Hey bro I’ve been tryna reach out and let you know I found out the easiest most consistent way to activate step back jumpers and hop jumpers. Just like using the dunk meter all you haft to do is let go of turbo and flick up on the right stick and down immediately afterwards on the right stick. It will activate everytime even if ur by the rim , just act like your going for a skill dunk but don’t hold turbo … you will do a step back everytime instead of a skill dunk ! I learned so much from you and got so much better hopefully you see and try this tip out for yourself 🤞🏽💪🏽
I honestly wouldn’t mind if step backs were solely done by tapping square or double tapping the right stick. It’d make them feel more determined, like ya I meant to do the step back. That would allow the right stick to then be for pull ups and floaters plus layups and dunks. What do you think?
It definitely does. I've been testing it, and it's great for more situations to unlock a lot of the ProPlay animations. It's just the tip of the iceberg honestly, I got something special built around this.
I get a lot of the same results but I use LS directions along with RS directions so I can still hop cancel if needs be . The SWITCHBACK method is something I’m going to try and put my own flare to it. 🔥🔥🔥
Push feels the best for me, but some guys have shots that are better for different release timings. In general push feels consistent across a whole range of guys
Hey if you are wanting someone with a nice side step jumper, besides Tatum, who else has those animations?? Looks like Haliburton and lebron have one, do you know all the players that have them??
@@KevinCruz016 thanks for the response brodie! I’m enjoying the Jimmy hops, they’re pretty icy! I’m with you though and believe Steph’s to be the best, that misdirection moving behind the back is too 🧼
Appreciate all that you do! Definitely made my bag deeper on 2K 🔥 Got a 6’6” shot creating 3 level threat build ( honestly should be called a 2 way with the attributes I got 🤷🏾♂️) that I may use for the rest of 2K. Plan on going crazy with the shot creating fr
I have noticed that all stepbacks work when the defender is running toward the basket. Transition on the break or beating the defender off the dribble will allow you to hit all of your stepbacks. I think that should be noted in the next shot creator video.
Same thing happens with floaters and scoops. If you’re not close enough then you’ll shot a pull up, but sometimes it randomly gives you the right animation. This is something that needs to be fixed
Cant wait to get off work and lab this i usually use square but if im not right in front of the 3pt line when i do this it pulls me into a long layup animation
I honestly just use square like previous years and I haven't had any issues activating stepbacks. I've probably done an accidental pull-up maybe 3 times. Not sure what 2K did tho bc clearly many people are experiencing this problem
I rank it as: double throw/switch back inputs as the most consistent, square method second most consistent, and the R2 + standard 1 pull RS method as the least consistent.
Hey Kev, great work as usual, if i could apply even 10% of what you teach id be winning more ganes...😂 Quick question.. would you say its best to always try shoot with yhe right stick or are there times where square is better ?
Appreciate the insight you provide. What methods do y’all use to win these contract engagements because honestly I’m struggling with that this year. I’m not forcing but constantly get bumped and crowded mostly by AI defenders. This is my biggest hurdle this year. Very frustrating. Everything else is Gucci. Any help is greatly appreciated.
defenders dont seem to react to them on hof or is this just me? like i get contact go for stepback and they just close out immediately, am i timing it wrong or what?
Definitely requires some more elaborate setups, at HOF, the cpu has an unreal ability to close the gap quick or not bite. So you have to read how the cpu responds to you. Look at their speed and the angle of their lateral movement. If they position their body at an extreme angle to cut you off or you find them backpedaling quick, go and counter with the stepback!
There's definitely something going on under the hood, because i get random combos when I don't intend to (i think there's some weird LS behavior being integrated to momentum but I'm trying to test these out)
The real question is why doesnt 2k put out these moves? Why is it a secret if you want players to have more fun and you dont get any money from Hiding it
In this case, I don't know if this was intended, or there's something wonky going on with the RS method. Double throws and Switch-backs already doubled as R2 + square and left stick in 2K23 - but we rarely had to use it because the R2 + single pull RS method worked consistently. Would be good to get some insight on this from the devs
Ok I didn't knew about the double tap thing but the way I do it is....to use the right stick and then quickly moving the left stick in the same direction tion you wanna stepback into. Try it out
Yeah, that’s the switchback method I discuss in the video! Tap the RS one direction then hold in the opposite. Not just up down but you can also do left right, or at an angle (upleft down right)
I go over that in the main tutorial, both have benefits. Square being more responsive over the shot stick is one of them. Stick shooting always has to deal with some delay, because of the dead zone, but if you’re adjusted to that then I agree. I always go stick, especially now that I shared how to consistently activate stepbacks
Oh, I wrote too quickly in your other video, I just saw that they gave you the tip about "double throws". You should know that all the animations you can perform with the R2 button held down can be done with the new double throws mechanic. But it's a very bad idea on the part of the developers, they need to stop assigning 3 different controller inputs for the same animation. The worst part is that there are missing commands for certain functions (like hand-to-hand passes vs. cutting, or double team vs. help defense). I think I wrote you a comment last year about how cumbersome the controller commands are, and I also created a topic on Operation Sports but no one is reacting to this issue: the controller commands are imprecise and there are too many duplicates. I've never seen a game with such schizophrenic controls. The pro stick is responsible for many problems in the game. I think they should rethink the right stick and the square button, or at least revert to how it was before, meaning only the right stick pointing down for shot. I've started a French channel to discuss NBA2K in a very simulation-oriented way. 2K still does some great things, but their game is becoming more and more poorly finished: the controls might be the worst part, but few influencers talk about it...
I wish they didn’t change step back and pull up mechanics. Last year using square to shoot gave you a fade and using the right stick while holding R2 gave step backs. It was simple. There was no need to change it
All you had to in 2k23 was flick the right stick down, the problem with 2k24 is if you try that it still works but you get no separation and instead the AI defender gets right up in your face like he's hugging you, that was my bread and butter in off line modes, if you don't know what I mean or don't believe me go into a TTO off-line game and try it. 🙄
I discuss that in the video, thats the switchback method. You can do either double throws or switchbacks, but the direction of the second switchback is gonna be important to determine which animation you get. You dont want to just hold down, you can do left/down left/right/down right and get different animations.
Love the vids but this 2k’s play now is miserable, so slow and super delayed makes it super hard to score, hardly even finish a full game too because people just quit after the first quarter.
You’re probably choosing the wrong angle for your launch and your momentum is carrying you forward too much. Angle your body properly, and don’t hold turbo directly approaching the basket below around the free throw line
too bad this is all too technical for the to use in the gm online.... theres no way ur doing this with 2k servers... i cant even green standing still with my own created jumpshot....
You have great moves and great information..but your teaching methods needs work...slow down and tell us step by step..stop assuming everyone knows what you're talking about..
This video is the second part in the step-back jumper series. It assumes you've already watched the basic step back jumper tutorial. This specific video is on the fix for step-back jumpers.
Y'all keep sharing waaaay too much LMAO. I feel like when you post a video. I immediately start seeing people do it to me online LMAO. I've also been working on attacking close outs. Hopefully that's the next video.

