Nice update! One little correction though: At least as far as the Japanese version goes, once you unlock the Napalm Gun by shooting only the boss in the first level, you don't need to do anything else in order to keep it. There is a rumour that beating the second level the way you mentioned makes the Napalm Gun upgradable, but I've done that and it's not the case.

Back in January of '93, less than a month after getting an SNES for Christmas, my brother and I bought Cybernator for $20 at Babbages. The first "blind buy" for us as we took a calculated risk because we didn’t know if was good or not (our allowance rate was constantly renegotiated), but we couldn't say no to the low price.
DUDE! I'm so happy to see this on the channel finally. This game is such a hidden gem. This was fantastic in the 90s. One of my favourite SNES games and I used to lend it out as much as possible to spread the joy.
It does have the Japan ending where the president shoots himself when you confront him at his desk prior to the final part of the last stage. That part was cut in the SNES US version. It also has the secret Napalm weapon as well as the super secret make the Napalm weapon upgradeable secret. Both work and unlock the same way as before in Declassified. Oh and you don't lose the Napalm weapon if you don't upgrade it in stage 2, you just cannot upgrade it beyond the initial state. It's still in your weapon list and can be used, even in the cave stage that limits your weapons - both in the original and Declassified.
Kirby: Revenge of Metaknight HAD to take inspiration from this! They're so similar, and I love the execution of that Kirby mini-game! Because of this, I think I'd really like Cybernator, especially if they change it to have the dialogue go while playing like in Revenge of Metaknight.
Some corrections about the napalm weapon: - On Mission 1: DO NOT SHOOT ANY ENEMY, INCLUDING THE TURRETS OF THE BOSS. FIRE ONLY AT THE CENTER MASS OF THE BOSS. -After obtaining the napalm weapon in Mission 2, all you have to do to keep it, is finishing the mission. You can take damage, but if you lose a life in Mission 2, you don't keep the napalm weapon. -The napalm weapon is insanely powerful, it one-shot kills pretty much every enemy and kills even bosses with 4-5 well placed shots. The downside is: it doesn't have much of a range and you need to fire it like a mortar in an arch, in order to hit enemies who are far away. Also, the napalm weapon, if used too much, needs some time to reload, like a cool-down, so use it wisely. Oh and anothet thing: USE YOUR SHIELD. Don't try to play this game like a typical run and gun like Contra. Move slow, use the shield.
Fantastic game and a must have in your collection. You are right about the controls, at first that drove me away until years later I went back and said "I was a fool this is awesome"
this was one of those deep memorys from early childhood along with games like rise of the robots, the gameplay, the music, the visuals all just left such a powerful impression, but they were just obscure enough that i forgot they existed, and never heard anything about either game until i did some digging online years later

I have this game complete in box since 1997. In my country we used to interchange games in the "tianguis" (kind of a flea market) and I interchange this game for my bootleg copy of a Dragon Ball Z game. I was so happy but my brother got mad at me hahaha. But I have not regrets, this game is amazing.
I'm always amazed by how little time it takes you, SNES drunk, to beat these games. You can beat Cybernator in under two hours?! Jeez. I think it took me like 5 times that amount just to get through the first few levels. Mad respect
It really is one of the best Nintendo games. For everything this game did at the time, it could be considered the gold standard for a shoot ‘em up. Your ability to jump as he mention feels clunky because you’re a mech. Really adds to the feeling of fighting. The variety of weapons is also great. Power ups that you can find can be used on many different weapons, and you feel rewarded for exploring the level when that makes you stronger. The storyline is also pretty damn cool. You start out feeling like you’re just fighting in a war, but the little bits of dialogue and characters you meet give your soldier Jake personality. By the time you approach the final stage, it all blends together. You’re one of the last mech soldiers left on your ship, your ship enters the level looking absolutely thrashed to represent your brutal journey, and you’ve powered up your weapons to defeat the toughest enemies to come. I believe there is even a little romantic ending. When you complete the final level (the version where you don’t meet the big bad), you exit your busted mech and embrace the female communications officer that has been with you the entire journey. At least I assumed the two ended up together. Her starts out in the beginning as “just business”, but by the end she is genuinely fearful we might die. All of this packed into an hour.
