3:26 I disagree with ur statement here. Idk about Canada but amierica was all about anime and mechas in the 90s bro! Well at least for me and my group of friends at the time
@@jumpingbear i was a huge anime nerd in the 90s as well but I feel like it was more niche like u said u and your friends were but not everyone in general. Nowadays almost everyone at least knows what Dragonball is lol
Good on ya for covering Cybernator / Valken. Would be glorious of ya if you went on and covered every mech assault style game you could get your hands on so I can compare with your building list. Honestly we need more mech games and coverage and promotion where we can get em.
Well I don't know if I'll be able to cover them all but I can try to make a video with me favorites. A couple to check out if you haven't already are Panzer Paladin and Metal Unit.
This was a constant rental for us back in the day. Loved the shit out of it, never got past the second level! However, I've finally completed this version with the excellent quality of life improvements, namely the arm rotation speed! Fantastic port. Really hope they do a physical release. I just snagged a copy of Front Mission: Gun Hazard for the Super Famicom. I've never played it, but it looks great! Assault Suit Leynos for the PS4 however is an insanely difficult game and not nearly as fun.
Yes, Leynos was way harder, but there was a neat trick at level 1. If you rush to the end boss and don't kill anything, and have a score of around 3000 you are rewarded with all the weapons available, which makes live a lot easier :)
Whoa!... That takes me back... I don't remember even thinking about this game since the nineties, but now I'm coming over all nostalgic... We were all so young and full of hope... Thanks for the trip down memory lane (!)
I played it back in the day and it became the bar I judged mech platformers. I went on to play every Assault Suit style game i could get my hands on. Including other devs who did similar like Lucas Arts did Metal Warriors some time after this one back in the day, and I also played clone style games recently by Astro Base I think the other company is called. Many years later I played the japanese version of this game, and had all the radio conversations translated. I then bought this game DAY ONE, played through and my hands made it through despite my nerve damage. Im often not one for behind the scenes vids, but hearing the artist confirm what I believed of the game and inspirations, and then new ones, really was worth the extra price tag. I would love it if the franchise suddenly came back, 3D or 2D. If done 3D though, they should look at the Japanese PSX VOTOMS game that came out long ago for controls inspiration. Just as it took inspiration from the punch system they also had long ago.
Try marching through those torpedo tubes on the one level. They can be risky but you dash to get around and you got special ammo upgrades down in them pipes! Would love to see Assault Suit Valken suddenly getting a return of the IP into a moving franchise again.
Wait for at least 80% dude as the game is just a SNES rom with a bunch of extras you can just find on TH-cam or online for free. The new soundtrack cannot even be used in game, making it pointless and I have never met anyone who sits there looking at art galleries in games in 2023. The extra story bits and cutscenes are a lie, it is the exact same game as on SNES (which isn't bad as it is a great game) but people are singing praises of it and I swear none of them must have played both versions.
Not worth the full price. I bought the game after seeing three reviews talking about how much they fixed/improved and all the extras. After buying it, I found that the extra content is just some screen filters, an art gallery, a playthrough video and the original CD soundtrack which can't even be used in game. Basically all the extras are things you can just look at for free on TH-cam or by Googling them and you are left with a massively overpriced SNES rom. I own the original SNES version of it and it is EXACTLY same game. I don't know what these people going on about more story and cutscenes are smoking. Everything is the same as the SNES version that I own and have played more than enough times to remember inside out. You are paying 25usd for a rom you can get for free. Get it on sale or skip it entirely.
Hold up hold up.... Play through without one death for the good ending? Bruh, I'm not sure that's the case. You need to kill the ending boss before he escapes out to get the good ending I'm pretty sure.. But I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I died and kept the death on a save state. But yeah was pretty sure it was just kill the final boss before he escapes. But hey maybe you dun taught me a thing!
The developer is calling it the Super Playthrough I can't vouch for it myself as I am far from capable of it yet but it's in the press notes. Don't know if they created a new ending
And people keep touting about all the improvements....... I have both the SNES and this version and they are the same. I don't consider an art gallery or a soundtrack only playable in the options to be something you can charge money for in 2023 when everything is online for free..... At $5 sure, $10 you are pushing it but it is reasonable, $25? What are you smoking and can I have some?!
I am confused. Everyone is going on about all the extras and how it is a definitive version with all the bells and whistles.......... I am either dumb or blind but I literally cannot find ANY of the extras I keep hearing, such as the redone soundtrack which outside of options, I can't see anyway to actually use it in game. Also I hear and see footage of people changing their initial weapons in stage 1, including having the secret napalm gun unlock IN STAGE 1. The one I paid for on Switch and downloaded is literally the exact same game I played on the SNES with just an art gallery and the usually extras that no-one ever cares about. I love this game. I own it on SNES. But this is a insanely subpar port of it. It is just the SNES rom with a fancy art gallery thrown in.
@@ToolShopGuy I never played it growing up but am a fan of classic games. The extras and translation make it worth while. I was waiting for a sale though. I just got it downloaded so not sure yet.
All the extras are just stuff you can find on TH-cam and online. What you are left with is a $25 SNES rom. I dunno what the cutscenes and extra story stuff they keep mentioning is because I have played through both the SNES version (which I own on SNES from the 90s) and the Switch version (which I stupidly bought after listening to reviews) and there is NO difference between them.
Loved the game back in the days and completely mastered it on every difficulty level. It wasn't that hard once you knew how. It was a sequel to Assault Suit Leynos (on the Mega Drive), which was way harder than Valken. Leynoss got a (Very good) rerelease on the PS4. You could play the original version but also a remastered version with a realy great arranged soundtrack of the (already very good) Megadrive OST. There was also a conversion of Assault suits Valken (Cybernator) on the PS2 but that one was inferior to the Sfamicom version. It was slower than the Sfamicom version, the controls sucked and they "remastered' the music. It was completely out of tune and nowhere as good as the original Sfamicom music. I'm a bit weary if this version of Valken is a conversion of the original Sfamicom version of a conversion of the terrible PS2 version.
I was super interested in this when I saw it but then I saw the price... I'd only pay $25 for this if it was a physical copy, for me if I ever see it under $10 i will definitely pick it up.
Wait for a sale of at least 80% or just get the SNES rom. Despite what all the reviews I have seen say, the game is identical to the SNES version (which I also own). The extra cutscenes and story bits that people mention are a complete fabrication, this changing your starting loadout thing I heard people mention is a complete lie and the extras are just art gallery, soundtrack (not even usable in game) arrangements and a video guide. All of these are things you can see on TH-cam and online for free, leaving you with a $25 dollar SNES rom.
Thanks for Watching let me know what you think of the format!
