Call me crazy but this actually the 1st time I've seen nothing but positive comments on anyone's video. Almost everything that was said on here crossed my mind one way or another. This is the 1st outdoor video I've seen with positive attitude despite setbacks, all for the love of nature. I'm Loving the vibe of everyone.
I noticed you said, "ever since I quit drugs and alcohol"-firstly, well done ! Secondly, I am watching this just finishing off my taper on subutex (an opiate substitute like methadone) and it is really helping me pull through. I am three years without booze now and the opiates are the final thing to stop. I love the outdoors so much and cannot wait to get back out there. All the best from the UK.

I love watching your videos (ASMR) and highly instructional. I have a Fishing tip for you all (especially Xander). When you're ready to fish with either live bait or with lures, it's always smart to wash your hands with Lake water, then; you need to rub your hands in any grass, dirt, mud, or seaweed you can find (just like you did with the dirt at the 21:10 mark in this video. When you're handling a lot of different things, it's important to realize that fish are all about Sight, Sound, and Scent. It is your scent on the lures that can easily dissuade the fish from being attracted. Great Video !!!
You have slowly became my favorite survivalist to watch. Don't worry about people complaining about small game hunting it's perfectly natural. you do you. Look forward to more videos. As a suggestion you should always carry a handline setup in your pack. If your pole breaks you always have a backup. It weighs basically nothing and doesn't take up any space bro.
Another inspiring trip into the wilderness. You make it feel as though it’s just the two of us and not a million followers who may be listening in. Despite the difficulties you encountered, we were all rewarded with your love of the outdoors. Thank you.
I love that you pointed out the moment where you hesitated about taking a fish so large, and whether you'd be able to manage it properly. Really shows how much you respect the lives of animals you take.
I bought a frozen chicken pot pie and am going to bake it, and then dehydrate it, all because of YOU, Xander! See how you’ve enriched my life? I’m so excited!
I felt that genuine happiness when you finally got that big fish. I can't believe that it took an enormous amount of attempts for that. The feeling resonated, such a lovely experience once again
I’ve fly fished mainly targeting trout for many years. Brown trout, rainbow trout, and as you’ve caught here a brookie. This is a trophy fish not just for its size but also it’s fall colours. Beautiful late season male. Congrats
Every other video, he breaks something, God bless this guy. He’s the truth teller that outdoor gear doesn’t always last the way you want it to. Go get them boy.
Thank you for being willing to take all of us into the woods with you. Citified Americans like me often don't get to go and your cinematography and story telling always lift my spirits. That three things I'm grateful for, three things I want to accomplish today, and one affirmation was a game-changer for me and such an unexpected blessing. I have been using it every day to start my day since seeing your vid. Thank you again for all you do for us and for demonstrating how to respect and love the outdoors!
Love your channel, man. The positivity is so infectious, I'm gonna start writing down what I am grateful for and what I want to achieve in my day. It's so easy to fall into a negative mindset these days, your channel reminds me what actually matters: Health, discipline and nature.
I wish I had more time, money and energy to camp. Watching these videos bring me closer to my dad who passed last year, he used to love camping more than anyone else in my life. Truly love your videos!
I'm really glad to see you advancing into hunting content. It's definitely a crucial skill in the quest to become a well-rounded outdoors man. The appeal of traditional bow hunting over other forms of hunting to me is the fact that you need to become one with the land in order to find success. You're not just sitting in a tree shooting at animals 50-100 yards away, or blasting away into the air with a shotgun until you hit something. No disrespect to those forms of hunting, which still require great skill in their own right, but the ceiling for personal growth is so much higher with traditional forms of hunting.
What a fascinating video. Of all the survivalists and outdoorsmen that are on TH-cam at the moment, you are somebody who I can relate to the most. You seem to know what you're doing but you still seem to be figuring it all out as you go along. Great journey Xander. I'd love to see 100 hours, but don't put yourself at risk.
Your videos are always a treat, especially on Fridays after a long week. I like how you stayed positive on the first day even when everything was collapsing around you. Can't wait to see the 100h version!
