Been playing on a 144hz monitor for like a year now. Mostly bought it for fortnite. While I think the high refresh does help a lot in competitive gaming, for regular use it’s not that big a difference. It’s definitely not a day and night feature as a lot of people make it out to be. Just purchased a 2k 140hz 27" monitor with HDMI 2.0 ports for $250 for standard desk/pc use and xbox gaming recently. Decided that 4k with hdmi 2.1 wasn't worth it for a small 27" used for desk and up close gaming. 2.1 is only needed for 4k gaming with 4k and higher resolutions at more 120hz or more. If I had to get a bigger display, or a big TV, I would definitely go for 4k with HDMI 2.1. Upgrading from 1080p 60hz, to 1440p 120hz was absolutely worth it for me at an affordable price point. Paying $500 + for a 4K 27" or lower monitor is a waste of money IMO.
A lot of people didnt know the most important thing in a monitor is the headphone jack to connect the speaker coz 99.9% of their internal speaker sucks and asus rarely put headphone jack in their monitor and only microphone jack. So i think for this model the actual improvement is the headphone jack

I have the LG C1 48inch and I can say it's well worth the upgrade to 2.1hdmi. I think the age of playing on console on a tiny monitor is over that would be very difficult to see the benefits of 4K. The fact that no 2.1 monitor can compete in performance or visual effects of an C1 Oled.

@@darksidefarmer I have not used one of the newest consoles so I am not sure. It is not going to be as fast as the internal storage or the expansion cards that microsoft sells.
What? This monitor has 4 HDMI inputs, namely 2 HDMI 2.1 inputs and 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs? I think I'll buy this monitor in a heartbeat, so I can hook up my PS5, Xbox Series X, Astro and Nintendo Switch with it! 👍
To be honest 60fps gaming has ruined a lot of games I used to love on previous consoles so I want to hold onto the 60 and hold off on the 120 for a while longer.
I wouldn't worry, as the guy was touching on in the videos, 120fps isn't going to be the standard on this new gen of console, it's a novelty. As the new gen marches on and games get more demanding we'll probably be seeing even less games that support 120fps on console and those that do will certainly be tanking other features (HDR, resolution, ray tracing etc) to be able to push 120fps. 60fps has been and will always be the target frame rate for this gen. 120fps will probably be pushed for next gen by which point 2.1 hdmi monitors and TVs will be considerably cheaper.
Now I know my what my Christmas present to myself is going to be 😎👌🏼 Awesome review! You really covered everything actually important, and straight to the point too.
Ive just gone to a monitor set up from TV. I liked how you get £1000 TV specs for about £500. I went LG 27GP950 and its so crisp. Very pleased. Im a monitor convert now 😂
This is not a trivial question, and definitively there is more to it than meets the eye. With PS5 you really want to have a monitor that can do 4k60 and 1080p120 with 10bit color in the panel itself. No dithering needed, and this can be met with HDMI 2.0. The problem is that there are very few reasonably priced good panels available, regardless of 2.0 or 2.1. The Asus TUF, Gigabyte M28U etc. are good 2.1 options with more reasonable price, but they use 8bit panel, which I consider a limitation especially on 1080p where dithering is not as good. The LG 950 GN (2.0) and GP (2.10 both have the 10 bit panel to meet the spec, but are more expensive. Then there are some very expensive choices on top of these. In any case, I would only go for HDMI 2.1 versions, it is far more versatile than 2.0.
HDMI 2.1 is overkill right now for consoles. There are no true 4k/120 games on consoles. I’d recommend waiting until more games come out in the future that can possibly attempt to push 4k/120. You can run 1080/120 and 1440/120 via HDMI 2.0.
Just ordered an Acer Nitro XV282K monitor for the PS5, I think if anyone has the new console’s and is considering a new screen HDMI 2.1 is surely the way to go. Can’t wait to see how it looks 👍

Personally depends if you’re a living room gamer or room gamer. However this doesn’t apply for competitive gamers, if you play competitive, yea you should consider getting one.
Yeah at the moment there isn't many games out there who can put out such specs but hopefully the game world and monitor world catches up soon to these consoles

Just a quick one. Would it be worthwhile upgrading my 1080p monitor to a 1440p monitor for now and then going for a hdmi 2.1 in the future. It is for a series x. Just feel a little underwhelmed with my current monitor not utilising the hardware, but I can afford a 4K hdmi 2.1 monitor. I just see a lot more value in the 1440p ones at the moment

@@Jaymv4s on my end I don't think I'll get a system able to push 4k 120fps anytime soon, so I'll stick to 1080p for now, maybe I might go to 1440p at a later stage if PS5 supports 1440p at some point

