    Hi again Crystal. Could just sit and watch you and babies play together ALL day long! Seeing them crawl all over you, totally secure, and DEFINITELY with no sense of boundaries, happy, bouncy and content in the incredibly fun environment u have provided them. It just makes for one continuous smile. And your complete joy in their antics......never ceases to warm my heart. I hit ‘replay’ and ‘like” over and over, totally mesmerized with their babyhood, their goofy sense of play and that look of total contentment on your face and in your voice. What a way to start a Saturday!

    It is so evident that you really love your animals. They way you talk to and care for the kids. The way you comfort and care for the laboring moms. I just adore watching these videos and getting to know your family (the two legged and four).

    Your channel rocks. Even though I grew up on a farm, goats were new to me. I got 3 last spring, bred 2, sold the buck in Nov, back down to 2, gained 2 more, now have 2 babies! Now I have a heard of 6! I've learned a lot from you channel like giving shots, milking tips, electric fencing for goats, ect. You've really given me some confidence. I do have 2 videos up about our new babies if you want to see them!

    Thanks for the update, Crystal! Keep us informed how Val's 3 babies are doing, please.
    All the kids look so healthy and bouncy!
    I agree disbudding prevents accidents and injuries -- well worth it.
    Thank you for explaining the reasons to disbud.
    Just remembered to ask;
    At what age do you disbud?
    Do you give Jump Start to 2 day old kids to colonize their gut?

    We had a farm hand that lost an ear from a horned buck- complete accident- but they can hurt people and each other with those horns. Disbudding is the safest way to go!

    People down the road from us have a herd of larger goats and they all have horns. We were coming back from town one day and one of their goats was stick under the fence, his horns caught, and it couldn’t get out. So we stopped and helped it get free. We never see any people among the goats there, so we were worried they wouldn’t notice for a long time it was stuck in the fence. Most of their goats are white with brown heads. Don’t know what breed they are. We are in the Texas Hill Country so most of the goats around here are this breed. This happened another time, same goat too. We know because it was the only solid brown goat in the herd. We freed it again. Then awhile later we noticed the goat was not with the herd anymore. I don’t know if they got rid of it or it died. Horns can be really bad.

    I love jumpstart! But i will say, those tubes of gel are dangerous for newborns! (you did good Chrystal, they are older, and can handle more solid food:) ) My friend gave one of her kids some sel/vit.E gel to a newborn from the tube, and she breathed it in, and died a slow, painful death. She simply didnt know. ALWAYS give a pea sized amount on finger swiped on roof of mouth to newborns! just a quick little tip ;)

Foght and mate for just a few short years. Then they are injured in a fight and eaten by a predator. These are pets. It's like saying a dog needs testicles cause it will make them feel many.

    I grew up with goats, but only on the milking and feeding side of the fence so to speak. Fast forward and my husband and I bought acreage and he wanted goats milk (I remembered all the work it is, i.e. it isn't low maintenance like chickens), so now we have two to start off with and I am now on the side of the fence my parents were on. Holy cow, I never realized how small MY chore was. We have fixed the stalls since, but yes as you said, I came in one morning and the one area we thought was secure had a goat stuck in it via their horn and we have no idea how long she was like that. I know some might cry out that it is cruel and she was fine, but what if it had been worse? definitely something to consider with any future goats

    That is the best way to start the day - being "mauled" by baby goats wanting attention and milk. I agree. Disbudding is the worst but we feel it is necessary. Everyone has their own opinion on this touchy subject, but goats can get them stuck in some very bad situations without horns. Our vet charges $65 to disbudded & tattoo plus do a vet check. It may seem expensive to some, but hubby won't do it and my hands won't let me due to RA.
    You have such beautiful baby goats! Thank you for sharing!!!

    California makes NOTHING easy. In healthcare, they feel they are "too good" for nurses to come work there. Its ok :) I love your channel, love how educational and caring you are. I have many degrees and worked hard to get where I am, but my end goal with life is nothing towards my education lol. We sold a house we owned, no payments, nothing, to buy a farm so we can have better land and bigger buildings. We are starting our goat raising experience soon, so watching your channel has been really nice for me. So far we have chickens (all breeds including rare ones, just love them all), Flemish rabbits, cats, dogs, and exotic birds/parrots which we rescue. We have a 5000 sq ft building we turned into an aviary, and will be building an outdoor aviary for them during the warmer weather. Soon we will be getting Scottish Highlanders (after we get the fence completed). But first we will start with the goats :) we like the nigeran dwarf goats, but not sure which will be best for us. just trying to educate myself with behaviors, temper, size, and such.

    Another reason to do it is because of the bucks they will get each other's legs in the horns and break them. Unfortunately most of the time you have a wonderful buck that has to be put down😬. I would love to see or have it explain to me because we are fixing to have a lot of kids and I really want them not to have horns. Also how old is to old to do it?

    • @claireochsner6270
      @claireochsner6270 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ThisMomsTale Being pooled is a dominant gene. If you have a goat that is Pp for being polled and is bred to a horned-pp goat than 50% of offspring will be polled. This is the same regardless of whether the polled goat is the buck or the doe. If you have a goat that is homozygous for being polled- PP, their offspring will be 100% polled and have the genes for horns, which will mean their offspring will possibly have horns. Homozygous polled goats are thought to have fertility issues due to heavy inbreeding to create a 100% polled line

    New to goats. We got our first kids and they are 3 months old. They had been disbudded, but it looks like one may be getting a scur. Can we redisbud her? Is there a cut off age? Thank you.

    How often do you have to disbud? Is it a one time thing?

    I understand why and that it needs to be done. Didn't want you to think I was trying to be insensitive or something. I'm sure it's not much different from getting a shot or ear tags or even castrated or fixed.

    What age do you disbud? And is it possible for a goat to be polled if both parents have horns? Luka’s daughter appears to be polled to me. No swirls, I haven’t tried to move her skin, will do that next... Have you ever had a goat not “feel well” the next day? Sleepy, crying...

      I like to disbud withing the first week if possible in most cases. Some does wont need it for 2 weeks. Best as soon as you feel the horn numbs tipping. One parent has to be polled to have a polled kid. Never experienced an I'll or off kid from disbudding :)

    We cropped our Dogs ears, the vet did, removed dew claw, shaved face hair. Clipped nails. It was not fun.
