Many thanks for your nice words. I think the old Conns have many qualities because they can be very versatile although they are often not regarded that wayby more contemporary players. The NW is different indeed from the 10M. I purchased the 10M years ago as a replacement however I still loved the tone of the NW too much to let it go. And I have decided I never will.
Zootish! What a great word! And I take that as a real compliment. I have been a real Zoot fan for many years now however I know I am nowhere near his genius style of playing and phrasing and never will be. But thanks anyway. The New Wonder sure has a lot of warm and smooth tone in there.
Hi, Thanks! The TM I am playing here was already opened to a 7* when I got it. Still I thought it was sounding a little too stuffy for my liking. So I decided to send it to Dave Jary (Jarycustoms) for a reface to add some more juice in it. He has addied a little epoxy baffle and opening the tip to a .106. Here I am using a Rigotti Queen 2,5 or 3 reed. However nowadays I prefer a Rigotti Queen 2 for more versatility and better subtoning. I can get a powerful 40's Arnett Cobb like tone on my 10M.
I slightly prefer the 10M, it has a dry quality to the sound I like. It sounds a little smaller, but very dense, and something about it reminds me of the fibrous quality of the cane. Nice playing.
Also, check Jason Kendall's Mark VI vs. New Wonder vid (it popped on my suggestions). I'd call the Selmer more "refined" and the NW much more "forward."
I am sorry I can't help you with the differences because I never played a post war 10M. However according to what I have read on the web I thing the body design including the bore size stayed pretty much the same thru the years. 1947 is still an excellent year for the Conns and your 10M still has the RTH I pressume. So there should not be much difference if any between yours and a pre war 10M. By the way if you find a vintage TM make sure it still has the original tip. They just sound best.
Lester played both the New Wonder and the 10M, in different periods. I think he started out on the New wonder (Chu Berry) and then later switched to, or tryed out 10M's.
I like both of them but the 1936 10 m sounds great that old time sound dark and robust the new wonder is great to it has a brighter sound both are great but the 10m wins
I uploaded two more takes with the Link Tone Master on the Conn New Wonder tenor. A little different in sound though. th-cam.com/video/WKqNnsrE-88/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/ID11lY5DVdY/w-d-xo.html
Amazing how different these two veteran horns sound, though ostensibly not much different in design. To me, the NW has a much fatter and rounder sound - the 10M is thinner and edgier. I wouldn't call one better than the other; I imagine the 10M would have more projection if you're looking for that, whereas I would certainly prefer the NW for straight solo/ballad work.
Hello, I still play both Conns on and off. They are different in tone and comfort but both suit me well for different purposes. Also different mouthpieces. That said I think the 10M is more versatile. also for more contemporary playing. The New Wonder has a sound of its own and with the right mouthpiece sounds better and fuller. I love to use the NW for more older school jazz and R%B styles. So I still like both a lot. I hope this answers your question.
Magic!
Thank you very much!
The 10M sounds like a sports car, fast and a controlled beast. I bet you could really unleash it!

Great playing, great sound, very interesting to compare the mouthpieces. Thanks a lot
Honestly if I closed my eyes and didn’t know there were two different saxophones being played. I wouldn’t be able to tell them apart.
Yesssss. 10M forever 🎷

At about 8:28 I heard Lester's voice which was weird because it came from the 10M. Just goes to show it isn't the horn, but the player.

+Cinelli Crooks Lester played a Conn so it's the horn not the player

super merci
Klasse !!
I agree. However when pushed the 10M really kills.
Hallo my friend i have a question. Which Model is better for you? What is your rezension?
