Poor 970 and the rest of the parts as well. I am going to guess the owner didn't build this. Very nice build yet completely left to dust. Good vid though, I enjoy these. I occasionally buy rigs locally, take the parts I need and flip the rest, I actually enjoy the restro work and cleaning, it's kind of like putting a puzzle together, relaxing and rewarding and someone gets to save money, a machine gets a new life.
I have the exact same case... Having 2 dogs, and the tower being on the floor, yes they do get dirty, but that was EXTREME. I will clean mine every 3-6 months or so with a compressor and soft brushes. When it's time to rebuild (and that time is coming soon), I'll gut it and re-use the case. Lots of room and lots of air flow. Great vid!

Should be oiled periodically (say every few years). It's usually not at all difficult to do, and it'll make most fans, even cheapo ones, last practically forever. Synthetic engine oil is OK.
I have this case as well and I still use those "giant fans" they do a good job and are dead silent. The only thing I changed in my case was removing all the bottom drive bays to get air flowing somewhat better to the mobo and getting a dust filter kit because this case has holes everywhere and it's super easy for dust to get inside.
I still use this case, great case for it's age. Originally there is also a 3rd 230mm exhaust fan where the AIO rad is mounted. Mine is set up very similarly, just with newer hardware.
For a PSU, you can put a pen to block the fan from moving, then use a hair dryer at maximum in it's cold setting to blow air through the fan opening, removing any dust accumulated on the PSU without damaging its components.

Just here to say it can't be blood, as blood only lights up under UV light after being sprayed with luminol... So had to be anything else, but it could also be something that aren't bodily fluids.
I had this exact case for god knows how long it finally got retired when I saw a video of the meshify c and fell in love I do miss that huge tower sometimes but the hellfire it was to keep clean makes me happy to have a modern case
This is not dust from just "sitting around not being used". This is from someone that just didn't care. Ugh... I can already imaging how dirty the house must have been.
Sometimes these videos are frustrating to watch. I've been saving up for a gaming pc for a long time now and every time I think about how some of these people just don't care about what they have it drives me crazy. That pc could have gone to someone who really wanted it, but instead it sat for years collecting dust and not being maintained...
@@violette2139 some people have their own issues on why they leave their pc behind sometimes we want to catch up on it but we have no choice, sometimes there’s days where we wanna give up on everything not just our pc but everything going on in our life we don’t know what happened with this person or why they left it behind but it doubt they just out of nowhere stopped without reason
I built my PC back in about 2017 and have an Asus board. I learned to bypass that "Chassis Intrude" error in the bios but up until now I thought I just made a mistake in my build and was always cautious to ever take it apart to clean due to seeing that error. Youre the first person on the internet to tell me its a common error with Asus boards and now my mind is at peace haha
Man this is just weird, I have never been suggested videos on cleaning PCs and I just cleaned mine for the first time in years yesterday. I got a customer filter kit for my pc which I recommend. Even after a couple years, while the filters were all caked, the inside of my pc only required a very light dusting in some areas. My case is the Corsair 740 and the kit for it was $70, but totally worth it imo.
A lot of people have already asked this with previous builds. I'll have a dedicated one-off video that people can refer to in the future so that they don't always ask in these. Running thermals in every video would become repetitive and boring after a while :-)
@@GregSalazar I don't quite see how showing a graph for 10 - 15 seconds near the end of the video with a one to two sentence summary of thermal findings would become repetitive and boring. It would take almost no extra effort and allow people to see the potential gains they can make by cleaning their grimy systems.
@@GregSalazar Don't want to steal Gamer's Nexus' thunder... talking about charts. Lol. Jk. I watch another channel, Major Hardware, he literally talks about thermals, sure it's after testing user designed fans, but it's still thermals... People wouldn't ask to see them if they didn't want to see them. Yes it's a little extra work for you but it will add the cherry on top of what you are doing. Anyhow I still enjoy your content.
@@justinreynolds6318 I love how you're assume it "would take almost no extra effort." It most certainly does. After over a dozen hours of deep cleaning, I'd need permission to access the owner's computer, install software, run tests before AND after, and compile the data into charts. Not gonna happen. As stated, ONE video will be uploaded soon answering this question. Will become very redundant when all builds drop 2-4 degrees every single time. That said, if ya think it's so easy, you're more than welcome to swing by and take care of it all for me ;-)
@@innocentiuslacrim2290 No, there isn't an AiO fan made to be washable by water :) It might be bad for the bearings inside of the fan. Since in the bearings there usually is a lubricant and water + lubricant is not a good choice (yes, most of the lubricants are water resistant, but still you could wash some of the lubricant out of the bearing). I wouldn't recommend anyone doing what Greg did in the video.
What about static for the PC components? I saw you working around a carpet and shoving the end of the vacuum in the motherboard. My biggest fear is zapping my components.
As someone who has this exact case, I dream of it being as clean as you were able to get it. The Coolmaster HAF 932 what a case to have I had this case till last year. The HAF being very open Grill/Holes/Vents is a dust magnet an requires cleaning and dusting out quite regularly. Very nice series of videos regarding cleaning issues... A lot of people use to keep their machines on the floor... this is a big mistake... those machines are perfect vacuum cleaners...