These long form videos are my favorite. Your voice and demeanor are so relaxing that it helps me sleep. I have insomnia, so sleep hard. They also make this city mouse want to spend more time outdoors.
As someone who has spent months living in the wilderness, may I suggest finding a decent wiener stick and cooking your fish on a stick above the fire. You won't eat nearly as much charcoal, and it's easier to stay clean. Thank you for sharing your journey, you've helped me remember things that I can improve on, some I did right, and some I never thought of.
Way to go Xander, despite the troubles with your rod and such, you kept smiling and trying. It paid off big time, you were rewarded!! Keep doing what you do!!

I loved the reality of this video. When you are in the woods you will lose fish, things will break, and you will meet many temptations. But persevering, adapting, and recognizing the best decisions is what got you through those 50 hours. Also the goals and affirmation were super cool, definitely going to try that. Love the vids Xander! Keep it up!
I love that you included all the throws with a counter. And your happiness when you caught the fish after a while day without food and hundreds of throws was contagious. You were rewarded. Many people would have given up. The dinner was a good dose of humor and gags... But man, that was begging for a bottle of wine.
Somehow, even on the busiest of days I always manage to find some time to watch your videos, the feeling of escapism you get from them is really something unique, thank youuu!
That fuzzy little mushroom is a Hedgehog and they're actually quite yummy. I think the 1st ones you found were false chanterelles - you can tell that by them growing in singles or very small groupings and also when the ridges don't go down the majority of the stem. Glad you didn't eat them because you might have gotten sick! I appreciate your innovation and perseverance because that was a beautiful fish! Thanks for the content, Xander. It never disappoints!
@@CascadeBackcountry omg, you're right. Honestly I see both of those around here so often that I just avoid them because I have a really hard time being able to tell which is which. I just know the false ones often grow by themselves or in very small groupings and don't have the ridges all the way down the stipe. I had a mom and daughter who came into my ER who had eaten several of them and both ended up in ICU; mom for 2 nights, daughter just one.
Yeah definitely winter chanterelle - it's the mushroom I pick the most myself. And they're honestly hard to mistake for something else except other edible mushrooms. I've read about people mistaking it for deadly webcap (!) but I'm note sure how. Carelessness I guess. Also the false chanterelle is reminiscent of the regular chanterelle, but not winter chanterelle which has a distinctively different look.
Was wondering... I would have passed on those because they don't look like the chanterelles I've been hunting the last two weekends, with ridges that go all the way down. Never seen winter ones!

I just discovered this channel 2 days ago and since then, I’ve been binge watching all of your videos. I wish I can experience all of the things that you’re doing. Keep it up man! Love all the way from Philippines! ❤
You provided us with an expertly filmed journey, even on a hugely empty stomach. That’s just amazing and I am grateful to you! Great vid, great experiment with a happy ending. Nice scenery, too. Thanks!
Very impressive and what a fantastic positive attitude you have Xander! I see why you and Jon get along so well ;-) Love the daily meditations and thanks again for taking us along!💜
Wow. What an adventure this one was. From the broken pole to the soaked boot to the lost/broken arrows to the sparseness of food. What a huge mental challenge. Not entirely sure I would've stayed as positive as you did. That was the biggest Brookie I've ever seen, too! Good on ya for keeping a cool head and positive attitude, Xander! Thanks for taking us along and sharing some of your wisdom and skills!
Thanks for another amazing video! I’d love to hear more about your battles with drugs and alcohol. I’m a recovering addict myself, coming up on 5 years sober in March! Keep up the good work man!
your filming and editing skills are so good... and your vibrant energy even when not eating is quite astonishing , specially with all this physical effort. i'm enjoying your channel since the beginning, keep on rocking :)

I enjoyed the little hurdles of the broken fishing pole, lost fish, wet shoe, etc. That’s reality and what happens on many camping trips. Great video, thanks.
