Lyrics:
Is there a time for keeping your distance
A time to turn your eyes away
Is there a time for keeping your head down
For getting on with your day
Is there a time for kohl and lipstick
A time for curling hair
Is there a time for high street shopping
To find the right dress to wear
Here she comes
Heads turn around
Here she comes
To take her crown
Is there a time to run for cover
A time for kiss and tell
Is there a time for different colours
Different names you find it hard to spell
Is there a time for first communion
A time for East Seventeen
Is there a time to turn to Mecca
Is there time to be a beauty queen
Here she comes
Beauty plays the clown
Here she comes
Surreal in her crown
Dici che il fiume
Trova la via al mare
E come il fiume
Giungerai a me
Oltre i confini
E le terre assetate
Dici che come fiume
Come fiume...
L'amore giungerà
L'amore...
E non so più pregare
E nell'amore non so più sperare
E quell'amore non so più aspettare
[Translation of the above]
You say that the river
finds the way to the sea
and like the river
you will come to me
beyond the borders
and the dry lands
You say that like a river
like a river...
the love will come
the love...
And i don't know how to pray anymore
and in love i don't know how to hope anymore
and for that love i don't know how to wait anymore
[End of Translation]
Is there a time for tying ribbons
A time for Christmas trees
Is there a time for laying tables
And the night is set to freeze -
I was only 6 when my family managed to escape from hell of Sarajevo. I can't describe what this song meant to me, my family and all those refuges and those who were still suffering in Sarajevo! It was a symbol that someone still cares about us, that we are not forgotten!! So, I just wanna say THANK YOU U2!!! P.S. Saw them in Zagreb on 10.8.2009 and were incredible!!
I’m sorry the world stood by and allowed this.
😔😔😔 NO wars
Peace to you, to your family and your people, from Perú 🇵🇪 ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Fuk it Im glad we can sing this together
🙏💕
Has the balls to sing the Pavarotti part, not in some random city but in Milan, La Scala, opera etc. very very brave singer and nails it.
+sroodjim I thought the same
cant stop playing this
N thats d best part of the song.
Class comment sroodjim
first he did it in Amsterdam. 16th of july 2005. Goosebumps. So beautiful.
This has to be Bono's defining moment as a singer, I find it impossible to listen to this version without tears coming to my eyes.
Bravooo . Oo man when I was reading your coment, I was thinking in my head, "heyyy you have steal my words" haha xD I wont leave a coment becouse you did if for me 👍
Took balls to say the least to attempt this..
My thoughts and feelings exactly
Great song, pity Bono's a fraud. Pay your taxes wankbag
To the people of Ukraine. We are with you. Take care.
First time I've seen this version, and Jesus Christ, that takes some balls to take on Pavarotti's part, and not make it flaky.
All credit to you Bono, it gives me goosebumps.
Amazing!❤❤❤
This performance is so deep. An Irishman singing a song he wrote about a war in the balkans, years before, dedicated to people killed in London on 7/7... partly in Italian...in front of an Italian audience... a part originally sung by their greatest vocal export... and he does it justice... and his dead father sang opera.. Jesus
The Father was with him that night, honestly.
There are no coincidences with the love of the Father❤
“Don’t become a monster in order to defeat a monster” one of the best lines in music history
Bono plagiarized this from Nietzsche, but o.k. Usually Bono takes things and twists their meaning (see his endorsement of gay marriage, which is antithetical to the Church). But in the case of Nietzsche, he actually took what he meant and repeated it.
When non-violence fails, we must turn to violence to beat violence and restore peace. Gandhian policy is nonsense and does not apply at the level of the nation.
2022 enters the room.
@@OFFICIALUND lol u scared of gays?
@@yncasasue9721 Scared? Lol. Hardly. Very good friends with quite a few. But they know how repulsive I find their conduct.
I honestly didn´t think Bono could sing like that, what a voice. Superb performance. *****
Almost only Bono can sing this part in italian in the rock world. Bono has one the most powerful voice in the history of rock. Even if today, his voice doesn't have 50% percent of the quality of the early 90's, he remains one of the best singer on the market !
