I'd like to point out that people have said that in the DS version you can see a Hyena-like thing stalking you in Alaska, which lends credit to the theory that the supernatural IS involved, also the Dad and Kaftar have a scar over the same eye but the Kraftar in the beginning didn't. Like seriously, the wolves have GLOWING RED EYES and Saruman's finest birds for air recon, there's super soldier baboons, I find it completely believable and fitting that the final boss is your dad who is a shapeshifting predator and who may have killed your brother through his minions. It fits perfectly in this utter deranged setting of Cabela's making. Oh, and we may be %hunter (the Bungie Madness persists in us, now.) going off another commenter's theory on that video, which would also fit perfectly enough.
And in the cave near the end I believe you can find a red whistle which belongs to Samson showing that he blew the whistle and got Adrian killed. He also ended up killing the campers because he thought they were poachers. After the cave in you don’t hear from Samson either but he is warning Cole to be ready to fight the Kaftar(Samson)
If you playback the fight with the hyena-demon-thing at quarter speed and pay close attention when it lunges, you can see that one of its eyes is blank white. Specifically the left one. The same side as the dad's blind eye.
What do ya mean? I stumbled across abandoned military bases where they experimented on animals all the time when my dad and grandpa took us hunting all the time with our uncles and cousins when i was growing up. You mean that it's not normal?
This was my personal favourite of the Cabela's I've seen. Making a hunting game a horror title was a wild choice, and he's not hyping up what happens in this game at all. I think he might have forgotten to include a lore detail as well that the Kaftar has to die from fire, which is why your bullets don't work on it and you have to trap it in the burning building. I'm pretty sure that's in the game at least.
So timeline wise, the Kaftar came before the Black Lion Emperor and controlled animals in both Alaska and Africa. And... apparently the dad *is* the Kaftar. So anyways, with the death of the Kaftar, the Ancient Ones/Black Lions come out of hiding and the Emperor fills in the power vacuum.
Fun fact: MC’s brother has the same voice actor as the wolf-head wearing Vulpes Inculta from Fallout: New Vegas. He also got killed by wolves. Coincidence?
If you’re wondering why he ate the heart raw, it’s a real tradition among hunters all across the world. By ingesting the heart, it is thought that the hunter assimilates the animal's strength, courage, and vitality, forging a spiritual connection with the species and expressing gratitude for the sacrifice made. In some cultures, the ritual serves as a rite of passage or initiation into adulthood.
If the theories are to be believed, the heart ritual in this game is probably the kaftar demon securing a new vessel when the dad vessel eventually dies.
We came to a conclusion in the comments that around half the animals in the game are "good guys" including the bear, that try to stop the end of the world by killing the demon and those who have its blood. That it is likely that both dads are actually the same since he can shapeshift. The Red eyed wolves and ravens in this game are demon controlled, while the mountain lions and bear fight against it and try to kill both sons, while the demon wants one to die so the other could awaken his demonic powers in the sacrifice of the other. The animals at the beggining like the hyppo, snakes and crocs and especially the rhino that attack the boat and you are the same, they feel the demonic presence and try to stop you in an attempt to stop the demon, while after the fire and night level the remaining animals are the demons minions or afflicted by evil, thats why they are fearless and stay in the area even after the fire. And in the end the 2011 MC actually becomes the Black Lion Emperor from the second game and the MC of the second game doesnt awaken to evil because both Luke and him chose to save the other, the sacrifice never happened. Thats kida all i remember atm, there were a lot more, but go to the comment section there for that.
Some of the things i remembered is that the Dads have the same VA and being an outdoorsman/park ranger in Alaska would in fact allow one to have a double or triple life, 2011 MC sounds like a monster when hes low hp so it probably means that when you get "killed" by the animals you transform into the demon and that the regular "good" ones would probably just finish you off during it.
12:58 Head-shots are also highly discouraged IRL because you can easily miss slightly and end up wounding the animal in a way that causes un-necessary and prolonged suffering. EX: Accidentally only hitting a deer's jaw, which can take days to die from and leaves them without the ability do eat or drink. (they can die from starvation before blood-loss or an infection kills them in some of these cases.) That's why you only really go for lung and heart shots. They usually down the animal instantly, if not, they end up bleeding out very quickly.
Saw that mentioned in the comments of Mandy's video. I kinda like the fact that we don't see it though, but on closer observation you can tell it's him.
Correction, Samson isn't seen transforming, it's a black man transforming. Presumably, this is the original Kaftar in that case, since it's in flashback
31:43 The fucking "Tracking" from the AC130 of COD4 is so funny. 54:00 this art is a references to SPEC OPS The Line i cant explain without spolers. But even without that the fact that pose is applicable in the context of a hunting game is testament to the caliber of game this is.
