It was just meant as a thought dump since my thoughts were so conflicted. So don't think that I am talking about YOU as an individual or anything. I just figured it would be an interesting point of discussion and I wanted to see if others felt the same, and if not, why not.
Just as a note you find out that Sutkeh (sp?) Dies in a snake pit in the desert area outside the valley of the kings. So not even bayek can find the apple.
As a Assassin's creed fan, who isn't a Ezio fan boy, nor a man hater/kassandra/female eivor simp. Gotta say, this fan base sucks these days. Also I come across far to much homophobia from many of the "fans" online. And it's normally on some sad excuse of a defense of ubisoft forcing a "canon" lead on the new games. Funny how disgustingly hateful people can get when they try to defend a video game of all things. RIP good AC fans. Where the hell did you all go. It's not like it was being a fan of AC when I was a kid at all.
I feel like the severing of Bayeks ring finger was a metaphor for his relationship with Aya and subsequently started this tradition of giving up personal relationships for the assassin brotherhood until Leonardo changed that with Ezio
I think it's more about what he is willing to sacrifice to achieve his goal, he knew what would happen when he activated his blade, he sacrificed his finger to kill his target, and the assassins made the same sacrifice to show dedication to the cause.
One of my favorite side quests is when Bayek talks a woman out of suicide on a cliff. Just listening to them for what felt like 5 minutes of genuine emotion in the Egyptian dusk really resonates with me years later.
We don't talk about the little girl. I actually stopped playing the game for several hours after that. Probably the most emotional impact a game has given me to date.
I can't even remember how many pictures I took in photo mode when I was in the afterlife of queen Nefertiti, that place was beyond beautiful, no other afterlife gave me the same feeling, the yellow fields as far as the eye could see, beautiful sun, giant statues in perfect lines that would go on into the horizon, guards of anubis, ships and building made entirely out of gold. truly beautiful
my favourite side quest is one called Flea of Cyrene, where a bunch of children asks you to perform stunt jumps from high locations (top of a temple, cliff etc). There's no interesting mechanic, no deep lore or pondering questions but just seeing Bayek interacting with the children and playing along with their games is such a heart-warming moment that I just had this massive smile across my face while playing. Hell, there's even a small reference to Ezio Auditore with the quest giver is a child named Esiocles.
I played that one and I also liked it alot. I especially appreciated that it contrasted the story which had such high stakes at the time when you unlock the quest.
Technically, Origins doesn't take place in Ancient Egypt. This is Ptolemaic Egypt on the verge of Roman conquest. The pyramids are already ancient history for Bayek. Great video btw!
Actually, the Ptolemaic period is considered part of Ancient Egypt's history. Ancient Egypt begins with the unification of Egypt by Narmer in 3100 BCE and ends with the Roman conquest by Augustus Ceasar in 30 BCE
That Scarab twist really got me, I quite liked him at first. Plus he could really fight when we were defending Letopolis. When he poisoned me, I felt surprisingly betrayed. I guess the connection with his wife and son also built that up as well.
I sorta figured out he was gunna betray Bayek when the random ran into the Scarab's house and bumped into Bayek, causing him to drop his drink to which the game cut to the cup spilling (which would've been very odd to show if he wasn't evil). I still liked him though
@@TheJoker-dj4yqshut up he meant he liked the good side or what seemed good of the scarab or how the antagonists main quest was written (wich they nailed it with that twist) so shut up your just a hater dude just don't hate on the dude it's his opinion so again stfu
@@aweigh1010 plenty of them were. Not all of them, but a decent amount were. And the same applies in the game, the characters skin colours vary from black to olive/middle eastern. Im just glad that the Egyptian characters in the game aren't white like most movies about egypt make them out to be
@@kaitosevski3881 For real,Gods of Egypt was the last straw in Hollywood whitewashing. AC origins nailed the ethnicity and as a black guy it was soo cool playing as Bayek. Closest will ever get to AC based in ancient Africa 😢
Fun fact: you can actually parry the “heavy” attacks even though you can’t block them! There is a much smaller window to parry, but it is possible, keep in mind this is only possible in Origins. It is a risk/reward thing.
I have a shitty computer so trying to parry those unblockables on barely visible graphics due to the lowest settings and resolution possible and the ever changing framerate made parrying orange attacks both incredibly satisfying and extremely frustrating. I only used cursed weapons too so one hit from those fuckers ended me immediately lol

