Bruh. I’ve had 4-5 dodge chargers… Years from 2006-2015 Out of all of them. I kept my 2006 3.5 engine and outlasted all my other chargers and most reliable car I ever owned 😂😂😂😂 Picked up an 04 Yukon 200k miles and I’m hanging onto that for a while…. As with all my used cars I buy…. I always start with the engine maintenance, then suspension … then body, paint, new wheels, window tint stereo etc etc etc so if you got a .. classic car/truck and u like it, go for it

Well the only issue is the most important parts(transmission/engine) are pretty likely to fail when you get into high miles, so you’re risking putting this work in and then needing to buy a new engine. I’ve never seen a cheap transmission, but you can get a 5.3l for under 1k, so maybe not such a terrible cost

Btw, HF has brake caliper clamp for $7, which works like charm, if you want to forgo the C clamp. Suggestion: Showdown of can openers, manual and electric ones.
The only thing I hate about channels like Scotty Kilmer's is his many clickbait titles. The sane precise titles on Farm Project is one of the many things I love about the channel.

Based on the cost and low build quality of new vehicles these days that vehicle was definitely worth the cost and effort to keep it going, don't change anything on your channel, it's one of the best on TH-cam.

I agree. I love that there is no long ass preamble or bloat in your videos, and you get right to the point, with little to no fat to trim. Other channels tend to become an aggressive waste of viewers time because they are trying to please the youtube algorithm. If you want to experiment for your own sake, change things up, feel free, but since you're asking, don't change.
What finally sent my 2008 f150 to the junk yard was: 150,000 miles, tires very old and possibly a safety issue. Brake warning light that just stayed on with no problems. ALL the lines started blowing out, gas line repair, brake line band aid repairs, power steering lines blew out one after another, the whole steering system rusted so bad it all just needed replaced. Torn seat, then a crack developed in the trans housing that marked my spot and went though a quart a month..and last...rusted rear wheel wells limiting the possible value ever of the truck. repairs to be safe would cost more than the truck would EVER be worth. Drove it to the junkyard and got $425 for it.

Slooper, that's awesome. Quick story..I bought a brand new Lexus LS 400 the year they came out. I loved it. I brought it to the dealer for routine service and asked the service manager how long it would last if I kept up on the routine stuff. He brought me deep into their shop and showed me my exact car purchased a month earlier than mine with 301,000 miles on it. It belonged to a traveling salesman who didn't fly. He said the car drives like new. I told him that sounded far fetched. He pulled it out and told me to take it out for 15 minutes. (with the owner's permission) I'll be danged if it wasn't just as tight feeling and quiet as mine that had less than 50K on it. Toyota makes amazing stuff. Your story reminded me of that so I figured I'd share. I sold mine at 75K and did okay. It held a lot of value back then. Cheers and here's to 500K.

Bro, as a master tech with 20 years of experience, you did EVERYTHING exactly how I would (minus the paint on the knuckle and the body work). This is fantastic information for beginners and those that want to maintain a high millage vehicle. My F-150 (08 Lariat crew cab w/ heavy duty tow package) is at 580,000 miles because I maintain it as well as you have on your burban. Keep up the good work my man.
I did pretty much everything that you just did about 4 years ago to my ’95 Z71. What a difference it makes. Only difference is it took me about 1.5 weeks to accomplish what you did in 25 minutes 😂. My truck has 238k miles. Bought it new. Love your calling. And that is one good looking suburban.
doing this for living so here are some quick tips 1. block sand putty with coarse grit 2. fine sand with orbial sander finer grit 3. prime using high build 2k primer 4.block primer 5. scuff(remove the shine of the clearcoat) the whole panel or part of it (if there are body lines and you want to polish the blend later on) 6. degreese 7. paint and clear 2 coats should be sufficient 8.,enjoy ur work
My 06 Chevy suburban has the 8.1L V8, is a southern COMPLETELY rust free truck with 392k on it. Runs GREAT. Woolwax/fluid film and preventative maintenance will make this a 1M mile truck.
@@ljbrandt500 a lanolin based, non toxic undercoat that you apply yearly. It is self healing, and oozes into all the books and crannies. It is similar to fluid film but thicker. Both can be had in their natural color or in black. There are shops that apply it but you can buy DIY kits as well. MANY TH-cam videos on both. HIGHLY recommend.