Exactly
Italian part - 3:20- 4:45. That second holding of "AMOOOOOOORE" is absolutely incredible (4:08-4:21). Pavorotti would be very proud of Bono. Makes me want to learn Italian.
Ireland needs to proclaim Bono a national treasure. I stumbled on this video and, as usual, am awestruck by U2's talent.
they mightve if he didnt hide all is money from them to avoid paying tax there
if you dont understand u2 , i feel sorry for you. i dont have a clue were my head and heart would be if i didnt have u2 in my life. they are the only band who can lift u up out of the "shite" and touch the nerves of your soul.......and make your soul sing!!
what a voice.....no-one can touch u2 live..........NO-ONE.x peace G.
(pop martian)
It has to be one of Bono's best ever vocal performances.
2011 version is even better
Check out every breaking wave from mtv music awards either 2008 or 2009 . Powerful
Correction 2014
That performance was unreal.
An Irishman singing Pavarotti to an Italian audience in Milan unbelievably ballsy but all I can think of is how much I love my Irish Mother. Assolutamente Bella!!!
#DUNGANNON COUNTYTYRONE
out of wedlock born disgusting west cultures
Nintendo Guy00 dude I don't know what the f*** that means or what you're trying to say
Nintendo Guy00 stick with Nintendo douchebag
I don't expect a dude that calls himself Nintendo Guy to get it. Stick with masturbation and gaming.
The spirit of humanity represented in a moment. The greatest band in our time. Their music is timeless.
I can’t imagine how moving this must have been live. Just amazing.
I was at this actual gig and this was one of the highlights of the night. The crowd in Milan were so thrilled and surprised when he sang in Italian. When he started the lyrics sung by Paverotti on the recorded track, there was huge applause (not really audible on this recording), then when he held the word 'Amore' with such force, there was a huge roar from the crowd, including me. By singing in Italian in front of Italians he cemented the love between U2 and Italy. It was a really fabulous concert.
I didn't expect bono to sing the pavarotti part so well 🤩🤩🤩
I cry every time I listen this song. I can't imagine how hard is for him to sing the whole song.
Bono you are great human, greetings from Sarajevo ..
Elvis j. kurtovic kad je human sto nije dossao u Srbiju. Americki covek nema on pojma ko je tu kriv a ko niije u ovom prljavom ratu. Igra kako amerika kaze
Znamo sta smo trpili i sta dalje trpimo.
some people drink, some take drugs, me I just need to listen to U2 playing songs like this live. There is no greater pleasure in life!
Thank you!
This song always brings a tear to my eye. Art can do that. Artists do that, bring
Beauty where it isn't evident. This song communicates the stark contrast to the genocide that was
Occurring in war torn Bosnia. A beauty pageant that took place with rubble and destruction all around.
Pavarotti gives so much feeling Bono does the same here incredible. Life goes on, get on with it but not without its scars and remembering lives lost.
Bono just hauls his gargantuan Irishman-singing-Italian-to-Italians balls up to that G#4 and fucking smashes it.
My mother in-law is 80 years old born in Italy a big Pavarotti fan I’m 52 and a huge U2 fan she loves this song even this live version it’s incredible how music can connect people of all ages
This live version will go down as one of U2's best ever, I was moved from the opening prayer and we Bono open the vocals and took on Pavarotti's part OMG, such a beautiful song with such moving lyrics. Go Bono Go U2
bad language denise arm weakness
When Bono hits that note at 4:09 OMG !!
+Denise Armstrong That long part makes me feel emotional and also people loved his effort..
Ah come on now. Wasn't in the realm of the master he wrote the song for to sing. I admire his heart striving in attempting it but lets be honest, he is never ever going to touch pavoroti
Sometimes it's the striving that makes it special
@@krackowkid6618 no one claimed he did it better than Pavarotti. They could've easily played a recording of Pavarotti. Bono wasn't trying to match Pavarotti either. He sang it how he could and with his heart and he killed it.