i wanted a sequel to this game soooo badly. I was convinced we were going to get a trilogy based on Bajek like we did for Ezio. It's such a shame that it seems like Ubisoft completely forgot about ir
Fun fact the feature of changed his hair and beard was a mistake and a console command accidentally left in by the developers. But people liked it so much they made it into a full feature
The music where from another level... I used to live in the Algeria Sahara with my grandmother, I remember I was listening to ac origins ost in my little garden, it seemed like a fever dream. I think I love ac origins for that: the immersion, the way they rendered the desert, the green mountain that are so similar to the atlas mountain of my country, the oasis, the freshness of the sea, it feel like home and it's incredible. I wish my grandma could play this game, but she wouldn't understand haha! After I finished this game I just tend to avoid it, Everytime someone mention it I miss the feeling of the sand between my finger
One thing I loved about this game is that Bayek can visit the same cavern that Layla is in during the modern day parts.. Layla will even mention she's "visited this place as Bayek", and Bayek will say "Aya and I's love started here, it should end here". Idk why but it blew my mind.
@@dragonslayerxxz2244 Just east of Siwa, Hotep Cavern I think? If I remember it's like the only question mark in the Quattara Depression (pretty sure I botched the spelling).. it has end game level enemies so beware.
Origins is my favorite. I love Bayek, I love the setting, and of all the RPG-hybrid AC games, it has the best balance of old and new. It was an overhaul that didn't spit on the legacy that came before, and is genuinely the most fun of that trilogy by far. It's the only one that treats the assassin playstyle with any respect 💀
I disagree with your points on the " treats the assassin playstyle with any respect" line Because Origins actually makes it the least optimal to stealth of any of the RPG AC games. Odyessy lets you use gear to boost your Assassin stat to be able to stealth kill most everything and weaken anything left that they can be one tapped even if you're underlevelled. Valhalla has a minigame that can let you kill anyone. Origins doesn't do that. You can only upgrade your hidden blade so much so if you're underlevelled, you cannot 1 shot or do enough damage for a follow up. I also disagree on the "that didn't spit on the legacy that came before". Because Origins retcons the philosophical reason for the creed's existence. Origins treats the formation of the Assassins as something more of a superhero formation. That this is a group to protect people from outside threats rather than as a way to ensure humanity's free will. The game seems to realize this which is why the DLCs hastily have Bayek and Aya decide "hey, we should have a creed to ensure humanity's free will rather than just protect people".
@@FraserSouris If stealth mechanics all came down to "can you one-shot everyone", I'd agree with you. Origins has the best stealth AI. By far. Valhalla's is godawful, and Odyssey doesn't give you enough tools for stealth to ever be engaging. All you have are arrows and your spear in that game. And the point about the Creed's intent being 'retconned' could easily be explained by the fact that this is literally an origin story about a group that exists for hundreds of years. The Creed has changed, and will keep changing. That's just how time works.
I feel that this game was the perfect combination of old and new and imo AC worked better without all the "choices", all the RPG aspects feels forced especially in Odyssey. This game worked for me because of the story, quests and characters. Bayek is also top tier and deserves a sequel that we'll never get.
I disagree. I feel Odyessy is arguably the best of the RPG ACs. Like with stealth, Origins actually makes it the least optimal to stealth of any of the RPG AC games. On a story front it suffers. The characters don't really follow the creed. Because Origins retcons the philosophical reason for the creed's existence. Origins treats the formation of the Assassins as something more of a superhero formation. That this is a group to protect people from outside threats rather than as a way to ensure humanity's free will. The game seems to realize this which is why the DLCs hastily have Bayek and Aya decide "hey, we should have a creed to ensure humanity's free will rather than just protect people" as a last second band aid. The story also doesn't really give much of an arc to Bayek. He's still the same as he is in the start of the story as he is in the end. He never really confronts the fact that he was the one who stabbed Khemu. Even him becoming an Assassin/Hidden One is business as usual for him since it's doing what he was already doing as a medjay. Most of the Assassin formation is done by Aya, not Bayek. It's not like Odyessy where Kassandara both has a personal journey and arc and we see the Assassins from an outside perspective. The choices allow the player to have a personal experience and journey rather than play as a static character
@@FraserSouris The desperation in your comments in gaslighting in Origins, I swear..... On a side note though, the apparent magic Isu in Odyssey is lore breaking. Because the ISU are SCIFI, not fantasy. Which Origins did again correctly.
When you combine the weapon variety of Origins with the combat system of Ghost of Tsushima. chain kills of Brotherhood/Revelations or 1 and the combat transitions of Black Flag, it is literally the perfect ideal AC combat system.
i always say Origins was when Ubisoft beautifully struck the perfect amalgamation of proper AC mechanics and new RPG ones, this game lowkey turned me into an ancient history buff
And then they ruined it by changing the fundamental rules of their own franchise. History is set in stone. You can't choose ur own path in these games. Following a single character with goals, admirations, relationships skills etc. Is what makes each Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed. Odyssey and Valhalla imply that you can be a mass murderer of villages one minute, and then saviour of an entire island/county the next with zero repercussions. Why do u think older AC games say "This ancestor did not kill innocents."
This game has a way of sneaking into your heart, i thought i would hate it but I can't tell you how many times i thought I would only spend 5 more minutes playing this game before bed and would end up being surprised by sunrise
I get that vibe yet (this might be the nostalgia blinding me) i still love the old ac style BUT this is still a great game and i agree that its better than odyssey and valhala
I disagree. I feel Odyessy is arguably the best of the RPG ACs. Like with stealth, Origins actually makes it the least optimal to stealth of any of the RPG AC games. Odyessy lets you use gear to boost your Assassin stat to be able to stealth kill most everything and weaken anything left that they can be one tapped even if you're underlevelled. You can only upgrade your hidden blade so much so if you're underlevelled, you cannot 1 shot or do enough damage for a follow up.
I also like this games loot system a lot better than Valhalla. Sure Valhalla’s was not bloated at times but I didn’t feel like doing a puzzle just to get a shitty shield
Man I gotta play this game again, genuinely one of the best and most enjoyable experiences I have ever had gaming. Has some faults yeah true but none of them diminish how excellent the experience is. Great work as always Aqua.
The thing that drew me into this game was the Egyptian history and culture that I had never learned anything about and this made me research so much. I LOVED that.
Not even close my mate, Bayek is terribly written, he never tries to understand anything, never takes anything seriously and the worst part is that he "created" the brotherhood just because he wanted to kill some people, I understand that the reason for the creed being created only comes in the end and also in the dlc but still, he simply doesn't feel like a solid character. Ezio had a real background, we saw him growing from a rich boy to a wise master, and in the end he always questioned the creed and its foundations, not to say the fact that he always tried to be better and not let vengeance and anger consume him
