They get us on a rant, and we just ramble on trying to explain to people how great they are while trying to make sense of what is happening musically... not many bands can do that to me anymore! These girls are a gift to music man!

To make a great song doesn't mean having to play a million notes. To make a great song you just have to play the right notes & B-M play them perfectly every time :)

You have to be a musician to fully appreciate Band-Maid music. They raised the bar of musicianship and creativity to such heights, so it seems unreal. It's on the Mozart + Paganini level. Bands like Band-Maid appear only once in a generation. But considering their unassuming characters, dedication to excellence and total absence of ego problems, such band never happened before.

Not necessarily I'm not a musician but I know what skill, talent and dedication they have creating the music they play to give us a sound that is a pleasure to listen to and truly appreciate what they do.

When I tried to introduce B-M to my friends, I got 2 different outcomes: non-musicians usually return random subjective feedback "I like it" or "I don't like it" without any specific reasoning; musicians always express genuine interest and desire to hear more with the following feedback: "Holly f*ck! Why I never heard them before?" or "Meh... they're too " if their ego got butthurt by some petite Japanese girls.

@@kaib9705 I also get the same answers as you when showing others for the first time. I usually use onset audio only so they just hear the instruments. Taking away the vocals the outfits where they are from and what sex they are. I don't even tell them there name. The response is very interesting.

I love the vocal harmonies on this live version of different... especially on the "... more". Seems Miku has worked on developing the power in her voice. I think it should also be recognised that it must have been very very difficult for them to stay professional throughout (this online, no audience) concert. It's one thing to do one or two songs in an isolated environment like that, but a whole 2 hour plus concert!? Especially for a band that absolutely feeds off their audience! Utmost respect from me for that.

A wise goddess once said " don't think, feel". I think that as a non-musician (but i have had piano and school band) that sometimes the first time listening to some Band-Maid songs is a musical assault on my brain, it takes more than once to begin to understand what's going on, but over time my brain gets re-wired so that I can really hear what's happening.

I'd bought and binged all their albums, then Different came out...it was like all the back-catalogue played at once!! Second and third listen was like a mist had cleared :-) Now...I find I can focus on individual parts (Maids) and follow simply...and so hectic tracks on UW and now Sense etc...I get into them instantly and loving the quality and complexity. Who knows what they will do next (well...maybe tour).

There is one word that comes to mind in regards to Band-Maid and that word is RESPECT! Regardless if you dig them or if it Is not your style or taste, there is one constant RESPECT! This is the kind of band that musicians gravitate to and dig primarily due to their first-hand awareness of certain intricacies that are present within their music that can be lost to the general listener. That is not to say the general listener cannot appreciate the music as a musician does.
Nonetheless, many musicians have gravitated towards Band-Maid due to their flawless display of musicianship along with their songwriting abilities. Few bands can command the respect of fellow musicians. One such band is Rush. Rush and Band-Maid have that in common. They both have rare ability to craft their music in a complex and unconventional manner, yet presented in a familiar catchy memorable way. They both have earned the respect of non-musicians and fellow musicians.
Regardless of style or taste in music, or if you are a musician or non-musician one cannot deny that this band has earned that respect! The time has come for this band to be exposed and promoted upon the world stage. I'm confident that at the very least they will gain RESPECT! RESPECT from both non-musician and musicians alike.

For me, the term "musician's musician" usually means the music which normal people don't really enjoy. It's something quite boring, but filled with technicalities which hook a professional musician. BAND-MAID is definitely not like this. They are very listener-friendly. Yes, they do a lot of technical stuff, and there are so many layers in their songs. But their main goal was always to make a catchy music, not to make complicated music. The fact that "catchy" comes out so complicated, is a testimony to their greatness. Or, maybe, I should put it another way: they make it so complicated, but they never fall short of staying catchy.

@@VladimirChupin Hey, Vlad. What I was trying to say was that, imo, musicians (like me and Ryan, for example) admire the Maids because we (musicians) can relate to their skill level that a casual listener may not understand and/or appreciate as much simply because they don't play or have performed on stage. I believe that musicians who have had a chance to hear and see them (like David Grohl or Jim Page) have a great respect for them and feel they are not only great writers and instrumentalists, but are cutting edge in the prog rock genre. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

@@TomClark-Futoura In this sense, yes, I agree. Sorry for the misunderstanding, previously I've heard this term rather in a negative sense. Like, there are many amazing virtuozzo musicians, but they can't come up with a true hit, and therefore, they stay in their own professional circle more or less, just adoring each other. Like an elitist club, basically. Jazz is very much like this. There are amazing musicians there, but the music is often so awkward that only a small circle of nerds enjoy it.
Like, I enjoy a few things from Senri Kawaguchi, she's a mind-blowing drummer, but there are very few performances of hers that I listen to. Mostly, it's absolutely indigestible stuff.

So, they spoke a lot about jazz composition, they were playing to me their favourite stuff, took me to the concerts, etc. So, I'm listening to such music still, although not often. But for a normal person, that's complete chaos. There are lovers of this style, of course, but it's an elitist club indeed.
What jazz people do, they play a melody for a few seconds, and then they start off into crazy improvisations. The crazier the better. It's a bit over the top for normal listeners.
Actually, prog rock was, I would say, an attempt to make jazz more digestible. If you take the bands like King Crimson, Van der Graaf Generator, Gong, or Yes, they definitely have jazz roots, but they try to keep it more organized. Jazz which you have referred to, even the fusion style, is way too disjointed and crazy.
The thing with Senri which I would say is relatively OK for a normal listener is this one: Senri Kawaguchi: STRATUS - Rocking the Castle in France th-cam.com/video/bfD92Y9O3xc/w-d-xo.html
Or maybe I've heard it too many times, and got used to it? The initial drum solo is already sufficient to scare normal people away. But then the band comes in, and it becomes a quite mild rock piece. Well, "mild" if not for crazy Senri's drumming 😂 What she's doing there, is not possible for humans to accomplish. She must be a terminator sent to us from the future...

These ladies are the future, and I couldn't be happier for it. They're simply better than us western metalhead dudes, who are - for better or worse - mostly self-taught and full of ourselves, and these Japanese ladies are showing us how it's done and I couldn't be happier. I have to see them live before I die, I've never been so in love with a band.

Great musicians and the singer doesn't scream she sings. They make other bands in this gnre sound like amateurs. You are right the bass and drummer are fantastic as they all are. Effortless is the word.

Props for having the balls showing off yourself trying to figure this stuff out, it's really cool.
As a very very novice musician when I really listen to these songs the more I "hear" (as in actually hear as individual parts that create the whole) the more my mind is blown, HOW do they play that so damn cleanly live??? They're insanely skilled it's so impressive.

The fact they throw in English lyrics ups the difficulty level too. If you replaced one line of "Happy Birthday" with Japanese, I would be screwed. A couple of official videos you haven't reacted to: "Don't let me down" and "Gion-cho"

You got the new Cobain sig!? You probably have 11's on that thing coz the scale length is too short for 9's or even 10's. BTW, Miku is playing "over chords" e.g. F#/D to G over the bridge in Dice. Rhythm guitar on this song is deceptively tricky actually, a staple of Kanami's writing. I mean go try playing Shake That or Puzzle (which Miku carried live btw)- sounds simple but you gotta be able to swing that thing. The timing trips me up every time.

Yea, Miku was screwing up. That's why Kanami was looking at her. If you watch the very beginning Saiki has a look on her face like, "what the hell?" Miku would recover in the chorus though. It's funny how the band laughs at everyone else when they screw up, but when it's Miku, they try to get her back on track. Very supportive. Love this band!
