I love your spirit! Your family is wonderful and the fact that you all work together is inspiring! I live in north central Washington State in a small town. We live in the county but only a few minutes from town, very rural. We've raised chicken and had a garden.
My daughter moved to a big city and bought a house in town. I promised to move to wherever she moved. (I thought she was going to get a place outside of town.) I'm sad because i don't want to live in the city but i love my grandchildren and children too much and will not break my promise. I love your vlogs and will continue to live vicariously through you! I am going to get them all gardening and, who knows, they could have chickens in their future! Love you and always wish you the best! God bless!❤

Anytime we have ever bought property, we always visit it after an extensive rain . If it happens to be raining when we are walking the property even better. That way you get an idea of water flow and potential flooding issues. But, welcome to the rain of NC. Every year, like clockwork. Muddy boots are the norm for working outside in the winter.

I so look forward to your videos. I check every day. They are encouraging me as we (my daughter and spouse and two little boys and me) clean up our property as well. I closed on 18 acres the same day you closed on your property. Yours was recorded before mine. The clean up has been similar. Can't believe people live like this! We had 5 sleeping cabins to clean out , a kitchen building, and a fifth wheel. 14 buildings in all. Carpets have been ripped out of all the cabins and fifth wheel, and absolutely filthy furniture, and gross mattresses and bedding. The previous owners were substance growers and had two mastiffs that had been kept in all the buildings and one nice shed we will use as a chicken house. All the couches were actually black and greasy from the dogs. The smell was unbelievable. There was resin and wires to dry their product strung in many of the buildings and a thriving (and probably high) mouse population in all buildings. I am still living on my ranch (minimum of 6 hours away-usually longer pulling the trailer). I have brought all the mattresses, furniture and garbage back and burned it. Then I haul the springs and leftover metal to the metal recycle. We have bleached all the buildings and painted them. Then we had the ceilings insulated and tongue and groove pine put on the ceilings. My daughter laid vinyl plank flooring in all the cabins. It looks so good! Did the ceilings in the kitchen building and bathhouse also. My daughter and family are living there this winter with no heat (we are solar so far). Thank goodness for the fire ring. They have a fire every day unless it is pouring rain. They are basically living outside and the 4 and 7 year old love it. I come and go. We've added a couple of solar panels to the existing array and a generator to run the lights, washer and fridge. Sun is only on the panels a few hours each day on these shortest days. This was built as a summer camp. This last trip I got two dogs relocated and a pen built. We have it set up for them to sleep in an old cabover camper (that was filled with garbage that had to be disposed of). We moved over Christmas break about 25 large olive trees (dug from my ranch by my daughter who really good with a backhoe). The clay on the root balls had to be hacked and washed off. An awful job. They are now all planted ten feet back from the fence on the new property. Looks wonderful. Also planted English Laurel along the actual fence and amaryllis belladonna between the road and the fence. Slowly but surely. Again your videos are so encouraging. I plan on spending more time there this summer if I can get more of the animals moved. It is so hot here where I live in California and so much cooler at the new place.

Happy for you guys ! Lovin the pigs ! A tip for others out there, I thought of when you gave us your reassurances on your fence/water stuff. When fencing across a stream, for permanent fence but maybe a way to rig up between 2 stakes, to go with the electric systems, is to use plastic barrels suspended on their sides, to float up & down with the water level, blocking livestock from going under the bottom wire of a fence spanning the stream ( crick ;) . I ADORED this idea, when I saw it in the ( innovation & DIY applauding, ) publication "Farm show" .

I'm vicariously enjoying your happy critters. Also your rain and mud - I'm up to my hips in snow right now, and I hear there's more to come. I miss my chickens, but I sure don't miss shovelling out to their house every day (sometimes twice) all winter! Their house seems a lot further away once the snow starts to add up! I'll see if I can design a better system involving the garage, which is only 3 covered steps from my door. Then I can get chicks this spring - yay!

We just pulled a tick off of a cat - in January in Wisconsin!!! It is going to be a bad year for ticks! You should get a flock of guinnea hens! They just free range around your property and roost up in the trees at night. They do an amazing job keeping the ticks under control AND they will alert you when a predator is nearby!! (We have no ticks on our property - the cat who came home with a tick likes to go hunt in the woods across the road where the guinnea hens dont visit!) Love to watch you guys work your land!!

Ben For the chicken coup mount a hand bar on the lower part on one end and a set of wheels on the other end that can be retractable when it is sitting on the ground making the chicken coup easier to transport by one person .

Hi everyone at Hollar homestead. I just wanted to say that in the seven months (I think it is seven months), that you have been on this homestead you guys have done wonders, that land looks so much different from when you moved in. Kudo's to you all. You both have done so much and the children, bless them. Love the little pigs they are cute. We too are having strange weather here in the UK for this time of year. As you both say it is what it is. Have a great day .

At least the Wind isn't blowing at 20-25 mph and 34° feeling like 25° with Snow and Ice. Heading to you like here in Potomac Highlands of WV. God Bless and Peace Be With You All ☮️ 🙏❣️

We have a friend that make little green houses to grow vegetables for a longer period of time. He makes them out if plastic and wire. Wire is bent into a half circle. Then he adds the plastic over the top. Am amazed at how long it extends the growing season.

I know what you mean about the joy of having woods of your own. We’re on a little island in the Pacific Northwest, and although there are trees and woods all around us, the patch of firs, maples, cedars and ferns and old stumps on our lot are my treasure! Only God can make a tree 🌳