Origins is definitely my favorite of the series. The new mechanics were pretty cool but honestly it was the quality of the game world that really did it for me. You can tell they went over it with a fine tooth comb. Everywhere is oozing with detail and every region/city have their own distinct personality. Also the way things are spaced out feels perfect for me. The desert is big enough to feel immersive, but not so big it gets boring. The scenery changes often enough to stay fresh and enough vistas to soak in that it's always engaging.
I played the hell out of this when launched, leading time played on Steam for over a week or so (I rarely focus on one game that long). I had recently purchased a VR ready system and the game ran fantastically for myself, while the forums were full of people unhappy their systems couldn't 'handle' it. After a few patches, they managed to dumb it down for players with decent potato systems, and MY experience suffered because of that. If I could play it the way it released before the intense patching I'd be thrilled. Absolute jaw dropper IMO.
@@zzodysseuszz This is why I love New Game plus. I can focus on the main story beats without being compelled to do extra to 'level up'. Right now I have it reinstalled and was just finished with the Hidden Ones and have begun the Curse of the Pharaohs again. Compared to Valhalla, I was getting my A$$ handed to me a lot more - good wake up call.
@@terrylandess6072 it was easy in the beginning but after I start traveling it be getting difficult. It’s very fun though and still need to learn how to parry. Last AC game I played was revelation and that game was 💩
I was more of a fan of how they did the "Boss" fights in Odyssey (Madussa, Minatur, Cyclops, etc.......I was not a big fan of how they did the boss fights in Origins, the "God" fights..........felt like over the top halucinatiins to me & just was not a fan 🤪
I’ll never forget walking around in the desert for literal HOURS trying to get a specific mirage to appear for a trophy. My pain aside, this was an excellent video, Aqua. I was also kind of hoping Bayek would eventually question/accept that maybe he was the one responsible for his son’s death, but nevertheless I loved Bayek and the story. As for the dlc, I really liked the locations of Curse of the Pharaohs but personally both dlcs just felt kinda meh and Hidden Ones felt really underwhelming. I will say tho, the Hidden Ones outfit is probably my favorite in the game and one of my favorite assassin outfits in the series.
Say what you like about Ubisoft, this for me was a gift. The setting, the exploration, the soundtrack, the stories, everything about this game somehow got inside me and did great things for my mental health.. It was that special.
Understanding the difference in cultures between Rome and Egypt made me really love everything about Aya’s scenes. Much like Ancient Greece, the Romans lived in an incredibly patriarchal society, and they believed that because rivers flowed north in Egypt, it was an “upside down” land, and this is what caused them to allow women to hold political office. So when Aya says “he thinks a woman cannot do it”, she is not only making a statement as a woman, but also as an Egyptian, and this plays so well into the themes we see throughout the game of Egyptians being displaced by the Roman’s and having no one to defend them but Bayek and Aya.
Hearing you mention the music being a challenge, just thought I’d mention I loved the use of Futaba’s music from Persona 5, made me smile when I realized what it was and why it was there.
I just realized that Bayek losing his ring finger foreshadows the end of his marriage to Aya. A seemingly inconsequential action being elevated to that level of importance is yet another reason why I love this game so much.
Here's an insane fact that is so easy to miss but super strange that it's in the game at all: After completing the curse of the Pharoahs story you can find(and I shit you not) Sutek's corpse lying in Thebes somewhere(the location isn't random I just haven't touched the game in years so I don't remember. I think it's in a very small cave in the middle of nowhere?) Bayek comments on it and that's the only way I noticed it was him at all and not just some random corpse. I believe he says something about the apple being looted from his corpse? Again I think I last played this in 2017 and I had the brain of a 16 year old then. This was such a strange detail to include for literally no reason and I'm not surprised you missed it(or just didn't include it) but yeah. Thought I'd let you know and ruin that ending a little bit more for you
What he said in Chapter 4 about Bayek not being a husband, a father and his old self etc. anymore, while now he could only reminisce about his old life and spending time with his son, was pretty emotionally touching actually
For anyone having an issue with dropping frame rates or stuttering: look at what your average fps is and set a framerate limit a bit below it. When it's typically around 50-60 fps, set a limit to 50. Use an external tool to limit framerate like NVIDIA Control Panel or Riva statistics tuner. This fixed 99% of stutters for me in AC Origins.
no you just need a godlike cpu to get a 100% smooth 60fps or more. playing at 1440p max settings on my 3080 laptop with an i7 11800h and a 60fps cap and its smooth as butter.
I really liked how Bayek tries to help people but gets angry when they try to make him their errand boy and when they ask for stupid things. It's okey to try to help people with their problems but don't make me your delibery boy or things are gonna get bloody between us. A protagonist that respects himself like that, well done Ubisoft. Overall, great game that doesn't overstated its welcome and knows when to end.
Too many times Bayek returned with nothing but bad news. That was a bit heart wrenching at times - devastating one time :( One thing I just remembered is after doing missions or quests for many of the NPC's, if you could remember where they were now there's no 'marker', they would speak to you again with some decent conversation about the state of things. I wonder how many of those I missed?
I think one of the best expressions of Bayek’s emotions(that I can remember) can be found within the first hour of starting the game. The cutscenes where he kills The Heron(which is the SECOND cutscene), and The Ibis are so damn good
I don't know. I'm playing it ATM, very smooth on ultra. I played Rogue, and wow, that ugly old thing kept stuttering. I could not believe it. I lowered the settings, it stuttered. I put them on minimum, it stuttered. If Origins runs smoothest at 30, maybe it's best it's left at 30. Or at least that you can limit FPS if anything starts going wrong.
I love how this game, like no other game, has combined pretty much all of egyptian history in a way no other game could. AC Odyssey couldn't tell all of greek history and Valhalla was a power fantasy rather then a accurate view of history. But gods, Egypt was the best choice. From entering tombs of the ancient past, visting some of the most beutiful temples and Alexandria, it was fantastic. And its setting gives the player the best time to be. The ptolemiac dynastys downfall is not only home to Cleopatra and Caesar, but also greeks, romans, egyptians, semetics, and siwans. For a history buff like me, its awesome!
I know my comment is late but on the point of him meeting his old comrades that moved forward, you will notice in the cutscene that he is laughing with them but that smile gradually fade while he turns towards us the player as the cutscene end. I feel it may be envy or he just doesn’t want to feel happy for long to not forget his main objective.
1:14:11 the worst part of this is that after I finished the main story i still haven't discovered the desert in the south west. In the middle, more or less, there's an oasis and in it I found the body of the red head, and the artifact was nowhere to be found. I thought that maybe it would have bring up a new side quests but... No, it's just that
