Well since the discussion here was so frank I would like to say that Hinduism is an organic faith. For example: the sun gives us warmth and light, helps crops grow and at the same time has the power of parching the people and scorching the earth. Repsect and awe for the sun is very basal and similarly you can find the sun achieving a divine status in Hinduism. Same way, in the agrarian way of life, cattle is extremely important. From milk to ploughing it plays a vital role. Hence the bovine animals attained a status of respect and divinity. People may call this primitive and this is obviously open to argument, but I stand by this argument
The irony though is lost on the country that a foreign sport that involves a ball covered in slaughtered cow skin being thrown about, smashed with a stick, spat on, and rubbed on one's behind is so popular that it is considered a religion! Talking about cricket in case anyone was wondering. Not to mention the starving and abandoned bovine animals betrays the reality that the true intention behind the love for the bovine is really no more than an excuse for hate of certain segments of society.
@@imgn8r715 well, since you picked up the bovine issue, leather trade is allowed in India in the name of liberalism. And your discourse makes me feel like you are a liberal yourself. Stop leather trade tomorrow and the left will flood the streets with their own set of objections. So, what is your solution?
@@AdityaKumar-rj2uf Whether the left will protest the leather ban or not is speculation. I am more interested in knowing why Hindus who are against cow slaughter not protesting cricket where balls are wrapped in slaughtered cow skin?
@@imgn8r715 well there's a lot of things to protest for. Like the independence of Balochistan, creation of Pakhtunistan and of course, Sindhudesh as well. So of all the things on earth, you want to communalise and politicise cricket balls?

We have already been wearing belts, using combs and jewelry and ornaments in ancient times were made of cow products. It's you who has a communal bigot and I can sense the deep poison in you to hate hindus but alas since you cont you tried to take a lame example to demean Hindus. Go and clean your own soul coz you never how many products are made of pork skin which you so much consider to be haram and would come on street with naked swords to kill anyone whoever mixes pork or pork related products in your daily lifestyle. After a long time I have heard so wonderful, informative, insightful, unbiased and objective an interview. Probably the best of 2021. Kudos to you Abbas ji and Dr. Ahmed ji.
Islam is the real problem of Pakistan. After the last popat first five khalifas were murdered in khanajungi. So khanajungi was past, is present & future of Pakistan. Islam like Christianity, Marxism and Fiat Currency like $ driven hedonistic consumerism ask converts to cut their roots of native spirituality, native languages, native culture and pride in achievements of native ancestors. With roots gone they become rootless parasites. Rootless parasites are easy cannon fodder to build evil enslaving empires like Roman, Khilafat, Mughlai, British colonial empire and Dollar's economic empire.
I have always admired and respected Dr. ISHTIYAK AHMED, he is a learned, experienced, unprejudiced and very seasoned historian. We feel very proud to recount that after partition , when Prime Minister Liaqat Ali Khan of newly created Pakistan had invited MH Premji father of Azim Premji ( of WIPRO ) to come to Pakistan where he was offered the post of Finance Minister of Pakistan . mujib separated east-west Pakistan on the basis of bangali race. 1972 separation East-west pakistan was separated on the basis of religion from India. 1947 separation now even bangali's suffer an identity crisis on the basis of 1947-1972 independence, which india can easily exploit. kashmiri's also need to understand this, if they are with a 1947 separation it is on the basis of religion (which the indians can not easily revert), but if they separate on a 2021 basis, it will be due to kashmiri race, a decision the indians will easily revert in a couple of generations.

Mr. Abbas , there was a superb discussion. In 1947 we did not get freedom, what we got was a manufactured freedom. Britain outplayed the Indian politicians. Muslim league was predominantly made up of feudal and nawab who were very much a collaborator of the British. The real reason for the British leaving India was their precarious financial situation after second world war and huge sacrifice of the azad Hind Fauj of subhas Chandra Bose. It was a INA trial that led to uprising of the Indian armed forces.

