- Hey there! Welcome back for another video. today is all about the infamous dark tooth. Typically, we see this happen in patients who had a childhood injury or a root canal. With time, the tooth darkens and it causes a lot of insecurity in my patients. But the GOOD NEWS is that we have a method to fix it and it is fairly inexpensive! My mom did the root canal and internal bleach method and her tooth became fragile and fell off while eating. Why don't dentists talk about the risks of this method so patients can make a better decision for themselves.
omg i would be horrified if my front tooth fell out. makes me not want to do this whitening just thinking about it.

Thank you for this. I was looking to do this since I had trauma my front tooth. And it's dark. I am so sensitive to rootcanels. And just had three teeth done. I definitely scared to do my upper front near my nose. And what are the health effects for putting peroxide base solutions in ur face. That's why I'm holding off on fillers and such. Ugh I wish thier was transparency

Modern dentistry is amazing.
I asked a dentist over the phone to do internal bleaching and right the way he recommended crown. Sounds like a red flag.
It is probably to Dave you tooth, because once it is dead it is very fragile

Hey! Love this video. What if you chipped your tooth as a child and now it begins to darken, are you able to do this technique, since it was “trauma”?

I had internal bleaching done and my front tooth is still gray at its root and the one next to it is darker. Dentists said that they can put veneers on them, but they want to whiten all of my teeth first so the two teeth aren’t too white.
argh why do i have a dead tooth. i dont even know when the trauma happened. its gonna cost me a fortune to get a root canal :(
so i had tooth trauma and my tooth started discoloring but, it has not fully discolored even though it has been over 4 months

Nice Video Ma'am, I got a similar situation where my front tooth is discolored after a resulting trauma happened 20 years ago but there is no pain at all, two times RCT attempted on it but no success, my question is if I left it as is it, will it pass infection to other tooth ?

I'm exactly same as u . I'm wondering if they are miss identifying infection on the tooth because if it's Grey on the gum line of 2Dxray automatically they think rootcanel needed due to boneloss showing. But just like u living 20 yrs with the front tooth discolored from accident and how about if that discoloration is just from bone loss caused from the accident which I'm sure could be hand in hand. I'm trying to get laminate vaneers and now thier rly trying to push all this shit like rct and even crowns on the side which I know I don't need. Kind of annoyed how dentist just jump to these things when they don't think about our overall health at the end of the day. I dunno makes me not even want to do the vaneers. I just want to get my fillings and i just had rootcanels on my molars that actually infection and pain and that's it. Root canels are definitely not easy. It's really like doing plastic surgery where u need alot of rest naps water and more sleep again and these dentist don't seem to acknowledge that after treatments.

Hi, I found your video to be informative. I've had dry/chapped lips for the longest time and tried MANY lip products to alleviate that. Recently, someone told me that my lips may be reacting to the fluoride in toothpaste. I stopped using fluoride toothpaste and now my lips aren't chapped however, I understand that fluoride is the key to healthy teeth. Do you have any recommendations for alternative products?
Fluoride is not the key to healthy teeth. I have been using uncle Harry’s toothpaste for years. Please Google it.
Have you tried pure petroleum jelly? I spent so much money on different chapsticks nothing was working in the end I just went back to vaseline and it worked.
Also if you don't want to use fluoride make sure you use a mouthwash or toothpaste that contains xylitol.
(Not a dentist) Could it be not quite the fluoride in the toothpaste but the surfactant? I know lots of people find sodium lauryl sulfate to be irritating on their lips. I use Sensodyne Pronamel and it has no SLS. Also, a layer of Vaseline or Aquaphor on my lips before & after brushing helps a great deal.

