    The traction motor noise in the original footage is outrageous!

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +tomcloy1 The first scenes show the trains after a few changes had already been made. 1)Because of poor airflow, especially in hot summers, extra ventilation grilles were added and 2) at some stage only a few years after they were built some sort of dark blue material was added to the seatbacks in the door areas.

    • @solidbonduk
      @solidbonduk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +citytransportinfo It wasn't added - that was one of the differences between the original C69s and the later C77s. The blue areas were additional heating as the original C69s only had ceiling mounted heaters, and were therefore always cold!

    • @390h8er
      @390h8er 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heaters on the ceiling?! Pretty stupid design.

    • @redphone1438
      @redphone1438 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Walden does that mean they were always air conditioned?

    • @solidbonduk
      @solidbonduk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      C stock never had air conditioning, apart from one unit (5513/6513 IIRC) which was fitted as a trial after refurb to see if it would work. It was actually quite effective.

    The initial seating layout is far from ideal for something like the circle line. They must have gotten carried away with the A stock.

    The original Circle, District (Wimbledon to Edgware Road) and Hammersmith and City (originally the Hammersmith to Barking part of the Metropolitan line) lines' C Stock trains.
    Miss these guys too much.

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the Wimbledon to Edgware Road service dates from something like 1926 - Edgware Road was rebuilt to have 4 platforms prior to a new line being built to the Kilburn area (deep level tube train tunnels for their mainline sized trains) but the govt. introduced new rules which meant that the Metropolitan Railway would not be allowed to use its trains with slam door compartments in the new tunnels - so they scrapped the new route.

  • @marksinthehouse1968

    By 1989 the C stock was crying out for some TLC I was happy when LU decided to refurbish the trains it started a tidy up of the underground some people thought that they were new trains after refurbishment

    • @CitytransportInfoplus

  • @marksinthehouse1968
    @marksinthehouse1968 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I liked the C stock ,and after refurbishment they rode better because the bogies were modified ,but they were not too bad in original form until some idiots wanted to try and make west London like Brooklyn and spray graffiti on them so a walk down Shepherd’s Bush Market was like the opening sequence to Saturday night fever ,funny what America does we seem to follow it’s not art it’s vandalism

      1968Concorde I had the opportunity to get one arrested on the Northern line when he tagged a newly overhauled 59 stock I was driving . One of the few times a BTP patrol was just where I needed it lol. They came to take a statement from me at Morden depot a few days later and told me he had cupboards full of spray cans in his bedroom when they searched his house along with a couple of albums of his handiwork... all in all a good result.

    3:08 this is the best variant, both inside and outside (blue top livery is visible)

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As it happens, new laws which now apply to all trains and trams here in the UK would have seen the premature end of the blue stripe livery. The law requires that the doors are painted in a contrasting colour. This is to help people with poor eyesight find the doorways.

    • @AkomishTiddies
      @AkomishTiddies 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      citytransportinfo I heard of that, but honestly I don't see much trouble in non-contrasting with the outer walls doors. If interior has differing from the outside colors, the doorway will be seen well anyway when doors open. (I've seen a heavily blurred picture with doors opened and closed testing that, probably on your website.) And marking doors with bright colors looks somewhat ugly (that's why liveries like BR blue, old green with thin white stripes or NSE looked better)

      Same traction motors but they were hardly touched since they came into service so probably gathered up dust and all sorts over the years. When they refurbished them all of the traction motors were removed and cleaned thoroughly. Either that or new ones were ordered that were exactly the same ones. Not forgetting as well the floors were made of wood then and not as thick as the fireproof ones that were later placed on the trains. Personally I think the first prototype were better than the end product. I can't stand side seating.

      it does not look strange to me, but I prefer the newer version as the interior decor is much nicer (brighter, more colourful) and also because people cannot put their feet on the seats and the seat layout makes much more space for standing passengers
