      Hey, I might be too young, but I'll be your dad right now. I am very proud of the person you've become. I don't say it often or even show it; I tend to be in my own head. But when I'm with my friends or colleagues, I overwhelm them with what you're doing in life, goals, or something funny you told me. Don't ever change, because you are what the world needs. Love, Deddy.

      There are a number of things you can use, cans of compressed air is a short term cheap option, getting a PC vacuum/electric blower is a good long term option since it is reusable or just use a shop air compressor.
      Getting some brushes can help with caked on dust, but the best option is to clean more often and prevent it from getting that bad in the first place.

    I've found horse hair brushes work the best for being safe to use on computer parts/systems. If you can't get them or don't want to use animal hair you can spray an anti static spray on the brush. This also works with the attachments on a vacuum/shop vac. I live in the North East static is an issue during the winter even with a humidifier.

      @TheGameBench ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cheap and really effective for loose surface dust, but sometimes you need something a little more invasive. I've cleaned a lot of computers, and a soft bristled toothbrush is fine, and sometime necessary. Not all dust is created equal and the makeup brushes are often not enough to get it off. Especially if you're cleaning around anything where a thermal pad was used. And really, If a toothbrush or that detailing brush he used was enough to knock the component off... it's wasn't really on to begin with.

    • @Interknetz
      @Interknetz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheGameBench True but I feel like a soft brush like makeup brushes get more of the area much easier than stiffer ones. Some dust can need a little more effort for sure. I suppose in a way using a makeup brush is sort of an OCD thing?
      For anyone curious the one my sister gave me is some cheap one "Vander", they're purple. No idea what specific one out of the set it is, but it's "medium" I suppose. For how often I've needed to use it, it's lasted for a long time.

    • @KunoMochi
      @KunoMochi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, detailing brushes aren't really very stiff, but they are usually used in conjunction with some kind of lubricant to prevent scratching car paint. But I do agree, make up brushes are far softer and safer on glossy and transparent surfaces.
      One thing I also do is put on a coat of ceramic wax on transparent surfaces. This helps make them easier to clean in the future and helps keep them looking nicer for longer.

    Jay, good segment on cleaning a PC. Most folks are completely oblivious to the gunk & crap that accumulates into their PC over time, and when the cat hair blanket covers the PC's air inlets and all of the internal components to the point of causing a serious thermal failure? "Wahhhh.... wahhhhh... my PC is a piece of junk....".
    I use similar cleaning techniques for cleaning PCs, except as far as using a blower, I lean towards more of an 'industrial' approach. I put the PC on my picnic table (outside) with the sides off, and use my Echo electric leaf blower at a light to moderate speed, coming no closer than a foot away from the components. Some of the family's and donated PCs (I rebuild PCs gratis for non-profit use) can generate an absolute tornado of dust, hair 'n dirt 8 to 10 feet high, so I've learned to wear safety glasses & a mask. Afterwards, some careful detailing of the fans, mobo, etc. with an 8" horsehair brush, one more quick followup with the leaf blower, and that can handle most cleaning for dirty PCs.

But ICUE is the only software that can read the coolant temp from their aio so i can't base any of my fans off of the coolant temp which wouldnt be a problem if my cpu wasnt a 7950x that is thermal limited. So my fans were always running at max cause the cpu was always at max. So i had to use a special adapter to route the lconnect hub into the commander core so it could control the fans. You cant just plug it into the commader core because the commander core doesnt recognize it so you have to use a splitter so you can trick into thinking it is.

