Me while using up 3 command squad kits, a praetor kit, old event marines, parts of MKII jump pack assault marines and endless bitz and bobs of special / energy weapon upgrade kits to build a single, horribly overcosted 300pts veteran squad: Yes, yes, efficiency is key.

Using some Black Templar chain swords and the helmet from the Tank Commander sprue, with a banner added, I made my own command squad. I guess that saved me $71.00 lol.
About to expand it to a Templar Squad of 10, using again some Black Templar bitsies that have laid in the bitzbox for years.
Use those Bits guys, you can do heaps with the base box and some imagination. I have added Illiastus Assault Cannon to the Rhino using the heavy bolter sponson and and some plasticard tubes. Use Chuppa Chup sticks if you need to. There is so much you can do without needing a huge budget.

Hey, any chance you could go through some build options for certain types of armies for the generic units? Like I'm looking at doing a rapid assault force and would love to know some of the great synergies and to make it fluffy.
Wondering how we could do a force focus on tanks, rapid assault, mass troops, recon, etc... That would be a cool set of videos for us new people!

Late to this video, but I wanted to add that I've found it best to listen to the audiobooks, find a character you like, a moment you like too if possible and then go from there.
I'm going with Corswain getting to Terra to *REDACTED*. I buy what I know was there, and can expand from that later. But that right there is a manageable project, with heroic fluff. It's an idea I use when making Lord of the Rings armies.

I mean maybe it's just me, but building your list in blocks of 500 points is what I do. I start off at 1500 and build up to 2k when I like the list and find combos in it that I like. It just makes the most sense. Also building command squads for armies is like the most fun, since you get to go wild with styling and equipment. Now just to wait for boxes of MK3s to come back in stock in Canada to build my nemesis destroyers.

As much as I'd like to follow my original plan, the problem I run into is that the mark of power armor is not at the current scale.
I'm a big fan of the Legion MkIV destroyer armor (the one FW has for destroyer squads), when HH1.0 was out I almost built a full force of converted destroyers.
Right now I am thinking of building a Iron Hands legionary force. Lots of tanks, dreads, and heavily armored infantry. Combine it with my older bits that I already have from 1.0 collection (25 cataphractii and 15 tartaros, plus a bunch of bits from Legion mk3/4 and new boxset).
I hope that GW redoes the Mk4 destroyers squads that FW has, cause I'll love to make some "regular" infantry

For a new HH player this is great! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge (=
Been playing 40k for 12 years give or take but i have barley any knowledge what so ever how to build or play a 30k army. Would be nice to have a follow up for each unit type. Like what should i think of when building my fist tactical squads - should they all have bolters why/why not etc. When do i build a special weapons squad and what weapons do i get the "most bang for my bucks" etc.
I didn't bought the age of darkness box because it felt unbalanced if thats the word :)
    Thus far i have bought:
    20x MK III Troops (gw)
    1x Rhino (gw)
    1x Iron Hands Transfer Sheet
1x MK III Command Set (fw)
    1x Legion Praetors set (fw)
    1x Iron Hands Heads (fw)
3x Iron Hands Shoulder Pads set (fw)
1x Iron Hand Iron Father (fw)
1x Techmarine in MK III Armour (fw)
10x Iron Hands Medusan Immortals (fw)
5x Iron Hands Legion MK III Squad (fw)
Thus far i think i am on the right path, building a "solid" core? :)

      @@joshuaginn792 Good Questions (=
My initial “plan” is to glue/build and paint what I think (?) would be a solid start of troops/hq etc.
      Warriors on foot (=
Since I just picked up HH I know very little and what little I know is from this channel or sites like Goonhammer. I’m still waiting for the two gw books ^^
Hence, as I build what I have I hope to catch up on the reading and know what direction I think would suit me. I know Iron Hands are towards vehicles but, I still need some footslogging warriors wherever I end up. If I do the “boring” work now simultaneously as I learn the basics, then I can do the fun (heavier stuff) later.
Hope that was at least some sort of answer for your questions? :)

Tactical squads - in Heresy, they are always bolters, all the time, though if you're looking to kitbash or convert some models, you could build out Despoilers (essentially walking assault marines) or Breachers (tactical squad with boarding/riot shields, and 1 in 5 can take a special weapon). Sergeants can take the usual suite of melee, pistol, and combi-weapons, plus hand flamers and volkite serpentas. A sergeant can also take Artificer Armour (do it) and the unit can upgrade 1 each of Nuncio-Vox (help your own scatter rolls), Augury Scanner (free shots at deep striking units!), and a Vexilla (you want this).
I'm a fan of the 15 man tactical squad - beefy enough to dish and take damage, but not so massive as to be unwieldy on the table. That would leave you 10 or so bodies to put together a second, 10-man squad as a second Troops unit. Or, go 10/10 and take the 5 remaining models to start up a support squad - what you've listed so far lacks anti-tank power, so I would look into a squad of meltagunners to rush up in the Rhino, or some Volkite because its hella cool. Also consider giving your Techmarine a special weapon (again, I'm leaning towards melta here) to add a bit more unit flexibility to one of those tactical squads.
Future expansion: dreadnoughts, 100%. The multi-melta and lascannon options are an easy pick to solve ranged tank hunting, while Gravis Power Fists are Brutal (hehe).

I started my Wolves some time before 2.0 after reading Wolfsbane and deciding that yes. Primarchs Chosen it is. But I magnetised my dreadnoughts arms, made tartaros with one guy having magnetised bolter arm and banner arm, magnetised options on my stock HQ centurion and the entire volkite support squad has arms on magnets.
This allowed me quickly decide that with new rules I want my volkites to be another stalkers unit. Instead of buying new squad I just looked at my bits box and painted extra arms for this squad. Then I found assault marines fancy and hey - I have apothecary and hq with magnetised backpack/jump pack.
Essentialy. Magnets guys. Buy magnets and a drill. You can thank me later ;)