Truly one of the best AC games ever. I got II, Origins, and Brotherhood in my top 3. When it came out I grinded so hard for so long, and very few AC games can boast making me do that. This game makes me nostalgic
This game had just the right amount of elements from the new AC games and the old AC games. It felt fresh. That’s why I think that it is the best AC game that we have gotten since Black Flag. The setting in this game is also one of the best AC settings.
I just noticed the music you used is from a bunch of different games' desert levels. I thought I heard Kingdom Hearts Agrabah music, but I was absolutely certain when I heard the Windswept Wastes music from Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Nice touch!
I really wish Valhalla would have received the same development love/care that Origins received. Valhalla had so much potential. Odyssey is a great game too (in terms of game mechanics), but the story of Origins is much better.
The writing and music in Valhalla was really well done, but the game fell flat in every other area. It was visually stunning, but the world wasn’t as interesting to explore. Characters were good, but they weren’t as good or memorable as past iterations. The gameplay was a mix of Origins and Odyssey and because of that, it didn’t have its own identity and felt like a lesser extension of both games. I like Valhalla, but it was a massive misstep in a lot of areas.
@@dawsynasay4841 The gameplay in Valhalla is extremely different to Origins and Odyssey, the whole stamina metre, weak points, stun attacks, way more abilities, etc. The other two are way closer together than either is to Valhalla.
I played Odyssey not long ago. The Minotaur quest alone was awesome. The Medusa one, the family saving one. I think people kept expecting the cultists hunt to be the main, and most important thing with all else being side quests. You forget that many of the cultists were a part of other quests themselves. The total freedom of where you go, what you do next. The quality of those secondary quests being what in the older ACs would be the main quests. And the team's reward for it all? "A bloated mess". I think it'll take a few years and for AC2 lovers to be silent for this gem to be fully appreciated. I also think you can only compare Odyssey to Origins, cause it had the same quality side quests. All else was not even close. Linear action games. You can watch a video of a Greek archeologist seeing Odyssey, and being awed by the research put in, while noting they used things from many periods. IMO they had one shot at Greece, they put in all the myths, personalities, and architecture they could. They did it better than most movies ever did, or other pathetic video games like God Of War. A dumb stupid action game. AC crippled both Origins, and Odyssey. They both should have been 100% those areas and their lore. They almost are anyway till you get shunted out to Layla so the purists will be happy. And they weren't anyhow, with either. Or titles like this video's wouldn't be there. And they did hate Origins till Odyssey came out.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed Origins, as I was hesitant to head in the RPG direction. Now that the franchise is where it is, Origins is a huge blast of nostalgia to the last time this franchise had my interest. It may have been the halfway point between the old and the new, but it was still a pretty great story.
The level system seems a sore point with many fans. I on the other hand had one of the games most terrifying encounters while just working Siwa, I decided to shoot a 'deaths head' Vulture to the north. I proceeded to run for my life thru town with onlookers gasping as I dodged attack after attack because I could see it's shadow in front of me while I eventually made it to water to dive and break combat. Avoiding my first death and a headstone reading 'Here lies Bayek, killed by a vulture'.
@@teibdavies242 It's the only game in the franchise that I started and did not finish, I kinda hate it. It's the reason I didn't get Valhalla, to me Origins was the last AC game
Bayek has become one of my favorite AC characters only after Ezio. I did not lost a child nor I am a father but his story is somehow familiar to me and I can really feel his emotions specially with every boss kill. It felt like I'm getting closer and closer to avenging Khemu yet vengeance still feels out of grasp. I teared up during Bayek and Aya's scene on the beach
Amazing video! I can tell there is huge passion and hard work gone into it. Like you, I also avoided it for a few years and only started it early this year. Initially I was cautious as it was so different to my previous games like Ezio and Unity but I gave it some time and in the past few weeks I've become enthralled by it too. The setting and the mystery/fantasy elements complement each other while the story has blown me away at how compelling and endearing Bayek and Aya are, something I was not expecting as story rarely makes me feel anything in video games. Keep up the great work
playing Origins now, oct 2024... almost in the end game, watching some videos to eventualy learn hidden secrets, unlock some cool weapons/armours. leaned nothing in this video because ,as i said, im already in the endgame A(ND this video CLEARLY IS NOT A WALKTHROUGHT) so i already know pretty much all the stuff BUT, STILL, THIS MUST BE ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS ive seen about origins good job man
Me too, I was amazed. The scenery, the music, everything was like a magical dream. Years later and I can't forget the impact it had on me. Getting out of that dark building for the first time into the Aaru world, i was gasping :D.
Origins is amazing compared to Odyssey partly because of the difference in art direction. From the barren deserts to the dusty crypts, it felt like you're playing as Indiana Jones and you're searching for old treasures. Unlike Odyssey which is mostly comprised of water, in Egypt seeing water feels like a luxury against the yellow sands.
Watching hippos topple boats and kill the npc's was always disturbing - mostly noticed while scouting with Senu. And snakes.... why did it have to be snakes? When I run across them in Valhalla I wonder . . . Did England have poisonous snakes? Then I read about Adders. UBIsoft having 2 different studios working different AC releases is brilliant.
I started playing Ac: Origins a few days ago and I’m loving it. I Haven’t played an assassins creed game in years and being able start again on a game as good as this makes me happy
Digging the Age of Mythology music in the background! Additionally, I always love to hear your takes on the Assassin's Creed games and I tend to find they align with my personal opinions. Origins is my favorite Assassin's Creed game in a long while and I feel myself going back to it yearly to get a taste of the world.
Fun fact. Oh the Son of Ra is the only side mission character with a corridor confession scene. That plus earlier in the mission guards talk about how he has strange eyes (although not shown in game) leads many to believe he’s a sage. Also you can pet the cats by kneeling down and eventually Bayek will raise his hand to the cat’s head. Also also there’s a vipers nest somewhat near where you leave Sutekh, you find his body… and no apple.
I love Origins. Bayek is amazing as a main character, played perfectly by abubakar salim! The game world has a polish Odyssey and Valhalla lack. Oh, and Unity wasnt all that bad either
I put this game off for years thinking it was gonna be bad, but I ended up playing it last year and its one of my top 5 favorite games ever, I still listen to the soundtrack on spotify just to get goosebumps
Haven't played this but still watching all your videos! The editing is so good and man it's rare I'll watch a 1 hour+ video on a game on frickin TH-cam. Great work!