I have nearly the same vehicle! 2000 suburban 2500 LT. 340,000 mile daily driver. You really should add or tag Chevrolet or suburban in the title. This video is a huge help. Also, if this was a Saturday afternoon garage show on tv, you just did half a season in 25 minutes 😂. Great job! The pace is right on for the average person taking care of this type of work. No fluff and if one doesn’t have the tools they can be rented for the most part and bought if needed. Excellent work as always 🙌🏼
My 2003 Toyota Highlander is my daily driver. It has 409,xxx miles with no major repairs EVER and is VERY reliable, has never let me down. I’ll replace it when it dies.

This is amazing! I just bought a 2003 f250 5.4L 2 valve with 375k km. Motor is solid! There is a lot of play in the steering so I will have to look at getting the front end done. This was great to watch. 🙏🏽

Probably more than 10k, suspension parts, shops are unwilling to press out the rubber bits, so they force you all new parts. I gave up that same model Suburban 14 yrs ago the maintenance just wasn't worth it

My 2011 Camry LE 2.5L 2AR-FE is just getting broken in at 133K miles. I bought it used for $14K in 2014. It spent most of its life In the snowy NE U.S. doing daily trips of 25-50 country miles and long highway cruises. The water-based clearcoat was admittedly awful that year. Otherwise easy driving, trouble-free and low maintenance.
I literally just said the same thing. I have a 2001 GMC Yukon with 320,000 miles. I've owned it since 150,000 and I've neglected it because it needs a fuel pump, but it got me through some hard times (divorce) and great times (meeting the woman who is now my wife). It deserves to be shown the love that it showed me all those years. I'll be ordering the parts this week!

Your smart keep going! My PT Cruiser has over 350,000 km on it and I just rebuilt the engine at 309,000 km. The body is pretty rusty but mechanically I have a brand new car and it didn't cost much at all, just paid for engine parts. I only use it as my winter car and its awesome.
I have more respect for this youtube channel than any other at this point. You've stayed true to yourself and your viewers this whole time without selling out. I have 210k on my 2003 Suburban. The wife keeps asking for a new vehicle, no way. This is one of the most reliable/cheap to fix, comfortable spacious vehicles still in existence. Yeah, MPGs are a bit of a struggle and I WISH it had at least a six speed for towing, but it does it all well enough. Super proud of you and your channel, I've been subscribed since you had 13k subscribers, amazing work pays off.
That is the one huge downside to the older vehicles. Most of them get terrible MPG's. I still have a 2005 diesel Excursion for my 6 kids but it is cheaper to take two modern cars. Mostly just use it for camping and family vacations where we all want to be together.
Corporate sponsorship and advertising are what has ruined the internet. Are you old enough to remember the internet before corporate america got their grubby hands on it? Project farm knows that sponsorships would destroy his channel. Just like it has destroyed the internet.
That string alignment works. I destroyed an axle with a horribly misaligned suspension. So after replacing it I used that method and just to make sure I went to a shop and had them check it with the right equipment. Nailed it.
@@ProjectFarm I did like your 2 plates with grease technique though. Plexiglass is expensive so you might be able to do the same with hardboard. I think I saw somewhere use using trash bags. You could do a whole video on that stuff alone. But that's not really your style. One thing about working on cars like this though, Mine is a 2006 Beetle and everything is basically the same, except everything is done just a little bit differently. Things like tri square pattern bolts where I had to buy a new set just to take something off. And the shocks have this weird bolt within a bolt arrangement that defies loosening. In other words, you got lucky.

A Mechanic told me once when i brought my 2000 Suburban in at 50,000 miles to change the transmission fluid not to. He said there is no maintenance to the transmission other than topping off the fluid. Only open up the transmission if you're having problems with it, He said if you leave that fluid in there and only top off once in a while that the transmission will last 350,000 miles. Well he was wrong because my transmission lasted to 379,889 miles before i had to replace the transmission. I know i won't get that out of the rebuild but the Suburban is at 391,004 now and doing just great. That old guy knew something and it's been one of the best pieces of advice I've ever followed. Keep everything at the pace you are doing. To the point and just the facts!

Thanks for showing everyone that old can be gold. My Audi has 308k miles and never left me stranded. Regular fluid changes on all of the 3 differentials, the transmission, and of course the engine oil, and brake fluid have been a huge help and never had to replace anything major. Just belts, a couple pulleys, brakes, and fluids and it's happy.

As far as video speed, I would prefer it slowed down a bit. With my background it’s easier for me to follow it than others with less experience. Just tryina look out for “the little guy”, but it really all comes down to personal preference. That is the wonder of modern technology and VOD (video on demand), people are able to rewind as many times as they need to suit their use case. Not complaining, just giving my two cents. I’ve seen others state the opposite case and I have no problem with that. You’re obviously doing a wonderful job, so again the decision really comes down to what you prefer.

