  • I recently discovered the Lenovo Legion Go and fell in love with its form factor. Not as small as other handhelds like the MSI Claw or the ROG Ally, and more powerful than the Steam Deck... so I bought it! Will I regret this purchase?

NO you didn't waste your money, you'd be surprised at the Legion Go's capabilities, but first you MUST make sure to make some important changes to your bios settings before you get into load heavy titles, to do so first press your power button when the device is off, then hold volume up, then choose bios settings, now that you're in the bios set up screen at bottom right of screen choose more settings then choose configuration, then change UMA frame buffer size to 8G, make sure maximum memory data clock speed is set to 7500 MT/S then make sure you have enabled SMT mode (multithreading mode) and lastly set you core number to 8, games will run way better because out of the box it is not set this way and you do not get its full capabilities until you make the necessary settings changes.

Steam Deck single handedly got me to play on a "Gaming Console" for my first time since the Super Nintendo, AND, got me to ditch windows entirely and switch to Linux. I still do a TON of gaming on my (now Linux) desktop, but I use my Steam Deck a lot for more casual feeling games also.

I had Legion Go since it launched in 2023. I chose this one, because it also works as a Windows/Android (Bluestacks) tablet, laptop and desktop PC.

All these people who're sporting non Legos have no idea of the advantages of 2 type c usb's! I connect my power to the bottom using a side profile type c cable (L shape) and if you tilt using the built-in stand it gives enough clearance. I see no reason to have a dock and if I want to go full on desktop then I picked up a baseus hub with a u shape adapter that just snakes down the back side so you don't even see the cables! How's that for cable management!

I use power on top USB, but i also have a USB-C Dock with keyboard, mouse etc. and a HDMI cable so i can connect Legion Go to TV or Monitor.
People say Steam Deck, Ally can also be used for desktop, but those handheld's don't support 2560 x 1600 or even close. 800p for desktop is not a good thing.

They talk about modding the chassis, magnetic, etc! Dude, Velcro stickers is like 3-18 bucks a roll! Absolutely does not fall off. So velcro my ssd, my hub, external battery! No TH-cam video about doing it, lol! I do this with my laptop and my Metaquest 3! Best part is velcro stickons doesn't scratch! And you can peel them of If you move them around! And doesn't void the warranty! Got a 3 year warranty on mine. Was like $56.00 bucks. And it's local drop-off! Have a 4 year on my Legion laptop!

    • @V3ntilator
      @V3ntilator หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Longjumping-War2484 Google "Samsung T7 Shield SSD". Then you can see why the rubber bands will sit in place, unlike on the older T7 where the SSD would slide off the stand.
I will swap to Velcro as it's better in the long run, thank you. They sell those here as i just checked. I prefer this external solution too so i don't need to mod anything.
There is people who have swapped out the internal SSD, but some SSD's caused problems.
An external USB-C SSD won't cause any problem at all, and will cause 0% extra heat on Go as it's on the kickstand. ;)

I converted my LegionGo to a SteamDeck by wiping out windows and installing Bazzite, which is basically SteamOS. It's a much better handheld. Windows really hamstrings this handheld.
I agree with the comments that giving this a 1600p/144Hz screen was pointless. Very few games even at their lowest settings will be able to use resolution. It would have been much smarter to with a 1440 x 900 or even 1680 x 1050. 800p still looks acceptable on this screen.
The problem with these handhelds is that people expect too much out of them. If you hate 30 fps gaming like me, then handhelds aren't for you.

Handhelds should limit their screens under 7" & 1080p resolution. Simply they don’t have capability to run games at native 1600p. Lowering the screen size & resolution will save money, battery & increase performance & portability ❤

Counter argument : Handhelds should keep their high resolution and when users want to play game they can lower it manually. This way when you want to watch media on your handheld you have a nice high-resolution screen.

I would say 2/3 of my gaming now is on the deck because as much as I love gaming on PC, I love being able to sit in bed while my wife reads and play for 30 min before bed, and between work and having a family I was only able to play on weekends the last few years. Yea it’s a bit limiting on what you can play but to play some MCC or doom or other Coop/single player games. I did get it to run helldivers2, barely, but I’m not great on controller so it’s rough haha

I've had my Legion Go for 2 months now. it's awesome for playing games like Ori, Broforce, Assassin's Creed China/India/Russia.
It is also utterly amazing for using Steam Remote Play from your main rig.
Lenovo keeps improving it with updates and gaming aside, it is also an unbelievably good Windows tablet.
Both those USB C ports are USB4, and i believe they dont share resources, so you should be able to plug all sorts of cool stuff into it.
My only gripes with it are battery life and Windows being Windows, but i knew that going in.
Wish it came with Windows 11 pro, and it uses 2242 ssds instead of 2230, but you can easily buy an adapter or print one if your into 3d printing. There are also already loads of 3d printable accessories, including parts to like the controllers together

I can play FFXIV ( mostly) and ESO , Skyrim etc. It nice having a capable gaming system without hauling around a heavy Gaming laptop. It only needs 30w of power at most and i use a 10' USB C cable with a 60w portable charger. Its been a game changer for me. I had about 4 hours of downtime at a location before i was needed. I plugged my Ally into my 760wh Bluetti power packs 100w USB C outlet, tethered to my 5g hotspot and played FFXIV and ran dungeons and levelled my sorcerer sitting in the middle of basically nowhere in a Toyota Tacoma. It was great :)

Even in power saving mode, the battery only lasts a few hours. But games like Hades run great in power saving mode at 1080p. I grew up with the Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance SP, and Nintendo DSi, but I don't know if I really want a portable PC. I got my gaming laptop like a year before the Steam Deck came out for about the same price (because it was used).
For the most part I feel like I prefer having a laptop instead due to the extra screen real estate because I end up using it for watching stuff on TH-cam and my Plex server more than I use it for gaming. And I'll use it for watching stuff in bed or in the basement in addition to while travelling.
I only travel like a couple times a year at most for a vacation in the summer time and going to my aunt and uncle's house for Thanksgiving, plus every once in a while my sister needs me to wait at her house for the cable or HVAC guy.

There's many ways to safely get way more power from the legion go itself without an e-gpu. In the bios you can turn the igpu from 3gb to 8gb and its been running flawless.
Can also turn your power usage up to the full 65 watts instead of 30, without flashing the bios there's easy to use 3rd party software for experimental use.
With a simple PD dock its quite the versatile gaming PC.
As someone who lives off grid & uses the Go for demanding tasks, its incredibly efficient and quite unbelievable how it competes with more expensive power hogging desktops & laptops.

I have a Steam Deck (more of a Linux person) and while I'd like something a bit smaller, for handheld gaming, I actually think the Legion Go's tablet just by itself would be really useful for me. I'd never use it actually handheld (it's far too large) but as a LAN party machine with a small keyboard and mouse, that kickstand makes all the difference, and it's much more portable than a laptop.