What a challenge. I just discovered your channel so I don’t your your. back story. You did quickly mention drugs/alcohol. I am so happy to see another successful person who has recovered. I’m allergic to fish so I would be screwed trying this type of challenge. The rock shelter was cool. What a beautiful lake & place. I can only imagine that feeling of complete excitement after FINALLY catching that fish. Thank you for taking us along , I’m proud you were able to overcome your addiction & have found a new path on your life’s journey. ❤.
Man I was so stoked when you finally got that fish haha! Put a huge smile on my face. I love your videos. My wife’s about to have a boy, watching these make me so excited to take him camping one day.
Hey Xander, I recently came across your channel and I'm loving it! The filming is just perfect, bonfire, sunsets, dawn, water reflections, nature, all 10/10.
Xander- When I see you have a new adventure to share I always wait for a time when I can really enjoy watching. This is one of your best, in my opinion. 50 hrs. is a long time to survive alone in the woods. But an amazingly short time to experience life's best lessons: Gratitude, Persistence, Ingenuity, Creativity, Acceptance, Awareness and more. So much to experience. I would be curious to know how many casts it took to land that one fish. If that doesn't illustrate persistence paying off, I don't know what would. Amazing adventure. Thanks for sharing!
Another great video, Xander. You earned that chocolate bar so much. My compliments for just keeping to fishing until you succeed, that's the way to get anything done that you want in life. Love to see you being almost one with nature and having all that respect for everything alive.
You're on an exceptionally deep journey that most people wouldn't ever consider taking. You've got all my support and respect to do what you think is necessary to become a more mindful person, which I think includes wanting to become a better angler and hunter. Feeling connected to the dirt your standing on and appreciating nature in a more primal but nonetheless natural way. More power to you, sincerely! Love what you're doing!
I discovered your channel, via Jon and his Lost Lakes channel. I watched your canoe trip with him. I must say, watching your channel and his give me peace. Watching the winter trips give me a feeling of relaxation. I can't describe it. I'm a new subscriber to you and I must say, "I'm thankful to be one." I'm so thankful I discovered your channel, too. Thanks Xander.
You have come so far brother.. I swing back to this video because it is so different then today. The effort you put into catching that trout was epic, and truly well deserved. You on your knee's was the best 2 minutes of your entire video career... You are such a different person today. So confident and knowledgeable now about so much.. Proud of you brother.. Keep on! Keepin on!! Penticton BC Canada. ps. The way you tamed your demons is amazing. I saw the emptiness in your eyes, and the struggles you had back then,, and now you are becoming a man any father would be proud of... I can't wait for the next adventure... Thank you for everything you do for us!.. Much love to you and your family.........
Always great videos thanks for sharing...to see the energy restored to you just landing that fish after the rough start just proves how important it is to stay positive when it is hard to👍
You need to start investing in a folding net. They fit in a bag easily, can extend 5ft or so, and will save you a lot of lost fish and stop you from slipping off edges all the time and make fish retrieval much safer and less traumatic for the fish.
Definitely right to dump the orange jacket. It spooked those fishies. I kept fancy fish and bought them a fake orange tree for the tank. The fish were so upset they stopped feeding and hid from it.
I'm sure this has been said before, but...I just want to say how much it means to see guys like you showing mistakes in videos and helping other people learn. I'll make sure to check my poles on the way out next time :) Thanks for the videos.
Just some helpful tips for people watching. In a survival situation you want to conserve as many calories as possible. Wearing a backpack while fishing is useless calorie expenditure and increases your chances of getting injured which can easily be fatal when you’re alone. Another thing to be careful of is when you’re sleeping in caves or under rocks and you want a fire, you NEED to slowly heat the rock before you create a large fire. If you make your fire too fast the rocks can crack and kill you in your sleep! Finally. If you managed to get some of your socks wet (or any smaller clothing items) if you put the wet socks in your sleeping bag your body heat will dry them out overnight. A water bottle with warm water will also help keep you warm in a sleeping bag when it gets super cold!
Yo man More I watch your videos more I know about your personality. You are a good man. So respectful about the nature as you respect yourself. That’s the reason why I absolutely like ur videos. Have a good day Xander.