Yoooo I'm all about you revisiting old topics! Speaking of, you absolutely must redo X-Men Mutant Apocalypse - that game is soooooo good. Give that one a replay while utilizing the special moves, trying different combos and characters for replayability. Bless Drunk 🙌
I really loved this game, the music and pixel art were amazing. I also really loved how they made your mech feel really heavy when walking jumping and landing
You should consider uploading in at least 1440p. Even if you recorded the footage at 720p, using something like obs to upscale it to higher resolutions can really help on youtube. It's not like that upscale is producing any details that weren't there before, but 1440p and up on youtube gets a significantly higher bitrate. That means less artifacting and softness on edges. Two things that do not do old pixel graphics any justice at all. Keep up the good work dawg! I'm pretty sure we both started our channels around the same time. Insane how time flies.
Declassified does have the original ending! But the best thing about Declassified is all the extras, like they wanted to do a physical copy but didn't have the money to do so, the arranged OST created with the original sound samples is great.
Cybernator was one of the games that was almost always rented out at the 3 video stores near where I lived. The only was to hope to get it for the week end was to go thursday evening and if it was there to pay for it until sunday.
I absolutely loved that game! I remember being like 13 years old when I rented it and when I shot the walls and floor and it left bullet holes it blew me away. One of those moments you never forget.
One aspect that impressed me back in 1993 and still does now, is the feeling of weight the Mech has. It is clearly a 5-ton death machine, and not made of papier mache.
Quick note on getting the upgrade for the napalm gun. "All" you have to do is not get hit by the small destructable asteroids and only shoot the final boss like in the first level. That means the small asteroids in the beginning, the asteroids with the turrets later, and the asteroids that get spawned by the boss. You can get hit and damaged by anything else, besides the small destructable asteroids. There is like a single video on youtube about it and shows the playthrough and on level 3 how the dash got replaced with the number counter.
Please keep doing these revisits. I do want to see moreof your improved reviews on older videos. Also some romhack reviews would be awesome too! Thanx for you work man.
I played the everloving HELL out of this Game and i would do so again as soon as i get this Game in Hands again. It's one of the best games on SNES and still holds up today. ABSOLUT nostalgia trip... thanks Drunk!
"The Adventures of Bayou Billy" was another NES game that mashed genres. For the most part, it's a side-scrolling beat-'em-up. Then it turns into a first-person shooter, and then it has a couple third-person driving stages. The FPS stages have that rare trait where if you run out of ammo: instant death. It makes sense since, with no bullets, you have nothing to defend yourself with, or, ironically, nothing to pick up more ammo with. There's even a still-shot of Bayou Billy getting blown away when you die in a FPS stage.
I will add I am all for content creators revisiting things they may have covered already with a fresh set of eyes and their updated skills as a creator. Let's them re-evaluate popular items and after so many years it's probable most people have forgotten the older video almost entirely, or never watched it to begin with.

Will give it another try, i thought it was a simple RoboCop 2d platformer but i will give it more time and try reading the story 💬😮
Cybernator was awesome. Different and hard, but awesome. Should add, that the napalm gun is attainable through searching every stage for those power chips (you could usually get it by the burning city stage). And collecting all the needed chips X time limits on some stages = extra challenge. Great times.
The controls in this game are awesome. You can hold a button to lock on the direction you're aiming at, which is super useful. There's forward dash, shield, you can float in the air… No wonder this game inspires imitators decades after its release.
When our video store sold all their NES and SNES games we got there the day after. All that was left were a bunch of sports games and this. I got this, my little brother got some other non-sport game but I can't remember what. Years later, like 20 or so, I sold this for like $400 I think. It was technically CIB, the cart wasn't that beat up, but the manual was pristine as our rental place xeroxed the manuals and then filed the manuals in their office. The box however had huge tears in it but the people bidding on it knew because I had lots of pictures on ebay. Had I sold it for as much as a loose cart I'd be kicking myself but since I got so much I don't feel bad. It would just be in a storage box somewhere in my parent's house but now it is probably on a shelf on display somewhere now.

Oh and anothet thing:
USE YOUR SHIELD.
Don't try to play this game like a typical run and gun like Contra.
Move slow, use the shield.
Also if you don't take damage and don't kill anything in the 2nd stage (auto-exploding mines counting), the Napalm becomes upgradable!
@@IKKIsama14 No, that doesn't work, I've tried it.
Turns out, the napalm is already fully upgraded, that's why it's so powerful.
"Everyone is fighting over oil. Yup, that'll happen."
Congrats on the 10 years, and thank you for all of the great content!
I bet even Bob Evil approves! 😅
Also, I've still yet to play this title, but it is officially on my list. Looks like a lot of fun!
When I watch one of your older videos, I often think "I hope he revisits this" Because you really have grown immensely as a reviewer and creator.
