You guys can do it. You are looking at it wrong. You said " its been two years since you left California and this is all the farther you have gotten". You have only been on your homestead 6 months. You had a TON of clearing & cleaning up & out all of the trash, tires and junk. Besides getting a mower running and doing the fields & yard. Setting up Bumblewood and fixing everything for Ben's shop too. Then you had to empty the pod, get chickens, create a coop & run. Build a stall and set up for your pigs. Get fencing and set that up. Get more chickens and mobile fencing. Clear land & plant a garden, set up raised beds, and plant those. Then build a firepit and a smoker. You helped friends, went to conferences, went back to California, went to Disney, emptied your storage unit, loaded and sent your POD to North Carolina. Helped friends 3 more times. Fixed water, set up your camper & got it ready for winter, worked on the single wide trailer a few times. Cleared more brush, made berries into jam. processed your garden goods. fixed meals everyday. Repaired things around the homestead, set up the boys pool. Made tons and tons of soap, processed chickens. processed orders for soap. Celebrated holidays. Do you really think you haven't gotten much done in ONLY 6 MONTHS !?! It wears me out just typing ALL that you have gotten done. I'm so very PROUD of all the work you have done on your homestead in SUCH A SHORT 6 MONTHS. Please go slower, PACE yourselves, this is not a SPRINT. Homesteading is a marathon, it takes a lifetime. We all want everything done, organized, built, and pretty. But it can't happen in a week, you are not GOD. Slow down, take breaks, buy a little here & there for a project, then when you have it all, do that project. There is no shame in not having ton's of money or an unfinished project. You are just getting started. Baby steps, just like the baby does to walk. After a few years you can run.

Thank you Julie B. Like I posted & I've told Ben & Meg in many posts they are kicking butt on getting things done on thier homestead. If I had been able to start my homestead when I was going to we would have been starting at the same time. Deaths have stopped me. But I have been cheering for Meg & Ben. Trying to let them know that they have been working like gangbusters getting things done. If it was my homestead I would still be at square #1. I hope they realize they are FAR ahead of the game.

One project you need to get up and running is an inflexible daily 15 minute block of time to just sit down together and breathe. It will help save your sanity and possibly your lives. No cheating, 15 min. Without fail. Love from N.H., Patricia 👵🏻 🤗 🥰

Very well said! They have got so much done is such a short amount of time its insane. I've been on my homestead for 3 years and havn't even got animals yet.. Still trading wood for meat and trying to stay warm in an unfinished house. Though I do understand that it is hard to pace ourselves in the beggining. I have 6 months of winter to slow me down. If I didn't have 3 feet of snow pacing me down, god knows how much more I woud be doing around the homestead. I think I would burn out for sure.

Ben and Meg, this isn’t a TH-cam race, and there is no “finish line” - your homestead will always be a work in progress, something else you want to change, a new project you want to tackle, or whatever. You don’t have to do it all at once. Do it at your own pace, you don’t owe anyone an explanation, and remember you are already living that life worth living! Your supporters will watch whatever content you do provide, and continue to encourage and support you! Much love from the Green Mountain 🏔 State 💚💚

We as viewers are heavily invested in the wonderful snippets we see of your life you so generously shared. The idea of a rural homesteading life is both a romantic and healthy lifestyle changes are the dreams of our futures as the idea of returning to the simple lifestyles of our forebears. However starting from scratch on undeveloped land that has been partly cleared and used as an extensive rubbish dump by the previous owners is a challenge. Reality bites when the existing buildings prove to be considerably more problematical than expected.
Adding to the stress is the need for 6 people to live in an older RV through the varying seasons whilst following a home school education plan. And of course there are your two businesses to reopen as well.
In addition finances are limited as 2019 was the second optional unemployment following 2018 spent travelling USA looking and working for other You Tubers.
If you added up the scores on life stress test it would be heading to the danger zone.
I am glad you recognised and addressed the fatigue and blues and acted on those quickly. Yes we relish the vlogs but we will understand if these are not priority one. We will be grateful for the times your share as we follow the changes ahead. Thinking of you daily. Warm wishes and hugs sent from”down under”.

