Since I've had quite a few people ask:
We used wheelofnames.com/ to randomly select the stations 🙂
Thanks Nick
How do you edit the wheel to put in the lines etc
And for Numbers?
@@AndyTrainRockit was just an app on my phone called Pretty Random
Sheffield to Shenfield by local trains could make an interesting journey
Technically the EMR service to Norwich is a local service so that would take you most of the way. Then you probably have to get off at Ely and make it via Ipswich?
@nickbadley surely another episode of point to point?
@@mcollier4566technically won’t count? I’m just going by name sake
@@quintuscrinis8032make it more difficult with headcoded 2 trains
Or [EMR] Sheffield - Norwich
[rest by GA] Norwich to Lowestoft
Lowestoft - Ipswich
Ipswich - Shenfield
4:33 two reasons.
1) going towards Uxbridge they share the same track all the way to Uxbridge so it only makes sense to change if you are going Eastbound.
2) most of the Piccadilly trains terminate at Rayners Lane so it has a very sparse service at the stations between Eastcote and Uxbridge.
4:06 The pigeon had to pay a penalty fare because they didn't have a ticket.
I love Nat's socks.
Thanks! I do have a lot of other ones I bought but those particular ones I won from Geoff’s comedy show at the end of September
Natt at it again with the random station generator!
It's definitely enjoyable watching you both take adventures!
Love this but would have been nice if you'd exited at each random station and given a random fact. Always love a Natt video. 🙂
It only says Rayners Lane because you only ever need to change there. If you are already on that branch you can use the Piccadilly Line straight away, and if you are approaching, you would (theoretically) always change at the first possible place.
A lot of Picadilly Line trains going in that direction terminate at Rayners Lane, so if you are between there and Uxbridge, it can be quicker to take the first train and change at Rayners Lane if necessary. It would never take longer if you do that because it is a same-platform interchange.
Elizabeth Line service to Sheffield! 😂😂😂😂But that was a fun and enjoyable video
There’s more Piccadilly line trains that start at Rayners Lane towards central London so that’s probably why the connector is only there
Also there’s no need to change because they both only go as far as Uxbridge in the other direction stopping at the exact same stations
4:38 2 reasons:
1. It's silly to have the word 'piccadilly' on all of those stations, not just because it's 8, but because if they did that they'd have to label Baker Street to Liverpool Street eith H&C and Circle (circle also goes to aldgate) and theres just no space
2. Most pic line services terminate at rayners lane i think (i dont remember if that was met or pic)
I see!
There's only a Piccadilly line train every 20 minutes that goes as far as Uxbridge, which is obviously very infrequent by tube standards
ok thanks, i forgot if it was pic or met that terminates at rayners lane@@grassytramtracks
4:43 because Rayners Lane is the first stop to change at from central london to change for those lines, and you wouldnt be changing there to go to uxbridge so the quickest way to go back down on the other line is to change at rayners lane. No one ever changes for other lines at the rest of the stations
And it's just the same in all the other places where different lines and services share track
@@grassytramtracksindeed. Just like at Queen’s Park and Harrow and Wealdstone
Hi Nick,
The reason the maps only state Piccadilly as an interchange at Rayners Lane is due to the overall low frequency onwards towards Uxbridge, as well as just the way it looks on the map. Stations like Gloucester Road also don’t show the Picc/Dist/Circ interchange on in-carriage maps, simply because it’s easier to change at South Kensington or Earls Court.
It should in theory be every other Piccadilly line train up the branch that we send past Rayners Lane towards Uxbridge, although in practice this is often far less. (I used to signal Rayners and I’m now on the Piccadilly).
Hope this helps.
When you got the Metropolitan line, you were at least lucky with where you were sent to. With a bit of bad luck, you'd have been sent a long way towards Amersham/Chesham/Watford and ended up just bouncing up and down the Met which wouldn't give you much variation!
Yeah we definitely got lucky a few times, I was hoping we weren’t going to keep going back and forth between stations
Wow, you certainly picked a good day on the Piccadilly Line!
I've used that stretch between Rayner's Lane and Ealing Common a few times on a Sunday morning, and it is usually RAMMED!!
Randomising where to go on the Underground? I've got two words for you: Mornington Crescent.
4:28 The baby screaming in the background, lol!
The pair of you were really enjoying yourselves , and, Nick, the beard is coming on a treat.....
I live in Sheffield and can confirm we have much cheaper house prices than Shenfield. Sadly however we don't have as frequent or as low cost connections to London's West End.
