Many thanks x
A 2K monitor(IPS) / 144 FPS is a wonderful spot for gaming such as the Gigabit 32 inch. I also own a 4k monitor and i can't tell the difference with the picture quality comparing to the 2K.
I had to go back to the ultra-wide 60hz dell monitor for work, it's just too nice for those uses but also do games on it. I would like for them to have some support for widescreens in the future. If I had more room I would set up a work corner and a different corner for gaming but it's just not a thing I can do yet.
HDMI 2.1 is overkill right now for consoles. There are no true 4k/120 games on consoles. I’d recommend waiting until more games come out in the future that can possibly attempt to push 4k/120. You can run 1080/120 and 1440/120 via HDMI 2.0.
Great video!!! Any idea when this will be available to the buy? And do you know what the pricing will be for the US? I have been interested in this monitor and been watching reviews and reading articles about it.
Just a quick one. Would it be worthwhile upgrading my 1080p monitor to a 1440p monitor for now and then going for a hdmi 2.1 in the future. It is for a series x. I got lg gl 850b it's 1440p 144hz when it was on sale a few months back works great with Ps5 and PC, will even display PS5 at 4k signal it downsamples it to 1440p
I think on a 27 - 28 inch monitor theres not much point upgrading from a 1440p monitor to 4k because its to small of a screen to notice a video quality difference and you get less fps as a result i think a common ground is pc gaming on 1440p or an ultrawide and console gaming on a 4k 120hz oled tv best of both worlds 👍
I see your point but wouldn’t it be more crispy if you had 4k 120 vs 1440p? More pixels and HDR. I have a 27” 1440p monitor with 144 hz and it looks really good but I’m saying screw it if I can get my hands on a 4k monitor i am going to do it lol

Just ordered an Acer Nitro XV282K monitor for the PS5, I think if anyone has the new console’s and is considering a new screen HDMI 2.1 is surely the way to go. Can’t wait to see how it looks 👍
I just ordered this as well. Have you got yours yet? I'm on ps5 aswell, mainly a warzone player
@@elprofessor626 Yeah, its fantastic I absolutely love it! When looking at reviews online about this monitor, alot of issues like getting it to hdmi 2.1 etc but I just plugged the ps5 in and it was already setup and good to go. I’ve bought a LG c1 55” to go with the series x recently and it’s the best purchase I’ve made in a long time. Looks amazing for movies and feels and looks smooth as butter in gaming
I was planning to get the 48 inch C1 but I’m worried about Burn-in and also electricity isn’t stable in my country so it would goes off a lot so I’m gonna get the Hisense U8G do you have any idea about how good is it?
Yea $1000 monitor isn't what everyone considered, "affordable."
Not all of them, I got mine for 600$ and a 4K 120hz tv from lg for 550$ last Black Friday. There are a lot under 1k you just have to look

Exacly
For a TV media use maybe, but not if you need a monitor for reading text and doing actual work besides the occasional gaming. 4K 28" is perfect for me in that sense.
Nah the smaller the screen the more clear it looks
Every review of the PG27UQ proves my point. It’s too small for 4k.

We dont need a 2.1 hdmi monitor. We only need 1440p 120 hz support on PS5.
@@yorha2b278 Wrong. 4k 120hz requires hdmi 2.1. I have last years TCL 6 series with hdmi 2.0 and it runs 1440p at 120 hz. Do your research, HDMI 2.0 can do 1440p 120hz.

The most informative video about 2.1 monitors for consoles! thank you
Awesome video !! I have a series x with a monitor but it's a 2.0 HDMI . Until now I wasn't sure if I was getting the full 120 hz because the refresh rate counter is always 120.

Currently using 1080p 120hz monitor for my Xbox Series X.
What monitor?
I have the LG C1 48inch and I can say it's well worth the upgrade to 2.1hdmi. I think the age of playing on console on a tiny monitor is over that would be very difficult to see the benefits of 4K. The fact that no 2.1 monitor can compete in performance or visual effects of an C1 Oled.
Peter, I’m all for quality over performance and like something larger than a 32” monitor, the LG C1 sounds like the way forward, I mainly place racing games, and the occasional Tomb Raider and Uncharted type series, would you recommend the LG C1?
@@tommyhop100 if looking to play in 4K 120fps or even 4K 60fps nothing can compete performance wise with the LG C1. To play games on visually is amazing with the Oled screen.

A lot of people didnt know the most important thing in a monitor is the headphone jack to connect the speaker coz 99.9% of their internal speaker sucks and asus rarely put headphone jack in their monitor and only microphone jack. So i think for this model the actual improvement is the headphone jack

"With PS5 you really want to have a monitor that can do 4k60"...ehhh you mean 4K@120!
ASUS pg320uq is 10bit I’m pretty sure

I'm hoping that Sony and Microsoft will release a mid generation version of their current console's in 2 or 3 years time,1440p at 120fps could be a possibility.
The Xbox series s is supposed to be a (not native)1440p 120fps console and the ps5 is more like a native 1440p 120fps console because of the worse performance compared to the series x

PlayStation 5 now supports 4k at 120hz with this monitor right?
Just got Acer Nitro XV282K 28 Inch 144Hz UHD Gaming Monitor for £400, I think that's the best on the market for that price. Absolute bargain
Normal people don’t have access to hdmi 2.1 or 2.0 tvs with 120 hz. Not to mention the money. But ya if this video doesn’t suck I’ll give you a like
And bro your video won’t solve it something is worth it or not. That is an opinion based thing

Lots of games will support 120hz bro as it ages it will go from 4K 120 to 2K and than 1080p 120hz but 120 will be easily supported

HDMI 2.1 is overkill right now for consoles. There are no true 4k/120 games on consoles. I’d recommend waiting until more games come out in the future that can possibly attempt to push 4k/120. You can run 1080/120 and 1440/120 via HDMI 2.0.
Neither of them can handle true 4k 120fps. Maybe mid fresh of them will