Just bought the Eve Spectrum 4K. For a PC gamer HDMI 2.1 monitors are absolutely worth it if you already have a high-end GPU and want to play at 4K and high refresh rates without chroma subsampling or using DSC. Being able to play at 4K 120Hz with full HDR and no compromises is amazing, and unlike consoles all games support 4K 120Hz because PC. :)
I think on a 27 - 28 inch monitor theres not much point upgrading from a 1440p monitor to 4k because its to small of a screen to notice a video quality difference and you get less fps as a result i think a common ground is pc gaming on 1440p or an ultrawide and console gaming on a 4k 120hz oled tv best of both worlds 👍
I see your point but wouldn’t it be more crispy if you had 4k 120 vs 1440p? More pixels and HDR. I have a 27” 1440p monitor with 144 hz and it looks really good but I’m saying screw it if I can get my hands on a 4k monitor i am going to do it lol
Something I notice nobody says about with most 1440p monitors is that it'll take a 4k 60hz image and down sample it into a 1440p image. So technically most 1440p monitors will display 1440p on ps5 and is a great work around until it supports it natively later this year. And of course you can still play 120fps games at 1080p on it. The fact you can get a 1440p 120hz+ monitor for about half the price of a 4k 120hz+ monitor I really don't know why you'd spend the extra money especially with as you said most 120 games don't hit 4k but I'd bet a lot of them will be 1440p 120hz when the update comes as is the case with series x already
HDR400 is not up to scratch. Would have to be at least HDR600 to tempt me. Until a similar spec monitor with that HDR (or better) standard comes out console gamers are better off sticking with a high quality TV (eg LG CX, C1, G1 etc).
Yeah agreed, I got a CX and it’s incredible and blows away my pc monitors. Seeing real HDR, none of this fake crap most monitors and cheap TVs do is something else. Oh and you get Dolby vision to boot.
I agree that a better HDR screen is more important than 4K, but you say that it’s better to get a 1080P monitor with HDR support. It’s important to note that there are very few displays that are limited to 1080p and come with Good HDR performance, or even HDR whatsoever. Also, the Xbox itself does not support HDR at 1080P whatsoever, same goes with 1440P, as the Xbox defaults to HDMI 1.4a pipeline when using those resolutions, HDR is only available at 4K on Xbox consoles.
Good points there, but a good HDR tv needs to be at least 1000 nits for brightness. Also it's good to have HGIG tone mapping capable. It's a plus you don't want double tone mapping HDR. It will just create unnecessary input lag with console and TV tone mapping. Dynamic HDR is a bust for gaming unless you don't care about FPS or input lag.
@@predacon8257 100% I totally agree. 1000 nits is minimum for a good HDR experience, you’ll also want a 10-bit panel, that’s OLED or has some kind of localized dimming as that will allow it to reach great black levels around .005-.0005 nits, as well as 95% or greater DCI-P3 coverage. If it’s hitting 1000 nits then more often than not it will usually have these specs (these are the minimum requirements for HDR as set by the UHD alliance). Having HGIG is also something that’s needed for gaming, so that as you say it’s not double tone mapping. That’s the thing with HDR, when it’s good, it’s a bigger deal than 4K, but very few displays actually reach the required specs. Most displays people use are really “Budget” HDR displays, which is what I was talking about in the OP, there’s a zero percent chance you’ll find these HDR features on at least a consumer 1080P monitor.
I don't care about 4K 120 fps, I only care about VRR. You can only get VRR with HDMI 2.1 (on consoles). If anyone can recommend a decent 27 inch 1440p monitor with HDMI 2.1, I would highly appreciate it. Why 1440p? Because games have to drop resolution to offer 60 fps and beyond. 4K at 30 fps is not worth it.
lol! I looked at your video because I was getting ready to purchase this monitor from Best Buy at 1299.00 and you convinced me NOT to do it! It makes sense, there’s not a lot of games that can do 4K 120fps or 120fps alone without having to sacrifice resolution. All just wait. Thanks

You have tempted me Tom, can you answer a question… I’m running the PS5 and Xbox Series X off a expensive 2016 Samsung UHD 4k TV, it ticks all the boxes on the Series X with the exception of 4k at 120hz, however, playing Forza Horizon 5, which yes looks great, I can still see an issue with a faint white line around the tyres when at speed, something that isn’t an issue in Forza Horizon 4 or 3. I would say 4K needs a bigger screen 32” and up.
Exacly
For a TV media use maybe, but not if you need a monitor for reading text and doing actual work besides the occasional gaming. 4K 28" is perfect for me in that sense.
Nah the smaller the screen the more clear it looks
Every review of the PG27UQ proves my point. It’s too small for 4k.

Great video but maybe you could give us more details about the monitor itself and about using it with a PC?
Been playing on a 144hz monitor for like a year now. Mostly bought it for fortnite. While I think the high refresh does help a lot in competitive gaming, for regular use it’s not that big a difference. It’s definitely not a day and night feature as a lot of people make it out to be. VRR though I think is a feature most people would benefit of.
For competitive gaming 144hz vs 60hz is a day and night difference
@@ItalionStallion1x competitive gaming meaning like what, mlg players?
I always get confused with that term. I play online once in a blue but I play online very casually. I don't play online to play competitive.

What monitor?
There is actually quite a few 120fps xbox series x games. At least 30 games support it through fps boost, patch, or multi-player modes.
Lots of games will support 120hz bro as it ages it will go from 4K 120 to 2K and than 1080p 120hz but 120 will be easily supported
I got a curved 27in monitor that does 165hz.. it's only 1080 p but most games don't do 4k 120 so tbh I don't mind and it still looks great.

"With PS5 you really want to have a monitor that can do 4k60"...ehhh you mean 4K@120!
ASUS pg320uq is 10bit I’m pretty sure
This answered a lot of questions for what I need for my Xbox series x and Samsung odyssey g9! Thanks a lot!
HDMI 2.1 is overkill right now for consoles. There are no true 4k/120 games on consoles. I’d recommend waiting until more games come out in the future that can possibly attempt to push 4k/120. You can run 1080/120 and 1440/120 via HDMI 2.0.
Neither of them can handle true 4k 120fps. Maybe mid fresh of them will

Bro I was just watching the release add for this thanks

I like your seat, where did you get this one?
This video was so informative. Thank you
I agree that a better HDR screen is more important than 4K, but you say that it’s better to get a 1080P monitor with HDR support.
Very informative, helped me decide to wait it out

Thanks