You know wearing bright orange is fine when you're hunting because I've heard that deer can't see the orange. Fish can though. Fish see bright orange. They hear you move and drop stuff on the rocks. You actually have to sneak up on fish unless you're in a noisy river with limited visibility range. Fish in a quiet clear lake are the hardest to catch. If you can't move in quietly, stoop down in the brush or amongst the rocks and wait five minutes before casting because fish have the attention span of a cat. They'll forget they saw you come up. Also, lures aren't always effective.
I don't know what that other rude lad is on about who replied to you, this is super helpful to know. Just started getting into fishing more, appreciate it!
FINALY !!! You got a bite . And what a bite. I call it a red trout , one of the most exellent fish you can catch ! And eat . I realy enjoy your vids . So down to earth .. and a siblime sence of humour . Love those in the winther best . Please keep posting . Best regards from Copenhagen . 😉💯🖤👌

Xander keep up the great work. I’m a new subscriber and really enjoy your uploads. I used to be a follower of Joe Robinet, for years, but he has lost his way on bushcraft, basic survival etc content. Now I see him camping in trailers, using quads etc. Not what I’m after. Your content is exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you.
I was 2 and a half years sober but I slipped December 21st 2023… so now I’m only 4 and a half months… but I will get there again. I am strong and I’m worth it! And god loves me :) Ps. I too am from Canada. BC bound! Haha Edit: I’m writing this as you caught your first fish and landed it!
mushrooms are only 100 calories per POUND, folks. They are not really worth harvesting and cooking much less hunting for them and learning which is toxic. A lb of mushrooms is a BIG pile and you need 3000 calories per day just to sit in a shelter when it's cold, damp, windy. All mushrooms CAN do for you is provide a bit of minerals and some taste to help you choke down stuff that you otherwise couldn't eat.
Really enjoying your videos. I just came across your channel recently after being a big Joe Robinet fan for years. I appreciate the authenticity and the fact you're really out there doing it for all of us to see, successes and failures alike. Some channels out there stage stuff and half their advice would get someone killed in a real survival situation.
i am all the way happy with your stuff brother! so a quick suggestion, from a former boy scout instructor on the wilderness survival merit badge. a fishing pole is a luxury. next time, and im not judging at all, try packing in a hand line. its something you can set, with a bait, like a worm or a salamander, or some type of bait. you can set that out, and leave it while you get camp set up, and gather firewood or berries or mushrooms, or whatever other plant stuff you need. cedar for tea.....love it. but anyway, you can hunt for small game while that hand line is out in the water with no attention needed. just a quick heads up, another suggestion to your already great ideas. hope that little bit helps for your next trip! and again, next time you want to head to the Monongahela National Forest in WV.....hit me up. Ill camp with you anyday
Sorry I haven't tuned in for a while. Life has been crazy. Gratz on the 2 years and thanks for the hard work you put in. Staying positive in a tough situation like this wasn't easy, but the persistence rewarded you with that beauty of a meal. The fish, no the chocolate. ;) Looking forward to catching up with the rest of your videos.
Hi Xander! I know this is an old video but if by any chance you are reading this here's a thought. I've kinda been binge watching your videos lately, and I think I've seen many occasions you losing a fish the second you grab the fishing line with your hand. Now that I think about it, I'm almost certain I've been told by an experienced fisherman to absolutely never grab the line with my hand. I know you always don't carry a net, but maybe you could do the dragging ashore -thing with your rod. Just a thought. Thank you for the awesome content!

It would be a cool series to do though, tack on a day each time you go out just to see how many days you can go. I would watch it for sure. Nice vid man, keep em coming.
Hahaha thanks for watching. That would be cool
Your gratitude for nature and the food you work soo hard for, is a blessing to watch!
I just discovered this channel 2 days ago and since then, I’ve been binge watching all of your videos. I wish I can experience all of the things that you’re doing. Keep it up man! Love all the way from Philippines! ❤
Ey same
I like that you show the reality of surviving. Ups AND DOWNS. Thank you for this.
The amount of joy when you caught that fish is so great to see, had to admit i was also pretty pumped lol
One of my favorite videos from you! I hope you do another!! My husband harvests our meat and I'm so grateful for it.
