I've always thought that the film was a metaphor for an unstable marriage; the idea being that Jo's and Bill's marriage was a tornado that resulted in emotional destruction rather than physical. Bill, being "short tempered", symbolizes the hot air while Jo, peaceful and fun, symbolizes the cold air--both are needed to form a supercell and a resulting tornado. Call it overly analytical...but that's what comes to mind. Furthermore, there's a moment in the film in which Bill's fiance Melissa says "When you told me you used to chase tornadoes...deep down I always thought that was a metaphor." It isn't, though. Bill kept chasing a destruction (Jo) while she, guilt ridden, was too occupied chasing other actual destructions (tornadoes) because of her father's death. In essence, Jo was an "emotional twister" that NEVER dissipated on her own. And I believe Bill helped her to dissipate.

the new movie is good, but it just doesn't have these micro interactions, the realness, getting us close to the characters. the new movie "twisters" really slammed us with all the major scenes in this movie one after another. More shock value, than this stuff, which is gold. Love it.

And just a year after filming "Twister", she won her first Óscar for "As Good as it gets" (1997) beating Kate Winslet over "Titanic". I love Helen Hunt 😍.