I’m in tears right now. My brother head butted me for no reason on my two front teeth. My tooth felt sensitive while I was eating and drinking. And it feels weird. My mom didn’t do anything except tell him to sit down. I’m only 11 and it’s my adult teeth I don’t want to be ugly help me
Poor thing. My brother threw a phone at my mouth when I was about 11. I'm 29 now and it's Darker and I'm getting it whitened. Ask your mum to take you to a dentist so you can get an xray. If it's going to get darker it will happen when your alot older, in this case I'd suggest when your old enough get a part time job and start saving so you can get some treatment. You'll be fine don't worry :)
I got my tooth knocked all the way back when I was 14 from wrestling with my boy cousin. He accidently headbutt me when I was on his back. I was afraid to tell my dad because I didn't want him to get in trouble so I pushed it where it was supposed to, and did not use that tooth (front left) for weeks. I dont remember because it was so long ago I am 40. The dentists say it healed beautifully and straight, except I never had feeling in it ever again. Recently this year the tooth started getting darker and the dentist told me that the dead nerve had probably started to rot or get infected... I had a root canal today on it. I started "feeling pain from cold and thought it was coming "alive again", but it has just been getting darker. The dentist is doing the bleaching method today too. Bottom push them where they need to be, and don't mess with them. If you could get a retainer and wear it during the day to remind you not to mess with it or eat using it... even better. My dentist said that works even better. It should heal just fine if you treat it with care. Maybe later in life you will need a root canal, but like I said it was over 20 years ago, and I am JUST now starting to have problems.

What if your enamel is kind of weak ? I love acidic things like limes which I guess caused my enamel to get weaker

Then that means infection has occurred again and the dentist that did the RCT was shit. And u must go to another dentist preferable endodontist (that is root canel specialist -going to school 3 yrs+ after dentistry too be RC specialist.)
I have the same thing, trauma to the front tooth and it’s darkening now. My dentist wants to do a root canal & a crown but I’d rather try interna bleaching, what should I do?
Me too, I had a bike accident and my tooth was pushed back. I had a root canal, because my tooth was dead and there was infection in it. I never had pain, but after an x-ray I saw it had a little bit of a black spot at the tip(infection). I got a root canal, but my dentist said it was going to stay dark no matter what. The bleaching would work but it had to be constant and it would become brittle she said it’s sturdy and I don’t have to get an implant, but if I did to get a porcelain veneer, and an implant later in life because they do weaken over time.
What did you end up doing?
@@alicechained210 I bleach my teeth, and I’ll probably stay with my real tooth for as long as possible. But I’ll prob go with an implant instead of a crown.
@@ABCD-vm1mx I just received this news yesterday after having a cleaning and I am devastated. I have all 32 teeth (I had enough room and my wisdom teeth grew in with no problems) and I love my smile, but am feeling so very self conscious about it now. What kind of bleaching system are you using?

@@abdulsalaamuthman4589 it's not fine. I have soft sensitivity so I plan to get apicoectomy this time. I had botched root canal treatment in the beginning that I didn't resolve quickly so I guess it affects the second root canal result. The tooth will become darker after root canal not whiten.

How long does it last before it's greyish again? Searching on google, it says max 5 years. I asked an endodontist some years ago, He said 2-3 years. I found some comments on youtube that said their tooth turned greyish again after just one year. It make me wondering if I need to choose implant over internal bleaching considering the long term
Oh do laminate vaneers. Don't do implant. Rootcanel therapy is less invasive as implant. If u don't have good dentist and put implant into insufficient bone then u going to have host of complications if it's sitting in ur sinus area or close to vegus nerve. I am In works to do Laminate vaneer. But I had this discolored tooth 20+ yrs. The reason dentist say u need rct is because they see black/Grey on the gumline in the 2D xray and automatically think oh infection must need rootcanel how about if it's just boneless due to truama/accident. This is what is annoying me not enough applicable evidence to prove so.

Yes, actually, we can significantly and permanently whiten, almost any tooth that has had a root canal and turned dark from some trauma.

What if you have a dark front tooth but the nerve is still alive? Will internal whitening hurt?
*Bruised/Sprained* Mines a slight dark shade since I caused blunt trauma to it but it shouldn’t hurt if you no longer have any nerve pain. maybe just a little

What if your adult tooth grows out yellow and white? The yellow is inside of the tooth. Would the internal whiting process work on that type of tooth?
