I first saw this performance when my father was in the hospital. He had his days numbered, couldn’t move or talk. All he could do was blink and the whole year our family was struggling. Then my roommate bought me ticket to this show suggesting I get some fresh air. So I sat alone in a theatre packed with excited people, wondering what the hell I am doing here. Soon this song came through the auditorium and I teared up right away because it was so so beautiful and my father would never see anything this beautiful again. That was 2 years ago and my dad passed away on Christmas eve of 2019, but this song reminds me how I wished I could share more good things with him.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I think I've got sth in my eye ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ. My condolences to you and your family, hopefully things can lighten up in the future 🤍
I am a Musician/Producer, released over 15 Albums and worked with many wonderful artists, but never ever in my life have i heard a voice that touched me more than Thandazile Soni's in her role as Rafiki. Every single time she came on stage, tears of joy ran down my cheeks (not exaggerating)... She is that good. In my humble opinion she is the greatest singer that i have ever experienced. I am in awe and thankful, that i had the chance to listen to something so wonderful. Thank you Thandazile Soni.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the lighting in this scene? At the start, it shifts from blue to red/orange, night to day, and this represents the birth of Simba, as he is supposed to be the light that shines through darkness in the play. At the end, the lighting shifts the opposite way, day to night, foreshadowing the darkness that is to come later in the play. It's so expertly crafted, every shift in lighting, choreography, voice or anything else represents something and I love it.
The fact those 2 singers on the side sang that loud without a microphone in a huge theater is very impressive. And also you can hear the lead singer panting while the side singers sang. Absolute perfection
Sorry to ruin the magic but they are wearing mics. It's a discreet device mounted at the hairline in the middle of their forehead and mostly concealed by costume.
What makes this show so brilliant is the attention to every little detail. Can you imagine the creativity that went into just this opening scene? People depicting animals while walking across stage on stilts and singing. The stage, the sets, the flawless ness of everything. It’s not my all-time favorite show, but it is one of them, and it is by far best choreographed and creative.
I have never been touched by any song like this in my whole life I'm Black and I'm so proud tears of joy I'm 82 years old and I feel my motherland in Africa thank you for this song it makes me so happy I will always be proud to be black and from the motherland thank you for posting this beautiful song

Not lately, many of its animals are endangered or severely endangered. Rhinos, elephants, giraffes; if something isn’t done to protect it the lion is set to be extinct by 2050. Bit hard to have The Lion King with no lions
I've had the pleasure of seeing this twice live and have watched this clip several times. Just breathtaking in the beauty and detail. Powerful, graceful, and every movement breathing life into the characters. Gives me chills every time.

She’s a professional musical actress (Sophie Sheridan, Eliza Doolittle, Glinda, etc.) and I find it beautiful when people like her don’t even look at the technical aspects of a performance anymore but are moved and paralysed by it. To me that shows how amazing this particular performance is.
If you look at the foreheads you can see they have microphones on which would have been for the theatre itself. They possibly just forgot to mix it in with the broadcast/cams - still very powerful voices!
Yeah they have mics but when you're there it honestly sounds like they're not even being amplified and it really makes it feel like you're apart of the actual scene. I encourage any fan if they can to at least experience the show once.
I saw this back in October for the first time in a literal decade. I cannot express enough how much I CRIED when I saw it again! Gosh this is such a BEAUTIFUL SONG🩷
I took my Jamie to see this at the Pantages theater when he was around 7. He was mesmerized. Jamie died while in service in the us Navy. But he has a younger brother named Jacen. If this company tours again, I will take his younger brother. After all, it's the circle of life.