Yes, the combat Is dated, yes the world Isn’t as big as the other two, yes it isn’t as long. But did that really matter to me… No… No I did not. Origins still remains as one of my favourites In this RPG AC trilogy mainly due to the characters, world, and story. Hell I still even liked the combat since it didn’t overflow you with abilities to make you feel like a god (Especially In odyssey) Origins combat felt more punchy and more impactful, rather then spamming your best abilities In odyssey/Valhalla, one of my favourite things In the combat for Origins Is that you can actually counter those red attacks (Something you can’t do anymore In Odyssey/Valhalla) it’s mainly a risk-reward since it can still hit you like a truck.
You can still dodge the power attacks...you also don't have a shield in Odyssey to block with. I don't know what the hell they were thinking in Valhalla because you can equip a shield
I have replayed this game many times, more than any other game. I love that while doing regular quests I get lost on tangents keeping myself busy just doing random stupid things. Very satisfying game experience.
As someone who played assassins creed since the first game, i have had a strong love for this series as a whole, for the story, gameplay and appeal. I will never get tired of the games that come out, though I’ve bought every other title, I can never get tired of series.
I went back to play all after they fixed them because Origins rekindled my interest having only played those few which weren't broken at launch. While Rogue didn't seem to impress many, the simple discovery that in Rogue I could kill anyone without having that message 'Blah blah assassin's didn't kill innocents blah blah de-synchronization blah blah' was quite liberating.
First time I have seen any of your videos, and I have to say - It was well worth the time spent watching this. It's always nice to see another person's perspective on this beast of a game, especially when they make very clear points and opinions. Well done. I will say however that I think this game as a whole is actually much more fleshed out than the Ezio trilogy. I loved AC 2, Brother, & even more Revelations (which I thought had the best story before this game). I think Bayek's story feels much more humanized. Ezio is cool, but starting him off as a teenager and going straight into the revenge angst doesn't give you time to feel like he was established in the world. Ezio just grows over time with it. Bayek feels as if he's one of us. He's already established and a bit of an old soul. He keeps a lot of his youthful charm with how hot and heavy he is with his wife, other women find him attractive, and he's fit and perhaps the most muscular out of all the Assassins up to that point. So he's still relatable from a youthful perspective - However, he's also a family man, a protector of the people and a matured combatant knowing how to use a ton of weapons being a Medjay. He appeals to a much larger audience when it comes to relatability. Relatability can convey a lot of emotions in stories. It's one of the reason people hate on a game, or piece of entertainment when the consumer feels the character's aren't relatable, they'll make quick mention of that. I think Bayek, at least to me, as a character, makes a lot of people feel extremely immersed, and his voice acting is top tier.
I love origins, I played through it 4 times now, everything about the game are just breathtaking. Bayek's story particularly is one that resonates with every human
This game revived my love for gaming, became my favorite of all time, and got me into ancient history. I will never forget that moment I beat the main game, it felt like such an adventure.
@@zacharybecker8228 The franchise that you loved was milking you for money every year for inferior games compared to many made by other companies. They had the same exact "gameplay" with different badly written cutscenes in between. At least in Black Flag you had this whole world made almost outside the "franchise". So many more could enjoy it. Then in order to please the nut-jobs they put it back in a city and ruined a great chance of having a revolutionary France game with stealth elements, and swordfights, but fully about that. Cause they again tried to please you all. In many cases by the way your types already dropped off by then. To them the Black Flag killed the "franchise". I like some things out of many older games, but I don't build any cult around those limited old things with so so gameplay. I wish more could look at all of them objectively.
@@Akechifan you’re an idiot.. Valhalla is last place out of the three.. 1. Origins 2. Odyssey 3. Valhalla All of them are Atleast good.. but Origins is a 9.5/10 for me, Odyssey is about a 8.25/10 and Valhalla is a solid 7.5/10
I think one of the differences in the ‘revenge’-plot is…in the other games (“they killed my family/my father etc”) there would be hope for the main charracters future; they can grow and live their own lives. In AC Origins the revenge is due to the murder of the child; Bayek has no future; his kid is dead and the sorrow hits differently!
Apart from all the praise said in this video which I fully agree. I think this game is truly beautiful, lush and alive. I don't think I've ever explored in a game as much as this, every town felt different and felt as if I'm actually walking in Egypt.
Origins was the first Assassins Creed game i bought and i really love it, just being able to walk, run, climb and drive horses around ancient Egypt was a dream coming true, and very educational as well thanks to the Discovery Tour, the game is a little hard in the beginning if you never played an AC game before but you learn quick!
No man, no. If you played the older AC games it'd be harder. Older ones have you counter armies from full safety. Origins and then Odyssey have you use brains and at times have you run off, hide, and take some of the mobs out. It's those 2 only that started being harder, and that's why these OG fanatics hate them IMO. Valhalla went back to please them, and instead undid all the good these 2 had done.
Although i love this game, i always watch these videos unbiased to enjoy them as pieces of entertainment, great video. I've never commented on any of these videos before, just doing so to help with the algorithm 👍
Agree with almost everything. I had also put it off for years and actually finished it today and i too am sad, angry even, at the end. Bayek and Aya not getting together in the end but even seperating hit me right in the feels. Ending ranks up there with Far Cry 5 and Kingdom Come Deliverance.
AC Origins is one of my favourite games of all time. Had so much fun with it. As a Hellenophile I was eagerly anticipating Odyssey, and while I like it, it just did not hit the same way Origins did. There is something about Origins... It was made with a particular love; the attention to detail, the unique and fantastical fusion of Egyptian and Greek cultures, the feeling of Alexandria being a world unto itself and then exploring ancient tombs... The characters of Cleopatra, Caesar and others... Little did I know how good I really had it.
GOD I LOVE ORIGINS OMG. one of my favorites by far. even as someone who played the older games and enjoyed the linear style, I cant deny how breathtaking this game is. I cried like a goddamn baby at Bayek's story.
Loved the mystery of this game, must have played for hundreds of hours just taking photos. So much more detail then Odyssey with more interesting locations.
Im a huge history nerd, with a particular fascination for Ancient Egypt. My Girlfriend got me this game as a present, and I spent the first hour going through the temple you start in, just examining the walls, pillars, statues, heiroglyphics, and artifacts making excited noises and pointing out things to my GF. Never played assassin's creed games, but I absolutely love it.
