    I don't understand why so many people put down Manjaro. I've been using it for years never a problem. Used it on ARM based devices, never a problem. I like having access to Arch user repository. Lots of software, highly customizable. What's the problem people have with it? Honestly...

    Hey if i want to add this command ("pyfiglet -s -f slant --color=BLUE Fedora") for the logo what should i add to the config file ?

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You could try doing something like "source": "$(pyfiglet -s -f slant --color=BLUE Fedora)" under logo. However, I haven't been able to make other commands work this way, despite the documentation saying that you can do command substitutions. So my suggestion is to copy and paste the text you get from the command into a .txt file and save it somewhere where you'll know where it's at (~/.config/fastfetch/logo.txt). Then, add in "source": "~/.config/fastfetch/logo.txt" and add in "type": "file" under logo. I will give you links to go to for all of this in this comment. It shows you two ways to go about adding in the source file, plus it tells you how to get the colors you want: github.com/fastfetch-cli/fastfetch/wiki/Logo-options th-cam.com/users/shortsOM8AsMhTNvY github.com/fastfetch-cli/fastfetch/wiki/Migrate-Neofetch-Logo-To-Fastfetch

    I used Mint but I needed more up to date drivers for my RX590 as I run audio through HDMI. The audio sounded all sorts of broken if I go beyond 30 hz. Switching over to the arch based Garuda Lite, which fixed it. I chose this for the Vanilla KDE experience, and it's still on the Arch branch. No complaints! Sure there's Endeavor but my current rig doesn't support it due to the lack of UEFI.

      @ImZipux 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So I just uploaded a short, specifically on how to do this, which can be found right here: th-cam.com/users/shortsOM8AsMhTNvY Basically, it depends on what you want to accomplish. Do you want the default ASCII Logo (your distro's ASCII Logo) or do you want your own? If you want the default, use builtin as the type in the logo section of your config.jsonc file. If you want your own, logo, you'll have to make it or find a way to have it made and then save it as a .txt file, and then you'll do "fastfetch --logo /path/to/file.txt". If you want this to happen every time you open a command prompt, just copy and paste that line into your .bashrc file.

    hey Zipux thanks and keep these videos coming there are too few creators like you showing real step-by-step detail. But what is jmtpfs useful for? I suppose it's specifically for Media Transfer Protocol, but why use that instead of Mass Storage Protocol, or adb?

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you very much for that. This is, indeed, specifically for Media Transfer Protocol. From my understanding of how this all works, using a Mass Storage Protocol or adb gives you more control over what you can access on your device; things that can literally make or break your system. I choose Media Transfer Protocol because I don't need to access anything but things like my Documents, Music, Pictures, etc type of folders. Plus, I don't really know much about using it as a Mass Storage Protocol or adb and I'm afraid that I would brick my device, if I tried it. And I don't have the money to replace it if I screw up something along the way. This would be for someone that could mount and unmount their device, but want to keep it simple and not have access to everything within their device, or for someone (like me) who don't want to screw up anything. But as I said before, using a Mass Storage Protocol or adb will give you more control over your device, and you can choose to go with those methods, if you need to access more than just your media folders and files.

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well the command just gives you access to the files via the PC. Just as a heads up, you still have to back them up to a HDD or something like that, if you're going to back up their files. I just didn't want you to think it would just automatically back it up because it's only meant to give it access, not to actually backup anything on its own.

While mozilla's new ceo seem to be doing a good job refocusing on firefox, I still dont trust them plainly just yet. But its a good path for now i suppose

      I've never used Vivaldi before, but I've been hearing about how good some of the features are. I would personally use a fork of Firefox, if not Firefox itself. But I will say that you gotta go with what you're comfortable with. If you're concerned about privacy, you need to go with what you feel will give you the most privacy, and not listen to those that want you to be on what they're on. Politics is very relevant to tech. Labor policy affects tech workers. Government contracts affect companies (& bolster closed source software). Platform's ability to self-censor is highly political & protected by policy. Right To Repair (or lack thereof) affects both hardware and software. Mergers of tech companies have regulatory approval processes and could be blocked by stronger antitrust regulations. Global relations with china, taiwan, and other countries affects the tech supply chain. Public school policy and funding affects tech education. Poverty affects individual priorities & ability to afford getting into tech. You can't disentangle politics from tech. Idk what DistroTube said but politics is part of basically everything. Edit: obvious one, privacy regulations.

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My point was never about politics not being relevant to tech, nor was it about disentangling tech politics. Tech politics was not what I had an issue with, as it could be relevant to the conversation about tech, though I personally wouldn't want to discuss even those politics. I just don't want to watch a video about AwesomeWM and someone getting into their conservative views about general politics. That's inappropriate for the video, as it's not what it's about. Again, it's not tech politics I'm concerned about. It's anything else that's political that doesn't belong.

    yes, but, it's arch though, that has been part of the culture for... forever. My suggestion, don't come to arch, if you can't handle the toxicity. Not trying to be discuraging, or an asshole, but there are many alternatives. Heck even artix (which is just arch without systemd) has a more friendly community.... Not everyone that uses arch is toxic, but arch definetly has some supremacy idiots, who think they are above the rest, so really, just stay away from arch if you can't handle the "RTFM"

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Though I highly disagree with you in places, I overall appreciate your comment. Culture is not an excuse to act in the ways that they do. My suggestion: they should touch grass. This does not discourage me whatsoever. In fact, it challenges me and gives me a reason to say "I did it on my own". That I never expressed in the video, but it is how I feel on the matter. I was speaking, in terms of others who have to go through RTFM. But I've dealt with this in the coding community as well, so I'm not new to it. Though I'm sure your intentions are in the right place, the alternatives bit just simply isn't true. Arch people complain when someone isn't using vanilla Arch and then they wanna gatekeep when they do switch but they're not "doing it right". The one thing I will agree with you on is that not everyone that uses Arch is toxic. The answer is not to stay away from Arch, but for Arch users to do better and for us to call them out when they're being lazy (amongst other things) by using RTFM on someone.