Jinnah was from a family which converted to Islam only three generations back. Jinnah's family was a lohana (a trading community) in Hindu ,gujarati family. Their ancestoral home is still in Gonadal ,Rajkot ,Gujarat.
My father (1905-1987) was a matriculate. He always asserted that Pakistan was created by the British as a buffer state. Dr Ilahi Baksh got himself alloted a huge property on Lawerence road to establish a hospital where poor will get free treatment. This never happened. So, can we have at least some discourses in English, as well, which is understood by millions across the two countries? Thank you 🙏
Ironically, the late converts from Hinduism to Islam like Iqbal, Jinnah and Bhutto were responsible for the first partition of India based on the religion of the population, for the first time in Indian history.
I salute to Prof. Ahmed for being truthful and courageous in bringing facts about partition of India and correcting history of Pakistan, which will help Pakistan to be a peaceful and better nation.
It is the superiority complex of the ex ruling Ashraf or elite, who feared being out of power under the Hindus. The wrong idea that "Hindus and Muslims cannot live together, meant that Muslims cannot be ruled by Hindus. Muslims (meaning elite Muslims) could always rule India for 800 years if they were in power and had the freedom to eliminate Hindus wherever required. Do Qaumi nazariya only meant Muslims cannot live under Hindu rulers.
In somequarters of India too self introspection is also going on in d intellectual field. Though it is very difficult to counter both Hindu & muslim fanatics ,I hope ultimately ,we will be successful in bringing peace -harmony -respecting one another cultures .
Thought-provoking approach regarding the whole scenario that has happened in this part of the world. Just can't off your eyes from start to finish. Thanks 🙏
Ishtiaq is right in saying that India was very secular and did not want any religious state. Unfortunately over the years due to Pakistans consistence enmity towards india now most of the Indian population thinks that Pakistan is terrorism factory (I do not think this is true.). A good portion of Hindus who were tolerant have developed thought that Islam has some fundamental issues (I do believe that it needs reforms badly at least in this subcontinent). The truth is somewhere in between. Also the Pakistani rhetoric regarding modi is not helping because there is hardly any truth to it. In short even if there was not ill will among hindus it has developed now. I do think that India is stable as long as Muslims are minority. Its not that my friend Ali is bad, its just that when the clergy takes over its over. I know this is not a reasonable fear at least in my lifetime but it exists. For that matter I have seen time when my dads best friend was a muslim. We used to go to Muharram as kids and enjoy it. All the village kids used to play cricket. There was hardly concern that there are two communities. That was just 20 years back. But the difference now is actually visible. Internet has not helped either.
@@ritesharora6032 Yes and no. Do not express such opinion without explaining reasoning for such thought. Islam was meant to be for the time when world was chaotic and extremely violent. The core issue of Islam is that it fundamentally divides world in believers and non believers and tell believers that you are superior. You can kill non believers or tax them! The idea that Islam is perfect and the ultimate truth doesn’t help either! It’s total brainwashing. Yes there is truth to it in its essence but a man who is not capable of anything can not understand what is truth just because he read Quran. When actually we don’t even know if Quran was actually written or told by mohommad. Sorry to my Muslim friends. I don’t hate you but Islam is not innocent. Most Muslims are innocent but the ideology is something else. Islam gives too much power to the religious believers and the leadership and power corrupts. No wonder the moment Islam is in majority others are screwed.

