This video is the reason I was finally able to learn how to crochet back in 2013. It is unforgettable to me and I often show it to people as a great tutorial. I am now 20 and I am a fashion design major that tries to incorporate crochet into many of my designs! Just wanted to say thank you after all these years.
I'm a complete newbie to crochet at the ripe old age of 51 and I am grateful for the tutorial. Your video was clear and concise and very easy to follow. My technique sucks at the moment, but you give me some hope that I can pull this off. Thank you so much.
I just want to take the time to thank you! You taught me how to crochet! I have now been doing it for years and it has become my passion! Without you I would have never entered the exciting world of crochet!!!!
i stopped crocheting about 20 yrs ago, and had completely forgotten how to do it. this video was so extremely helpful! nice, slow, concise teaching. very good!
This tutorial is amazing! I was shown years ago how to crochet but never really ran with it. Now my daughter is asking how and it’s been a challenge to remember all the steps. This was such a Godsend finding this and now she’s crocheting up a storm! Thank you!
Oh my goodness, oh my goodness I have just crocheted my first Square in 30 years! My grandmother taught me when I was a child but I never continued to use what I had learnt! This is bringing back some lovely memories and you explain things so simply. Next step, a flower necklace I think! Thank you so much xx
I've looked at so many videos to learn to crochet, most have been quite unhelpful . This is the most clear, well spoken, well filmed and presented. Very easy to follow. Thank you so much.
Thanks a ton! I remember my mum teaching me the first chain when I was a kid but couldn't remember the steps after that. Your video is easy to understand and I'm doing well in my first attempt itself. Keep posting more videos.
So far just looking at this video has refreshed my memory of when my grandmother taught me how to crochet. Your video is not too fast or too complicated and I love it. I'm probably going to start a small "getting to remember crochet" project before I get into anything complicated. Crocheting is relaxing and fun and if done right it can last forever. I still have the crocheted baby blanket my grandmother made for me when I was a baby.
This is so helpful! I have no idea how to crochet, but your video just taught me! I know how to knit and make "no crochet, crochet scarf" and I've always wanted to learn how to crochet! I'm only 10, and this video helped me so much. Thank you so much again!
Love this tutorial. I started it last night when I couldn't sleep and did the first chain over and over until I felt confident. 12 hours later I've made tons of small rags! thank you~
Tightness is just a consistency problem. With crocheting it's called "tension." It's difficult when starting, but eventually comes with practice. You have to try to make your stitches a bit looser and not pull so hard. Ways that can help you with this include using either a larger hook with the same yarn you are using (if you are using an H hook, maybe try an I or a J one), or use the same hook size, but use a slightly thicker yarn than what you are using now (maybe a bulky weight yarn).
I’ve been wanting to learn how to crochet for some time now. My husband and I will be taking a beginner crochet class this weekend. So excited! I’ve been practicing a little beforehand. Your video helps so much! Thank you!
Thank you , this is my first ever video when i started crocheting, its been 9 years since i learn crochet this video, and now i start my small bussines in crochet...🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for stopping by! Consistent tension just comes with practice. You can however try adjusting the size of your hook either smaller/larger (maybe try a G hook if you are crocheting too loosely, maybe try an I hook if your stitches are too tight)... or you can adjust the type of yarn you are using - use a thinner baby clothes type of yarn if your stitches are too loose, or a thicker yarn if too tight.
Thank you so much for this video! I watched it several times and of course as a beginner made quite a few errors. It was nice watching this video and rewinding it to see how things were done before I attempted to do it one handed. It was a success and I thank you so much for the great explanations.
Came across this tutorial after struggling for weeks watching other videos. Was up past midnight practising, explained how to do a single crochet perfectly. Thanks ,I am now hooked!
This was the best tutorial Ive found, the rest were very confusing for me. I've knit for a while and decided to give this a try, I dont understand how one hook is more confusing than 2 big needles
The simplest, clearest instructions I have ever seen for learning how to crotchet. All the others had very unclear view of what was going on, or they went too fast. I didn't think I'd ever be able to learn it but now I'm going to give it another try.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been having the hardest time and your video helped me A LOT! I actually made my FIRST chain, that's how much of a beginner I am.
So glad I found this video- I was about ready to give up trying to crochet. I've watched several others and though they were good, I found them confusing and not providing all the information I needed, This is the first I've seen that clearly explains exactly where the hook must be inserted...and that made all the difference for me. I really appreciate your clear, succinct speech & "point of view" filming. Thank you for your time & effort making these videos.
Thank you! I agree with B. Ford - couldn't have said it better - Beck Ford 4 days ago I've looked at so many videos to learn to crochet, most have been quite unhelpful . This is the most clear, well spoken, well filmed and presented. Very easy to follow. Thank you so much.
You are wonderful! I went to a class and was unable to understand how to crochet from the instructor. The way she taught us to position our fingers made it uncomfortable and awkward. This is so much better. I learned more from you in just a couple minutes than anything the instructor tried to teach me in two hours time.
my mum is a recovering mental health patient. she keeps telling me she needs to keep her mind occupied. i'm using this video to practice myself so i can show her how to do it. She is very determined as am i. thank you for making it simple and to the point. Hopefully she can start making masterpeices. slowly does it.... but im sure she will get there. Thanks :)
I have been asked to show the ladies at our knitting group how to crochet, so I thought I would watch your video to brush up. I always had trouble starting each row and have just learnt from you to finish the row with making a chain before tuning to start the new row....thanks so much for that. I am going to show this video, I think you explain it nicely. Jayne.
I was taught how to do a single stitch crochet in high school and I always forget how to start a new piece. It usually takes me quite a few views to get it, but this video was so clear and just slow enough to get it right away. I'm going on a road trip with my husband and I'm going to try crocheting again to keep myself busy and concentrate on my husband and not my phone!
Literally, I have been searching for HOURS trying to find a well made video for beginners. All the videos I kept finding were horrible quality, or had unclear instructions. So, Thank you!
My mother in law taught me how to crochet a trim around soft baby blankets 44 years ago. I have since forgotten. Your easy and simple beginner videos are wonderful! Thank you so much.
My 2nd grade teacher taught me how to crochet when I had to stay inside during recess for a week due to getting over bronchitis. I loved it immediately! Over the years I forgot how, but never stopped loving the craft. So thank you very much for these very simple and informative videos!! It's because of these videos that my daughter now has some beautiful scarves, hats...you name it! Thank you very much! :)
I'm a newly grandmother 1 st grandchild and recently I've been diagnosed with chronic illness and I find that I become exhausted and bored and lonely very quickly so I decided to take up crocheting (make something for the baby) well I've been trying and only thing I've been able to make is circles. I never got the chance to learn how to crochet from my grandmother before she passed and I've always wanted to learn since then (I was 12). I finally went ahead and bought the materials I needed and decided to learn for myself by coming on here. It's a bit difficult for me. It's not turning out too good at all. I guess it's trial and error but...I believe I'll get it as long as I keep trying. This video is VERY helpful to me. Thank you so much for posting it. I plan to watch more and more as I continue to learn...if I can ever get past this first part.