Picked up an 04 Yukon 200k miles and I’m hanging onto that for a while…. As with all my used cars I buy…. I always start with the engine maintenance, then suspension … then body, paint, new wheels, window tint stereo etc etc etc so if you got a .. classic car/truck and u like it, go for it

Well the only issue is the most important parts(transmission/engine) are pretty likely to fail when you get into high miles, so you’re risking putting this work in and then needing to buy a new engine. I’ve never seen a cheap transmission, but you can get a 5.3l for under 1k, so maybe not such a terrible cost

This is honestly peak Project Farm - you've tested almost everything you've used, so all of your old testing can be referenced for why you use what you do.
Do not change anything about the format, its what made this channel what it is. No bs, no clickbait titles, no long intros, no 15 min inconsequential stories before getting to the point...yup. Btw, HF has brake caliper clamp for $7, which works like charm, if you want to forgo the C clamp. Suggestion: Showdown of can openers, manual and electric ones.
The only thing I hate about channels like Scotty Kilmer's is his many clickbait titles. The sane precise titles on Farm Project is one of the many things I love about the channel.

I agree. I love that there is no long ass preamble or bloat in your videos, and you get right to the point, with little to no fat to trim. Other channels tend to become an aggressive waste of viewers time because they are trying to please the youtube algorithm. If you want to experiment for your own sake, change things up, feel free, but since you're asking, don't change.
What finally sent my 2008 f150 to the junk yard was: 150,000 miles, tires very old and possibly a safety issue. Brake warning light that just stayed on with no problems. ALL the lines started blowing out, gas line repair, brake line band aid repairs, power steering lines blew out one after another, the whole steering system rusted so bad it all just needed replaced. Torn seat, then a crack developed in the trans housing that marked my spot and went though a quart a month..and last...rusted rear wheel wells limiting the possible value ever of the truck. repairs to be safe would cost more than the truck would EVER be worth. Drove it to the junkyard and got $425 for it.

Slooper, that's awesome. Quick story..I bought a brand new Lexus LS 400 the year they came out. I loved it. I brought it to the dealer for routine service and asked the service manager how long it would last if I kept up on the routine stuff. He brought me deep into their shop and showed me my exact car purchased a month earlier than mine with 301,000 miles on it. It belonged to a traveling salesman who didn't fly. He said the car drives like new. I told him that sounded far fetched. He pulled it out and told me to take it out for 15 minutes. (with the owner's permission) I'll be danged if it wasn't just as tight feeling and quiet as mine that had less than 50K on it. Toyota makes amazing stuff. Your story reminded me of that so I figured I'd share. I sold mine at 75K and did okay. It held a lot of value back then. Cheers and here's to 500K.
I have a 1992 Toyota 4x4 with 130,000 and it makes me sad that the frame has rotted out because it would have gone the 300K !

Bro, as a master tech with 20 years of experience, you did EVERYTHING exactly how I would (minus the paint on the knuckle and the body work). This is fantastic information for beginners and those that want to maintain a high millage vehicle. My F-150 (08 Lariat crew cab w/ heavy duty tow package) is at 580,000 miles because I maintain it as well as you have on your burban. Keep up the good work my man.

doing this for living so here are some quick tips
1. block sand putty with coarse grit
2. fine sand with orbial sander finer grit
3. prime using high build 2k primer
4.block primer
5. scuff(remove the shine of the clearcoat) the whole panel or part of it (if there are body lines and you want to polish the blend later on)
6. degreese
7. paint and clear 2 coats should be sufficient
8.,enjoy ur work
My 06 Chevy suburban has the 8.1L V8, is a southern COMPLETELY rust free truck with 392k on it. Runs GREAT. Woolwax/fluid film and preventative maintenance will make this a 1M mile truck.

@@ljbrandt500 a lanolin based, non toxic undercoat that you apply yearly. It is self healing, and oozes into all the books and crannies. It is similar to fluid film but thicker. Both can be had in their natural color or in black. There are shops that apply it but you can buy DIY kits as well. MANY TH-cam videos on both. HIGHLY recommend.