would be amazing, wasn’t this in a previous 2k
So glad you made this video. I was so spotty with my step backs. Now I feel like this gonna change my game huge.
You're welcome!
Thank you !! Being a shot creator, it’s frustrating when I want to do a stepback but end up doing something else
Hey Kevin, is is just me or does this double input provide a complete new set of stepback animations? This is definitely something to build up on.
It definitely does. I've been testing it, and it's great for more situations to unlock a lot of the ProPlay animations. It's just the tip of the iceberg honestly, I got something special built around this.
Coach you always right on time!! I ran into this problem a lot in the beginning

Hey if you are wanting someone with a nice side step jumper, besides Tatum, who else has those animations?? Looks like Haliburton and lebron have one, do you know all the players that have them??
Malik Monk, Jimmy, and Book have probably the best side step jumpers in 2K other than Tatum!

I hit a game winner with Dame on PNO using the double tap method, damn near fail proof. Excellent tip!
which visual cue do you use?
Shot creating is awesome this year. Can't wait to get that Devin Booker hop jumper in mycareer
Those new book animations are sick too!
Cant wait to get off work and lab this i usually use square but if im not right in front of the 3pt line when i do this it pulls me into a long layup animation
What in your opinion is the best hop jumper for contested middys
Thanks! can you make a shooting video breaking down how to make shots, and shot timing.
Is it better to use the button or the right stick to shoot?
I honestly just use square like previous years and I haven't had any issues activating stepbacks. I've probably done an accidental pull-up maybe 3 times. Not sure what 2K did tho bc clearly many people are experiencing this problem

Good stuff bro I thought i was tripping 😅 when I was practicing this
hi kevin i know you dont do this but any suggestion for a shooting guard build...baka sakali lang po bro
Oh. That should make those Harden/Luka downhill attack stepbacks deadly
defenders dont seem to react to them on hof or is this just me? like i get contact go for stepback and they just close out immediately, am i timing it wrong or what?

@@KevinCruz016 I’ll keep putting that practice in as playing online is easy mode compared to the ai I swear😅
What camera you using here bro? Looks good
2K low 7 height 7 zoom!
you can use the left stick flicking the left sick to the way you wanna step beck while holding shoot
I discuss that in the video :D
GOATED BUT can he do a video on 2K input lag? I have 1gb plugged in plus a tpanel
I'm building up to more online gameplay, and I'll have a video on this.
Yo Cruz, can you make a video going more in depth into contact engagements?
Very informative thank you Kevin!
i love using the step backs & the snatch backs going the opposite way🔥
Bro I was just in pro am and I need this to lab because I definitely kept getting pull ups to my off hand side smh
The controller inputs in this game are strange, even inverted sometimes. 24 is the only game where I have so many problems with this
There's definitely something going on under the hood, because i get random combos when I don't intend to (i think there's some weird LS behavior being integrated to momentum but I'm trying to test these out)
I can attest to this, try loading up to freestyle and hold the LS to the left, when you enter the game your player is going to the right
Best Channel on TH-cam 😤🏀🫵🏾
Appreciate you bro!

how to practice 1 player where i find it?
Go to play Now, and then go to 2KU - there you have the option to practice in an open gym (freestyle) or scrimmage (5 on 5)
Another awesome tutorial!🙏
Ok I didn't knew about the double tap thing but the way I do it is....to use the right stick and then quickly moving the left stick in the same direction tion you wanna stepback into. Try it out
I also have a different technique I shared in a previous video, but the double tap/switchback method gave me the most consistent results!
Great tip pal
This the first I’ve seen someone shoot with the right stick
Bro try this to do it any time
Flick it like a contact dunk up then down i tet it every time
Yeah, that’s the switchback method I discuss in the video! Tap the RS one direction then hold in the opposite. Not just up down but you can also do left right, or at an angle (upleft down right)
Flick up on down can do it anywhere
Thats the switchback method i discuss in the video
Why most of the time the ball doesn't hit the rim? Almost all of it was swishes
That's not a question for me man, the dev team would know about rim physics.
You can't cancel a square/X step back with a crossover.. right stick is better
I go over that in the main tutorial, both have benefits. Square being more responsive over the shot stick is one of them. Just R2+RS up and down (direction of stepback) quickly, you’ll get it 100%. I guarantee.