Origins was amazing the fact that you can explore a humongous map the fact that you can swim freely you get to explore the inside of the pyramid of Giza you get all kinds of things to do from gladiatorial fights to assassinations to shipwrecks and exploration your weapons are used how they're supposed to be. No more killing 20 enemies with the hidden blade you are actually forced to use a sword and shield as realism would allow you to the weapon usage felt really appropriate. You were able to search for clues do missions that didn't feel like fillers. Also the map felt empty at times but you were also able to explore using numerous forms of transportation feel like having a hump day why don't you ride a camel feeling a little more pedestrian and sophisticated a horse may suit your needs for a valuable steed. The dialogue felt right every emotion was just you felt what the character felt as you hunted down the man responsible for your son's death. The naval combat felt like you were brought dessert by the restaurant owner on the house after dinner. By far in my opinion an S tier AC game. Also the fact that you can carry several weapons at once what's a nice touch have an enemy that needs a speedy end try the dual short swords with quick strikes. Does he have a big fella behind him with a heavy weapon? Trying to sort and shield to best stay alive to brunt the upcoming attacks the fact that you can carry two weapons at once definitely gave you an edge when it came to the versatility of your gameplay.
You're treating it as a game, not some holy inheritor to the AC legacy. Oh Ezio, oh St. Desmond. If all did that one game at a time they'd enjoy them way more. Plus look how they cry for old combat, they think it'd sell it 2022 for $70.
I loved my Chariot in the more open areas and that spawned an unusual mirage one time when I was clearing the fog of war. As for the 'purists' I feel for them but when your lover jilts you, you move on. You don't hang around crying and stalking them. I embraced the change and enjoyed going back to play the fixed versions of previously released broken games in the series. Also Origins NPCs are the bomb and were capable of getting out of the way.
Other than the bloated rank system which I hate, I got through it cause the story is amazing. The Dlc is legendary. I have no idea how Odyssey and Valhalla turned out to be trash. The soundtrack is fantastic too.
@@aaronsanborn4291 Valhalla Overstays it's welcome but. From a game standpoint Origins is better there are no damage sponges like in Odyssey and so far from what I have played the story is good but not as great as origins... But that is yoru opinon and I respect it
I too think the same things about AC Origins. For me this game is a real masterpiece! I never got bored exploring it. When I ride my camel through the desert and see the pyramids and the river Nile in the distance, it feels like I'm really in Egypt.
I’m only 3 minutes in, but this game really exceeded my expectations. And after playing Valhalla for 30 hours and giving up on it, Origin really shines through.
Every later AC experience is different, and embracing change can be difficult. After hearing many such opinions of Valhalla I'm currently working it and I find England quite challenging from a tourist viewpoint. Hate the walls everywhere in certain places and the weather - ugh. But I'm learning a bit about that history and have settled in. Origins did bring me back to the series though.
@@memecliparchives2254 its defo part of a trilogy. Thus is the same reason Desmond was killed. Because people were saying it was only "loosely connecting the games" honestly so many fans dont even get this game series. No modern day then theres not sorry and no point. Ezio should've only ever had 1 game.
I loved all 3. Until I didn't. Ubisoft went sar to woke and aleianted the fans to much. But more then this, ubisoft trying to force fans into playing certain ("canon") protagonists over the alternative choices of protagonist is just wrong. They sit there knowing full well that over 2 thirds of their players would rather play as alexios for example, but no, ubisoft gotta go make us play as kassandra if we want the sequel to make sense. Even tho kassandra made less sense in odyssey itself. All this mess because that company wants its fans to fix their own image of sexism. Ridiculous.
@@chrismoore5333 how is that a problem of all 3 games tho? The gender choice isn’t really a big deal. Just imagine they say Alexios every time they say Kassandra
@@Kodiakhunter that would also be just as bad. Nor better no worse. I make a choice and I expect the simple choice to be respected. Not hard. It's called choosing to be inclusive to all people not just women or men specifically.
For me personally it was always about the story of the series that i loved, yeah i thought the assassinations were cool, i thought the combat was simple but flashy, but it was always the characters, it was always what i was doing and why. I loved how the characters were written and the idea of the creed, and origins imo does it so much better than odyssey and valhalla, i was excited for Valhalla because while it was about vikings we at least actually had Assassins, but as i played through the game i realized you never actually played as a assassin but rather worked alongside them. Either way Origins is my favorite because of the story and not the gameplay
I disagree. I feel Origins doesn't really do that and it suffers.
@@FraserSouris I can see most of your points however I feel the same way about Odyssey instead of Origins, it takes place before Origins yet treats it as if the creed had already been made. For instance in the DLC legacy of the first blade the phrase "all things are permitted" is stated with a dramatic tone as if it was a big moment when it does not matter since the creed had not been invented yet, the other issue I have with Odyssey is.................well you don't need me to tell you but it's not a AC game lmfao. Assassins aren't involved yet the entirety of the first DLC is there to make it feel as if it is but in the process ends up ruining pre established lore of the franchise such as for some reason making Darius the inventor of the leap of faith? Origins was incredible to me because it was the origins of the assassins, it was how they started, it was why they were created, and while yeah there order was extremely flawed in the beginning what order that's starting isn't? That was the point of the DLC, it was to finalize and concrete the creed and what they lived by, where as Odyssey doesn't really give anything new to the history of the assassins besides the origins of the Templar and even then they weren't at all interesting like the Templar of Hathem, Al Mualim, or even Cesare, the Templar of Odyssey were a group of worshiping fanatics with the head of them being the only one with any character. As for characters I loved Bayec because of his personal reasons to fight, his conviction to keep going and as he puts it in this video the fact that unlike every other character he and Aya take pride and joy in there revenge and killing, I like a good comedy or funny moment in my games however I don't want it to be the soul of the game, Odyssey for me felt like it was constantly telling jokes and while a couple landed most didn't, I vehemently disliked Alexios/Kasandra there personal reasons to fight were great and I loved the family dilemma the game built up but it's just not as strong as Bayecs son dying from his own blade. At the end of the day the core and passion of these games story comes from its creed, the dilemma its characters need to face to uphold rules and standards of the brotherhood, and the struggles of the order itself against the Templars, Odyssey was a terrible step down from that because it quite literally didn't have a creed, a order, or a brotherhood, all it had was a normal story about the problems of a dysfunctional family. Like the good old saying goes, Odyssey is a good game, just not a good assassins creed game
@@FraserSouris Don't even get me started on the supernatural aspects of the game lmfao, look i get Origins has "gods" that you fight in the form of animus glitches, and a sword that can be on fire or heal you, but that is sooooooooooooo far away from actually going to Atlanta's, from literally becoming a glowing spartan superhuman, from using ability's that should not be possible and go so far beyond our mortal plain that at that point you can't even play it off as a "drug", you literally are just a god.

