      And make Slam physical. Does not make much sense that slam would be special, there is no nostalgia to dragon type moves being special as there were no dragon moves that this would have applied to (Dragon Rage being only former dragon move) and Dragonite should be mythically strong given its rarity in the game (only Lance has one)

    11:25 I have a suggestion: Have the Ponyta and Rapidash line learn Jump Kick and High Jump Kick in order to further differentiate it from the other fire type animal themes. It would make sense with how horses behave in real life, and would open up the possibility of a more phisically oriented fire pokemon.

    • @BelugaTheHutt
      @BelugaTheHutt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +85

      Jump Kick makes sense, because Sawsbuck learns in pre-dexit, and it has a similar body shape to Rapidash - similarly, Dodrio also learns Jump Kick. However, Hi Jump Kick wouldn't make tons of sense, because HJK is actually a knee kick, and the English localization doesn't sufficiently get that idea across. Jump Kick is translated from "drop kick", whereas Hi Jump Kick is translated from "flying knee kick".
      You know the famous art of Blaziken sticking its knee out while jumping? That's the intended idea behind HJK. This is reinforced by its depiction in the anime. If you're not familiar with that Blaziken artwork, an even more famous example of a flying knee kick is the famous "Knee of Justice" forward aerial of Captain Falcon in the Smashbros series.
      Most 4-legged mammals, such as the horses on which Ponyta and Rapidash are designed, don't have legs with prominating knees. Their knees are relatively higher up on their legs, and instead, it is the ankle joint which prominates, and which serves as their primary bending axis. This means that it doesn't make a lot of biomechanical sense to give HJK to a 4-legged mammal pokemon, and we can see from vanilla learnsets in the series that HJK is in fact reserved exclusively for bipedal mons.

      I like it thematically, but isn't Rapidash pretty fast? Giving it access to strong fighting type moves would make it at minimum a check to a lot of normal and all rock types.

    • @mapleunix1
      @mapleunix1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@LotoTheHero That's true, but precisely due to that I think it would give it a usability factor that other fire types don't have precisely due to their rock weakness. Jump Kick isn't particularly strong anyways and it wouldn't be stab, so I think it generally wouldn't be sweeping rock or normal teams anyways. Also, if I'm not mistaken, most rock types are also ground, right? So if anything it's just giving an extra tool to deal with those weaknesses. I could be wrong though lol
      Edit: I'm not considering High Jump Kick anymore due to the previous reply to my comment.

That's why I liked the Pokemon Pure RGB hacks idea of giving the Transform move quick attack priority. Now Ditto can always go first and get off a Transform. It’s not that it has bad power and a drawback, it’s that it’s another middling Fighting-type move in a game where you don’t want to use Fighting moves plus Fighting-type Pokemon are weak and so Submission takes them out even quicker. Furthermore, even the developers think Submission a mistake - outside of other wrestling Pokémon like Hawlucha and Obstagoon, Submission is basically forgotten. For some reason, Cyndaquil, Chimchar, and Drilbur can learn it by breeding, and there is a Totodile that can be gifted that move, but in this day and age Submission would only be good if there was a Rock Head Pokemon that got Submission. Guess what? No Pokemon that learns Submission knows Rock Head, so literally every Pokémon will take damage from it. Finally, to make it clear that it was probably thrown in in Gen 1 because of the wrestling Machop line, Submission is not usable in Gen 9, while Doublr Edge is usable in Gen 9. Even as far as resistances go, Submission is resisted by Psychic, Poison, Bug, Flying (and Fairy types). Guess what? Most Pokémon in Kanto are Psychic, Poison, Flying, or Bug types! Meanwhile you have only three lines resisted by Normal type. And in later generations, many Pokémon would have a move that suffices more than the recoiling Submission. Submission was basically a mistake for the 20 years it was available as a move.

No need to buff its other stats, maybe even trade off some of its Attack stat to compensate and apply the distribution change back to Dratini as well. Maybe like 54 or 44 Attack/60 or 65 Special Dratini, and then 74 or 64 Attack/90 or 95 or even 100 Special Dragonair?
      Give a different niche between the pure Dragon type and its Dragon/Flying evolution. It's also a more comprehensive buff to Lance if he keeps even just one Dragonair on his team. Which he probably should just to avoid the 4x Ice weakness. (Yes, other than making Hyper Beam weaker on them, but the gains to bulk and all other moves would more than make up for that, given everything super effective against them would be Special in this scenario over changing Dragon type to physical, which would just make Dragonair and Dragonite easier to kill with other Pokemon that learn Slam.)

