    Again thanks so much, you are so patient with new followers. We had one “Feed store” in my town growing up, never knew what was going on inside. This helps explain stuff. Most of this stuff is common knowledge lost on new generation.

    I love the idea of tattoos. My goat got his ear tag caught on something and it became infected. I had to remove the tag, keep it and put antibiotics cream on it. We don’t transport or show ours. They are pets but this is much safer definitely.

      Yes! One clamp and call it done! Plus they dont have those issues of getting snagged and deal with them hanging from the ears.

    Not sure of your abilities just watched a delivery from a month ago Cammies labor you can easily pull out a baby at at the final push and open the sack especially when the baby is gasping for air. Turn the baby upside down and shake it or swing it vigorously to get the fluid out of the lungs so you don’t produce a baby with lung issues. I have been delivering animals for over 20 years and found this very successful!

    Excellent video! At what age are you tattooing the kids? One of the breeders we purchased goats from placed baking soda on the ears after the ink and rubbed in with a soft toothbrush. The baking soda created a raised area that made the tattoos easier to read especially on the dark eared kids.

      Typically around 4 weeks old. I have heard the baking soda thing. I may have to try that!

    I bet you've done many goats ears. Does it feel like when you press on a stapler? There's no blood involved. Why green ~ because you like the color or for a reason? 👍

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's like a staple I suppose. Very little blood, if any because it's cartalidge. If you hit a vein they can bleed. I have only seen white, black and green for the tattoo ink. The green shows up a lot better. Especially on the dark ears.

    Great video...very helpful I am getting ready to do my kid goats very soon. What happens if you accidentally hit one of those veins? Do you just apply blood stop powder? Thanks for all the great videos.

    When I had the big herd we bought a second set of plyers to keep the herd letters in so we didn't have to keep switching. I'm rubbish at the plyers method. Do you know if adga allows hand written tattoos like with a rabbit tattoo gun? Also I'm going to be buying a kid box like the one you have in this video and a Nigerian dehorning iron. If you have an Amazon link that will benefit you I'd love to use it.

      As long as the tattoo is legible and matches their papers, they don't care how you do it.

      You need two!! They are herd animals .and need another companion. That's just where it will start though. You'll get more 😂

    I heard you mention showing your goats. How do you get into doing that. I plan on getting goats and wanted to show. My kids have all been in 4H and I thought only kids did showmanship. Thanks for reading.

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You find an "open" show near you. Open means to all ages. It's not showmanship per say though. The goat is getting evaluated and can earn their championship where showmanship is more judging the kids and how well they handle the animal and their knowledge of the animal.
