      one thing it is better for you lever to brake rather than the whole brake cause it would be really costly

  • @stefanodruetta
    @stefanodruetta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    the real solution: check older shimano levers, they all had a piece of plastic on one half of the bar clamp. new design has none, so it's metal on metal (or carbon) hence they feel like glued even if you undertorque the bolt, still you won't move them with your hands. thus, when they hit the ground, the lever blade snaps. so: grab any thin piece of plastic, cut a strip as large as the clamp, put it between the bars and the clamp, and you're done. torque as specced (or less, better), and you'll be able to turn the whole thing by hand, resulting in fewer chances of braking those levers in case you fall.

    If you wiggle the lever back and forth while trying to take the pin out that may help a lot since the pin has pressure put on it by the spring loaded lever

    been running these for about the same time as you now, much more solid had a few big crashes and didn't trouble them at all.
    The original SLX M7100 lever blades are so weak one snapped in a small crash the other bent 90 degrees putting the bike in the car.
    They say its weak on purpose to protect the lever body, but the replaceable blade was out of stock everywhere plus you don't wanna be replacing the blades after every crash (I crash a lot).

    lol.. great video. Some great points and very good imaging. Thanks for making the time to share.
    PS: does one need to replace the rubber grommet removed when removing the XT lever?
    Coming from MAGURA MT-5 brakeset --- moving to SHIGURA past weeks as I overtorqued my MT-5 carbotecture (plastic) housing on a hose shortening and install --- I can say the XT or even my MT-501 levers are so much better quality build and smoother than MT-5 levers; so, they weigh a few more grams = negligible on MTB. Not sure what everyone is complaining about? Shimano XT/SLX especially look and feel amazing. I'll check into Pro 120 levers --- $100 for a pair seems reasonable, especially when you can buy NEW an 8000 or 8100 XT full lever for $50-60 = $120 a pair for your brakes - a critical component, on a bike costing $2000-$7000+ is not expensive people. Really? You get what you pay for.
    ALSO, if you only tighten your brake levers to handlebar - Snug - 2NM or less .... it will be secure and rotate if you crash. It won't move when operating brakes or your shifters for that matter too. Of course, if your brakes and technique were up to scratch, you wouldn't crash unless you are choosing to cycle trail beyond your skillset? common sense.

    I've been riding bmx and mtb for over 30 years and never once have I broke a brake lever now I've snapped a clutch lever while riding my 89 cr125 but I believe I was an old lever and snapped due to being weathered over the years.

    First, Really like your videos. These look really nice, but the price is really a bit over the top in my opinion. Also, I really like the new SHimano short lever design.
    Granted that this was before the big bike part shortage, but I picked up complete SLX 7100 lever assemblies new in box for $70 per pair. Right now things are crazy in terms of getting replacements, but eventually things will get back to normal. That said, if you have the money or you are breaking levers right and left (never happened to me) they seem legit.

    hm yes the levers will not break again. But the old ones broke because of bending up or down not bending forward like the new ones can an do. Now if you crash your levers will not break but your casting will where the pin goes trough..... let us know your experience.

  • @BennyKyu95
    @BennyKyu95 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    just buy a deore master cylinder and the brake lever wont break again,
    the deore lever is much more stronger and thicker at the breaking point area

    Probably fits the DEORE BL-M6100 levers as well - although the wander bite point issue has nothing to do with the lever but has to do with the Servo Wave tech. Use a non-servo wave brake levers on Shimano Calipers and no more wandering bite point issue.
    All three have the same design (BL-M6100, BL-M7100, and BL-M8100) - throwing money in the wind going with SLX or XT levers. The most cost effective solution would be to get the BL-M6100 levers and proactively replace them with these lever blades. Albeit, I haven't checked how much Magura charges for their brake levers nowadays - those work fine with the Shimano calipers as well but not sure how durable they are.

      @@KeoOutdoors yeah they both have their errors definitely. I don’t like shimano brakes that much, because they’re so hard to fix. with sram it’s their mech with little serviceability as well. They both have lots to work on, but I’m very glad there’s competition so not one can monopolize the market :)