My mum got to see this production in London thanks to my brother. She still talks about it. AMAZING are her words. Thank you to all involved - you made a lovely lady very happy. ❤
The staging is so mind-blowing that they made us forget that we were attending Musical award Gala ... They transported the universe of Lion King into the room. Amazing 👍🤓
when I first watched this live, the chills would not go away. The whole time their voices captivated me, as well as the performance and the visual. I love everything about this
The greatest live broadway production ever!!!! The costumes, scene design, Africa!❤️❤️❤️❤️🥺🥺🥺🥺, the talent, I wasn’t surprised but yes, changed my entire existence & to see representation on a grand stage. Just beautiful! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤✨✨✨✨✨✨
This reminds me of what it felt the first time I heard this song watching the lion king. Call me dramatic, but this song is the best anthem out there of an individual belonging to something that’s a lot bigger than just themselves. It’s indescribable!
If you only get to see 1 play in your life, see this one . It’s been 21 years since I did. I will never forget it. We had standing room only tickets for $20. Dollars. I am now 70 and I would stand for it again! I had no idea the animals came down the aisles. My husband told me to turn around. The lights were down.I turned and the elephant behind me threw up his trunk. I sobbed. I hope to someday see it again. My son is a Broadway producer now with a show on Broadway called A Strange Loop . Just maybe I will . I will gladly stand xo
I wish everyone had the chance to witness this opening live in the theater. Julie Taymor’s genius created the most uplifting and emotional time I ever spent in the theater.
Alpär Javanshir you should look up the meaning of the words. Surprisingly, they are not nonsense words, which is what made them being used to compose this song even more interesting and difficult.
When I first watched this in Manchester I was quite overcome with emotion and it looks like I wasn’t alone. To see what people are capable of producing on stage, so well presented and with beautiful music made me think how lucky I was to be there. It’ll stay with me for a long time 👌
This musical Broadway show is ASTONISHING! The African culture brought out through music, song and dance is amazing, and I feel immersed in their beautiful culture. Such a well casted show ❤️
Saw the play last night in New Orleans, and this opening was so beautiful, so emotionally evocative that it had me in tears. I'm not a big Disney lover, nor that big on this movie, in particular, but this play was amazing.
Luceafarul From an African to a I-don't-know-what-your-nationality is, if there is any shithole, it's the '1st world' nations that refuse to help the most culturally diverse continent on this planet.
Nothing is more powerful either in a song or speech than the authenticity of the singers or speaker. When something is authentic you just know the person believes what they are communicating. That's the real powerful of these two incredibly gifted singers and actors.
I grew up with the lion king. It has always been my favourite movie and I remember the first time I saw this musical in London. I honestly loved it and as I was so young I forgot half of it. But I saw it 1 year ago and it brought tears to my eyes. The songs, amazing scenery and costumes. The way they make it feel like your actual there and not sat in a seat in a dark theatre in the middle of a freezing cold London. What they have produced both the film and the musical is truly beautiful. I am very excited for the upcoming live action film in June 2019. I shall never stop loving the Lion King and I'm sure a lot of people would agree,
It is truly amazing both as a dvd and a stage show .. i saw it couple year ago when it came Brisbane Australia i saw it twice i loved it some much .. have u seen Aladdin stage show it amazingly incredible .. i hope they reck them both with the live action films
Same here ! I grew up with The Lion King ! But I have never seen the musical. I Only seen the movies when I was little. I watched the live action movie of the Lion King and I was crying 5 times. I was so happy to see my childhood Disney movie in live action !
This was by far the best musical I've ever seen and the best theather/concert experience I've ever had and probably will have, it was THAT good. Wish I could see it one more time in person :(
Only the first 10 seconds blew my absolute soul away. I mean. WOW!!! Goosebumps everywhere. My childhood, everything were brought back in just the first few seconds. THANK YOU !!
I honestly thought I wouldn't tear up watching this after I finally saw it on stage, but nope! I tear up even harder now! I wear the hoodie I bought at the show every single day just cause it makes me so happy
My family and I saw this show on Saturday in Richmond, VA with the OG Broadway crew. And I'll tell ya, 5 minutes into this show and we are BAWLING. It was so beautiful to see LIVE.
Life is truly miraculous. Isn’t it amazing how people of Africa despite the water and food scarcity, despite scorching heat don’t lose their positivity, staying vibrant and full of energy.
Do you really think the entirety of Africa is just the desert? Africa is full of rich beautiful countries and cities and to assume every single african lives in a desert and has no food or water is pretty racist. You seem to be a grown adult, it's surprising you don't know this.
I’m from South Africa and had the privilege to go and watch the show when it showed in LA they got every detail correct even the sunrise, the music was brilliant and I will never looked at the movie in the same way. There voices was amazing to hear it and no use of microphones.
This song breaks my heart everytime i hear it, nature is so wonderful and we treat it so bad, the animals are endangered... I hope things will change for good! ♥️🙏🏿🙏🏼
This song made me realise that everday is a celebration and every sun rise is a new begining.

