The orange bricks are fair, they're pretty close to red and orange was once just thought of as another shade of red anyways. As is the log, it's a slightly muddled red but it's still red.
I do think that, outside the very corner of that elevator, it's not red.
Odd that I'm defending the count, usually on these I kinda agree most of his should be far less invested.
@@pubcle The very corners are red, and he did technically touch them a few times. Thats probably why he didn't initially count them, just like he didn't originally see that mario was face-grinding against the pillars in the Desert level until seeing the footage afterwards.

I feel like red is like the perfect color to avoid in mario games. There's too much green that it would literally be impossible, yellow would just be the no coins challenge + no desert levels, and there's not really much of any other color in most games. Red has a bunch of enemies, red coins, some pipes, lava, and mushrooms (maybe missed a few), all things that could be avoided with skill
I think a lot of games could use just red, but I'd like to see the nsmb games, particularly wii and u, for this kind of video
Actually, yellow is impossible too, since the stars and I think Bowser’s keys are also yellow.

I mean, touching red in SM64 is not possible since you can't enter the castle without touching the carpet for at least like 3 or 4 frames so you can open the door. It would be possible in SMS maybe. Not likely to be possible in SMG1 or 2, since those games are the MOST colourful of the series. SMO straight up isn't possible I think because of Bowser's Kingdom. The 2D Mario games are often easier for these types of challenges, so I would actually like to see this type of challenge in SMM2. It would fair well in that game since the levels are almost random at this point.
If you wanna get REALLY technical, red should also be impossible because Mario's clothes are red. So technically he's touching red 24/7.
I love the idea of these videos, I think if possible you should do two separate counters for avoidable touches and unavoidable touches, so that way for example the speedrun idea you were talking about, you can prove whether or not they'd be possible

yellow would be the "speedrun" color, you'd have to avoid as many stars as possible leading to a low star run
Although isn't the start area in SM64 ALREADY yellow which means that challenge is doomed from start even with a 0 star? Shines are also yellow.
@@yastenjapfan4854 well, the file menu screen is 3d so as long as the sprite doesn't touch the yellow then it's fine
with the same rules as this challenge it'd be fine, 0 touches would be impossible it'd be about keeping the yellow touches to a minimum

Lethal Lava Land is appropriately named, because you take lots of Ls in this challenge if you try to go there.

As an SM64 speedrunner watching this, it was painfully hilarious because of the sheer number of red touches that were completely unnecessary with certain speedrunning strats, especially in SSL and LLL XD. Might be an interesting speedrun, though, if you just take out castle movement as strikes against touching red, or perhaps a minimum red touch challenge.

He should have skipped Lethal Lava Land entirely, Big Boo's Haunt would have been a lot safer 1 extra red touch to avoid the massive number of them at LLL. The 1 Level with the most red in the entire game he chooses to enter mindlessly.

some parts where it was counted as red in my opinion it's not clear if it's really red or if it's orange and in other cases there's also the question whether it's not pink. Also, the log on “lethal lava land” is light brown on the way I see it

I think that it's possible to get 70 stars with at least a few less red touches. It would take a lot of practice though

I like watching speedrunners use glitches, but for doing a speedrun myself i personally prefer not to use them (because to me it more legit) (well, i wanna do a BLJ (i never really played any version of mario 64 exept for 3D all-stars), i do use shortcuts that don't have any glitches involved tho, also i didn't know you get coins by short hop jump kicking of a womp