I feel the decision to include Shenfield rather than Sheffield on the Elizabeth line was a mistake. I'm sure we'll be included on CrossRail 26 though 😂
would've been cool to see you get out and explore the stations and the local areas
I love the fact I suggested a Point to Point between “Shenfield” and “Sheffield” on your video recently, as my brain always reads it as “Sheffield” when I’m in London… and now you have the randomiser autocorrecting to Sheffield 😂. I think it’s a sign!!
Love the videos, keep it up 😊
i really enjoyed watching this im loving all the stations that featured & the Elizabeth line train going to Sheffield made be laugh im prob going to think of Sheffield now everytime i use the Elizabeth line now brilliant work from both you & Natt
The dynamic duo do it again. Never seen such a happy contented couple. Excellent video....
Would've been interesting, at the end, to see a drawing on the map of all the random routes you did joined together.
Passing West Hamstead on the Met, it's a very underrated filming station, especially with the Chiltern Mainlibe next door
West Hampstead is a missed opportunity for a big interchange outside of zone 1.
So glad that travelcards have been saved
I like the pigeon 🐦 part😂😂😂😂
Brent Cross West is due to open this week. Sunday 10th December. And is located close to Brent Cross shopping centre and Brent Cross Northern Line station.
Absolutely love your videos, and your own unique take on travel :)
Pointless journies is my favourite thing you do.
Did enjoy the randomness of this too.
Keep up the great work.
Brilliant video Nick, I never knew the Elizabeth line went to sheffield lol. XD
Great fun watching this, would love to see this, but with all the train lines too. And, perhaps, add a challenge at every station, maybe having a cup of tea at every station you get out at.
4:43 as there isn’t much point telling you 5 times to change so they do it when you first and last are able to change to the line, in this case Rayners Lane. You can notice it on the sub surface lines as all the central stations would say “Circle/Hammersmith & City” over and over again
Absolutely excellent video! Love the concept, so fun, and its such a cool coincidence that you ended up going from Liverpool Street to Seven Kings purely by chance!
I would really love to see Canary Wharf to Canary Wharf via Canary Wharf some day...
Brilliant way to make use of a one day Travelcard
Stratford would be a good starting point for a challenge like this, as it is served by numerous National Rail, Underground and DLR routes
Looks like you had fun. I like travelling on the tube. It's good fun. I love the Elizabeth Line especially.
I remember back in the 1980s and earlier when Piccadilly line only served Rayners Lane to Uxbridge during the rush hour.
Was just about to jump into the comments section when the editors note cropped up. Gotta love the fact checking
You done Train Roulette! Class
Lets now try the Nottingham or Sheffield Tram network! Great video guys! Happy Christmas to you both!
That was incredible, I now want to do the same thing!!!
What a great video, love these random challenges.
Since The Elizabeth Line has been put into full service from Reading and going to South East London (Woolwich and Abbey Wood, Also Canary Wharf for DLR to Greenwich and Lewisham) It's easy to go back to where I used to live instead of ending up having to get the Bakerloo Line from London Paddington to Charing Cross or get to London Bridge somehow. Thank Goodness its fully in service, I'm looking forward to doing something like this in London when I visit from Wales. Awesome Video, Ted in Pembrokeshire Wales, Also a Transport Hobbiest myself. 😊😊😊😊😊.
I only watched the Greater Manchester video today for the first time. London was definitely a lot more interesting as I am already familiar with the lines to Manchester Airport, Bolton and Buxton.
Lovely video! I've really enjoyed both of the randomised trip videos so far! I have 2 suggestions for another one of these, around Leeds (West Yorkshire Day Ranger) and around Birmingham (West Midlands Day Tripper/Ranger)
Birmingham one would be good, nick might even visit my local station haha!
The trouble card it's been saved now so you can still travel in London
This is the best random generated video ever.
Pointless Journey Idea: Bank to Monument (via Holborn, Leicester Square and Embankment perhaps).
You should do a race from Uxbridge to King’s Cross one will take the metropolitan and one will take the Piccadilly
Interesting idea but it would have been better to set a challenge like share a fact about the station you ended up or something along those lines. looks like it was fun though
Great idea, would have liked to have seen the outside of each station.
I do hope Revenue Protection got that pigeon lol.
Enjoyed the video as usual Nick! What zone is Sheffield in? 200?🤣
Liverpool St (Elizabeth line) to liverpool st (Nation rail)
Great random train journey on the TFL network around London Nick.
Great video to you both!
You could get a daily cap on oyster/contactless if the travel card did get withdrawn… you don’t need the travelcard.
Shenfield to Sheffield sounds like a potential Point to Point video.
How about going on Merseyside using a Saveaway which would give quite a few options to use.