Jinnah destroyed Muslim solidarity in the Indian subcontinent . Had India been united, it would have 65 crores Muslims in 170 crores of total population. This united India would have given Muslims the biggest opportunities for their advancement. Jinnah gave the slogan that Islam was in danger . That was thoroughly a gimmick and was meant to hoodwink Muslim middle classes . Jinnah rendered great disservice to the united India . While Muslims from Asharafia ,upper middle class , zamindars , feudal barons , religious fanatics left for Pakistan , 90 % Muslims from lower classes having no literacy , remained in India . After 75 years , we see that these Indian Muslims surpassed Pakistani Muslims in all fields . This is India’s biggest success.
Mohammad Ali Jinnah was supported by the British imperialism . Britishers wanted to divide India so that both countries should be dependent upon the British commonwealth. Both countries should fight among themselves and in the course , both shall purchase arms from the British . No Muslim league leaders went into jail for one hour . Nor Hindu Mahasabha / RSS leaders ever went to jail for one second during freedom struggle . Britishers helped these communal parties to the hilts while it suppressed congress through different means . Thousands of houses of congress men were destroyed / gutted . Had both countries of India and Pakistan would have been united , a united India would have become a super power by now , second to Americans. And by 2050 , a united India would have surpassed even Americans. So , Jinnah was working as an agent of British imperialism. He was being supported by anti national elements like zamindars , nawabs , feudal lords and Mullah, Maulvis and religious fanatics . People of India will never forgive him .
Professor seems confused about dates. At 36:00 he is saying in 1931 second world war had started and also Quit India movement and that is when Jinnah wrote the letter to Ramsay MacDonald to give dominion status to India. Professor Sahib, Second world war started in 1939. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II Quit India movement started in August of 1942. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quit_India_Movement
What a teacher! What a speaker! What a fantastic perspective he gives to history which is so cluttered and conflicted! Spares noone as a researcher-Nehru Jinnah alike. Respect !!
The reasons behind the historical animosity between India and Pakistan - and its continuation for last seven decades - is not simply due to a territorial dispute in Kashmir. It runs much deeper than that… and is seeped in the religious ideology of Pakistan which was the pivot for their separation from British India in 1947 where Hindus were in majority. Muslim separatism was at the heart of the partition of British India… and Pakistan continues to foster Muslim separatism within India to dismember India further. They are not content to just stop with Kashmir seperatism. It is an endless endeavour which will continue for as long as Pakistan exists!

After listening to such an enlightening conversation, I have come to sympathize with the people of Pakistan. For no fault of their own and after having been handed over a beautiful fertile land without much struggle, their leaders betrayed them. Pakistan has become such an hodge-podge of different elements, it is gonna take them a "once in a century " leader to make it a thriving nation.

Excellent content. The questions were very mature and had depth. Pakistan people should think from view point of Indians sometimes too. Most of the Indian population don't want any fight with Pak. We are forward looking people who want the country to achieve new highs in science technology and in every field. Also we would like to see Pakistan progress as well because that would add to Indian progress as well. A progressive neighbor is always better than one who thinks of one as an enemy and creates problems.
He is good in describing various strands of Mr. Jinnah. He has not adequately explained why a man that secular could end up creating a theocracy. The answer to a good question resides in the history of Muslim India. History of Muslim India where religion is always there to pounce yet devoid of any association with secularism.
Great interview, great questions, one of the most insightful discussions that I've listened on all these complex issues (Indo-Pak rivalry, Idea of Pakistan, Jinnah, Nehru, Gandhi, Pakistan as rogue state etc.). I've read biographies of Gandhi, Nehru & am an avid reader of Indian Subcontinent's History & the GeoPolitics. I agree with much of Dr. Ishtiaq's views & insights. Really good, mostly rational except when he talks about Islam Religion. However, I do not agree to (1) that Nehru was a visionary leader (may have been better than Jinnah, who I agree was worse) Nehru by kicking out SC Bose & making selfish blunders like Muslim League, warming to Soviets pre-1947 etc enabled if not caused the Partition, when he should have stopped it. (2) Dr. Ishtiaq is right that now that Pakistan is there (although he agrees it's creation was a mistake), grow it, but he is very unrealistic in saying that Pakistan can become a LIBERAL RELIGIOUS state! What in the world does that even mean? It seems he's talking like Jinnah there. One can not radicalize the state in the NAME OF RELIGION for 73 years (as Dr. Ishtiaq also says many times) & then expect some magical twist. (3) Pakistan will not survive unless it figures out a way to distance the state from ISLAM RELIGION & ISI/ ARMY. The Irony/ issue there is that, Pakistan would not survive int he 1st place WITHOUT Islam & ISI. Hence, this is a contradictory statement, its a FANTASY of Dr. Ishtiaq just like Jinnah. Pakistan will ultimately crumble, may take 5-10-30 years & India wont have to do anything either, Pakistan will implode. Consequences will be bad, very bad for everyone, but this IDEA OF PAKISTAN from Jinnah, will not end well for anyone. Sad but true.