Wow, thank you for saving me almost an hour of happiness.Time flies so fast. I'm always rooting for you here far away.🤞
Xander has slowly but surely become one of my most favorite TH-camrs and anytime he uploads I know I’m going to have a good night watching it.
your filming and editing skills are so good... and your vibrant energy even when not eating is quite astonishing , specially with all this physical effort. i'm enjoying your channel since the beginning, keep on rocking :)
🙏
Thought the same thing, thank you
Wow, that was an absolutely enormous brook trout. Not only huge, but a hook-jawed male in full regalia. Amazing catch!
After falling in the lake, losing the fish and snapping the rod, I was half expecting that tree to fall on you, I was like no Xander no Xander no Xander no Xander 😳😱😬 lol you are always so fun to watch! thanks for your great content 🖤🤘🏻🖤
I enjoyed the little hurdles of the broken fishing pole, lost fish, wet shoe, etc. That’s reality and what happens on many camping trips. Great video, thanks.
Truly one of my all-time favorite outdoor youtube channels. Super entertaining, super informational. Keep up the good work man
What a challenge.
Late congrats bro 🎉
When you screamed yes and it echoed back made me so happy for you. It's like we were right there with you 🥳
500,000! Woohoo! Congratulations, Xander!

I don't think I've ever been so invested in someone else catching a fish...!
Love this one Xander, I felt like you were tested but that could just be me.. Great positive outlook. Can't wait for the next one!
Thanks for these videos. I’m learning to be more thankful for everything in life! The positive influence is great 👍
Just some helpful tips for people watching.
A water bottle with warm water will also help keep you warm in a sleeping bag when it gets super cold!
only river rocks and sandstone are dangerous in a fire, neither of those were used in this video
Never been so happy see someone finally get a fish. The feast afterwards, primal and pure satisfaction. 10/10 haha
Xander you are an absolute BEAST! Thank you for sharing your amazing adventures with us
Yo man
More I watch your videos more I know about your personality.
I don't think he.... Or ANYONE cares or even asked
Obligatory Majora's Mask reference with the countdown timer
Love this video Xander, the positive attitude and your overall vibe is so great to watch. I think I yelled out along with you when you landed that fish! 😂
Him not catching a fish giving anyone else extreme anxiety....or just me
I was pretty anxious 😟
❤
If you watch his show, you know he's a terrible fisherman.
@@roselyncavalida6630 I know but he is getting better all the time lol
My favourite survival channel by far.
he took the quote "living under a rock " to a whole another level xD
bros so lovable! Stay safe you’re a sunshine of a human
33:33 Glad your perseverance paid off, lovely to see. That big smile says it all!
this video is so relaxing while im sick.
And god loves me :)
Ps. I too am from Canada. BC bound! Haha
Edit: I’m writing this as you caught your first fish and landed it!
It was so fun and exciting to watch, but I always appreciate your hard work. Your attitude always teaches a lesson.
Amazing job. Your talk at minute 38 from your heart made the entire video.
mushrooms are only 100 calories per POUND, folks.
Modesty and honesty, you"re something of an inspiration. A very
Interesting and enjoyable video, thank you.
OMG😊I found a real outdoor survivor channel to watch while staying cozy 😅
Sorry I haven't tuned in for a while. Life has been crazy. Gratz on the 2 years and thanks for the hard work you put in. Staying positive in a tough situation like this wasn't easy, but the persistence rewarded you with that beauty of a meal. The fish, no the chocolate. ;)
Looking forward to catching up with the rest of your videos.
your attitude is amazing, such a role model
Oh man by 7:30... after the wet gumboots, cracked rod, lost fish, lost arrow, the snapped rod and your dejected reaction - comedy gold! 🤣
Fantastic. I am 86 and have gone through survival situations with the air force and the army. 1954 to 64 late4 in or3gon and Idaho. Gree5ings from Indianapolis.
Happy to see you wearing swedish gear! the boreal forest of canada looks so similar to the swedish forests!