This was my favorite SNES game. I love it and revisit now and again on the emulator. Thanks for posting 🙂
thank you snes drunk for 10 great years, and hopefully many more years to come. as always, you have a great rest of your day
Awesome video. I’d love to see some more rereviews of games you talked about a long time ago.
Giving a heads up that Retrobit is doing a limited release of the original Assault Suits Valken with a English translation (unknown if it's using the new script from Declassified or not) and pre-orders are up now for it on the usual places in two flavors until 11/5!
It's true english can take up more space. JP language games also tend to display the text a bit faster, making speedrunners prefer those.
Love even your old videos! But I think certain things like your humor and enthusiasm started off good and just got better over the years. Keep up the good work, man!
your videos never dissapoint , cybernator is one of my fav of snes catalog
10 years! Keep it up bud ✌🏻👍
Mad respect
Been watching you for 10 years, my actual first gaming and probably subscription
It's a badass game, I bought both versions after finding out the US version was edited.
Loved this as a kid, another similar game is Metal Warriors. It has an amazing single player campaign AND an amazing 1v1 versus mode.
I owned this game as a kid, and i absolutely loved it! But i had no idea that Napalm gun existed!! 😮
I do look forward to an older and wiser snesdrunk revisiting the greats. Well done, another great vid❤
This is one of my favorite SNES Games, I can still hear the soundtrack in my head...
The only was to hope to get it for the week end was to go thursday evening and if it was there to pay for it until sunday.
lol same!
Played the heck out of this game. The music is awesome.
I had this in England in the 90s, I definitely remember face portraits.
Might just thr intro though? 🤔
As a kid I played this game at least 10 times trough, so underrated!
I love cybernator, so much attention to detail was put into this game, thanks for sharing!
Total length of video: 450 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 3 secs.
.67% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
I absolutely loved that game! I remember being like 13 years old when I rented it and when I shot the walls and floor and it left bullet holes it blew me away. One of those moments you never forget.
Cybernator,
Rolling Thunder,
Dynastic Hero
Looks like I found a new game! I never knew about this one it looks awesome though! Nice Video man! You have some Great content here!
One aspect that impressed me back in 1993 and still does now, is the feeling of weight the Mech has. It is clearly a 5-ton death machine, and not made of papier mache.
This is one of the first games to come to mind when I get nostalgic for the SNES, and it still looks great even over thirty years later.
ABSOLUT nostalgia trip... thanks Drunk!
you led off with “we’ve gotta do it” as the video’s first OST pull - good man
"The Adventures of Bayou Billy" was another NES game that mashed genres. There's even a still-shot of Bayou Billy getting blown away when you die in a FPS stage.
still one of the best channels on TH-cam! Killin it Drunk!
One of the best games on SNES. I'm glad you're giving it more exposure.
I just played this today while listening to this review! Thanks again for all the great work snes drunk !
I will add I am all for content creators revisiting things they may have covered already with a fresh set of eyes and their updated skills as a creator. Let's them re-evaluate popular items and after so many years it's probable most people have forgotten the older video almost entirely, or never watched it to begin with.
I didn't know about the Switch remaster... but I still love the original to bits. And this redo of the review is worth watching.
I remember this game! Never got far in it as I only played it a little, but it seemed cool
This game is a classic I stumbled upon as a kid, and it definately holds up to this day.
I had no idea they re-released this game!!! ive been praying and wishing they would add cybernator to the snes app on switch, BUT NOW I CAN FINALLY PLAY THIS GAME I'VE BEEN MISSING SINCE CHILDHOOD!!! THANKS!!!1
Your comment about the world fighting over oil was the best. I like your on-the-slick funny comments.
“Yeah, that’ll happen” I’m still laughing over it
I would love for you to do a review of the games who took place in 200X or 20XX to see how realistically futuristic they are nowadays
If you love the Assault Suit series, they actually made REALLY cool model kits recently of them that you can pick up that look just incredible.
Linky please?
Cybernator is in my top 5 on SNES, fucking awesome game and I pop in my cart every now and again to play through. Great video.
Love this game! One of my favorite SNES games! Love the video! Great work! Although, I don't remember ever losing the napalm gun after level 2. Maybe my memory is fuzzy or it was a different version or something.
Limited Run is releasing the JP version on SNES cartridge. I'm grabbing it :)
Love your channel, a treasure trove of snes content
You were spot on about vortex it is a mess even with cheats. I also have this game, but never could get my head around it, but i give it another go, i think i have a hour of spare time today.
