My favorite part of the movie is when the group make their way through the sewers of oz. Why follow the yellow brick road when you could go through a sewer?
I watched this whole 15 hour odyssey of a play through 3ish years ago when it came out. Now, it’s just comfort food. I put this on to help me fall asleep. Mike’s resilience is amazing. I love classic games but my shit tolerance has about a 30 minute limit. I started this game with the insight from this play through and couldn’t even get out of the first world. It’s bad. Mike is a trooper. His struggles are appreciated.
You know what honestly sucks the most about this game? It actually looks really good. The detail on the characters and backgrounds are pretty good for snes. But it's like they just never bug checked it. The controls and collision detection are horrible. The only thing wrong with the graphics is the layout. And and that's a level layout issue, not a graphical error issue. You can't tell what you can and can't land on cause everything looks thrown on top of everything else. If the levels were less cluttered it would be easier to figure out where to go. You never know where it's safe to jump. The concept of the game is good. It could have been a good game if they just tightened up the controls and and collision detection. Then made it more clear what you can jump on. It could have been like a hidden gem on snes. But some of the music takes a little piece of my soul with every note. It really does look like they ran out of time and just had to skip the debugging stage of production. Cause over all it looks good, and the concept of collecting your characters as you go isn't bad. It just controls so horrible.
I really like when you play these kinds of terrible games. I think they're interesting because they offer a unique/different kind of challenge, they're entertaining to watch your reactions, and the poor design is fascinating into itself because of the "what were they thinking" aspect. I am actually going to buy this cart now because of this play through (even though you told us all not to).
Everytime you went to the desert to get Dorthy's extra lives it made me laugh because there is a spring under the bow in the home that you can jump on, so you never needed the shoes to get it. Also, when you pickup items you don't have to be in the character they are for; you can be any character when you're picking up lives, health, power ups, etc.
Eddie Perez Someone did tell him and he even repeated what the person in chat said about using the spring to get the extra life but it's like it didn't actually register for him for some reason. I kept wondering why he didn't just use the spring.
I came to comment on this video to ask if I'm the only one screaming at the TV while watching these, for various reasons. But i didnt even realize this one
sometimes I play games for 10 minutes and turn it off when I get pissed. I have no clue how Mike has the patience to play this for 4 and a half hours a time when I get mad just watching it lmao
times vary, it's whenever he wants to do them, no set schedule.... he has said if you have Twitch on, notifications set, when he comes on, the first thing he does is yell "F***!".... and, that's how you know.. 😉 I personally only watch his streams on TH-cam, but he has mentioned the above statement in a few of his videos
26:53 is so funny because so many things happened Mike wants his wounded character to get the health Mike assesses the danger of the flaming chimney Accurately times the jump to avoid danger The collision detection of the platform inaccurately denies him The collision detection or the flame inaccurately harms him because the pixels on the top of the hat are in the hit box, even though both objects are on different PLANES *Mike's wounded character dies*
Mike...I'm pretty sure you don't need to get the floaty slippers to get that extra life for Dorothy. If you recall the one time you fell in the hole and there was a trampoline at the bottom that bounced you up high...I believe that one also exists at the bottom of the hole underneath the extra life.
To clarify, its on the level where you were farming lives for Dorothy. If you look closely at the holes, you can see there is shaft that leads down to a spring or trampoline.
Watching him farm for dorothy live is brutal When Mike plays games on James and Mike on Monday he's very sharp and pick things up pretty quickly but on this game he's completely oblivious to obvious over and over he's just inflicting extra unnecessary punishment but overall I enjoy the vid and SALUTE him for even doing this
@@RandalfElVikingo You need to use passwords when you get a game over, that doesn't mean he didn't play all of it. I kind of doubt he played all of it though, but from the footage it seems he might have.
He said he used passwords to skip through it and see all the levels. I'm pretty sure he looked them up instead of painstakingly earning them. I dont blame him
3:47:55 The red thing basically just looks completely filled in on this size screen. Which is what they should've done to indicate youve gotten all the tickets anyway.
The thing that's too bad about this game was that the art direction was there- it's colorful and the graphics look nice for a SNES game and it looks like as far as a platformer goes everything is in place for this game to be good except for horrible level design and mechanics. Like Dorothy is about as weak as a main character as you can ever play in a game like this and there's no reason for it to be so frustratingly difficult. EDIT: Okay Mike just said the same thing. He said it AFTER I posted this lol.
I have a soft spot for any of these 8-16 bit games based on movies. Even if most of the games are shit. Wizard of Oz clearly falls into that category. Would like to see Mike tackle the NES Friday the 13th game at some point. I feel like that could be one he might come to appreciate if he played it a bit. Would also like to see Ghostbusters for the Sega Genesis and Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures for SNES.
@@RandalfElVikingo Indeed he did. He didn't care for it much, either lol. Still, it feels like a game he'd plug away at until he got good and finally beat it. Any actual Friday the 13th that comes along I'm always hopeful maybe he'll play it.
Hello Mike.Forgive my limited knowing of english grammar.Maybe you can try a prince of persia trilogy from 2000s.Those are some of the greatest action games of that era.
In fairness, maybe she wasn't doing jump kicks in the movie, but i also dont think she kicked anything in the movie. Actually, to my memory, Dorthy was a pretty non-violent person. I don't think she attacked anything in that movie. (For the person who's inevitably going to say she attacked the witch, she didnt. The witch set Scarecrow on fire & she grabbed a random bucket of water, & accidentally splashed the witch.) Bottom line, a jumpkick wouldn't be unreasonable.
Hell yeah! been looking forward to this and it did not disappoint, thanks for the lp Mike, i needed something like this to help with all the dreadful news as of late. GG. Also- do you mean to imply that you LEGITIMATELY are required to win that game of chance mini game? there's no way they would require something like that. is this actually true?
I like how they TRIED to be faithful to the movie and the book. I think if they fixed the platform detection and the hard to hit enemies the game would be decent at best
It's funny how solid of a gamer Mike is, but he hasn't realized the arrow puzzle is just a basic maze game without the walls. Just see which route you can follow the arrows to the end.
If anyone wants to play this game (I don't know why you would) and skip farming for lives, enter M as the first letter for 9 Dorothy lives, T as the first letter of the second group for 9 Scarecrow lives, C as the first letter of the third group for 9 Tinman lives, and K as the first letter of the last group for 9 Lion lives. When Mike starts off next time he will have 1 Lion life because of the Z in the password. It works in the emulator at least.
Great run this one! As always, love to see your descent into madness! BUT for a change, I think you would really like Jersey Devil ps1, great game! Give a shot!
I remember this part of the movie. This is where Dorothy jumps across the river of blood while teeth attack her.