      Use this argument. Mom, how much of today's world runs on computers? Dont you think that it's important for me to be able to learn how they work at my own pace, so I can excel at them? Well, I really want a computer, even if I do game on it, I am learning skills that will help me for the foreseeable future. If it has a problem, I will learn how to fix it, by doing it, I will learn how to research the issues and in turn, how to troubleshoot problems when they arrise in the future. I will meet people and network, I will learn what the capabilities of a computer are and how they might benefit me and how I might use them to make a career in the future. Now is the time in my life, where quite frankly, if I dont get into computers, I will be left behind and as a result, will be behind my peers in any career I choose, because they will quite simply be better on computers than I am. Even if it's simply learning to type fast, think fast, react fast and strategize in a game, those are real world skills that are essential to anyone who wants to have a successful career in the modern world in any career. Whether you buy me 1, or I buy myself 1, is irrelevant, I need 1. And if I cant get 1, then consider my career path chosen as a plumber, because that's about as far as I'll get in life without knowing how to use a computer. I have an interest in them, I want to learn about them, I want to use them so I can get better at using them. You've lived throughout the past 20 years, you've seen first hand how computers have changed every single occupation out there, do you think it's reached a standstill? Even web developers, who everyone thought were going to have work for the rest of their lives, because everyone needs a website, are becoming jobless now, because someone thought a step further and made simple tools that allowed people to make their own websites without coding. If I only get into computers when I go to college, that's what I'll be. Someone stuck in their ways and incapable of adapting to the ever changing environment and be left at age 40, jobless, because my career got made obsolete and I dont have the skills to adapt. While im young and not working, I have time to learn, so let me learn. If you're worried about my school grades, trust me, whether I have a pc or not, it wont change anything, because what matters is whether I have an interest in it or not. I can learn to use computers, even game half my day away and my grades will stay exactly where they are. But the difference is, I would have more tools at my disposal and I can broaden my studies to computers too and in doing so, other things might just make more sense. How does a transistor work for instance? Computers run off of them, they work with electricity, but how does it turn power into 1's and 0's and then in turn into letters, words and programs? If I dont have a computer to fiddle around on, those types of questions wont ever cross my mind and I wont ever get the idea to research it and study up on it, while the next guy over will. And the day we both apply for a job or to college, he'll get it, not me, because he knows more than me and he's capable of more than me. I might have alot of potential, but if I cant practice it to learn more while I'm young, it'll go to waste and I'll end up working dead-end jobs that have terrible pay. Things arent going to get easier, infact they're constantly getting tougher. It's tougher to make ends meet, it's tougher to get a job, it's tougher to keep a job. You need to be better, smarter, more skilled and more capable than ever before and at the core of it, is the PC. I can game on a console, but I cant learn how to use microsoft office, or try out unreal engine and learn about game development, or visual studios and learn about programming, or even just google something. Even if I spend all my time watching YT, 1 in every 10 videos I watch will spark an interest and I might google something from it and read up on it, then google some more and some more, before you know it, I've discovered an entirely new field to me and I can see if it interests me. I cant do that after I've gone to college, because it'd mean I chose the wrong career path and I cant keep studying new things in new fields, that arent related to my career, else I'd be right back where I started, just with a little more security for WHEN I lose my job, instead of being prepared and pick a job that wont be irrelevant after 5 years and know where to expand my knowledge to make sure that whatever I end up choosing, I'm either specialized enough, or broad-spectrum enough, that regardless of what happens, I have a backup plan for my career. I dont want to end up like all those people who studied accounting on pen and paper, then worked as an accountant on pen and paper, unwilling to switch over to computers and end up needing to find a completely new career, just because I dont know how to use a computer the way I need to in order to do accounting on it, instead of pen and paper. The computer was the technological leap your generation went through, I dont know what's my generation's yet, but in order to be prepared for it, I need to be at the forefront of it, so I can see the end of the road before I go off the cliff and so I can see the new opportunities before it's too late. Like can you imagine if you had known just how successful Google was gunna be back in the day and just invested 100 dollars into it? That 100 dollars would be worth 7500 dollars now. If you had a little more knowledge back then than you did, you would have invested 100 dollars, if you had alot more, you would have invested as much as you could at the time and probably be able to buy a house just off of the profits from that. Well same goes for computer companies. In the past 5 years, AMD went from 12 dollars up to 160 dollars. If I had gotten into computers earlier, I would have been able to tell you that when it was about to happen. A computer really is THAT important to me and I would very much like to get 1. So can we please get me a computer?
      If that doesnt work, you're SOL