We bought a farm too, moved from a mega city to the country and had to redo the farm house before we could live in it. Lived in a camper with our 4 kids.... Thought we had good bones.... 🧐 What could go wrong did on levels we never imagined did. Ugh. In the mean time we have gardened, and raised animals and kids and 2 Christmases. It's a lot and you have to weigh quality of life with all the work that is always there. Oh to live from a place of maintenance. Yes please Jesus. 🙏Not yet though. It's not the season. Ecclesiastes. Everything has a season. And each hurdle as my aunt would say... You are making memories 🥰

Saw this video pop up and I dropped everything to watch. Ya'll are one of my favorite TH-cam channels! I really respect the pay as you go method, but something to think about is that living through construction is extremely stressful, even for resilient people such as yourselves. The longer your construction project drags on, the more it can weigh on you. You are very good-hearted, conscientious people and I bet that if you did a GoFundMe as mentioned by a previous commenter, that you would be able to raise your funds, and pay it forward doing good for others..........just something to think about. I would definitely be in for that. You have given me so much happiness and joy watching these videos that it would be a privilege to get to support you continuing to make videos!

I disagree. This is their choice. Many ppl live within their income, like myself and its not anyone else's responsibility to create income for them. When did living within your income become a "problem" to be overcome? They don't have the money to build what they want now, End of story. They chose to have kids, they chose to not have day jobs, they chose all of this. It doesn't have to be good, bad, virtuous or penance, it just is. If everyone asks to be crowd funded, less and less ppl with give. My two cents. Building a homestead from the rubble up is a lifetimes work. Ask Joel Salatin and every pioneer who cam before him.

Considering the epic scale of what you set out to do, I’m only ever impressed.
Just the garbage on the land that you have had to tackle.....that has been astounding (for several reasons).
Then add 4 kids who are homeschooled, 2 pigs with litter, lots of chickens, and not one house but three to manage organize clean renovate, plus two home businesses, a massive garden, a need for infrastructure updates all over the place. All with a tight budget... oh, and let’s not forget to top all that off with a dedicated homesteading TH-cam channel and all the editing and media involved. All this over holidays and middle of the “dormant season of rest”.
    I mean, wow.
As long as you are having fun, taking time, feeling good about what you’re up to, I will enjoy watching.
I would even love to see a video with you just knitting by the fire. Making knives. Etc.

I have so much respect and admiration for you both. Most of us watching can commiserate with you both! In October of last year we paid someone to put a brand new septic system in and septic field. ( Homeowner who sold us the house forgot to mention it was done for! ) So, after paying the plumber and septic company 7k we thought everything was good to go. We later found out that they had hooked in only one bathroom into the system and that left the other one and our kitchen still hooked to the old system. Needless to say, it has been a battle to get them to come back out and finish the job as they are saying that it was our fault. LOL!! The Plumber and Septic company never looked at the entire house to see how many lines needed to be hooked up but it was our fault. Can't make this stuff up.
We all probably know your pain, one way or another!
Keep moving forward and take one day at a time. What you have is worth more than all the money in the world and in the end, once you are done with your home, you will have gained far more than you lost.
Sending much love and prayers for divine intervention!

When I first moved into my new home, it took a whole year to fix it up. New flooring, countertops, painted cabinets, painted walls and decor. The next year, I focused on the garden. Year three, I got chickens. I’m going on year four and it’s now starting to feel like the homestead I envisioned. There is no rush. You all have done so much already. Pigs, chickens, landscaping and garden prep, TH-cam and you’re running a business from your home...dude, you’re busy. Oh and homeschooling! That’s A LOT already. Take your time. ❤️❤️

We decided two years ago to “remodel” our broken down little house. Every room needed attention. We hired a company to do it, and we moved out. We needed to empty the whole house (40 years of accumulated stuff). Every stinking thing needed to be taken out. My husband stepped off the porch and tore something in his knee and had surgery. He spent most of this crucial time in a bed in a Marriott with our dog. So the emptying of the house was all me. It was the most stressful time of my life. The most work, the heaviest crap to lift, box and pack. Every inch of our old house was cleared of stuff. Not to mention our ancient garage. It took 7 months to get our house ready to move back into. We spent those months living with our daughter. We miraculously survived. You have each other to lean on. You are both talented and hard-working. Determined. And you have the grace to recognize when you need to step back and take care of yourselves. I don’t really want to compare our circumstances of remodeling. But I do know how the stress of it can make one wild with irritation and unhappy with the pace. Take care, you lovely people. Stay focused on the most important thing - your mental health. Your joy. Your success. We’ll always be here for you (peppermint lip balm). ❤️❤️
