My experience is that the fluid film branded gun is ok for home use but won't hold up if you go through 55 gallon drums. That pro plus gun looks pretty sweet, though I have no experience with it. Also, don't fool yourself thinking you are going to do a whole car with cans. Besides the cost, I've found that the product in the aerosol cans is different. It seems to be thinner and not work as well. Just my experiences as a home mechanic who has fluid filmed my own and friends cars.

Growing up in the desert it still blows my mind that you have to do something like this to keep your car from rotting away. We do partially pay for it with plastic that become brittle and breaks into a thousand little pieces if you look at it wrong.

Hi Eric O! I live in southern Norway and our climate requires rust preventive treatment. They use salt on our roads every winter. The most used stuff here is a Valvoline product called Tectyl. Comes in two variations, thin fluid for sills, frames, door bottoms. Its highly penetrable and is applied with a gun like the one you use. The other version is thick and wax like and is for all underside use. Its applied with a high pressure air gun. Doesen't drip after application. I love this stuff and it keeps the metal worms away. I use used motor oil in a paint sprayer and coat frame fuel and brake lines, ( if they are steel ) Rust is really bad at the university I work at, they lay a carpet of salt in winter months. Also do my own and have had great results. Been wrenching 43 yrs, I really enjoy your content. Hope it's ok to say I always enjoy Mrs.O, you both are a great team.

I’ve heard about this before and I wondered if motor oil would work? How many times do you filter the oil and do you use any thinner or anything. Could you tell me what type of paint sprayer to use please? I sprayed under the doors in the drain holes 🕳️ with a can of WD and thought I had really discovered something. My Dad told me that they would wipe down the cars with kerosene on the bottoms and drive down a rocked road to put a “sealer” over it. Then wash it in the spring. I just retired from the state of Illinois highway department. I’m one of the “Salt Shakers” that you see on the roads. 🤣😂.

Yes. Those bitumen-like coatings put on when the car is new are a disaster! Any pinhole allows water to get under the coating, it then can’t get out and rots out the metal underneath. Worst part is the rust is covered by the coating and you can’t see it.

I don't remember if it was the last time you talked about this, or somewhere else online, but.. I remember people saying they don't bother doing this, instead they just do weekly car washes with underbody spray jets. I understand the appeal, because that makes your car look nice too. That is not enough though, that is not a replacement for this. You have to protect the metal itself. That salt is just eating away at your car/truck in between washes if you don't protect the metal.

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, garaged kept, maintained well. Recently I was doing some work underneath and it was pretty much rust-free, except for the area just above the spare tire. It was a mess, cross members very rusty, had to do some serious remediation. Seems the spare holds moisture and gives rust a better chance in that area. I would strongly recommend dropping that spare and treating that area well on any GMC/Chevy 1500 with an undercarriage spare.

Fluid film was in the middle somewhere. I made up my own for a while, summer grade bar n chain oil, a toilet ring, (beeswax) and 5 cakes of paraffin wax. then heated Mine did as well as fluid film. Do not use any kind of hydraulic fluid. It absorbs moisture. The waxy stuff on the frame is probably lanolin put on at the factory.

Ziebart drilled about 500 holes to spray their top secret goo, then you have yellow plugs every 10 inches. I think what happened to them they hired alot of 16 year olds to work. Difference is you care and do an excellent job, you talk alot and that makes good instruction. I've been a mechanic for 55 years and I still learn from this channel.

Very good job you do because your attention to details, ''almost'' more important than the rust proofing product. A friend of mine do have a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD with over 400,000 miles with almost nos rust on it, every spring, he pressure wash from a distance (NOT pressure blast, different) under his pick up truck 2 - 3 times to remove all the salt and aother accumulation, let it dry for 2-3 weekd than send it to rust proofing to a shop with attention to details. We do live 350 miles north-east of you, where 5 months/year we do have the roads cover with snow and salt/calcium and everything to rust anything. Because every vh do have specific building ways, in some places the need is to cover while in other places it is essential to have a product with high/very high capillary action in order to infltrate/penetrate in very narrow space such as where two sheet metal panels meet. You show a job very well done. 👍👌👍👌👍👌

I live in Washington and we have our share of snow and ice especially in the mountains. We don't use salt but rather sand and a deicing solution that can also be applied before it gets to freezing Temps.
Our cars don't rot out like this nor do they need this coating. The deicing solution is more expensive than salt, but it would be much cheaper for everyone overall given vehicle damage, road damage, etc.

Thank you for turning me on to Fluid Film. I watched one of your video's years ago about using fluid film. I live in Chicago land same issues with winter salt here. I have a 2014 Ram. Started using fluid film in 2016. Its parked outside and driven every day year round. No major rust at all on the truck. There is a light surface rust on the driveshaft differential and a few spots on the frame. I do it ever year with the cans. It takes me 10 to 12 cans and about a day to do it but is worth it. I even drilled small access holes on the inside of the bed and spray inside with a extended straw. Then I use a small rubber grommet to plug the holes. Do the same with all the factory holes as well. I have no bed rocker or corner cap rust at all. One more place I forgot. I pull the third brake light and spray the inside of the roof. I have had problems with those seals leaking form time to time.