I remember flying around as the eagle for hours and experiencing what it was like to be free as a bird. After the trip was over I realized that I had uncovered the vast majority of the map, meaning I had traveled almost everywhere in the game during that trip. It was such a magical experience that impacted me deeply.
Love this game. So many side quests led me to more side quests so naturally. Main story missions was a gift after leveling up with the side content, then going back to underlevel missions and feeling like a GOD

I feel like the severing of Bayeks ring finger was a metaphor for his relationship with Aya and subsequently started this tradition of giving up personal relationships for the assassin brotherhood until Leonardo changed that with Ezio
Altair changed it after he spend time with the Apple of Eden
I think it's more about what he is willing to sacrifice to achieve his goal, he knew what would happen when he activated his blade, he sacrificed his finger to kill his target, and the assassins made the same sacrifice to show dedication to the cause.

Facts
I disagree with your points on the " treats the assassin playstyle with any respect" line
Because Origins actually makes it the least optimal to stealth of any of the RPG AC games.

When you combine the weapon variety of Origins with the combat system of Ghost of Tsushima. chain kills of Brotherhood/Revelations or 1 and the combat transitions of Black Flag, it is literally the perfect ideal AC combat system.

@@ethantombs2608 mass murderer of villages? In my entire experience I’ve always been desynchronized for slaughtering random npc’s.

I thought your profile picture was a buff C3P0 at first.
Valhalla has a minigame that can let you kill anyone. Origins doesn't do that. You can only upgrade your hidden blade so much so if you're underlevelled, you cannot 1 shot or do enough damage for a follow up.
I agree with you
I also like this games loot system a lot better than Valhalla.

Cold Take: Bayek, if given a second game, could beat Ezio for best protag.
Hmmmm maybe? Idk i think ezio’s writting was really solid but maybe…
Agreed, giving the fact that he was waaaaay better written than Ezio, and wasn't a Gary Stue
Nah idk about that but he could definitely be the 2nd best
Not even close my mate, Bayek is terribly written, he never tries to understand anything, never takes anything seriously and the worst part is that he "created" the brotherhood just because he wanted to kill some people, I understand that the reason for the creed being created only comes in the end and also in the dlc but still, he simply doesn't feel like a solid character. Ezio had a real background, we saw him growing from a rich boy to a wise master, and in the end he always questioned the creed and its foundations, not to say the fact that he always tried to be better and not let vengeance and anger consume him
@@matheussilvabrandaodesouza6493 amazing, (almost) every word that you said is wrong
Ngl I will say I do wish there was more desert, though I personally just enjoy wandering through massive worlds and just looking at things.
I played all the AC games, and I genuinely believe this game is a masterpiece
I know its such an insignificant detail, but I love that from Bayek onwards you can sychronize from highpoints while standing normally sometimes.
Origins gives the impression the Greeks were fairly harmonious with the Egyptians, while the Romans - well, they're Romans . . . .
Thought I'd let you know and ruin that ending a little bit more for you
And great video. Really nostalgic. I wanna boot it back up now 😭😭😭

The cutscenes where he kills The Heron(which is the SECOND cutscene), and The Ibis are so damn good
I love Origins. I wish they released a 60fps update on next gen consoles like they did Odyssey.
I’ve heard rumours they might
They are adding it

I don't know. I'm playing it ATM, very smooth on ultra. I played Rogue, and wow, that ugly old thing kept stuttering. I could not believe it. I lowered the settings, it stuttered. I put them on minimum, it stuttered. If Origins runs smoothest at 30, maybe it's best it's left at 30. Or at least that you can limit FPS if anything starts going wrong.
It runs fine? Just play how it is
I love how this game, like no other game, has combined pretty much all of egyptian history in a way no other game could.
I love how your expression is “But gods” 😝
Well I’m polytheist, what else would I say?
No, it's just that
That would explain why the apple was roughly in the middle eastern area, and why it would eventually wind up in the Jerusalem area by Altair's time!
Truly one of the best AC games ever. I got II, Origins, and Brotherhood in my top 3. When it came out I grinded so hard for so long, and very few AC games can boast making me do that. This game makes me nostalgic
Great choices, mine are Brotherhood, Unity and Origins.
Nice touch!
I’m glad it worked! The Origins soundtrack is unfortunately copyright claimed so I had to improvise.