its nice seeing an older high end pc come back to life amazing video
15:10 Yep that's usually what happens to me when I clean a PC. I kill it. That's why I don't clean them anymore lol, by the time the dust chokes them out they are outdated anyway so just build a new one.
I could never clean a computer like this inside my home 😬 damn good job
It will only get more dirty in your place!
@@googlegmail4636 For sure. I blow mine out with an electric duster every 3 months and brush off my fans in between that. If I don't itll surely build up I've got a cat and a kid
Me: “Man! You should take that thing out back and hose it off!”
You: actually does
very satisfying content
such a memorable video. These old cool master cases had no dust proof with fans directly pull air from the side panel.
That blue and black motherboard is awesome looking. Love these older builds.
Greg: “it’s probably bodily fluids”
Given it’s something made by cooler master, I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and think of it as blood
I was with you until I saw dust and crap caked Thumbscrews....Someone clearly in a highly excitable state - mid fap - when their machine died... That was just straight up foul! Even people with Kleenex on the desk were like "EEEEEEwwwwww"
Just here to say it can't be blood, as blood only lights up under UV light after being sprayed with luminol...
So had to be anything else, but it could also be something that aren't bodily fluids.
I have Cooler Master case and I have experience with some blood lose on it. Razor sharp edges on some parts.
watercannons collaboration: 'I use mums hose'
Greg: “it’s probably bodily fluids”
watercannons collaboration: 'is it clean?'
@@xbeowulf3894 Bauer, Dish Washer!
Imagine Greg in a full hazmat suit cleaning one of those ancient room sized computers from back when computers were first invented.
Love the Breaking Benjamin art. ❤
I had this exact case for god knows how long it finally got retired when I saw a video of the meshify c and fell in love I do miss that huge tower sometimes but the hellfire it was to keep clean makes me happy to have a modern case
insane to build such a beast of a PC and then let it get that dirty... in any case that was the most satisfying cleaning video I've ever seen
Fastest transition from season 1 to 2 I've seen since the Harley Quinn show
This is not dust from just "sitting around not being used". This is from someone that just didn't care. Ugh... I can already imaging how dirty the house must have been.
I think the same thing
OMG IT'S HAPPENING!!!.... i mean, nice vid bro
Greg's grass when they see him carrying a case to the patio - "LUNCH!"
yayyyy here we gooooo
Would be interesting to see what the thermals were before you did the cleaning
A lot of people have already asked this with previous builds. I'll have a dedicated one-off video that people can refer to in the future so that they don't always ask in these. Running thermals in every video would become repetitive and boring after a while :-)
@@GregSalazar I don't quite see how showing a graph for 10 - 15 seconds near the end of the video with a one to two sentence summary of thermal findings would become repetitive and boring. It would take almost no extra effort and allow people to see the potential gains they can make by cleaning their grimy systems.
@@GregSalazar
Don't want to steal Gamer's Nexus' thunder... talking about charts. Lol.
I too would love to see thermals. It's adds extra satisfaction and enjoyment seeing how a clogged up PC performs before and after.
That said, if ya think it's so easy, you're more than welcome to swing by and take care of it all for me ;-)
I have that case and I have never let it get that dirty. Sad.
wait I didn't know you can wash the fans with tap water :O
He only washed those AIO fans like that. Maybe they were somehow different: Google time?
@@innocentiuslacrim2290 No, there isn't an AiO fan made to be washable by water :) It might be bad for the bearings inside of the fan. Since in the bearings there usually is a lubricant and water + lubricant is not a good choice (yes, most of the lubricants are water resistant, but still you could wash some of the lubricant out of the bearing). I wouldn't recommend anyone doing what Greg did in the video.
What about static for the PC components? I saw you working around a carpet and shoving the end of the vacuum in the motherboard. My biggest fear is zapping my components.
Just imagine what the home owner is breathing in if that pc is that dirty. Change the furnace filters please.
As someone who has this exact case, I dream of it being as clean as you were able to get it. Maybe when I finally troubleshoot my mobo only reading the RAM in single channel issue I will just take the time to take everything out and deep clean this thoroughly. As a newer viewer, I've loved the videos and the different series' on the channel. Cheers.
I remember having one of these Haf X cases. Changed the 23cm fans in front and back to red led as well. I thought it looked pretty good at the time 🙂
Any one else really enjoy how neat and just pretty the MB was after it was cleaned up?
Just put everything in the dishwasher and let it dry for a week
Never clicked so fast in my life
why you do that?
The Coolmaster HAF 932 what a case to have I had this case till last year.
The HAF being very open Grill/Holes/Vents is a dust magnet an requires cleaning and dusting out quite regularly.
This Coolmaster case is great for airflow as it is so open to allow the air to flow threw nice an cleanly it really is a good case.
Great video Greg It was like walking down memory lane with what I had to do an when you said about the CPU warming to quickly I already knew the problem before you even said it 😂
Fair play Greg that was an epic deep clean an very enjoyable to watch an bought back allot of old memories for me well entertaining good job.
I have had this same case for the last 10 years and on its 3rd build in it. It’s been a great case and might become the one I build for my son next.
Wow, stumbled on this video and I thought you were going to use canned air but you deep cleaned that bad boy. Nice work, looks great!
Thanks 👍
Such cozy videos, I love them man. Please make more.
Very nice series of videos regarding cleaning issues... A lot of people use to keep their machines on the floor... this is a big mistake... those machines are perfect vacuum cleaners...
Well done. A proper cleaning/tuneup ia labor intensive and this was a trainwreck.
I still have nightmares of doing deep cleans of the Cooler Master HAF. Excellent case but be prepared for an 8+ hour work day!! X_X
2022 and I still use this case! Just removed hdd bays ages ago because of best airflow!
The best case ever!
watching this video deletes my stress.. thank you
Watching the motherboard get cleaned is so satisfying
IMHPO the plugged radiator on the cooler was probably the reason for the heat. no air flow means no heat exchange, so no coolage.... thanx for the video. 2 full days. holy cow.
This was so satisfing to watch you clean this dust machine! I loed it! Don't you want to move from Florida to Germany and clean my systems from now on? xD
Best Case Ever. Ive had mine for 11 years now and will probably never change it. Kind of funny that someone get a high airflow case and lets it get clogged up with dust.
