    Try opening up those old max peeding rods to inspect them. Sometimes the nut on the end of the shaft inside comes off. Might be a easy fix and would be interesting to know how it failed.

      Oh shit that reminds me of a time doing a front shock change. Cant remember what it was on but as I undid the top mount which is just a top hat so single nut in the middle. The shaft unscrewed internally and I'd already loosed off the bottom bolts. What a bang and fright you get as it jack knifed the shock and spring towards my nuts. Luckily not more than a hard slap to my leg but aye scary times

    Great Video and review. Your last video with the adjustable Orange and black Coil overs on your CRX made be buy a set. I paid less than 200$ during a sale. I do not care for how bumpy the ride became. Stance looked fine. You were right about them being a budget starter set to get to know your car, which they did. I think next I will get a set that has better ride quality. Thanks Again for the vids

    Likely you need to have the mcpherson style struts to have the chamber adjustment on the strut tower. If you have upper ball joints like older hondas, then your camber adjustment would be on special aftermarket upper ball joint set up..

    I had the black and yellow ones and they were decent but very stiff and they make binding noises. The fronts both blew out after about 10k miles of regular driving. I have purchased two sets of the COT6 black and blue coilovers from eBay for a 03-08 Toyota Matrix and the photo shows the correct coilovers but in the box they are the wrong ones and not the same as the photo. The box had a sticker on it that says 03-08 Matrix so I think they made a mistake at the factory or something. Could have been mislabeled somewhere else in the chain I guess but it is really frustrating. I wanted to try them out but I can’t keep driving on the blown coils.

    Maxspeeding rods would have to redesign the pillow ball area to retain the shock travel .......id prob end up using the MPC lowering shock forks on the front suspension to get more adjustment out of the coilover package. Great video content as usual

    This was a really insightful and honest overview. i remember commenting back when you put the 2nd set in it would be inteeresting from a longevity POV. Great follow up. Loved the track stuff too. Congrats on the podium and on these budget coils, lets all agree these are the same level as suspension found on cheap mountain bikes and there's nothing wrong with that. But evcen so that set failed one in less than 600 miles? I'd just view these as pure aesthetics (not in your case tho it seems!) at the cost of ride quality and longevity of the parts and not a performance part at all (as they stand). If you get performance from your application consider it a bionus. I'd be looking to get a reputable brand for a bit more as once again it's mostly proven, buy cheap, buy twice.

    When you adjust the spring down are you not changing the preload of the spring and putting more of a load on the strut than the spring? Or am I wrong about how that works? Just curious just got a set for my 98 accord. And I actually tightened the springs a few turns to take more of a load off the strut because people have so many problems with them blowing out or just leaking.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. Tightening them as you did does add preload so you might be helping the shocks survive a little longer.

      I've never read of rates affecting the shock life. I'd think at least 2 would be done then since they all withstood the same abuse. I think it's just quality control, they need to continuously building a shock that superior to previous ones they've built.

    Omg finally coilovers that have a higher height for my car 😍 #Acura integra

  • @hondaland_
    @hondaland_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wow they raised prices that high 🤦🤦 not worth it at that price point. Especially if it seems like the coilovers got a revamp on style and not actual performance. If they are going to be that expensive then make model specific versions and correct spring rates for each trim. They can still use the same shocks and get away with it and at least throw correct springs rates for each trim they offer. The spring rates for a crx just don't work well on DC and EG. That's the biggest issue with mine is the soft springs

    You probably figured it out by now but usually you have to settle the suspension in. Meaning test drive it for a couple miles. Not sure how much difference it would make but it would have definitely dropped lower.

  • @Where_we_go
    @Where_we_go 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They added the spring isolator, but didn't take into account what that would do to the minimum height, especially on a "universal" set. Quality might have gotten better, but product research seems to be lacking still.

    For the jump in price I'd wait a while considering they are now n same price range as other known name brands. Like my air ride better tho. Last pair of maxpeedingrod coilovers I had rode well just didn't ever even put more then 5 miles on them b4 started tearing into the car and bagged it.