what does the choreography represent, if i can know u seem passionate
at this.
i dont think it turns into night, but its the orange morning light that turns into blue sky
Good interpretation, but it’s most probably just done to show the day’s natural course.

This touches me everytime! I saw this on Broadway as a teenager and cried in awe and shock and beauty. Still amazing and lovely to me. 💐💞
Me too!
Amaziinnggh..
i saw lion king on broadway a view years ago.. Are they the same person? ❤❤❤
Beautiful words
Well...I did not cry in awe and shock and beauty.
@@ndhan72 lol. OK, u don't have to!
My mum got to see this production in London thanks to my brother. She still talks about it. AMAZING are her words. Thank you to all involved - you made a lovely lady very happy. ❤
This. This is why art exists.Everything about this is BEAUTIFUL.
Omg who designed these costumes this is so perfect
Gotta say. Why the FUCK did we get a "live action" lion king instead of them just filming this? So much better
Facts tho the live action wasn’t that good the Broadway seems amazing
If you ever get to see the Broadway show it’s amazing.
Disney should pay you to make decisions
That "new" movie sucks bro 😂
Because this weird and is nightmare fuel, maybe?
The staging is so mind-blowing that they made us forget that we were attending Musical award Gala ... They transported the universe of Lion King into the room.
Amazing 👍🤓
Was blessed to have seen this play twice in the early 2000’s and the opening song and performance still wows me! All the Actors are astonishing!!!!!
2000s, not 2000's. Thousands, not thousand's. Hundreds, not hundred's.
I loved this show when I watched it, best musical I’ve ever seen. The puppeteering is just incredible and awesome
Hey
@@tianamarieschaefer8013 hi
when I first watched this live, the chills would not go away.
I just saw this in Miami and it made me cry just from the intro song. It was worth every dime. Took me back to my childhood.
This reminds me of what it felt the first time I heard this song watching the lion king. Call me dramatic, but this song is the best anthem out there of an individual belonging to something that’s a lot bigger than just themselves. It’s indescribable!
Who is the lead singer? She fits the part so well. Great voice 😩😍
Bye Lover Gugwana Dlamini is her name
She is my muzik techar
@@esmeekanters9365 WHAAAA?!?
Yes its true she is realy lovely
Esmee Kanters je bedoelt zeker music teacher 👩🏼🏫
If you only get to see 1 play in your life, see this one . It’s been 21 years since I did. I will never forget it. We had standing room only tickets for $20. Dollars. I am now 70 and I would stand for it again! I had no idea the animals came down the aisles. My husband told me to turn around. The lights were down.I turned and the elephant behind me threw up his trunk. I sobbed. I hope to someday see it again. My son is a Broadway producer now with a show on Broadway called A Strange Loop . Just maybe I will . I will gladly stand xo

I was audience today!!!!
Everything was perfect, touched my heart.
The best Art in my 24 years life.
Louis_leeze wow
I was so blessed to see this live a few years ago. I cried. Lion king has been a staple of my childhood
I was so blessed to witness this engaging performance in person on my birthday. Definitely going again when they come back!
I wish everyone had the chance to witness this opening live in the theater. Julie Taymor’s genius created the most uplifting and emotional time I ever spent in the theater.
It doesn’t matter what language, I cry every time I hear this song. It’s so beautiful and powerful.
Hola.. No sé mucho inglés.. Crees q igual lo puedo disfrutar?

