Could you dudes do a review on a toyota Tacoma vs. Nissan Frontier that would be an awesome collection to your videos to add off road and camping review vehicles using trucks and rally cars.

    Hi guys! I wanted to tell share the design concept behind the Honda Element! So a bunch of Honda executives went to the beach to check out surfers in California and realized there was absolutely not a single Honda in sight. The surfers were using pickup trucks with camper shells to store and sleep in the back, hence the element has the moonroof to sleep and gaze the stars and also if you wanted to change out of your wetsuit you can use the sunroof in the back to change and have some privacy. And the seats fold and can be arranged is just enough for an average shortboard. The floor isn't rinseble with a hose but it can be wiped down easily. The concept title for the element was "Endless Summer"

    • @p.granger8824
      @p.granger8824 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Very nice and certainly believable based on the marketing around the element. Unfortunately for Honda, they didn’t realize that surfers didn’t have money for an element....as they had lost their wallets in the sea. This was compounded by the fact that those “changing surfer shells” on the trucks? They weren’t changing shells, those were the surfers homes.

      People bring up the price a lot as a reason for it's demise but it did come out during the SUV explosion. I guess it just didn't appeal to enough demographics. Maybe if it it didn't have suicide doors it would have been much more popular. People don't want to open their door just to drop off their kid. Makes for a lot of clumsy exits in parking lots too.

  • @Arkane117
    @Arkane117 6 ปีที่แล้ว +53

    The Element was ahead of it's time. I think most people didn't "get it" at first but I think more people would if it was sold now. I also think the main reason they discontinued the Element is because it actually offered too much utility and value for the price. Honda would make more money forcing people to buy a more expensive SUV instead. I hope they bring it back though...

    • @p.granger8824
      @p.granger8824 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The reason they discontinue the element is because it did not sell well. Hondas target audience wasn’t buying. Honda ended up selling the element to a group they hadn’t even considered- older people.
      But, I’ll agree that despite its few shortcomings, it made more sense than a CRV. In fact, I don’t get any of these small crossover suv type vehicles. They are basically slightly modified sedans sold at a higher price to people who don’t know any better.
      I sort of wanted an element, but given the unrealistic price expectations of their owners (who rarely are able to sell them), I’ve moved on into looking at a Mazda 5. The 5 has better mpg, pickup and *gasp* cargo room! In fact it has close to 25 more cubic feet than the element. All while being a fairly small vehicle with two sliding side doors. Only thing missing is awd but How many people realistically use the element as a off-road vehicle?

      @urielhernandez3286 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason why they made the Element is because most teenagers love the civic and accord so they decided to make the Element for teens due to having more headroom and being more safer they thought they were going to sell well but the people that bought them were people around 30 or older and also it wasn’t selling well due to the price and also people not being interested in the Element but later when it got discontinued people started to like the car and wanted to purchase one

    The sunroof that is placed in the back is removable allowing you to haul tall items such as surfboards or your Christmas tree home. The original concept was to make the back section removable (which is why it looks like it would be), but it was more economical to just cut a big hole in the back of the vehicle and cover it with a sunroof.

    I love my Element! One bastard totalled my first one on an intersection and I bought another one immediately. Best car I've ever owned. I will be very sad, when I will be done travelling around North America and will have to sell it, before going back home to Australia, where they don't sell these functionally beautiful, but visually hideous boxes on wheels. Best value for money camping/outdoor car you can buy. No matter what anyone says, AWD is also extremely capable for a car that's not really meant to be taken off-road. Clearance is great too, all things considered. Removable seats are the best feature. And it's spacious. I am 6.1" and very few cars have as much leg room both in front and the back, as Elements do.
    Funny enough, the car has such a following & appreciation that it's the only car I've owned, which seemed to have gone up in value since the day I bought it. Lots of people seem to want them now, while very few are willing to sell.

    JESUS H!!! I’ve watched you guys for the last six months or so and have subscribed (please stop pestering me, jk). I’ve always found your reviews to be quirky, funny, and informative. But MY GOD, this video had me laughing from the first F bomb to the ‘driving a Rubbermaid in the wind’. Keep being yourselves, keep being creative, keep bringing it!

    I really would love for ELEMENT to make a come back. I really love/want this sort of interior practicality design. There is Fit, HRV but make this next level amazing interior space, adjustability, etc...

    My GF has one a lot like yours. It may be the same year model, standard shift, and over 200k miles on it. She's finally selling it and has bought a new CRV. While it's much nicer in so many ways that only a new car can be, I think she still misses driving the Element. And BTW, the reason we got it in the first place was owning a large dog. It's the best for that.

    Yuri, when he finally does put the Element up for sale: "I know what I got."

    Always loved the concept. If Honda made the side passenger doors standard with a removable bench seat in the back, made the sunroof practical, and updated the engine with 180hp, with other options like antilock brakes, this would have been a best seller. Like a mini Pilot.

    For that guy hating on the element, he should know that the k24 engine is also on the accord and the crv, that engine is also on some acuras with different headers and exhaust which makes them increase power, the element has some airflow restriction which dont allow it to fully boom that k24 engine

    Taking out the rear seats makes it way lighter and helps a bit with acceleration. Sun roof was made to take out and stuck a surfboard in there.

    I love this car. Great for utility and SUV camping. What happened to it? Do you still have it? I have a 2006 Saturn Vue V6 with the Honda J35 engine and Tranny. I love it! Dad passed and gave me a low mileages one in fab condition. Gonna camp in it. Fast and fun. But would love an element

    Been trying for the last 4 years to find the right ELEMENT and just purchased one. A 2007 AWD with only 40k original miles. Pristine condition... Its a beauty! True story.. little old lady, original owner, barely drove it and now its mine.

    I had a 2007 Honda Element SC. I switched to a 2010 Toyota Rav4 V6 AWD. I got more space without having to do funny things with my seats. I could seat 5 people. I had AWD and 268 hp and got better gas mileage. I think you should do a Rav4 V6 review or a Rav4 V6 vs Element Review
