I actually have pipewire installed. I always use pipewire. The problem was that it's just a black box. There's nothing there when you select it.

@@ImZipux I believe its portals that actually make screensharing usable. I've found that at the moment, for discord, using vesktop is the best way to get a usable screenshare on wayland. (im running hyprland and absolutely love it)

Hey, thanks for recommending Vesktop. I will take a look into it for sure. If nothing else, I'm definitely interested in its audio sharing capabilities. I mean qpwgraph is really great for my setup, but this looks nice and in a way that I don't have to configure it going into my mic input. Now if only I could figure out OBS screensharing. I've really wanted to try out hyprland, but I have no idea if it will work with my Nvidia GPU. Eventually, I'll get around to trying it out.

@@ImZipux Glad to hear you're enthusiastic about trying it. I'm actually running it with an rtx 3080 ti, and have had no Nvidia issues since using xwayland with explicit sync. Now that that's fully merged, and now that Nvidia drivers are coming with full support for explicit sync, it looks like (hopefully) most Nvidia issues will be a thing of the past.
As far as screen sharing goes, boy, I've tried it all. Without a doubt for discord Vesktop is the best way. It's the only way to get an audio screenshare with good fps, with window or display capture, and in such a way that people can adjust the screenshare volume without affecting the mic volume. When I used to route my audio into my mic and share my screen through my camera, my friends would call my screenshare "unconsensual", which is absolutely fair relative to the normal way. But ya, what I think will solve your issues with window capture, in any program, obs included, is using the right portals implementation. Hyprland has their own, and using it has solved most issues for me.
If you're having any issues feel free to let me know, I might be able to help

Yup I got Vesktop going and I've been playing around with Hyprland a little bit. So far, I'm in the middle about how to feel about it. I like it for some things, but then I think I'm missing things that I was able to do in AwesomeWM. It's going to take some learning and getting used to before I'd daily drive it. By the way, I'm on an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050TI.

I've been trying to switch to Linux for years, and I feel this shows a problem, you have a standard, it's old, not the best, but works. Then you create a new one Wich is supposedly better. Great... But It won't play well with 2 of my Nvidia cards, won't screen cap, won't do this and that, and everybody is adopting it before it's finished.
I don't understand the intricacies of why Wayland is better and I'm sure devs have their reasons. But man, so much won't just work. In Linux it either works flawlessly and is the best thing ever, or it's Extremely quirky.
And no, I'm not gonna pick new hardware for Linux, I've got 4 running machines I wish to keep running, 8 don't want to buy new stuff.

Thank you for sharing that with us. I think X11 is just fine for what I need, at the moment. For me, everything just works with it. I also run on an Nvidia card. Screen capture worked fine for me on Wayland, but window capture just wouldn't show up as an option at times. And when it did, it just showed a black window. I had someone tell me "oh but it is available as pipewire". Well I'm on pipewire and have been for a long time now. It still doesn't work properly. I think there's potential in Wayland. I just don't think it's ready for everyone yet. And if you're more comfortable on X11, you shouldn't switch. If you're setup is the way you want, you don't have to change it up just because it's new. People are in that new shiny syndrome stage with Wayland. And I personally don't have the money to upgrade stuff, so picking new hardware isn't for me right now, especially since everything works like it should. I'm not messing with my setup lol.
