    They are now 72 tooth and the claimed accuracy went from 2.5% to 4%.

      Great videos and testing methods! I appreciate the amount of work that goes into each one!
      Any plans on ordering and testing a set of the 72 tooth Tektons? I'm curious to see if a randomly purchased set will produce good results vs a set that may have been specially calibrated for you so that it looks good on TH-cam. I'm not saying they did that, I'm just curious is all. I'd really like to purchase a set of the Tektons but am not sure it's worth the risk of inaccuracy. Do you have any thoughts on this.
      Being in Canada, my options are limited; to these or the Precision Instruments with my budget.

    FYI...Tekton has done a redesign, or selected a different Taiwanese manufacturer for their SB torque wrench. You compared Tekton, unfavourably, against Icon in another video...the new Tekton head design looks identical to the Icon, and is very likely being produced by the same group, and presumably to the same level of accuracy and precision. I guess it just comes down to price, and who you expect to be around in the long run to replace it should it fail.

    From working in a warehouse for a long time, I bet the ones you bought originally were calibrated by a trainee or new employee. Just speculation but fallacies are not impossible especially for someone who is new to the machines. That being said fallacies should be caught by an instructor before they get to the customer. Stuff does get through though and they made it right.

    Tekton doesn't claim ±2.5%. Where did you get that from? They claim ±4%. Snap-On, Precision Instruments, etc. split beams are all ±4% I think.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They used to be 2.5% and it was listed on the site at 2.5%, that's intersting they changed it to 4%.. My first set Tekton recalled back because it was greater than 2.5%.
      So it looks like they determined 2.5 was not achievable across the board, now its the industry standard of 4%.

      @@Tools-Tested Wondering if you're still planning to do this?
      I need a new set of torque wrenches, my cheapo ones I bought at the beginning of my apprenticeship are toast. Leaning Split Beam for the adjustability (I'm sick of winding Micrometer style) and being the ability to store them at any setting. Digital is even better at both of those aspects but I absolutely want something with a flex head and that excludes most of the "value" (ie not SnapOn) digital options.
      For SB I'm leaning hard towards Tekton. The 10 degree flex and 32 tooth ratchet on the PI's, or the 15 degree flex and 36 tooth ratchet on the SO just isn't enough. I borrowed a coworkers SO (probably PI made it's a bit older) the other day and couldn't get the swing I needed on an awkward bolt. Had to mess around and file down a 12pt socket because a 6pt didn't have the spin.
      Icon isn't really an option for me in Canada, it's a 4 hour round trip to HF (plus crossing the border twice is a hassle) so their warranty/exchange isn't worth much to me. Tekton have warrantied one socket for me and it was so painless.
