Shouldering the responsibility of saving the entire series, Assassin's Creed Origins does a lot of things right, but hides it all behind a persistent grind designed to squeeze more money out of you.

Assassin's Creed Origins is a 2017 action role-playing video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is the tenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, following 2015's Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Principally set in Egypt, near the end of the Ptolemaic period from 49 to 43 BC, the story follows a Medjay named Bayek of Siwa and his wife Aya as they seek revenge for the murder of their son, and explores the origins of the millennia-long conflict between the Hidden Ones-forerunners to the Assassin Brotherhood, and the Order of the Ancients-forerunners to the Templar Order. The framing story, set in the 21st century, follows a new character, Layla Hassan, who relives Bayek and Aya's memories using a modified Animus device.
The game's development began following the release of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag in 2013. Ubisoft Montreal led its four-year development with help from a team of nearly 700 people from other Ubisoft studios around the world. The team consulted Egyptologists and historians extensively to ensure the setting was authentically represented in the game. In response to the common criticism that the gameplay of the series was getting stale and overly familiar, Ubisoft decided to reinvent the Assassin's Creed formula with Origins. Whereas previous entries were mainly stealth-action games, Origins introduces many elements found in role-playing games and an overhauled "hitbox-based" combat system. While Assassin's Creed had been an annual franchise since Assassin's Creed II (2009), an extra year of development time allowed the team to polish the game further. This was largely a response to the tepid sales of Syndicate, and the troubled launch of Assassin's Creed Unity, which was plagued with technical issues when it was released in 2014.
Announced at E3 2017, Origins was released on October 27, 2017, for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, and for Stadia on December 15, 2020. It received positive reviews from critics, with many calling it an improvement over previous entries and praising the story, characters, voice acting, reworked gameplay systems, world design, historical accuracy, and the visuals. However, the game also drew criticism for its pacing, quest design, and technical issues. The game has sold over ten million units worldwide and was nominated for several end-of-year accolades. Ubisoft supported Origins extensively following its launch, releasing two story expansions-The Hidden Ones and Curse of the Pharaohs-and a free Discovery Tour mode, which removes all combat from the game and allows players to learn about the history and culture of Ptolemaic Egypt through a series of guided tours. Its successor, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which is set in Classical Greece during the Peloponnesian War, was released in October 2018, expanding on the revamped gameplay and continuing the new framing story.

The grind is about to get WORSE. I used Cheat Engine to give myself double XP in Odyssey and leveling still felt slower than Origins.

well tbf, if you call AC Origins grindy, then AC Odyssey and Valhalla are the grind queens and kings of the franchise lmao

The way you use word "grind" towards side quests, that stand along side with Witcher 3 in their storytelling and detail just shows me how bias you're.

  • @SpartanS117C

Aya actually was originally the main character.

  • @monroerosant4619

    Aya is Amunet

Never had a problem with levels in this game since I'm a gamer that explores a lot and does this additional content. In fact I was overleveled a lot of the game haha and if that happens theres a setting that makes enemies scale to your level if you wish so. I get that some people like to just beeline the story but that was not clearly something the devs intended people to do.

You can interact with cats, if you crouch near a cat Bayek will pet it

Origins is short and buggy not enough Cult members to kill. Should’ve been longer!

  • @HikingHalfdead

Unity was the direction they should of kept going. Park our perfection if you actually understand how to utilize it , secret underground hide out a cafe’ to fix up with a mansion attached, secret assassin uniform room , actual stealth, badass animations , 1:1 scale world everything in it , crime scenes to investigate suspects to blame , mysteries , then we have the cheap claymation simplified trash of origins odyssey Valhalla and mirage won’t touch them .

Love that game, the grind wasn't a problem for me and I did every ounce of side content. It was my first AC type game and I just got a PS4 Pro. I don't think I can ever recreate that feeling of playing that game after getting a console for the first time, it was pure magic for me.

The reason that man said “Caesar is the father of understanding” is because earlier that man was telling Caesar “the he is now a god” and the father of understanding in AC lore is a all encompassing way of respecting everyone’s different beliefs and gods and just mashing it into a easy smooth catchphrase so that guy is basically telling you that ceasar is now a god and therefore is “The father of understanding” also as the man saying it believes ceasar to be a god therefore it fits accurately in the way he says it although idk if they did that on purpose but it is a nice hidden detail that makes it fit more but yeah it’s also a thing that is referenced in the ac games somewhere maybe AC3 or something random like that yk cuz I don’t read the comics and all that but maybe I saw it in a video on TH-cam but yeah your welcome amazing videos by the way I hope I was able to help you my fellow hidden one/assassin 😂

  • @SharkDAlbino

I saw a video that explains the corridor sequences as the main character goes insain from going on a murder scene, making him see things that aren't real and even bashing one dude's skull in with the apple because of it. Is this true? I don't know, but it does make sense.

Idk brah, i didn't feel like i ever had to grind. I was having fun playing the game...I dont get why people pay for a game and want to rush the process. Idk i got a natural way of playing every game that just happens. Idk if its b/c ive been playing games for a long time or what but when i 1st start a new game im kind of lost & trying to figure everything out & usually the safest quickest way is doing the main quest so i just play the main quest & little by little they kind of walk u through different things & after maybe 5 or 6 missions then i want to go out own my own & start doing the open world things whether it be side missions, collecting materials to craft, getting money, buying clothes, etc. Basically i create my own missions by doin things that i don't have to do but things that will make the game easier in thr long run & those things are the things that level u up & gets u money without that even being the goal...Me goin around doing all the synchronizing points isn't something i have to do, its just something i enjoy doing, but it comes with xp, but even if it didnt i still would do it. I spent hours 1 time doing nothing but hunting for crafting materials to upgrade my weapons like my hidden blade power, arrow damage, the amount of tools i can carry, etc. I was having fun doin that. Actually i didn't start doin a whole lot of side missions until i fell in love with the game. I had did a decent amount but once i realized how much i loved it & didn't want it to be over, i started doing way more. Also when i found out what the title he held meant & wjat the patch of the eye on his arm meant. He was basically at service of the people. Thats his job b4 being an assassin. His original job was to serve & protect the people, just like police officers, so the side missions fit in perfectly with the story & who he is...Doing these different things is also how u explore the map. Thats how i like to explore. I dont like randomly going to somewhere exploring. I like it to be a purpose why in there,. So i never felt the grind. I think now days everybody has ADHD & have no patience..i play games for the experience

  • @hanworst

Been watching this video for 25 minutes thinking it must have millions of views, was very surprised that it doesnt, such a good quality video essay, keep it up

  • @chagasgugu

The in lore explanation as to why the abstergo consoloes Don't cause bleeding effect is tha they are essentially VR headsets so you are simply watching a preset of memories instead of experiencing them like in the animus

  • @redunbreon5911

I never had problems with the level I was even overleveled some times but I started the game with the goal to 100% it so I did everything so your point still stands

  • @WideOldDan

Crafting started in AC3 unless you count bomb crafting in Revelations

  • @ATHTSupply

AC has taught me that the fan base is just split between those who want a linear experience and those who want an explorative somewhat sandbox experience.
