This week, Dan takes us on a tour of his house in Thailand. Someday, he might go over there and not come back, but not today! We expect he will be doing a winter hike with us before Christmas. He can't resist.

The issan house looks great The best of luck to you and your family.
What a beautiful home you have … 🙏
He has a wonderful home that will be solid for generations!
Nice house !
I love the house. Would appreciate knowing the amount of land. 2 Rai ?. Would love to have an approximate cost to build now. Last but not least, would you consider selling a set of plans of the house ?
I think the total land area is about 5 rai. We built right while the world was shut down for Covid, so things were much less expensive than now. As for the house plans, let me ask my wife if we have a copy. (I will give them to you if we do.) If we don't have a copy, I will ask our contractor and architect, if you are serious.
Need a pool and it will be A slice of heaven…….Beautiful…….
Lol, pools are over-rated!
Yeah, I am still thinking about that.
Congratulations, it’s a beautiful house. But at the beginning you said you built in on land you and your wife own, surely you meant your wife owns, you may have paid for it but she owns it. I wish you the best, your home is stunning.
Thanks a lot! Yes, my wife holds title to the house and land. I have a 30 year lease, so that nobody can mess me over.
It's so interesting to watch people who made it work... Having also built a house in Thailand, it didn't quite go as well for me. I didn't lose money, but getting used to the Thai time and the jumps with the internals, sent me a little doo-dally! I'd never do it again (for all you thinking about doing the same) Renting is so cheap, that interest on a high-yield savings account will cover that. You also will have the option to move at any point..... It's just a perspective! Congrats. It's beautiful!
Absolutely, the rental is definitely the way to go. For Daniel, he has his wife's family living there, so it is a permanent residence for Sunisa regardless of what happens. It worked out quite well for him and is a wonderful home for generations!
@@AnythingOutdoorswithSteve You'll make it work for sure, I'm just letting those TH-cam romantics a little realism.. Rent people! Unless you have deep pockets..
If I had remained single, I would probably just rented and moved around during retirement. I wanted to make sure my wife has security when I am gone, so I built a house.
@@danielmitchell3848 Hi Daniel, I'm really happy it's working out for you! I was just expressing my experience. We all have an experience, but it's great that people like ourselves are truthful. Don't come to Thailand and be disrespectful, being Johnny Big balls here is not going to work!
Wow , great place. A couple of hammocks and you will be sit!
Love the curtains where did you get them?
Nice dude! How many square meter interior living space is that?
I believe it is around 510
Just watch your video. You and your family built a nice house.
I'm guessing you payed over the odds on the build? Or you went over budget.
I can assure you that it went way over budget. hahaha
Beautiful house! Congratulations! I like your coconut trees. I’m curious what fruit trees grow well in a location like that in Issan. Like your gate. I’m torn if I’d prefer a gate or compound with stone walls surrounding. Gate is definitely better for seeing the beautiful scenery. Thanks for sparing us the view of your bum. How long have you studied Thai? I’ve only done basic and am learning to read now. Hopefully it gets easier at some point. Tone rules make me crazy. Thanks for the tour!
Sorry for the slow reply! I was surprised to see that mangoes do quite well here. I plan on planting a few more mango trees tomorrow. The coconuts are doing well. Bananas grow really well. Papaya, of course, does well. Watermelons and other melons really ripen sweet here.
A stunning villa, indeed, but it's like an oasis in a desert of need. Beauty and disparity sharing the same zip code.
True that! Life is surely unfair.
Really nice house, can you say me Which contractor did you use to build the house
Why do you have a tall metal fence surrounding the house.
It is mostly to keep out the neighbor's dogs. We plan on putting up a perimeter fence around the entire property later.
@@danielmitchell3848 Two perimeter fences to keep out feral dogs? Sounds charming - 555
Congratulation. Did you realize it by a general contractor? Including of arcitecture hplanning, and building? Thank you.
I sketched out the original design, and had an architect turn it into a blueprint. I had a general contractor do the building, and hired a relative to watch the project like a hawk.
Beautiful house and wide space. I should say mansion 😂😂😂😂 instead of house.
What a humble abode!
Hi - I am planning a house build in Korat and (similar to you) am drafting the design myself before handing over to a professional to create plans for the build. Your house is similar in size to what I need (and I love the outside kitchen area) so I will be “borrowing” some of your ideas for my design. While I appreciate you may not want to share, I would really like an understanding the final budget - excluding any costs for the land.
Daniel is on a flight currently, but I am sure he is willing to divulge some information
@@AnythingOutdoorswithSteve Thank you so much
@richstu2 in the event he doesn't want this as public knowledge, send an email through the channel email and I will make sure he sees one or the other
Superb house! Without indiscretion, what was the construction cost?
Dan decided to keep that confidential, to prevent too much gossip in his village.
@@AnythingOutdoorswithSteve Does he share the plan ? Or part of it ?
@steevesdemers4201 he did show me the floor plan as he was creating it, wanting an electrician opinion. At the time, he had walked through my house that I had just built for perspective on what he wants. I don't have a way to show anything in the comments and am unsure if he still has his floor plan.
Where is this house located at? Is it in the village outside of Udorntanie? Very beautiful house. Are you moving to Thailand permanently?
In Issan, and he will be moving there after retirement.
It is in Phiboonrak. We will eventually move here permanently. My final resting place will be in the temple in Phiboonrak.
where does the sink, and shower water drain down to. I usually there are no pipes
Standard septic tank situation here
We have a well for water and the drain goes to a septic tank.
The house has two septic tanks.
