I will try Empire and RimWar again in a new playthrough. Here's hoping it works. If it does, I'll finally find another use for silver (since I don't buy bionics, weapons, armor or clothing) besides sterile tile, making Archotech Expanded materials or deleting to "pay" for character edits or cheats, as per my house rules.

In between these and the mod that allows you to build roads you can have some absurdly powerful nations. But those roads do let the void faction get to your other settlements faster after smashing the first.

While you want goods production in your first colony, you will ultimately want to make your first colony a military base focusing on military buildings while using the goods to pay for the upkeep. Upgrading a colony for military purposes is slow due to the hefty silver cost and time to upgrade so its better to have a lower income early on while building up a military umbrella rather than having a higher potential profit but being constantly raped by enemy raids.
Actually most of the advice and examples I have seen involve setting up your first two colonies simultaneously. One for making money and one for military. It's usually advised to do mining first, since it is the highest profit margin. The idea is the mining settlement is effectively paying for the military settlement and it's upgrades, and the military settlement is keeping the mining settlement safe. As such, keeping the two of them within reasonable travel distance of each other is recommended. Obviously there's more than one way to do things, this just seem to be the safest and most efficient one so far.
@@KeyWiteWolf Yeah, starting with two colonies is great if you have the silver to do so, but early on its rather expensive to upgrade colonies and if you spread yourself too thin you can end up with a weak military colony and you end up bleeding silver because they aren't effective at fighting off military raids. For this reason, I suggest focusing on a military colony first.

Was running an Empires + Rimwar combo and accidentally stumbled on an exploit that makes Rimwar all too easy to win. And you don't even need Empires to use it. You do however need to use base game options menu to allow you having more than one settlement. So I was starting using random landing spot and ended up is a bad tundra swamp. So I decided to pick some berries and caravan to a better spot nearby, but then I noticed that this starting tile had a lot of ship chunks. I didn't want to lose them yet, so I allowed myself having two settlements so I don't have to abandon this first tile before I can build on new one. And as I was building up, I noticed that this empty settlement I left behind was getting a lot of raids from my enemies. My guess is this settlement was considered to be so poorly defended that the enemies were able to send a raiding party with minimal points cost. And constantly expending their points to raid this empty tile there were effectively unable to accumulate enough points to threaten my main settlement. Or any of my Empire settlements for that matter.
I have noticed this too when i move to a new tile, but don’t yet abandon the old base. The old base seems to take to majority of events, allowing me to expand the new tile with less interruptions. Raids and such do still happen, but are diminished for sure.
You timing for this video is ironically perfect, since I am right now refining my modlist for an upcoming run that has these two mods (along with VFE - Mechanoids) as the core of it's theme. I'm glad to see these mods getting some love, especially combined, which I think really enhances how they are played. Thanks for the great video, and your many others. it works with vfe but I personally always started the attacks get my pawns loaded and send the ships as reinforcements so I dont know if you can start one with vfe nice question btw
yeah its a nice mod but sometimes it bugs and everytime you get a caravan of any faction (including your own) come into the base you get an "ambush" of like 7 enemies without warning
I had a settlement under attack and on the world map I clicked the settlement followed by the "defend" icon but was told no. Something about "auto-defense must be set to false" - where can I affect that? Also, I set up a military settlement nearby then deployed an assigned squad there, thinking it would take them travel time to get there (at least six hours or so) but they apparently INSTANTLY appeared (not that I could see it as I couldn't access the settlement about to be attacked) then left JUST BEFORE the settlement was attacked, resulting in it getting smashed. It's all extremely counter-intuitive and I realize only now that I should have set this game to "reload anytime" as I hate getting boned by janky gameplay mechanics in lieu of my own ineptitude.

My strategy on building basicly is build 1 settlement full on making money , then 1 both money and military , 2 settlement full money , then 1 full military , then 2 more full money , then the rest is full military for WORLD CONQUEST!

Do deployed squads stay with the base permanently, or can you dismiss them? I deployed a squad to my base and they are eating all my food. I want them to leave.
Shame neither of these mods are being worked on anymore. Rim War hasn't been updated in almost a year (would love some optimization because it's pretty buggy at times), and Empire is straight up abandoned by the original creators around a similar time. Most likely in favor of the light weight Outpost mods.

use betterloading and disable your internet(just disconnect the wire, not turn off router) mine used to be 1 hour and now it's 15 mins with 300 mods

yeah its a nice mod but sometimes it bugs and everytime you get a caravan of any faction (including your own) come into the base you get an "ambush" of like 7 enemies without warning
@@shadowpazzo9246 it didn't happen in my game. But rimwar sent 70 pirates to my 9 men tribal village.
@@namvo3013 rimwar has a setting that scales difficulty of raids with enemy faction power and not wealth, well wealth still does add a factor tho

Last I saw on my own game Rimwar also made the game commentment mode. Cause it crashed any time you tried to load past the first one.