Partition of India was the greatest blunder in human history. It resulted in muslims in India feeling insecure , in the killing of millions of people both muslim and hindus in 1947 and in 1971 which would not have happened if India had been united . The condition of the minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh would not have been what it is today. Mr Abbas I urge you to read Maulana Azad's book India wins freedom. Its a first hand account of what transpired during the freedom struggle and how events unfolded which lead to Partition
Don't he crazy. Glad India got rid of those nutcases. Yes, we also lost a few gems like Dr Ahmed but on balance, this was one of the best things that happened to India, at a huge cost, but still the best.
I think it is important to remember that Dr. Ishtiaq was born after the division of India. He has not experienced how the minorities of India felt in pre-partition days. He also has spent most of his life in Sweden where secularism is practiced. He needs to talk to Muslims of India including Kashmir, investigate the situation Dalits are in, and discuss minority issues faced by Sikhs. Dr. Ishtiaq will always be liked by the Hindus of India and praised for his voice criticizing Muhammad Ali Jinnah's Two Nation Theory. Many people have made their name in criticizing Jinnah and I am sure Dr. Ishtiaq will be a darling for that group. As we progress the rest of the world will follow. Most of us would not have achieved academic distinctions in United India, just look at education statistics pre-partition. Dr. Ishtiaq will always be popular among the naysayers of Pakistan and Hindus of India.

We have already been wearing belts, using combs and jewelry and ornaments in ancient times were made of cow products. Obviously cows were not killed for making them but they were made from dead cows, this is just to prove you wrong that Hindus enjoy a free pass to hate anyone who kills cows.

Internet has not helped either.
exceptions are not rule. see what they do when they are in majority

This interview is of last year. See the condition today. What will be the view Dr. Ishtiaq sir today. Totally unpredictable country.
Hello. Abbas sir I recently found your channel on TH-cam and I want to let you know that you are doing very good work. I watched few of your episodes and I liked them. ❤️❤️
It would be very interesting to do a focused chat on Maulana Azad, his position and why despite all his erudition, the root cause why his message did not resonate with the Muslim masses.
Jinnah was so right .... look at what's happening in kashmir and to the Muslims in India as a whole... I'm glad I'm born in a Islamic country and God creates those circumstances with me ....
Whatever is happening after 100 years india will be worlds most successful country where every people will rational independent and free thinker so people will not busy in religion debate they will be using some robot type things in daily life
That day your grandchildren will curse why they were not born on the other side of the border
Great! It is very nice to hear another point of view about our history from across the border. You are very right to say about respecting monorities, shias etc bur regretfully note that no words on ahammadiyas.
Professor Ishtiaq saheb is my favourite intellectual 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏May god Bless You sir 🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰

Mahatma Gandhi statement quote karate hue prof ishtiyaq Ahmed saab ne ek jagah bola hai ki bihar me jab congres ki first govt bani thi aur Mahatma Gandhi ne udhar baat karate hue kaha
"Ramayan Mahabharat to kalpnik hai govt Abu Bakar ke shasana nusar chalni chahie"
Isaka kya praman hai???
I too want to know
Partition of India was the greatest blunder in human history.
Agree 💯percent 👍
your knowledge about dalit ,sikh , muslim's of india very limited, and what's your literacy rate after partition??
Bhai tumne to 800 saal raaj kiya uske baad bhi keh rahe ki hindu aur muslim alag nation hai