Your teaching style and slowly doing the actions makes this the top crochet learning tutoral. I recommend all of your how-to videos. You're helping me brush up!
Wonderful tutorial! Thank you so much! I've wanted to learn to crochet forever. My grandmother was a master of this art form and watching her mesmerized me. I would watch her for hours. I tried learning from her and she was so patient with me, but I was just too clumsy at that time and I quickly gave up. Today I'm a professional artist and I feel more confident now to give crochet a go. Your vid is simple to follow. Thank you!
Wow this really helped me I am only 9 and I got what to do really quick thanks KNOW I have to teach my mom a easier and better WHY to do the very first step with tying the string
Very helpful and informative, thank you! I've been wanting to relearn crocheting-I did it when I was younger-but can't remember it well enough. Looking forward to crocheting some lovely things.
All of the other videos make no since and I just started learning to crochet chains just a week ago and by thks video, it made alot of since and I'm just 11 years old. Thanks so much and I will continue to watch your videos!!!
I taught myself how to knit a few years back but never really enjoyed it. I picked up some crochet tools over the weekend and tried to watch a few videos online. This was the only video that actually was easy to follow along to. Now I'm off to practice my chains! :)
Thank you so much! i've understanded everything, very clear and easy. This helped me alot on making something for my mother. Thank you so much, naztazia!
Thank you so much for this video! I've never crocheted before and have never been able to knit cause it's so much hassle, I may have needed to redo it numerous times to get the hang of it and dropped a few stitches but I gotta say looking pretty darn good for having never crocheted before
After all l the videos I have seen on TH-cam. This is the first video to help make a chain. I need way more practice but this is the first step. Thank you
OMG, I thank you, for years i been trying to learn how to crochet, and thanks to you, I have finally crochet my first ever square. Before watching your video, I would get hung up on the yarn over before pulling wool through, I was never seeing the yarn over after/ before pulling through the 2 loops... WOHOOO I made a square, I'm so happy, thank you again.
I've been knitting for a long time, but I was always jealous of my buddy for being able to use only one short needle. Thanks to your video, I picked up crocheting almost immediately. Can't wait to try more complicated snitches (or whatever they're called in crocheting)!
Thank you as I have recently started crocheting. My friend is left handed and was so patiently trying to teach me. I am right handed. It finally "clicked" after viewing your video and with practice.
Don't forget to count your stitches. I didn't count mine and tried to estimate with eyes, and my chains got shorter and shorter. It looked like a trapezoid! :P
I want to thank you with all my heart for doing these instructional videos. You explain very thoroughly and your pictures help me as well. My G-D bless you kindly for your kindness
Hi, I have a question: Does the hook have to go "under and through?" For all of my life I've been going over and through--it looks the same, to me, but then I don't really crochet much (something I'd like to change).
My stitches are either too tight, or too loose. What is the best way to try and control that? I realize it's all on the left hand for that, but I haven't quite figured out how maneuver everything to get it as even as possible.
A friend of mine asked me to make a video on how to crochet and I told him there is no way I would be able to make a decent "how to" video, and unfortunately we are in different states, so teaching in person is out of the question. I told him I would search youtube to see if I could find a decent video. Most I come across are okay, but they just don't quite cut it. They skip the part on how to hold the yarn or hook, they go too fast, or they just don't articulate what they mean well enough. Your video is everything I had hoped to find and more. You are clear and concise and you address things most people forget beginners really should know. So thank you for this great video. =)
Same issue I seem to face currently; being an absolute beginner. Glad to know you had it improved, because I have the impression it's impossible &tell myself I ought to give it up already. I hope I'll manage just like you did.
Me= “oh what the heck, violet is a pretty colour” Me 5 minutes later=“ AHHHHH I CANT SEE ANYTHING WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE A PURPLE DOG SHEDED ALL OVER ME?!”