I have nearly the same vehicle! 2000 suburban 2500 LT. 340,000 mile daily driver. You really should add or tag Chevrolet or suburban in the title. This video is a huge help. Also, if this was a Saturday afternoon garage show on tv, you just did half a season in 25 minutes 😂. Great job! The pace is right on for the average person taking care of this type of work. No fluff and if one doesn’t have the tools they can be rented for the most part and bought if needed. Excellent work as always 🙌🏼

Probably more than 10k, suspension parts, shops are unwilling to press out the rubber bits, so they force you all new parts. I gave up that same model Suburban 14 yrs ago the maintenance just wasn't worth it

My 2011 Camry LE 2.5L 2AR-FE is just getting broken in at 133K miles. I bought it used for $14K in 2014. It spent most of its life In the snowy NE U.S. doing daily trips of 25-50 country miles and long highway cruises. The water-based clearcoat was admittedly awful that year. Otherwise easy driving, trouble-free and low maintenance.
Camry and corolla are incredible cars, it's rare to not see one go over 300k

I literally just said the same thing. I have a 2001 GMC Yukon with 320,000 miles. I've owned it since 150,000 and I've neglected it because it needs a fuel pump, but it got me through some hard times (divorce) and great times (meeting the woman who is now my wife). It deserves to be shown the love that it showed me all those years. I'll be ordering the parts this week!

Your smart keep going! My PT Cruiser has over 350,000 km on it and I just rebuilt the engine at 309,000 km. The body is pretty rusty but mechanically I have a brand new car and it didn't cost much at all, just paid for engine parts. I only use it as my winter car and its awesome.

I have a GMT800 truck and debating whether I should fix it. The transmission is bad and the truck has 214k. Engine, body, and suspension are solid.
@@buzztrucker Have you seen the price of new trucks?? Those Transmissions are cheap. Definitely fix it. I've got 372k on mine and still runs beautifully. I'm still on the original transmission, but if it crapped out tomorrow, I would replace it. These trucks will run forever.

I have 210k on my 2003 Suburban. The wife keeps asking for a new vehicle, no way. This is one of the most reliable/cheap to fix, comfortable spacious vehicles still in existence. Yeah, MPGs are a bit of a struggle and I WISH it had at least a six speed for towing, but it does it all well enough.

That is the one huge downside to the older vehicles. Most of them get terrible MPG's. I still have a 2005 diesel Excursion for my 6 kids but it is cheaper to take two modern cars. Mostly just use it for camping and family vacations where we all want to be together.
Make your own biodiesel from used vegetable oil for about $2.50/ gallon. Who cares about mpg when fuel is so cheap.

That string alignment works. I destroyed an axle with a horribly misaligned suspension. So after replacing it I used that method and just to make sure I went to a shop and had them check it with the right equipment. Nailed it.

@@ProjectFarm I did like your 2 plates with grease technique though. Plexiglass is expensive so you might be able to do the same with hardboard. I think I saw somewhere use using trash bags. You could do a whole video on that stuff alone. But that's not really your style. One thing about working on cars like this though, Mine is a 2006 Beetle and everything is basically the same, except everything is done just a little bit differently. Things like tri square pattern bolts where I had to buy a new set just to take something off. And the shocks have this weird bolt within a bolt arrangement that defies loosening. In other words, you got lucky.

A Mechanic told me once when i brought my 2000 Suburban in at 50,000 miles to change the transmission fluid not to. He said there is no maintenance to the transmission other than topping off the fluid. Only open up the transmission if you're having problems with it, He said if you leave that fluid in there and only top off once in a while that the transmission will last 350,000 miles. Well he was wrong because my transmission lasted to 379,889 miles before i had to replace the transmission. I know i won't get that out of the rebuild but the Suburban is at 391,004 now and doing just great. That old guy knew something and it's been one of the best pieces of advice I've ever followed.

Thanks for showing everyone that old can be gold. My Audi has 308k miles and never left me stranded. Regular fluid changes on all of the 3 differentials, the transmission, and of course the engine oil, and brake fluid have been a huge help and never had to replace anything major. Just belts, a couple pulleys, brakes, and fluids and it's happy.
I’ve got 360,000 miles on a 2001 5.3 liter Silverado. I’ll keep it going as long as I can. It’s built much better than the newer ones. Love your channel!
Ive got a 1996 z71 plow truck with 245,000 miles and it doesn’t even have a check engine light on the dash!

As far as video speed, I would prefer it slowed down a bit. With my background it’s easier for me to follow it than others with less experience. Just tryina look out for “the little guy”, but it really all comes down to personal preference. That is the wonder of modern technology and VOD (video on demand), people are able to rewind as many times as they need to suit their use case. Not complaining, just giving my two cents. I’ve seen others state the opposite case and I have no problem with that. You’re obviously doing a wonderful job, so again the decision really comes down to what you prefer.
