    Just a complete and utter controlled pandemonium of progressive genius....love the fact that Sai-chan wrote the lyrics for this one, will be on their upcoming EP "Unleash". Will be interesting to see if she takes more writing duties in the new songs too🖤💙

    "They Band-Maided the sh** outta it". Oh man, that's tee shirt material right there! 😄"Band-Maided" as defined by my dictionary: "Unexpected yet somehow familiar while exceedingly awesome, inspiring and just phuchun cool." Thanks Ronin! 🕊

    You have an interesting observation about musical tics or habits or whatever. I think every musician starts by imitating their idols, but at some point you want to develop your own style and personality. One of the benefits of a good teacher is they will encourage their students to broaden their perspective and not get too focused on just one aspect of playing.
    I think Kanami's playing has a number of characteristic styles, like playing melodies in octaves, tremolo picking, slides, pick scrapes, or tapping on chord shapes. She's not afraid of her Morley Bad Horsie. Her solos are sometimes pentatonic, sometimes they use other scales (and she'll switch in the middle of a solo). She does string-skipping quite a bit: Some players think her solos are easy because they aren't as blazing fast a some others, but they are quite hard to play because they don't use adjacent strings. Lately her tone has been very brilliant and treble, but in the past it has been much chunkier and a bit more mid-range (and it changes from song to song). It's hard to identify a characteristic Kanami "sound" because it keeps changing. It's why everyone gets so exited for new music ...it will be something completely new, surprising, and awesome.
    I could write about MISA and Akane but I think they are quite similar; that is, they have some go-to strategies but they have so many that it's hard to identify them all. Akane changes between 16s and 12s and 8s and 6s but she is so smooth it sometimes just glides by until you listen closely. MISA likes to play a phrase down low and then echo it an octave or two higher, and she uses the higher octaves to play little connecting phrases. She and Akane sometimes use a "disco" beat, like MISA will play eighths A a' B b' C# c#' while Akane plays off-beats on the hi-hat, like during the pre-chorus of "Play" (to give it a bouncy feeling) and only for a couple of bars before they're off doing something else. I have noticed that second verses often have Akane using toms while MISA echos the rhythm in a development of the bass line from the first verse, but that's not a hard and fast rule or anything. To paraphrase Ryan Mear from a few weeks ago, if you think it sounds normal just listen more closely.

      Thats a pretty good assessment of all their playing styles. I can understand everyone's excitement when looking forward to what they come up with next. There must be a decent amount of pressure on Kanami when writing new albums or figuring out a new direction. But, something tells me she likes that too.

      @@RoninMann I vaguely remember Kanami once said in an interview that the record company asked her to submit new songs or riffs on a weekly basis, she has to work very hard to push herself to be more creative and productive. Also during their recent live stream Kanami said Saiki is the one who picked the songs for the new EP and they will try something new (as expected).

    This is my current favorite Band Maid song. To me it showcases everything great about the band. It has amazing composition, progressive guitar riffs, beautiful vocals, 🦍🔥, MISA MISA MISA, change up in the second verse, an incredible bridge with a mind-bending solo, and a great intro/outro.
    Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it. But where does it place in your overall top Band Maid songs?

      This was a little tough. I think for me its Corallium>Sense>Hibana. There are a few things in Sense I like more than Corallium, but I think overall Corallium is a more complete package.

      Corallium is somewhat different. It also has the almost folk/middle eastern/persian sounding element and drum fills that are also adopted in Sayonakidori.
      Actually my initial favorite was Hibana as well but changed after so many listens.

    A few words about Nightwish (Floor Jansen) and more.
    Alan Dean Foster, the famous American fantasy and science fiction writer who applied his writing talent to such hits as Star Wars and Star Trek, maintains a music section on his blog.
    "There are many good singers, fewer great singers, and a very small number who are unique singers. Diana is a natural dramatic contralto. This is the lowest range for a female singer. She is also polyphonic. Roughly, this means that when she sings she often sounds like more than one person singing at once. As you can imagine, the combination is extraordinary. So too is her full range.
    Singers at age 14 can do things that astonish us. Witness the careers of Jordan and the Dutch prodigy Amira Willighagen. But even when included in this company there is something special about Diana. I love the performances of the two singers I just mentioned, but they are (perfectly) controlled and measured. Diana is more akin to a force of nature. One of the most common descriptions of her performances is “shamanistic.” Some of this has to do with the remarkable timbre of her voice, some with the sheer intensity of her performing. In this she is closer to Floor Jansen. With both women you can see as well as hear the intensity, the emotion, contained with both the lyrics and the music. A duet between the two would be something magical."
    I would also like to draw your attention to this young vocalist Diana Ankudinova.

    • @monolit73
      @monolit73 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Alan Foster writes further::
      "Her first two-minute performance on the show (all the initial performances are brief) is of a very dark version of Elvis Presley’s “Can’tHelp Falling in Love.” I’m not sure what you anticipate hearing, but I guarantee it won’t be anything like what you expect. The show’s production values are also outstanding.
      Two things I noticed immediately when comparing this performance to Diana’s previous ones: first, her control shows the results of ayear’s worth of professional voice training, and second, as she matures her power is becoming fully unleashed. When someone says she blows you away, it carries a literal meaning. "
      Alan's full article on Diana is posted in my Community section.