You're very clear in your instructions. Thank you.
Glad the video could help - thanks for stopping by!
thankyou,your instruction is very useful
This helped me with my first crochet art
Callie Nance Excellent! Glad the video could help :)
After all l the videos I have seen on TH-cam. This is the first video to help make a chain. I need way more practice but this is the first step. Thank you
Best tutorial out there! I love sewing and crafting, so why not crochet!
wOW u are helping me so much! I am gonna subscribe! Please make more videos!
Thank you much! Every week or so I do upload a new video if that helps :)
+Tina Eastman Awesome! Glad the video could help :)

i already knitted a beanie hat :)
This helped me a lot, thank you very much. 😏
I've been knitting for a long time, but I was always jealous of my buddy for being able to use only one short needle. Thanks to your video, I picked up crocheting almost immediately. Can't wait to try more complicated snitches (or whatever they're called in crocheting)!
This was the first tutorial that actually helped! Thank you ^_^

Thank you as I have recently started crocheting. My friend is left handed and was so patiently trying to teach me. I am right handed. It finally "clicked" after viewing your video and with practice.
I'm learning crochet to fulfill my bee needs.
Don't forget to count your stitches. I didn't count mine and tried to estimate with eyes, and my chains got shorter and shorter. It looked like a trapezoid! :P
+Mae Mae You are absolutely correct :)
I want to thank you with all my heart for doing these instructional videos.
You explain very thoroughly and your pictures help me as well.
My G-D bless you kindly for your kindness
Thanks for the help! I'm only 11 years old! :)
+Mya Harden Awesome! Glad the video could help out!
Super
Thank you madam....I learner chrochet from u r video......thanks a lot
I'm from india...
Nice to meet you!
I can't hold it securely in my left hand!! It's either too loose or too tight and I have to keep rewrapping the wool around my fingers
Hi, I have a question: Does the hook have to go "under and through?" For all of my life I've been going over and through--it looks the same, to me, but then I don't really crochet much (something I'd like to change).
Seriously the clearest of all instructors that I've tried watching/ reading! Thank you for the help!
When I do crochet and knitting I can't help but let the wool get tighter and tighter, how do I stop that please?
Yeah I made something for my teacher on the last day of school
Awesome! Glad the video could help!
Out of all the videos I watched this is the only one that actually helped me. Thank you for making this!
My stitches are either too tight, or too loose. What is the best way to try and control that? I realize it's all on the left hand for that, but I haven't quite figured out how maneuver everything to get it as even as possible.
Practice. I guess you kind of have to learn your own strength so you don't pull too tight or too loose.
I'm a guy and I will do crochet just to learn something new.
+TiMeSpLiT- -TeR Awesome! Nice to meet you too!

I just started to learn to crochet and my chains are too tight and small. I can barely get my needle to pull the yarn through. What am I doing wrong?
Thread the yarn round through your fingers on left hand to get the tension correct.
Just don't pull as tight?
I have gotten better, but I think you have a point that is what I was doing. Thanks.
Same issue I seem to face currently; being an absolute beginner. Glad to know you had it improved, because I have the impression it's impossible &tell myself I ought to give it up already. I hope I'll manage just like you did.
JC Spurling that happened to me too!
You are good