37:47 a comment on the original video makes a Marathon connection here, because even in this you are %hero also, another comment mentioned how based on how long the hunting dad's family has been here, they were in Alaska back when it was still Russian
13:40 sad part is I actually know some hunters that follow that tradition. First animal you kill you eat the heart of. Most are at least sensible and cook it first but I know of a few that eat it raw right after the kill😅😅😅 51:00 if I remember correctly you can find a whistle in the cave implying that your father was controlling the animals to try and kill you. I also remember something about in one version of the game you can see the Kaftar in Alaska. You can see an animal shapeshifter into the form of the man either in the artwork between chapters or in the background of the lvl. But I honestly don’t know how true that is. Some version of the game the kaftar is missing a eye as well
If the Kaftar spreads through bites like the comment at the end suggests, could Cole become the next one? The Kaftar bites his foot during its grab attack at 54:56. Maybe this is why the burning planks cover both Samson and Cole in the photo after beating the Kaftar but not the younger brother. Maybe I’m thinking about this too deeply idk
How delectably fitting to play Cultist Simulator music while definitely not supernaturally touched dad explains the importance of their family's hunter's rite of passage in the beginning. Not foreboding at all.
(Gets into a stampede chase where yours allowed to gun down as many animals as you'd like) (Can't shoot the poachers) Cabela's what are you trying to say....?
The crazy thing is there's actually a lot of legit esoteric lore in this game. Samson clearly fits the Odin archetype, One-Eyed old warrior wizard who dwells in the wilderness (the literal meaning of wizard is "one who has the attribute of wisdom", in the same sense that drunkard means "one who has the attribute of drunkeness"). Odin was heavily associated with the Wolf Cult of mad warriors, called Ulfhednir or Berserkers, who would wear nothing but wolf or bear skins and charge into battle with mad animalistic fury. This tradition is the root of werewolf legends. Odin was also of course heavily associated with ravens, as his messengers and spies. Odin is also one of the leaders of the Wild Hunt, a host of the dead that rides across the land terrorizing the living. This wolf cult has older origins among the Germanic peoples ancestors, the Indo-Europeans, who conquered all of Europe and much of Asia during the Bronze Age. These people were horse and cow herding steppe nomads. As part of their male coming of age ritual boys were sent to join the Koryos (warband), separated from the tribe they would "become like wolves", living by hunting and raiding enemy tribes. In parts of the world that the Indo-Europeans settled where big cats were still extant you found warriors in this tradition donning lion skins, such as Hercules, the nude warrior clothed only in the fur of the Nemean Lion. In Anglo-Saxon lore Wodin (Odin) has twin sons, Henghist and Horsa, who fit into a broader Indo-European twin brother archetype also seen in Romulus and Remus, Cain and Abel, etc. The original names have been reconstructed as Manu (Man), and Yemo (Sacrifice). While they sometimes rule together as equals, reflecting a likely Bronze Age Dual Kingship tradition that was slowly phased out, in most cases the brothers relationship ends in deadly conflict. Theres also a lot of Saturnian symbolism. Saturn aka Kronos, lord of time and King of the Titans, father to Jupiter/Zeus, who rises against his father for his pedophagy/filicide, slays him and takes his place. Even the "his spirit lives on in you" bit makes sense because the Indo-Europeans fully believed in reincarnation. The myth of the Kaftar comes from India, one of many regions conquered by the Indo-Europeans, and the source of one of our oldest written texts from them, the Rig Vedas. The name itself was the Persian word for Hyenas, Persian being an Indo-European language.
You jumped on this one quick! lol I just watched the original video and was wondering when you were gonna do a reaction. Your Mandalore reactions are some of my favorite videos you guys do. Thanks!
Watching Mandalore's Cabela videos just makes me want a Resident Evil style Cabela's game where you hunt demon animals and cryptids along with mutated animals from abandoned military projects. With modern controls and gameplay, it would be amazing.
I think there is an actual game that does that! But its more demon/evil spirit annihilation while you yourself have a contract with a demon as a roguelite. It's called Hellsign, you do get to introduce demons and spirits to M60 rounds, but that comes later when you grind up enough. I haven't played it but it does sounds good.
I only played the 2009 Cabela's Hunt i think.... watching the 2011 and 2013 versions... they love the dramatic backstory where your dad dies in front of you, because that happened in 2009 too
Just when I thought the lore couldn't get any crazier! 😅 Also, these theories make sense. This is possibly the only universe where I agree on the war against the animal kingdom! XD

Watching Mandy's old live stream of the game, you get the feeling that Cole's father Samson is an a-hole. He can't let any threat to his authority slide and never admits when he's wrong. Cole saves his life and he immediately turns around and berates him for how he "left the animal alive". He blames Adrian for causing the avalanche, even though he's the one who ran up and grabbed his rifle, causing him to pull the trigger by accident.
Cabela's genuinely missed out on so much money by not making a completely supernatural hunting game. They clearly had what it takes to make a Van Helsing simulator.
I wish they would come out with another one of these games but make it just as serious. Also, you should check out Mandaloregaming's "Kingdom Underfire: The Crusaders" video. I think you'll enjoy it. Imo it has a really cool concept but has some strange design choices. Especially with the "Patriarch". You'll understand what i mean by that.

I noticed it during editing. I wonder if Mandalore had used his hunter vision on the hyena what he would've seen.
Also the bear In 2013 has the same damaged left eye, and it’s face is damaged by something (maybe the fire at the end of 2011?)