    Used to love Firefox, since it was a slim, fast, resource-friendly browser that let me set text-only zoom PER WEBSITE instead of one general setting. So I could have a big font size on websites with lots of text without forms (fanfiction sites for instance), but could leave it small on form-heavy sites like social media. And then Firefox kept adding and adding and adding bloatware that just killed its usability for me. Now I'm using Opra. And am experiencing a similar rise of bloatware (cough "AI" cough). Not nearly as bad yet, but I came to loathe Opera updates. Until Mozilla removes like 60% of unnecessary "features" from Firefox, I'm not going back.

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, Firefox is definitely customizable in those ways. It's why I like using Firefox. But if the goal is to become more minimal and not so bloated, I completely understand not wanting to run Firefox. There are some things that I don't find useful about Firefox, personally. But for me, I do a lot of customization to it to where I don't see those things that I don't want to see (like, pocket, for example). If I were to switch to something else, it would just be a fork of Firefox. I don't know how much different things would be, but there's just things I rely on Firefox for, as a browser. I've used OperaGX before, and it was good, until it lost all of my bookmarks. The save button did not take affect when I hit it and it erased everything. That's my biggest issue with Opera; I'm still burned from that experience.

At the moment, all of the issues that FF users seem to be experiencing are very obviously associated with Google-provided services and are easily circumventable. the reason you gave in the video for people choosing chrome over firefox is that chrome "exists" and "is the most popular browser", which I don't quite follow. Well actually I do follow it, the path it took me in looks like this: ⭕

      You make an excellent point about the next big thing. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with Firefox. I think it's fine just the way it is. Some people like the Google environment and wanna stay in it. And I think I see your point? That the logic is kinda circular? People want what others are using. It's no different than the situation with Wayland. People feel like they have to go to Wayland because everyone else is going to it. That's all I meant by that. Like, it's the new (not new though), shiny thing that everyone wants so they can be cool. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough on that part of the video.

    Sorry, but you completely misunderstood what RTFM means. Distros like Arch are for people who WANT to read the manual and learn how to do stuff. And then someone who just want to say "I use Arch, BTW" ask a question that indicates that they didn't even try to solve it themselves. That's irritating and Arch Linux isn't going to give them the experience they're looking for. There are probably some people using RTFM to put themselves above someone who doesn't want to deal with documentation, but assuming that that's the most of people, who help other arch users debug some nasty configuration challenges for nothing in exchange... Let's say that I don't think that it's not them being unreasonable, but you.

    • @slaier8727
      @slaier8727 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Is arch for people who want to read a manual though? I'm sorry but I really do think that over the past say 5 years with arch install scripts and the easier streamlined installation process that arch has become the defacto "minimalist-ish" distro for most noobies who'd prefer not to run a distro with a bunch of pre installed crap, not a distro for hardcore power users who want to read and understand how everything works (this is all in the scope of Linux users of course , to your average windows or Mac user any Linux user is advanced to a certain degree) So knowing that I do believe that "some" of the things asked around the internet can be solved by unironically reading the f manual , or by doing a quick Google search , but over the years the arch community has seriously become off putting and straight up rude to very normal well cited questions that can't be easily debugged by reading the manual. "Oh but it's so so simple, all the person has to do is xy" well of course most veteran arch users including those who answer questions think that , because they've already debugged that on their own a while ago! Anything is easy when you know how to do it , everything is simple when you've been using Linux for the past 10 Years. I don't think the point of the video or most complaints about RTFM come from people actually not wanting to read the manual , rather from people who'd gotten condescending responses to legitimately complex issues and been just told off for not knowing every bit of detail related to it beforehand

    • @slaier8727
      @slaier8727 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'd like to add that the knowledge of WHERE to actually look is in most cases the actual problem , not reading within itself. If I ask a question about something that I straight up don't know , my pc not booting for example , as a normal guy I don't even know WHERE to look to try and debug my issue. Is it grub? Is it the kernel? Is it Mesa fucking up my graphics? Oh right , I don't even know what Mesa is , because I'm a regular user , but you do , and you've experienced this before , so why not give a normal answer and move on instead ofbeing a jerk?

      So I'm someone who has a DIY attitude. I do want to read and learn how to do stuff, personally. I was speaking, in regards to how power users can be ugly towards others when solving problems. There are ways to show and tell someone to try to solve an issue themselves before reaching out without telling them to "RTFM". RTFM has become a meme that either people take so seriously that they leave Linux altogether or they don't take it seriously enough and never do their own research. So you either get people that get very upset and leave or very upset and demand that their questions get answered. Either way, it does nothing for the community and it wastes everyone's time. I'm saying the approach is wrong. And if their questions irritate you that much, you should (with all due respect) touch some grass. Why waste your own time in telling someone to "read a manual"? Do you actually bother to link where in the manual to go to? That would be helpful, instead of just saying to read for yourself. It gives them a starting point and then they can ask further questions, if they don't understand something. And I wouldn't just tell power users to touch grass. I'd also tell answer seekers the same thing if the power user becomes toxic towards them. We all should want to do better, in responding to others all around.
