My shop is an 8ft wide x 40ft long rail car cargo container. I cut windows and a door in it. I insulated it with 1" foam sheeting and furred it with flat 2x4s and lined the walls with pallet boards. I have a table saw, band saw, router table, lathe, and a mortiser. It's pretty narrow. I put everything on rolling bases and shift stuff around during use. The back half has my work bench and all my hand tools. I use my table saw a lot but mainly I use hand tools. The height is 9 ft so I compensate by storing stuff on shelves up above me. I've built lots of furniture and cabinets in that little tiny space. I can work in the heat of summer with just a small fan and during a cold winter with a small space heater.

Hey thanks for featuring my shop! Wish I put more effort into cleaning and setting up my shots!
You mentioned that festool systainer and mentioned that even though I have a lot of budget tools, you can’t find alternatives for some things! That’s why I ended up getting a sawstop, a drum sander, and the infamous domino! Just can’t do some things cheaply.

I work in a professional cabinet shop and believe me it gets messy. We do take time to clean but getting into every nook and cranny is hard, not to mention the sanding dust from the day to day work. Keep on with what you are doing. If you aren't making a mess you aren't woodworking. I like to think that a clean shop is a happy shop. Having said that saw dust and wood chips are gonna a way to accumulate no matter how much you clean

@@jessevardaman6208 I really appreciate hearing that! It can be discouraging how dirty it gets despite my efforts. That said, I did record this video right after some lathe work, so it was a particularly bad time! Haha

Great ideas! I have a 20’ X 24’ garage. When I first began setting up my Garage/Shop/Multipurpose room. My wife said, it has to be neat and no clutter. That was easy I’m neat and tidy. I wish I could included pics because I get a lot of comments and compliments from friends and neighbors. I had the floor epoxy coated. I have the full complement of the usual tools, portable table saw, drill press, belt sander, spindle sander, bandsaw and of course 10” miter saw. And we just had Christmas dinner in the garage.

Kris: epoxy pour the floor. Expensive option but very effective, gives you a flat smooth surface... after you spend some quality time with a wire brush in your grinder going over every centimetre of the floor :) The concrete needs to be solid underneath it, though.

The idea of a full length drawer to keep cut-off scraps is a much better looking, and more functional, method over my Rubbermaid container system! I know it's all relative, but until I moved, I had a 9' x 6' shed, barely 50 sq ft of space. And no, it wasn't sufficient, my bandsaw and drillpress barely fit.

I always love shop tours. I currently have an amazingly large shop. Probably about 1200 sq feet. I struggle with using the space wisely though. So shop tours are great to watch to get an idea of better flow for my shop. I do also restore furniture. So I have about a 10x10 space with a removable paint booth/finishing room in it. It's spring loaded telescoping poles that hold plastic to the ceiling that creates a wall. I think it could be a great solution for someone who shares a shop with a car (disgraceful... LOL... JK). It would work great to keep dust out of the rest of the garage.

Love shop videos especially small shops. Here is my tip on setting up a small shop: SKIP the miter saw station. It takes up too valuable space and makes way too much dust. My first shop was a 2 car garage and I had a miter saw station on one wall, but now I am in a 1 car garage and I decided I rather have more work surfaces than a miter saw station. As a compromise I built an fixed miter saw station outside behind the garage (miter saw is covered with a "weather tight" box).

Small? Those are huge! The space I have for woodworking/tool & timber storage is 4ft x 8ft with no windows and a door in the long side that opens into the space. Works for me though as I pretty much only do woodwork as a means to turn good timber into sawdust/shavings/firewood 🤣I am however currently looking at setting up a spare bedroom into a bookbinding/art studio and am always looking for inspiration on tool/material storage and woodwork shop tours are a fantastic source for that so YES PLEASE to more of them.

Id love if you made this a regular series. I’ve got a small shop stuffed with some big tools, but it’s functional. It’s had many iterations but finally pretty well set up. I think I may just submit a video to be in the running.

Love the shop tours. It helps to inspire me to work with what I have….ok to dream bug as well.
