    You know Crystal, if people want to watch someone who really loves their goats, they need to watch you. You’re so tender and caring with them. You’re amazing when it comes to caring for the goats. Your husband and children are wonderful with them too. We can just tell by your facial expressions that you are happy , excited, afraid, nervous and so on. God bless you Crystal. Jean from Arizona 🌵🦂🦎🌴🐍🌞🌻

    Another reason to shave goats even though there is no show - you can let people practice shaving a goat. If they shave a spot too short or uneven or miss a spot it doesn't matter cause they aren't going in the ring.

    I got in trouble because I watch you. I commented on another goat breeder that whoever was filming the births, should put the camera down and wipe the membrane off the baby's nostrils-it was struggling so. He told me off kind of="entirely hands off, that baby was just fine", blah blah. I wonder if they would put the camera down when the baby collapsed. Thank you for being kind to your babies.

    Just fyi, the #10 blade used in reverse (against the grain) is the same as using a #40 blade which is what vets use to shave surgical sites and yes it is VERY short. Always use a 10 blade with the grain unless you know what you are doing like Crystal does

    I love your channel, you are legit one of my fave youtubers and I watch so many. I wonder whether you could get a grazing muzzle for goats for thicc girls like Sky? Just to limit their intake like they do with overweight horses. It can't be good for her joints etc long term. She'd probably hate it ... but I guess no one really likes dieting. Soaking hay before feeding takes some of the sugars out, good for animals that need to go on a bit of a diet. I enjoy watching the clothes come off your goats, especially Lodi. She's such a character. 🙂🙂

    if you do not mind me sharing, ultra cruz, (the company of the copper boluses you are using) have had multiple allegations of animal abuse. It stinks, because they are the cheaper brand for the same thing, vs copasure. I just thought you might want to know!
    I love clipping hooves for some reason lol! I straighten everyones hooves up every month or so. I think Im weird!
    I wanted to shear my buck today, but i only have a #10 blade, so next time i run to town i will try to remember to get a #4. I cant wait to see the blade sharpening! I never knew how to do that!
    I have my first bottle babies! They are 8 week old bucklings. Im having a hard time getting them to take the bottle. They were born here, but, sadly, their mamma passed away on Sunday. She was my first goat 5 years ago. She came with 2 others. RIP delta. I will never forget you sweetie. :( I sleep with her collar next to me every night.

    I watch a channel of a dog groomer and she always wears (and advises others to do so too) a fabric face mask, so she does not breathe in fine fur... maybe also a pair of cheap safety goggles would be nice, to keep hair out of your eyes since the wind always decides to kick up the second you turn on the blades.
    Maybe a dumb question, but regarding the beards on the does. On the junior doe she did not have a beard to grab. Do the beards grow depending upon age, or do they grow them when they've kidded (like the udder)?

    • @sagecarr124
      @sagecarr124 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know I am not crystal, but beards grow depending on the doe. No specific thing makes the hair grow it just does. I have 3 junior doe's, one of them has a long beard, the other has no beard at all, and the last one is somewhere in between.

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some does will get bigger beards than others. As they get older, their beards get longer. Especially white haired goats. All goats get beard though :)

    Crystal, you probably answered this before and I missed it. How did you get into showing goats? I know you mentioned using, I believe it was, your grandfather’s clippers Is that how you got started? It’s really interesting because I’ve never seen this type of thing in the Midwest except for 4H.
    Due to stay at home regulations I had to cut my husbands hair and it turned out okay (he bought clippers online). But, I was scared his hair is curly and if it’s cut wrong it really is noticeable. We have been married for 43 years and I want to keep it that way! I wish I was as comfortable with clippers as you are. Lol

      Hahaha! You are so funny! I bet you did. a great job! I got into showing because I was so interested in the improvement of my herd. The research and the family I bought my goats from, led to to this love. Shaving is just what you have to do to show :)

    Aside from showing, do you think having longer hair protects from mosquitoes? I am in FL and have a river channel behind our property. Mosquitoes can be fierce in summer. It can get up to 100F here too but not often, so I'm kind torn whether to shave or not in summer lol.
    Anyone else in the humid south have issues with mosquitoes on their goats?

      We have very few mosquitos out here in AZ. However, with the #4 blade, their skin is not susceptible. It's a good length. With a #10 it may be an issue.

    Hey there Love watching your videos.. off topic. Do you test milk before consumption.. I enjoy my milk but you see all these weird issues about drinking raw milk and goats milk and makes me wonder lol but I also her it’s very beneficial 🤷🏼‍♀️ and because I’m such a worry wart now I’m suspicious about drinking it they have been tested so no cl or cae or nothing all clear but supposedly bad bacteria can be in there milk and can cause health issues.. what’s your thought about it .. I’m to much of a worry wart should have never looked on internet lol

    • @BlueCactusDairyGoats
      @BlueCactusDairyGoats  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I go back and forth! The CAE or CL isnt what will harm human consumption. It's dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Campylobacter, and some others that will cause food born illness. The chances of a healthy herd, well managed and maintained, with the milk properly milked out and stored, having these issues is very rare. There are many benefits to raw milk. Especially the consumption of raw goat's milk. Goat's milk is the closest to human milk of any other animal. The proteins in goat milk break down in a human body in a couple of hours where as a cow's milk can take 24 hours or more for our bodies to break down. This is why many lactose intolerant people can't drink cow's milk, but have no issues with consuming goat's milk. So.. I would be weary of buying raw milk from another farm but not so worried with the milk i get from my own herd. Knowing they are healthy and milking and storing with proper cleanliness.

    Does your daughter ever shave the goats that she sows? Do you ever put shine on the hoofs.

      Emily has shaved before but not a complete goat. I never put shine on their hooves.