YESSSSSSS
Thank you Bono and U2 for everything you did for Bosnian Nation. I'll never foreget your concert in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (1997). This song say everything as He sing from his hearth with tears in his eyes as He did the same at '97 when he had sing this song for first time.
Quite possibly.... the greatest band in history
nealtracy yes
Sometimes, I really think people are only expecting them to die in order to finally recognize it XD
A true singer!!!
WOW! He absolutely NAILED IT! Goosebumps!
Emotion that nearly surpassed talent (nearly) , Bono's risked and went to the edge (no pun intended) .... What you hear is BREATHTAKING. The soul is bare, raw, pure ..... Uplifting beauty captured xx
Bono has a damn fine voice. I am treasuring this performance!
Music and lyrics are amazing. Bono voice is amazing.
4:08 tears in my eyes
Me too! From 3:50-4:22 I was lifted to the heavens man....just wow! Chills all through my entire being! That was just beautiful!
Blown away..when you think youve seen U2 done everything. they still surprise you with one of the most moving performances i have ever seen them perform. everything they sing about comes from the heart. and after every performance you are left speechless. this is why U2 is the greatest band of all time.
How many bands have had such a profound impact in society and people's lives? Not many. U2's music speaks for itself. Huge U2 fan since their early days of Boy & The Unforgettable Fire . Amazing to see how they have persevered and stood the test of time. Nice mix of their songs/vids. Such a great band!!! 1st time hearing U2s version of the timeless classic Unchained melody by the Righteous Brothers. U2 nailed it! Love the Red Rocks(Denver) live version of Sunday Bloody Sunday. Quintessential U2 and Bono in their earlier stages which is what made them so great. Enjoyed the other live performance of Sunday Bloody Sunday where Bono recites all the names who were killed in that tragic event from memory! He didn't read from a list. Just goes to show his true passion and talent. I enjoyed Mary J Bliges version as well. I had forgotten that she had even done that. Really nice. Thanks for making & posting all their videos! Thanks for all the great memories U2❤
My favorite rendition of Sunday Bloody Sunday is when the Edge performs it out on the walkway stand in the middle of the crowd with just him and his guitar and microphone to sing it. I think it was a good 15 years or so or more and I think it was in Paris France? It was absolutely tear-jerking. I remember vaguely him talking in an interview about that version. And he said that he wrote the song like that in the first place to be like a memorial type almost Church like song of grief and like a funeral. Where of course the regular version is much more upbeat and angrier. It's on TH-cam The Edge version alone with his guitar, you just have to find it. To me that's by far the best rendition of Sunday Bloody Sunday I've ever seen😢
The most beautiful version of this song I've heard! Bono nails it!
This moves me to tears every time
Sempre amei bastante esta música 😎linda ✌️💘
this performance gives me chills every time . amazing vocals 👏🏽
The ultimate live vocal performance. It's all about guts.
The ultimate vocal performance is that made by Pavoratti. Let's no exagerate!
"Amooooooooooooooooooooorreee"
gave me insane goosebumbs!
This moves me everytime I hear it. And Bono, wow. Just wow
I have a two year old boy, and every time he hears this song he sings it with me and when its over he asks to play it again, I love this song and its meaning... One of my favorites from U2
Vivian Chavarria R 😍❤
one of my favourite songs ever
Tak ❤️
No matter how many years I adore U2
Every time I discover new and exciting versions
Bono is amazing, my whole body shiver, wow
I cry everytime I hear this performance. It's very moving. Brilliant! Thanks for this!
i just can't stop listening to this, i just skip to the opera part. it sends a shiver down my spine, every time, without fail.
"We'd like to turn our song into a prayer, and the prayer is that we don't decome a monster, in order to defeat a monster" This was a very important observation that he did there.
what a stunning vocalist Bono is, he sung it so effortless, my heart is racing after that magnificent performance
Questo canzone vale mille de parole, brividi, 👁👂🙌🙌🙌👍💯🥰👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Beautiful song and a version that surpasses the original, the subtle changes in the lyrics with gigantic effect and that crescendo of Bono's operatic performance in Milan of all places. His defining moment I think, showing there is nothing he cant do musically, vocally. A Legend. So cruel still my favourite though.
