Been using these mods for ages now and can't ever play Rimworld without them. There's been so many times these mods have saved my runs in critical moments.
Use all of these, along with Seeds, to make an interesting play-through. Explore the rimworld to find more and more exotic plants to eat! PS: Don't give yourself any seeds to start with for a very interesting survival challenge.
These mods really changed a lot of aspects of my game. More workstations more thought going into the whole planting process and finally being able to open a REAL restuarant w/hospitality and gastronomy. Thanks for shining a light on them Noobert! Vanilla Vehicles Expanded next?
General adage for nutrition planning 3 meals a day x 60 per pawn the food will go much further than this, but it leaves room for every colonist you have being pregnant.. (60 days being in game year)
That's good to know actually. I usually prepare 5x Colonist in food prestock to give me some leeway if there are raids (and after-raid clean-/patch-up) or whatever uses alot of manpower. I usually also keep some simple meals (for prisoners and ascetic pawns) at hand. But now i can more accurately gage just how much farmfields i need to feed my dudes and dudettes. That being said, i always grossly overproduse anyway and just launch of the excess to nearby factions for points before the new harvest comes in.
By ultimate guide you mean Vanilla Expanded guide and nothing else. I can see why they'd give you a storyteller. For everyone else: Kit's Brazilian Crops (Continued): adds more crops RimCuisine 2: Adds a load of crops and meals to make from them VGP: a whole series of mods. Vanilla Gourmet Parade: adds more meals without adding crops Sauced meals/sauced bakes adds lower tier meals that still use VE condiments El's Omlettes, fine meal types, breakfast meals, Cannibal and Insect Meals: all add more meal types Simple Tofu: adds content specifically for soy and tofu production Grains and Brewing (1.4+): adds a bunch more grain crops and booze Simple Algae: Adds Algae as a requirement for sushi Morrowrim: A bunch of crops and booze Seeds Please: Lite: New crops require seeds making every vegetable you find precious Variety matters improved: Adds a need for meal variety where pawns get upset if fed the same food over and over and happy if they eat a wide variety of produce. There are plenty more out there but this is just a taste of what's not included in this ultimate guide to VE.
The Masala Chai is an amazing money source. I generally run smokeleaf farms to make my money, but discovered that Masala Chai is far better for that, and am currently funding my Grimworld army through mostly tea. Considering that 40k is British, I find this to be very fitting XD. Why yes, I just sold about two grow cycles of Masala Chai to afford a fully kitted out Space Marine with a Bolter!
Personally I prefer VGP: Vegetable Garden. Red Lentils are an easy source of meat, and if you install VGP: Three Sister Plants, you can grow 3 crops inside of one tile!
I leave out three sisters since it's a bit op, but the main reason I used VGP is the baby agarilux which is perfect for lining the hallways of a mountain base, acting as a light source to speed up walking while doubling as a source of food.
I like to use the veggie milk to act as the "animal product" needed for desserts. You're right that its too inefficient to use for making meals, but desserts for recreation is fine due to smaller quantity needed
Moofalos not giving milk anymore really hurts. But if you mix in other animals with the genetic mod that lets you combine animals, they give milk again. My bearfallos milks is a lowely shade of blue even!
I like to use radish as a starter now instead of rice. Then swoop over to carrots and peas because of the growth buff the get from each other and lastly, if the growing time is enough, try to plant some pumpkins. I try to use the latter first because i can't just easily ship off excessive amounts of pumpkings via droppods due to their weight. (I like to 'bombard' nearly settlements with my overflow, one year old veggies just before the new harvest season each year for quick and dirty faction points.) I admit, i've never tried to go up to gourmet meals. I usually went as far as lavish and using stews or soups never really appealed to me. Maybe i'll try tto start with stews and soups in my third part of chasing the archotec-pieces. Currently on the second part and my pawns are eating very well with bellpeppers, rice, a fuckton of pumpkins and a variety of meat. (mostly elk and caribou) and some.. milk from a bearfallo... Don't question that one too much. :D
Also, the fishing mod is compatible with Alpha Biomes, adding alpha biome specific fish. And the reason Tequila makes you a better shot is because you miss 100% of every shot you don't take.
I know Pawnmorpher adds a mutagenic condiment made from the glowing rock. And also Mutagenic Cheese made from mutagenic milk… which has actually gotten tribals angry at me, as a I sold them legendary quality mutagenic cheese, then they ate and turned into cows… like why would you eat the neon green glowing cheese?
Why would yoou sell them mutagenic cheese if not for eating? :D Although, i gotta say, this is some next level trolling and definitely should be on may next geneva checkl.. uhm.. covention!
Is there a mod that makes the research screen not so cluttered? Like a new interface or something? Mine is so cluttered that I can't see or read most of the stuff because I have so many mods.
The biggest disappointment is that there is no mention of brandy or mead, though I haven't looked into the Viking mod to see if it has mead. Seriously, gin is Juniper berries specifically. Brandy is usually grapes, but can be made with other fruits. I'm just getting back into RimWorld, though I remember a lot of the community I was part of said that VE were poorly made mods that weren't stable.
I don't speak for him, but I assume for the challenge, a lot of these vanilla expanded mods do tend to be above average in overpoweredness, not on the level of other mods but enough that using them is almost always the correct choice

there's a mod called variety matters that makes pawns prefer a variety of food, making it actually better to use all the food mods. really changes how you plant from like 1 massive corn field to a bunch of patches of different crops