Still I find that Quests are more worked out in Odyssey. Fighting in odyssey is also more challenging
Odyssey is also better written
I don't see how this has anything to do with the actual quality of the game

Origins still remains as one of my favourites In this RPG AC trilogy mainly due to the characters, world, and story.
Hell I still even liked the combat since it didn’t overflow you with abilities to make you feel like a god (Especially In odyssey) Origins combat felt more punchy and more impactful, rather then spamming your best abilities In odyssey/Valhalla, one of my favourite things In the combat for Origins Is that you can actually counter those red attacks (Something you can’t do anymore In Odyssey/Valhalla) it’s mainly a risk-reward since it can still hit you like a truck.
Okay.
I love that origins isn't as big neither as long as valhalla and odyssey, it's just more focused
You can still dodge the power attacks...you also don't have a shield in Odyssey to block with. I don't know what the hell they were thinking in Valhalla because you can equip a shield

I went back to play all after they fixed them because Origins rekindled my interest having only played those few which weren't broken at launch. While Rogue didn't seem to impress many, the simple discovery that in Rogue I could kill anyone without having that message 'Blah blah assassin's didn't kill innocents blah blah de-synchronization blah blah' was quite liberating.
i love your videos so much, you are such a chill dude.
thank you for making vids and curing my boredom

You can drive horses? Didn’t know they had engines 🤔 lol I’m joking

Agree with almost everything. I had also put it off for years and actually finished it today and i too am sad, angry even, at the end. Bayek and Aya not getting together in the end but even seperating hit me right in the feels. Ending ranks up there with Far Cry 5 and Kingdom Come Deliverance.

Same man. I spent my whole first play session in the guided tours just checking out details.
The soundtrack is fantastic too.
especially valhalla which was made by the same team as origins.
@@guitarman0365 I think there trying to one up origins
I feel like Odyssey is a far better RPG and thus, I like it more.
Valhalla is trash, Odyssey is way better than Origins.
3 minutes in and it was already better than Valhalla? Lmao I agree Origins is better but Valhalla isn’t a terrible game
@@Ranger.TomGunna I believe he means 3 minutes INTO the video . . . .
@@Ranger.TomGunna Valhalla gets ragged on way too much. It has the best combat, stealth isn't nerfed that much although admittedly it is slightly.
Absolutely the best out of the “new trilogy” AC games. Yur review was awesome Aqua
I don't even consider Origins as part of a trilogy apart from the modern day and even then the story within that arc was loosely connected still.
17:00- I notice the Crash Bandicoot Warped Egyptian music here, nice!
I have had this game for years my personal favourite AC game

My man. RESPECT. great work on putting together a vid for AC Origins. like i played AC from the start. and i always try and finish the game before i move on to the next. AC 1 and 2 Black Flag. now this. i love the game. up there with my all time favs
Because of this Bloody awesome game, I'm almost certain to name my first daughter, Shadya.
Why I never live streamed playing this game for the first time in 2020, I'll NEVER know.
Finally can't wait for ur thoughts on origins😁😁
The first time I played this, I didn't know you could hallucinate in the desert. My jaw dropped when I saw they had included biblical references in the visions like the burning bush and a staff turning into a snake. Fantastic detail.
This is an AMAZING video! I loved every minute of it, just like AC Origins!
Origins is the only one of these new versions of AC that I've actually completed. I've completed Odyssey's main story when it comes to Alexios, but it was so lack luster I didn't finish. Valhalla I might complete when I get motivated to play it again
Same here completed the story of Odyssey but caught serious burnout. As I said on another post I put in over 600 hours on orgins. 3 full plays and have fourth going that I play from time to time. Still haven't played Valhalla because Odyssey
@@rtime4269 Valhalla is better than Odyssey, it's just a lot to do. The combat is certainly more entertaining and I definitely feel more interested in the characters in it. There is even a decent bit about the Norse gods that almost feels like a dlc which is just a cool bonus
theres just something about being on a horse in the dessert that i just love so much i played this for hoursssss in 1 day
I’ve always said that this is THE best out of the new trilogy! I’ve Platinumed (I play on A Sony Console) this Whole entire game! and to this day it’s one of my top 4 Assassins Creed games of all time…
I will never forget the deeply profound experience I had playing this game. One night I had taken LSD and before peaking I decided to pop this game in and play. For the next several hours I was mesmerized, just walking/riding around exploring ancient Egypt and seeing all the historical sights and feeling like I was really there. I remember flying around as the eagle for hours and experiencing what it was like to be free as a bird. After the trip was over I realized that I had uncovered the vast majority of the map, meaning I had traveled almost everywhere in the game during that trip. It was such a magical experience that impacted me deeply.
This is the single BEST game to play while tripping
Love this game. So many side quests led me to more side quests so naturally. Main story missions was a gift after leveling up with the side content, then going back to underlevel missions and feeling like a GOD
I'm going to do this, Thx 👍🏾
Wait is it a "thing" that people hate this game?? I just bought it a few weeks ago and I love it. It's by far the best AC game I've ever played with really cool Egyptian architecture and history tied in. The controls are tight and responsive, the combat is fun, I don't get why people wouldn't like this game
Pretty much people don't like it because it's different from the old AC games
It's mostly odessey fans who hate this or og old fans who are not willing to try anything new. Funny thing is I still love the old ones more, origins is simply brilliant from story to gameplay and landmarks
@@davidm5893 very few people I’ve met hate this game. The only ones that do are AC purists who hate anything that isn’t the Ezio trilogy, or some afrocentrists who were upset that the Egyptians in Origins weren’t “black enough”
@@SarastistheSerpent which is hilarious because ancient Egyptians were decidedly not black
@@thisnameistoolong9169 Exactly. Ancient Egyptians looked identical to modern Egyptians. We have hundreds of mummies that confirm this