No actually, I just watched this again, it's my No.1.
This song and performance epitomize the talent that Bono has for composing and singing. The oprah part that he sings demonstrate how broad his vocal capabilities are and the music itself is a specimen of poetry and art. Beautiful...
C'ero a quel concerto. Che nostalgia!
What can I say? The most emotional performance I have ever seen of this very emotional song. I can't believe Bono took Pavarotti's lines and did them so well. The song always touches me anyway, having visited Sarajevo in 1985 and met a lot of kindness. I often wonder where they are now...
wowowow.....this man is like a God....truly gifted beyond words, what cant he do, and in his presence, he has full control of everyone!
RIP Pavarotti.
Bono did a really good job with it. And this video is one of many that proves why U2 is one of the greatest.
Bono was on fire on this day! what a moment!
I am weeping right now.
love unlimited forever, still teardrops , great emotions after 14 years
4:09 incredible!! i didn't think bonno was going to sing it perfectly...amazing!!!
If you don't get chills from this, something is missing. Incredible.
Knowing Bono's father loved opera, for him to sing this would have been a dedication to him also
All the members of U2 bring something brilliant to the table, hence why they continue to make great music :-)
Holy cow that is awesome. That is a ballsy Bono to perform that and with such passion, and fear....
What even is this. Unbelievable. If he isn't considered to be one of the best rock singers in the history, I literally don't know who is.
Auguri!? 🌷😘
this is special song to all of us who were born and still living in Sarajevo...thank you U2...
one of the best live moments with this band
Tears in my eyes.
Grande Bono e Grande Luciano!
rip luciano you were the greatist
Omg, i 'm crying...
That's the power of music!
Reading from something just to get the Italian right, bless him. This was the last of the great U2.
John Doe maybe because he’s not fluent in Italian wonder how Pavarotti would have sang As Gaelige ,
U2 is one of the greatest bands to walk the earth..nothing better ! the concerts speak and reach out to everyone in the audience....i absolutely love them, i saw they're latest 360 tour in concert in september..one of the greatest shows ive ever seen...god bless bono for his back injury , hope he heals perfectly...love them
One of my all-time fave U2 performances. Go Bono!
bono's voice is magnificent!!!!!! great performance....great show
Eu amo a banda U2.. aqui no Brasil, somos brasirlandes.. thanks Bono Vox & U2
I Think if Bono worked at it he could be a world class tenor opera singer. He just as the lungs for it. he would probably have to give up the smokes, but he has the range and pitch for it. U2 FTW
So much people don't get he is not a technician. He sings with all his heart. That's why he is one of the greatest singer of all time.
A breathtaking live percormance!
Goosebumps............
Bono gives me goosebumps everytime i hear this song 💘
The 1sttime i heard this in a theatre, really loud, i got goosebumps , like god walked in .
OMG. He sang this song @ MSG-NYC during the Vertigo Tour and it was spectacular. Bono nailed the high notes like a veteran opera singer. Can't wait to see them @ Giants Stadium this Summer.
This performance by Bono is so amazing! He sang it for us @ MSG/NYC during the Vertigo Tour. It was amazing then also.
La vem ela com sua coroa.... Muito bonita a Letra! Grande U2
D+
WONDERFULLLLLL !!!!!
it's so beautiful when his voice trembles.Fantastic
Gives me goosebumps everytime I see/hear this.
Pavarotti smiles....
In the audio version I have, you listen to the audience as he breaks into Italian and honours Pavarottis part, then goes for that note- the audiences reaction must have helped Bono go to that place - awesome :)
YOUR VOICE GIVES ME SHIVERS EVERYTIME I HEAR YOUR VOICE..WHAT A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE..I LOVE U2.FOREVER.
Excellent j'adore ❤🌹
Wow I’ve no words. Loved this song anyway however this version is just ...
I can’t sum up in words TBH. Thankyou.