That was entertaining! Keep this up!😊
Blimey, I live in Billericay and apparently I’m 5 miles from Sheffield. By gum.
There used to be two depaetures from Peterborough withing 2 minutes of each other... Platform 5 to Sheffield and Platform 4 to Shenfield (actually Liverpool Street, but they didnt announce it that way to prevent people inadvertently taking the route around the fens....)
Random Tyne and Wear metro next?!
Love this!
You should do a walk around your final destination! And discover a place you have never visited before
Just one more thing - I believe Eastcote is normally pronounced "East-c't", with a short o, rather than "East-coat".
Sheffield to Shenfield. Point to Point?
love the video pls do more in london
Nice 👍
I feel like an all line rover would be logical conclusion of this. can't wait for that lol
That is genuinely something I want to do, once I am able to afford doing such a thing!
So, that will probably happen.. Just not in the near future ;)
Great video and what fun can be had with TFL. Looks like you filmed that on a warm day and posted it when it’s now snowing 🥶 What randomiser app’s do you use?
You should have kept going until you got back to Liverpool St to make a complete "loop"
1:20 don't think they are being withdrawn anymore *EDIT* you did mention about it few seconds later
I'd like to see more of the horrible inter-change at Tottenham Court Road.
That was fun, not many places in the UK you can do that. Have you been to Paris 😁
4:06 A passenger pigeon! I thought those were extinct.
This is a good concept - could do with another element for more of a narrative or challenge though. Maybe buy a specific item near each assigned station? Still, I kind of just enjoy the randomness anyway
Ooh that does sound fun! Like a sort of challenge deck of cards to do at each station? And a random station deck too
The travel card has been saved!
Nice original tube content idea.
Randomised tube journey and "the announcements are very loud" come and join is inthe Autism club Nick
Shenfield and Sheffield... an easy mistake to make. 😆😆
What about Charring Cross to Charring Cross?
Do you know what day the last day is for the travel cards round London if you can please tell me thank you
Apart from your accent making me homesick, I can't get enough of these videos. Brilliant!
Good video👍
Have you done round Manchester yet could you be able to do it please
Im going London tomorrow for my birthday and trains are my favourite transport might use the tube for the first time in 5 years going on northern line at battersea ive been on Victoria line northern line bakerloo line and district line but some other tube lines i haven't been on like Elizabeth line and circle line that i will try another time northern line and district line are definitely my favourite tho
Sorry but The Elizabeth Line is NOT a tube line, it is a hybrid part of the National Rail system
Aren't travelcards more expensive than if you just used pay-as-you-go with a contactless bank card and hit the daily cap?
In theory, yes BUT im willing to bet they are both 16-25 Railcard users which is possibly less expensive
Just curious. Can that random generator app be downloaded?
I could have met you two at Rayners Lane! 😢😢
Does the saving of Travelcard day tickets include those purchased on National Rail outside the zones? \m/
Yes, but they say the price will increase in I believe April so that TfL get more money!
"So...Yeah", count =3. and 'Cool' count = only1. COuld be more fun if you started at 9am doing this, with a finish time of 1pm,...and then at 1pm you leave whatever station you are at, and have lunch at the closest food venue... with one final randomiser to choose what you eat off the menu!
That would be fun, however unfortunately I have to eat gluten free so it would be a pain. We went to eat food outside Holborn station, Nick was going to have a Greggs but the LNER free sausage roll vouchers we tried to use didn’t work as they said their systems were down 😅.
So instead we went to LEON’s
@@InkItOut Well...dietary restrictions can be taken into account! And maybe you should start a go fund me account for Nick to get a sausage roll without a voucher!
@@InkItOut Loved the video though. You should get sponsored by So Energy. Between you, you must have said the word 'So' about 1000 times!
Mornington cressent !
Do it again! You’d get so many different outcomes
6:27 A Piccadilly line train terminating at Arnos grove? Ive never heard of that before!
Quite a few are scheduled to turn round at Arnos Grove (I think it's normally one every 10 minutes)
@@Thornaby37 ah ok thx for the info
Shenfield is in zone 9
Do carry on visiting pointless stations please. I really do like how you visit stations using different routes.
What is the app called?
Do the same but for the Manchester tram
my gf loved it so much
Where can you get this app from please ? Does it do trans, and buses too ?
It's a website called Wheelofnames! You can put anything onto it!
Interesting thing to do but why are you using Travelcards instead of contactless? The latter is normally cheaper.
Not if you do not leave the stations, the time element comes in and you can get charged for excess time. They were doing this as one long journey so that was the correct ticket
Was this filmed in summer
Towards the end of September!
