it doesn't really work. in fact this is designed to look good for a video and last maybe a few months. give it a year and that structure will be destroyed and rotten. this was just a show build. there was no proper thought given to drainage, no thought given to the floor, and the wood used for the walls will all shrink as it dries out, so how he built them won't last. I've made log cabin houses, you have to consider the shrinkage of the wood in design, and he gave it zero thought. in fact how he built it will only make it worse when it shrinks. as i said. it's meant to look good on camera but a functional hut? maybe for a season. at most. furthermore, these types of cabins should be perfectly sound to use in tundra if built right, and i doubt what he made would even be remotely warm when it's 40 outside let alone -5... that door is more show then functional as well. just huge sections of the built to lose heat. again this was built for looks not for function or longevity.

This is awesome! It kinda makes me sad though. There are so many homeless ppl yet with some work, there could be places for all ppl to live. I know I’d much rather have this shelter than a bench u set a tree! Yet there are so many that think the cost of building places for ppl to live, makes it impossible to do on mass. Yes you need land, etc. However I think if ppl stopped expecting mansions & marble floors. We could build some awesome sustainable homes for ppl to live in. This is some amazing work! Reminds me of part of my great grandparents home. My grgramps built his own basement, cold sellers, etc There were several shelters on his land that were all built in similar ways that only cost the time they took to build & a good meal for any helpers! Thanks for sharing!! ❤
Who pays for the upkeep, liability, and damage? Who gets sued when one of the tenant's create a hazard and someone gets injured? Who's responsible for the cleanup between tenants? Everything is solid in concept, but when you actually plan the logistics of making it happen, it quickly becomes unsustainable.
Absolutely 100% agree with you and were I am from our city is overwhelmed with homeless ppl so bad taking up shelter in our bus shelters! Our crime rates would go down if our city equip them with the pallets needed and tools to do it with and ppl to supervise them of course because alot of them here are homeless because stems from their addictions this way keeps them busy too busy to commit the crimes and they doing something for themselves at least and at the same time envirnomentally safe and what better way to give back to our planet then recycle what ends up in our landfill sites you know? The only issue here is some winters it can get very cold like -40-50 but only for maximum couple wks. Although we have been very fortunate not to have seen that type of weather for couple years now but still need to be sure what they build will withstand our harsh winters we get after all my city isn't nicknamed Winterpeg for no reason lol!

Awesome job, I loved watching this video! Don't let old world knowledge die out, learn how to make things, grow things, and preserve. Don't be so dependent on technology, go out, learn and do it yourself!😎Thanks.
Lovely work. One significant design flaw is rainwater management to the open below ground level stepped entrance. In heavy rain it will certainly flood.
I wonder about that. The video doesn’t address much drainage. I would imagine there was some level of civil engineering done here. He wouldn’t put all that work in without protecting the cabin from water. With his skill sets, he surely understands this.
Wondering about frost heaving too, those walls would push in if it's anywhere cold in the winter. Don't want to critique it too much, but something to consider if copying.
The detail that no one should overlook is that this house will flood when the snow melts. Another concern is that it can't withstand a potential excess of rain. Houses like this are interesting to build on hillsides, as we can integrate a drainage system. On flat terrain, a whole waterproofing system must be designed; otherwise, we end up literally underwater. I've had these types of difficulties before, so believe me, it's a problem. Be careful!
@@JustMeUpNorth I've seen a lot of this style of dugout, but I'm from Florida where I'm always curious how these would tolerate our frequent rain deluges.
My first thought while watching this was that this project is a perfect manifestation of the 80/20 theory. It took me longer to change the tire on my electric scooter than it did for Roman to build that awesome cabin. I'm still sulking about the blisters. It's good to know there are people with these skills - and the energy to put them to work. Respect, Roman! If I dug a small hole in my parents' lawn, I'd be breaking about 20 building codes & likely get sued. I live in an apt building, so the only thing I do for the property is walk around the grass.
I think you did a beautiful job. It's cozy, sturdy and well built. I could live there during the summer months too. Under ground during the summer months would be so much cooler. 😊 You're fabulous carpenter and builder. 👷♂️ ❤️
Everything is beautiful - there is a table, there is a bed, there is a fireplace. But if you want to cook something or even boil water for tea or coffee, there is nothing for you to do. So, in my opinion, this dugout is a bit unfinished. And by the way, it's great, and the guy put a lot of work into it. ❤❤❤

Spectacular . When the hard rain hits, the front door floods along with the floor, 1 flaw in a masterpiece 👍
Be careful!
Happened a lot with Anderson shelters in the Second World War.
@@JustMeUpNorth I've seen a lot of this style of dugout, but I'm from Florida where I'm always curious how these would tolerate our frequent rain deluges.
Exactly as soon as it rains the water is coming down those stairs and inside the cabin.
It will allow lots of water in but it will drain through in second as the soil is pure sand. Timber will rot pretty quick though.
Termites?

It took me longer to change the tire on my electric scooter than it did for Roman to build that awesome cabin. I'm still sulking about the blisters.
It's good to know there are people with these skills - and the energy to put them to work. Respect, Roman!
If I dug a small hole in my parents' lawn, I'd be breaking about 20 building codes & likely get sued. I live in an apt building, so the only thing I do for the property is walk around the grass.
😂
i do not envy you

Thats a really nice swimming pool. I can't wait til Mother Nature fills it up!

😢😢😢
Que triste
Thanks for sharing his story. ❤
видео 37 минут идёт. как это ты его всю ночь смотрела?

I think you did a beautiful job. It's cozy, sturdy and well built. I could live there during the summer months too. Under ground during the summer months would be so much cooler. 😊 You're fabulous carpenter and builder. 👷♂️ ❤️
Everything is beautiful - there is a table, there is a bed, there is a fireplace. But if you want to cook something or even boil water for tea or coffee, there is nothing for you to do. So, in my opinion, this dugout is a bit unfinished. And by the way, it's great, and the guy put a lot of work into it. ❤❤❤
Nah, he can do all that inside his fireplace
Não tem banheiro 🪠🚽😂

When I was a kid I always dreamed of having an underground little house. Even though I never had one, I always worried about flooding . I am beyond impressed with your work, thank you for sharing.
There will be a flooding problem here too. Look at the steps.
Literally saw the seasons changing and the evolution from hammer and nails to screw gun 😂
Awesome job!!! This guy is a genius.
I’ll be watching these vids more and more. I’m a big outdoors person and I totally think one day this will come in handy! Stores may be closed but these things will still be accessible. I’m down to throw myself in the wild for a bit!
