Don't worry; just use the mis-cuts for shorter tables but just measure at least twice. It'll all get covered up,with the scenics anyway, just as long as it's sturdy!

Some good work there Paul. I’ve had some bad experiences with measuring and cutting over the years so feel your pain. It’s great when you see something coming together though. Good to see you at GETS on Sunday, although we didn’t get to chat. It was so busy. Look forward to seeing more progress soon. Roy.

You completed much more then i expected. Good job. With this success you can relax a bit. You can't make mistakes if you don't try. You should have quite a bit of confidence after the lot of work. Keep on keeping on. Good luck.

WELL that's a good start, the open framework will improve the look, and give plenty of extra skills to add to your bow. Just a bit at a time and you'll be there OK. Well Done

Brilliant progress Paul, I made so many mistakes building my baseboards (it was my first go) but I made it work in the end , lot’s of head scratching! The way you’re going Julian isn’t going to have much to do, lol!
Looking forward to saying hello at GETS, cheers for now, John

Can't wait for GETS. I am still unconvinced about being able to reach in the far corner!

Great to see Sandling Junction retaking shape.
Hope you enjoy GETS, and get some time to look round all the layouts etc inbetween all those shoulder taps you'll be getting. Sadly I can't be there.

That's a good looking frame so far. I strongly recommend being willing to massage the plan by small amounts as things are being made -- particularly when working with angles like that it's easy to find that if you cut something exactly as it says on the diagram and it doesn't fit.
It may not even be your fault -- we all draw our plans with walls being straight and perpendicular, but many aren't like that. I've seen plenty of "straight" walls be less than straight, "right angle" corners be not quite, and so on. And that's when you can't see the problems coming a mile off -- one of the layouts I work on is on an area with an 80mm discrepancy in floor height across the layout area. That one was obvious enough to cause us to survey it, and we've built the discrepancy into the layout legs.
And I'm sure the moment there's a horizontal surface, the cat will be on it. We think we're building model railways for us, but what you're actually building is a large and complicated cat-tree :)

I can understand your pain at the angles conspiring against you.
Its either going to be your 2x1s are a slightly different thickness to Julian's drawing or some other positioning or measuring change, during assembly.
But its looking good so far.

Hi looking good, it helps to visualise Julian’s excellent plans now I’ve seen the space/room .
It’s given a kick up the “bottom” to get on with mine . Although I really have only the time in the winter as I’m a landscape gardener.
I’m investing in a heater for my out building as last year Was freezing .
Keep up the good work and hope you and Julian have a great show and can’t wait to see both of your up dates . Cheers Glen

Enjoy GETS! Still haven't made my mind up on whether I'm going. I'd love to but these things aren't always possible...

465 stands....that would most definitely have been dangerous, fortunately only 45 trade stands and 30 layouts 😊

Looking great Paul very imprest with your joinery skills those joints look very neat as you say you can now already see the size of the layout it's not a small one. Looking forward to seeing the progress.
I definitely get the impression you have missed this hobby.

Always exciting when you get the tools out and start cutting and screwing wood! Out of interest, what/where are you using for what look like adjustable feet to the legs? Hope I can make GETs on the Sunday and catch up with Julian and yourself. Bit of fixture congestion with my grandson’s first birthday…

I think it’s more of excepting the layout rather than disliking it kitties have a more overt way of expressing dislike
