The fact that three students made this is very impressive. Imagine creating 52 different soundtracks? In 1991 that was an amazing accomplishment. I actually like the music for Alfred N The Fettuc.
There’s actually only about 20 tracks, and some are only a few seconds. The guy who employed the students to make this thing was a total scammer, so I don’t blame the developers at all.

my brother and i were duped into buying this thing off the shopping channel back in 1991. we both used our xmas/bday money to buy it. even though it was terrible, i played it a lot. there were a few games that were kind of fun, if you set your expectations low. my personal favourite was #21, Streemerz. There are more levels, you need to walk off the right side of the 'top of the mountain' to get the next level to load. its stupid lol.
There actually is a reason the boss in Star Evil sometimes doesn't spawn. There is a limit to how many sprites the game can handle on the screen. If the screen is filled with the bullets from your ship when you reach the boss arena it cannot spawn in.
Can we have a moment of silence for Mike's sanity?

As someone who ended up with this game as a kid I’ll shed some light on how this happened. The games had a $199 retail price because Vince Perri intended to sell them to video and game rental stores like Blockbuster or local video rental stores. The idea being they’d pay $199 and earn the money back on rentals ... but nobody knew who he or Active was and it didn’t take long for word of mouth to kill the game for being garbo. After Active went bankrupt the warehouses that stored the majority of the carts that were made sold them off on the cheap to cover the unpaid rental fees for the storage. Local game shops and flea markets across central Florida were flooded with these carts that sold for the average game prices, around $30 to $40 bucks. Almost nobody who had one of these games back in the 90’s paid $199 for them.

I love how Lester the Unlikely is your go-to reference for describing the way characters jump in a cinematic puzzle platformer. Not Prince of Persia, not Flashback, not even Abe's Oddysee... but Lester the Unlikely.
I remember beating Lester the Unlikely as a teen on a emulator because I just wanted to see all the stupid stuff the character does...it was worth a once beat game

With inflation, that is about $375 today. And for further reference, SNES was released the same year also for $199.
The current price of the game is keeping up with the original price given inflation.

2:14:00 Playing Action 52 had the same effect on Mike as traveling to Mordor had on Frodo Baggins. Then it must be true... this game was crafted by the Dark Lord himself, in the very fires of Mount Doom!!!
I heard that Action 52 was made under inhumane conditions and time constraints, and granted, developing with Assembly language from scratch on an 8 bit system must have been a very different experience, but man, have we come far since then, where today we can write in Python a minigame FAR superior than anything from A52 in a matter of maybe one hour.
The reason it is called Action 52 is because players go through the action of restarting the game 52 times in the vain hope there is something worth playing on the cartridge.
Growing up in Central FL I’m one of the kids who sadly got stuck with one of these. After Active went bust in the mid 90’s carts ended up in game shops and flea markets all over Central FL as that’s where the warehouses were. The carts were sold off for pennies on the dollar and so many parents back then had no idea. I actually have a prototype II and Genesis cart of this along with Cheetahmen II OG cart. It’s amazing people still find this game after all these years.

There was an indie project back in 2010 called Action 52 OWNS.
Rock and Gravel from Whacky Races = another caveman character. I always got them mixed up with Captain Caveman!

If the new copyright stuff happening ever became problematic enough I could just stop streaming all together and just play games in my own spare time.
It would definitely stink not being able to hang out with the chat because I love that part of it.
But I don't actually need to stream or anything. Its just a fun thing to do. I'm good either way but I'd miss the chat.

@@kennylauderdale_en Yeah I want to do Monster World IV sometime. Oh so just to be clear, I'm not planning on leaving Twitch or anything. But I will be watching how the situation goes with all that. And later if Twitch changes enough and we all basically have to then yeah, moving to TH-cam or somewhere else is possible. I'm just fortunate I don't have to rely on Twitch for income. If all that Twitch crazyness comes to pass it could be really bad for some streamers. Hope it all goes over well for everyone in the end.

All of these action 52 games look just like a fake game that they'd have on the tv in a movie or tv show. So glad I didn't know anyone who had this as a kid.

I find it just the same for his Wizard of Oz gameplay, according to watch later I am still on the part where he can’t jump onto a vine and moving leaves stop as soon as he lands on them then they fall seconds afterwards, but his rage made me chuckle.

When I was a kid, action 52 was at the rental store, but for some reason you had to be 18 to rent it...

You need to put numbers 1 to 52 in a hat pull out a number and whatever number it is you should play it and try and complete it.
It's impressive how not one of these games looked remotely fun. You'd think they'd have messed up on at least one game and made it a little enjoyable.
Hey, Mike. When you were referring to that main character from the game Fuzz Power at 1:36:44, were you thinking of the Slag Brothers from Wacky Races as a Hanna Barbera character or characters in that case? They have almost the exact same design as Captain Caveman except you don't see their eyes, and the Slag Brothers came out a decade before Captain Caveman.
