    A comparison of Band-Maid and Iron Maiden, it's like this content is individually tailored to me. Genuinely that was fascinating.
    I love the time you put into these. Some people say Maiden don't need three guitarists, but it turns out they need seven!

      I'm not an Iron Maiden afficiando, but seeing how Jack implemented all that multi guitar harmonizing was interesting

      I knew it had to me more than just me in that particular Venn diagram, haha! Awesome, glad you enjoyed it. The more guitars the merrier as far as I'm concerned!!

    To the tongue twister/finger fiddler bit, I've noticed the same and I think it is an integral part of Kanami's playing...
    Kanami started playing guitar in her teens, but started playing piano at age three. I think she thinks about music as a pianist first and guitarist second, and that probably will never change, since piano is so ingrained in her.
    She's said in interviews she composes on a DAW and that she has to "learn" her parts after she writes them, so she's either inputting these riffs with a keyboard or drag/dropping them with a mouse. She's inevitably going to come up with very different things than if any of us guitar nativists sit with a guitar and try to come up with licks. Plus, piano players (and classical players in general) tend to approach a piece of music trying to nail a certain sound, not necessarily what feels most comfortable under the fingers. Some of the hardest passages to learn on classical guitar aren't the fast ones, but they're the strangely fiddly ones where a seemingly simple passage leaves your fingers in knots, and the best players make it sound like a smooth melody instead of a "riff". You see it in her arranging, too... the two guitar parts for Puzzle always sound to me like a left and right hand on a piano.
    Further evidence of this mindset is how in interviews she sometimes cites Carlos Santana as an influence because she loves his use of pentatonics... and this is something she figured out several years into Band Maid's existence. Well, normal guitar players get a guitar for Christmas and learn a pentatonic scale by Valentine's Day! That is because we are looking for the "boxes" to be able to solo quickly, not for the harmonic merits of a five note scale. For this to be novel to her can only mean (as far as I can tell) that she just doesn't approach guitar like the rest of us.

    "Screaming" is the B-side of the "Start Over" single. "Start Over" distressed some fans because it is a poppier song with Kanami playing jazz piano and for sure indicated a turn away from hard rock. Of course, it ends with an f-bomb and "Screaming" is on the other side. The _actual_ turn was when they disbanded and formed Band-Maiko.

    Thanks Jack, great vid as usual! Also i think that's a new record, almost 20 min spent on just the first few seconds of the song LMAO. And when you said why you think Saiki put her hand on her ear, it makes total sense, cause she does it A LOT in concerts. I always thought she was just readjusting her inner ear monitor, but your explanation is much more logical, i never thought about that!
    Also friendly reminder to check out their song H-G-K one of these days :p or even Balance from their last EP cause, i'll say it, i think it's their most underrated song! I don't know why so many people dislike it! But anyway, great job again, appreciate the effort put into the "what if" segments.

      Gonna be a tough record to beat... oddly enough I think I might manage!
      Could be to poke it back in place as well? Cheers dude, think that's on the list, but will pop it in just to make sure! Cheers dude, the lead harmony part was the one that did me in, decided to be all fancy and make the III chord major, that was a nightmare to play!

      @Davey-Boyd 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Saiki doesn't have in-ear monitors like the rest of the band. She said she doesn't get on with them. She has over-ear monitors which are more loose and more prone to move around.

    One of my favorite intro riffs. Really interesting compare and contrasts with metal bands of the past. I do wonder how much groups like Iron Maiden were influences?. But they do have quite the knack for taking the sounds of yesteryear and making it their own while sounding fresh even after multiple listens. I heard one musician say that he has never seen a band use slides as much as BM. So it has been announced that BM will do collabs with overseas artists this next year. Maybe will get Iron BandMaid after all???

    • @JbfMusicGuitar
      @JbfMusicGuitar  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      An indirect influence at best I'd wager? Kanami and Misa are quite prone to sliding around the fretboard! That would be very cool to hear, however unlikely it may be 🤣

    Thanks for the amazing tutorial, Jack! You outdid yourself with that Roy Thomas Baker 7-guitar production. I could watch that little segment all day. Regarding Queen, your guitar Part 6 reminded me of the final minute of "Teo Torriate". But, even more so Gordon's "Kemuri". Hahaha. I got more to say, so I'll hit you up on Patreon.

      Haha, cheers! Yeah, had a listen to Teo Torriatte that layering guitar upon guitar thing is the same sound, some sort of cool fade in/reverse effect in that outro as well, very cool.

    Ref Iron Maiden heard or read an interview with Bruce and Nikko talking about the recording of somewhere in time or Seventh sun where they mentioned the guitarists and Steve locking themselves away with their new toys (Harmonizers, Octave and delay pedals). Bruce and Nikko just became pool and sword fighting experts during that time. Adrian Smith said him and Dave had to become programming experts due to the midi commands needed.

    Thank you very much Jack. That was a fantastic and interesting deep dive. It’s like a free lesson in music theory and history, very well explained … and your comparison with Iron Maiden doesn’t bother me at all 😊 and we learn once more as I knew already Kanami seldom uses the simple lazy version for a lick and that’s one thing among many others that makes her sound unmistakable and unique. Keep on rocking 🤘

    Regarding Saiki and adjusting her ear monitors. All the band use in-ear monitors except Saiki who uses over-ear monitors. She said she doesn't like the in-ear versions. Someone else commented that the over-ear monitors tend to move more when you are being energetic on stage, so I always thought she was just adjusting the position of them. She does it really often in fact. You might be right though.

    • @JbfMusicGuitar
      @JbfMusicGuitar  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That makes a tonne of sense as well! There was a Billy Corgan interview I watched where he talked about not liking in ears (might have been headphones in general?) when tracking vocals, found it harder to get the right pitch. Him and his producer also found out his voice sounds best when it's 6 cents out or something weird like that

    2:14 - The tuning intermission. Now there's a tune I haven't heard in many decades but which is clearly imprinted on my 60's and 70's childhood memories - the theme tune to Animal Magic! Now stuck in my head!

      It's one of those tunes that sometimes pops in to my head if I've got a small wait for something. Apparently the way to get rid of an earworm is to just listen to the song, because your brain is trying to finish it, so when you do it can chill out