And tri attack features the only other thing it's weak too and both other types fire and electric are already associated with dragons. There's an ice dragon in the Next Godzilla movie too. So The callback to using it's own weakness for offense in the ice portion of the attack would have been chef's kiss. Just, every fix of the time was adding additional bubblegum and duct tape over top the previous layer to make each iteration run a bit better without actually fixing the underlying issues. (There's a good reason Gen 2 and Gen 3 weren't able to interact with each other, just too many built up messy coding decisions. Not that Gen 3 was perfect, but it was a much more stable foundation.)

    You wanted to have Flamethrower as a TM, to help out the fire types like Moltres who, outside of a single pokemon being able to use the Fire Blast TM until post game when it's repurchasable, are stuck with only Ember or Fire Spin. Have you figured out which TM you wanted to replace to put it in yet?
    Also, have you considered moving TM's around for balancing reasons? Popular ones like Body Slam and Ice Beam should stay where they are, though. But for example: Submission is all the way at the end in Victory Road. Kind of late for a move like that. What if that was moved to the rocket hideout where horn drill was? You start to face fighting types around then and it will help against giovanni's rock and normal type. Horn drill is bought in the celadon department store for cheap so it can stay there. And to replace submission in victory road, maybe substitute since that's locked behind the game corner and is hard to get normally, and substitute is a more advanced kind of move anyway for higher level play, so it fits in victory road.
    Another example is: Rage is all the way next to Fuschia city, and its usefulness is about done by that point. Maybe moving Rage to the beginning of Mt Moon where Water Gun was to teach the player that it can be used for long dungeons, and water gun is now Flamethrower at the route east of fuschia where rage was, since thats where someone pokemon start to learn Flamethrower, and it makes it available early for others if you don't want to wait for later levels. to learn it.
    Would moving around lesser known TM's around to when the moves are more appropriate or make sense be a good idea?

The pokemon Bug Type moves are good at dealing with tend to have MUCH lower Defense stat than their Special stat, even a good number of the ones they do neutral damage to instead of just when being super effective.

    What changes did Cubone get? Maybe I just missed it, but I didn't hear anything about it or Marowak. I personally would give it more defensive bulk, a slight attack boost to compensate for the non-existence of Thick Club, move its signature move Bonemerang to an earlier level, and give it Fighting type coverage. I also think it could use a defense raising move like Harden, or maybe some more multi-hit moves to capitalize on it's Focus Energy and signature move's gimmick, but maybe that's taking it a bit too far.

    There’s a very easy buff you can do for Ditto. Buff it’s speed so it’s the fastest mon in the game so it can at least have a bootleg version of Imposter in gen 1. Sure Ditto will have a super high crit rate as a Ditto, but it will take the transformed pokemon’s crit rate, so it’d only be useful for struggle strats.
    This way you won’t buff transform itself via giving it priority, unless you really want to give more PP to the transformed moves, but I think the bootleg imposter effect with the speed buff could be good enough.

    Pokemon’s base stats don’t work the way you described while talking about badge boosts. The 12.5% boost applies to the Pokémon’s actual stats, not their base stats. These are two different things because the base stat is just one of several factors that are plugged into a more complex formula to determine the stats of an individual Pokemon. Badge boosting Pikachu’s attack stat by 25% would boost the attack stat that actually goes into the damage formula, but the base stat stays the same. It’s not equivalent to a base stat of 69, or any number for that matter, because each Pikachu will have different stat experience and DVs

