Thanks for all the comments on the nail pullers but it’s not my design, they already exist and I for the life of me, can not find them in any stores. So I just copied some I’ve used before.

Watching your videos bring me such joy. I live in suburbia and have six 4x8 beds providing me with potatoes, onions, garlic canned tomatoes and sauce, green beans for the year. I also have an abundance of salad/arugula, carrots and radishes through the summer months. I know I’m leaving out some vegies and herbs. It is amazing how much you can grow in a small area. I also have a compost and worm compost area. Such satisfaction with growing my own food. It’s also a great gift to share with friends. Enjoy watching your home and garden progressing and your family expanding.

I'll give you a tip I've had experience with and it works well. If you want to have a supply of salad lettuce all summer. Build a table and put a tent over it from a place like FarmTek and grow the lettuce in pots. It thrives in the shady environment the tent provides and with a couple waterings a day during the dog days of summer it should last all summer.

Agreed that a garden is as essential as brushing your teeth. Raised on a dairy farm, we always had friends and extended family
show up and stay for dinner. We had a table that could sit 14 while us young folks had a smaller table. My family never turned away anyone from that magic time, whether they ate or not. As a rule, after dinner, we went to the large garden and with paper bags ,pots or baskets we picked beets, sweet peas, carrots, green beans, corn, green onions, yellow wax beans, spinach, apples and yellow eyed beans. Picked for an hour and if the bugs got too bad, we raced back to the house. Our friends and family always went home with at least one paper bag stuffed full and a homemade loaf of bread or yeast rolls. Those lessons were well learned and never forgotten and passed on to my two sons. Cheers from Kennebunk Maine.

    Hi guys,
So happy to see how well everything is going for you! Your garden looks great!
I am stuck in suburbia in silicon valley on a small lot and have always grown as much food as I can (which to be be fair is significant amount). This year we have scraped every last square inch away from the few ornamentals that we had left and converted it to growing food. We have also gone all in on containers as well. I estimate we are approximately doubling our food production over previous years.
When top dressing my raised beds and converting the new areas to food production we needed compost (we have miserable hard pan clay soil) so we had 4 cubic yards delivered to my driveway which was 1 yard more than we actually needed. I then told all of my neighbors to bring any pots or makeshift pots over to get some compost and I would give them whatever kind of seeds they wanted to try to grow (I got my seeds several weeks before the great seed run of 2020 plus I have extras from earlier years). I only had 3 takers. I find it sad and more than a bit annoying how few people actually seem to know or care about where their food comes from or how easily it could stop becoming so readily available. I am now growing extra seedlings that I will either give to people or sell when they start realizing that maybe food shouldn't be taken for granted.
My point is that I agree with you 100% about food security. I wish I could move out to the country and have land to grow on but that just can't happen right now. I do what I can with what I have. I joke that I am one chicken away from having a real homestead but my wife won't let me raise chickens on the roof so I guess the homesteading dream will have to wait for me. In the mean time I will have to live vicariously through you guys.
So keep up the great work, keep living the dream for yourselves and for all of us, stay safe and be well! Love and support from California 💛

Watching your boys walk on gravel bare feet, reminds me of when I was a kid, in Rhodesia, running and walking everywhere barefooted, if I tried that today, no go, my feet are very tender (ha ha). So nice to see them grow up like that. They help you so much and they love the homestead, and you treat them like adults, which is wonderful to see.. Love the seed feeder. You guys have come so far in the short time you have been there. Keep it up and take it easy. Meg you look radiant in your pregnancy. I am trying for the first time to grow veg in containers. A few onions and some lettuce and carrots. Going to give potatoes in a bag a try. Hope it goes well. Take care and have a great day.

Great visit to the junk shop. Compost pile on the garden did wonders. 👏🏻 Good to see the boys working with their father.

Properly using a tool is good but being able to make or adapt one to your specific needs is terrific. I am impressed.

I'm so excited, this is the first year we're not in an apartment and have a little slice of growing space! Our beans just started coming up and I cant even explain my joy at seeing the sprouts pop up.

The garden looks lovely! Meg is glowing. And I remember my parents using that kind of seeder :) I'm growing tomatoes/peppers etc for my friends! A video on urban gardening would be lovely for those who don't think they can do it.