Which porno was that? My VHS tapes are scattered all over the fuckin floor
or the part where dorothy breaks into homes in the munchkin village to kick the fuckin kids
My personal favorite part has always been when Toto is in the sky and he has to follow the arrows on the green blocks. So memorable.
My favorite parts of the movie are when she fights the big crow and the train. Never left my mind the first time I watched the movie. Truly iconic.
Omg dude. That RNG part had me rolling! I’m so sorry that we get so much enjoyment from your pain. You’re a legend Mike
I'll tell you one good thing about this game: no knockback when you get hit.
Back to this game? Madman!

Watch Mike play a poorly programmed dice rolling game for an hour.
Thats what it is! Enjoy!
“You sick fucks want some more of this shit?”
i totally did that
I caught the last half of this live. Mike was about ready for a rubber room.
Next, Bubsy 2? Aero the Acro-Bat? Alfred Chicken (SNES)? But, you know, beat this. I'm not gonna do it.

Is it sad that I was really looking forward to seeing the continuation of this game play? 🤔
I was legit yelling at the screen because Mike didn't realize Tin Man is immune to steam. Cheers, great series.
When are you gonna master back to the future 2&3?
Hopefully never.
That is the type of game only Bad Luck Bootsee can master!

Hey mike when you get the chance play Donald Duck Mahou No Boushi on SNES
Good suggestion, I'd like to hear his opinion on it.
The Wizard of Oz has kind of a Willy Wonka creep factor.
Not sure if this is true but I've heard that Stanley Kubrick hated The Wizard of Oz with a passion.
Did James actually finish this by himself back when he did the Nerd episode for this incredible game?