    So many beautiful ideas you got there. I cannot wait to play this ROM. I love gen 1 pkmn!!!! Since it's just a comment I think I could write down some ideas. I know people probably wouldn't want type changes, but making Gyrados a water/dragon(since you have introduced Dragon-Slam Gyrados would have a weakness) or making it only water to counter it's massive electric disadvantage would be really nice. it would make Lance way stronger and difficult to deal with. A beautiful counter to Psychic types apart from Normal-types and the improved Bug-types suggested in the video, could be Venomoth becoming a Bug/Psychic type with the stat improvements (idea came from Sabrina running one). It can face many Psychic-types and can actually pose a threat to other pkmn as well. Additional ghost-types would be great, at least one extra, to somehow differentiate the Ghost type from the extremely rare Dragon type. An obvious choice could be Marowak due to the backstory of Lavender tower. Ninetails is a nice option too. Idea from PKMN mystery dungeon Blue rescue team where Ninetails is gropued with the rest of the Ghost family in Darkness ridge.
    As for the Elite four members, if you keep the unfairness of Freeze {please do :) } Lorelei coul be mainly focused on landing a freeze assisted ofc with Jynx lovely kiss. With Articuno and Jynx she can easily fight off Fighting-types. With Lapras, Cloyester or Slowbro she can easily destroy Rhydon, Golem and aerodactyl. If you give Lapras access to Solarbeam (if it's a one-trun move) she couuld land effective hits to Water types and Fossil mons as well thus saving an extra space, unless one would prefer Thunder over Solarbeam. Lastly she could run sort of fluffy cold resistant Pkmn like Snoralx, chansey, wigglituff to add some versitility and pose a threat to Psychic pkmn and give her acces to thunder wave.
    For Agatha, if she is more status condition/fast sweepers focused she could go for pkmn like Gengar, Alakazam, Exeggutor, Starmy, Ninetails and a more physicaly based Mew to cover her lack of Attack based moves.
    For Bruno, it could be mainly Physical Attack focused. Like Tauros, Rhydon, Machamp, the improved Pinsir, Snorlax possibly or a Persian. If he is running mostly Normal-types the only threat would be strong Special users and improved Fighting-types but Pinsir and possibly a Scyther as well could cover that weakness. Also, Snorlax could be an amnesia-lax to cover for that SPecial lack. An alternative option could be Hypno to resist strong Special Psychic users and pose a threat with thunder wave and hypnosis at the same time. Unfortunatelly, it's not type focused but it's not too bad.
    For Lance he could literaly run Pkmn which have access to dragon rage, without necessarily knowing dragon rage. Apart from Mew there are Charizard, Arcanine, Gyrados, Lapras, Aerodactyl and Dragonte able to learn the move. Also, a Zapdos could cover his weakness against water/ice and play the third Pkmn of the Fire/Ice/Electric pkmn he may use. If Charizard and Arcanine can use STAB Fire Blasts, and Lapras STAB Blizzards, having a Zapdos with STAB Thunder suits well the team.
    For Blue he could go for Rhydohn, Jolteon, Exegutor, Gyrados, Moltres and Mewtwo. His Pkmn can pretty much access all types with the exception of Ghost (taking into account Gyrados can run Dragon-type-slam if wants to) if not it can be replaces by the supperior Starmy or Slowbro. Moltres can beat the now-dangerous Bugs, Jolteon beats all the Birds and water types. Rhydon gives some great cverage against Normal-types, Exeggutor is important for running the status moves. Mewtwo is Mewtwo :P

    That's a super creative take on the Pikachu changes, and I love most of the changes you're giving here. The only changes I'm a little skeptical on here are the changes to rock and poison type moves, specifically. I feel like poison is going a bit too far in the offensive direction, and it might fit the spirit of the game a bit more to give poison type moves lower base power with higher secondary poison chance effects. I feel like poison was meant to rely on damage over time effects, and I'm a bit worried that the poison status will remain fairly irrelevant with all the power buffs.
    With rock type moves, I feel like low accuracy is part of rock's identity, and while gen 1 went way overboard on that concept, I feel like rock type moves really shouldn't have any accuracies above 90% to reflect that. Even today, almost every non exclusive physical rock type move in the game has 80% or 90% accuracy, and I feel like that's completely fine since rock is such a good type offensively. So I think rock throw and rock slide should both be 90% accuracy to maintain the spirit of rock type moves being risky while simultaneously making them playable.

    Idk why but if it’s possible I’d love to see a feature where early game at the beginning opening you choose regular mode or yellow mode, regular mode would be basically a remake of og red and blue where you can choose charmander, bulbasaur, and squirtle as starters and yellow mode follows the yellow story line with pikachu idk I think this is a good and bad idea as it ruins the point of yellow and would take much longer for this mod basically to come out so maybe there could be starter Pokémon in the wild (Idk if it was already the case I wasn’t really following the updates each time they came out so that’s mb) overall I’m very hyped for this game as it seems good so far so keep up the good work 👍

      In base Yellow, you get gifted the other starters as you progress through the game.

      @Shalakor oh yeah your right I forgot that, but what I meant was in yellow, You get the first stater in curlean city rather than the start of the game like red and blue and in lets go where you can find bulbadaur and charmander and squirtle in the wild I was talking about one of those things so my bad for the confusion but thank you for catching my mistake