Somehow i think that it's just nonsense words😂😂😂😂
Alpär Javanshir you should look up the meaning of the words. Surprisingly, they are not nonsense words, which is what made them being used to compose this song even more interesting and difficult.
@@naimshakir3569 okay :) i sure will :)
i saw this live about 5 years ago and honestly, especially when it comes to the visuals, probably the best musical i've ever seen
Still amazing in another language
Zich indfc
Katelyn Benson yeah
Hi
emotions aren't need a language..
❤❤❤
I went to see this last night as a birthday gift at Sunderland Empire! It was the experience of a lifetime. I’ll never forget it, absolutely stunning
It took me few second to realize she was singing in another language and not English. I love it in any language.Beautiful!
Es Afrikaans..es nie 'South African' nie
When I first watched this in Manchester I was quite overcome with emotion and it looks like I wasn’t alone. To see what people are capable of producing on stage, so well presented and with beautiful music made me think how lucky I was to be there. It’ll stay with me for a long time 👌
These damn artistic uncontrollable goosebumps force me to upvote.
What a great intro!
Try being there
A theatrical feast for the senses. Pure magic and beauty. I never tire of this opening scene. It transports me a place of bliss!
LION KING IS A MASTERPIECE MADE FROM HEAVEN.
The lead singer: *sounds beautifully*
Vs me trying to sing like her
Me: *sounds like a dying goat*
My goat will probably die when I sing. :P
Same here!
MissPrettyPrincess
sounds when i singging like frogie called raining.🤔🤣😂
🤣🤣🤣
MissPrettyPrincess this made me laugh
This musical Broadway show is ASTONISHING! The African culture brought out through music, song and dance is amazing, and I feel immersed in their beautiful culture. Such a well casted show ❤️
This typical one right here isn't even a Broadway show. This one was preformed at Scheveningen in the Netherlands
Saw the play last night in New Orleans, and this opening was so beautiful, so emotionally evocative that it had me in tears. I'm not a big Disney lover, nor that big on this movie, in particular, but this play was amazing.
I watched this on Broadway with my mom a few years ago. Still remember it. The only Broadway I’ve ever been to and I don’t regret it!
I was in the audience for this. It was crazy good. The animals completely amazed me!!
That's it I'm moving to africa
Swifty Parakeet me to
Which country in Africa?
Swifty Parakeet it’s actually sort of a shit hole, don’t say I didn’t warn ya
dexmond817 go look at human development index.
I was so happy to see my childhood Disney movie in live action !
th-cam.com/video/5Z8S7g-q81Y/w-d-xo.html I grew up with this movie too. My favorite one and this is the Scene. Try the cover. You may like it!
So emotional.. Everytime I'm watching this my eyes almost make a tears.. This is so good.. I really like it
The Lion king live is the best live show I’ve ever seen! Breathtaking x
This show was by far the best thing Iv ever seen. Over 10 years ago I saw this and I still tear up thinking about how I felt watching it ❤️
My family and I saw this show on Saturday in Richmond, VA with the OG Broadway crew.
That's a bad take, and this is in the fucking Netherlands.
Such a beautiful production. The music is out of this world. I love everything about The Lion King!
1:12 the dancer's moves entering the stage on left are so graceful and smooth 😯 the body control is insane!
And every single move with a purpose that adds to their character.
@@JasonBrabander Exactly!! It's incredible! 🤩
I’m from South Africa and had the privilege to go and watch the show when it showed in LA they got every detail correct even the sunrise, the music was brilliant and I will never looked at the movie in the same way. There voices was amazing to hear it and no use of microphones.
I saw it once when I was 12 and it is still one of the best moment in my life. I can’t forget it.
This song breaks my heart everytime i hear it, nature is so wonderful and we treat it so bad, the animals are endangered... I hope things will change for good! ♥️🙏🏿🙏🏼
still brings tears to my eyes. Most beautiful, powerful, moving voices
This show was so beautiful in so many ways. I cried too many times. I could feel every song and the emotion behind it.
