    I was always worried to prune mine during the summer (phoenix) so it’s good to know it won’t stress the plant. Thank you

    Love your video. First year I have a pink Jazmine, and even though did not flower this summer, looks very healthy. The trimming you just did applies to a pink Jazmine variety too? Thanks for your reply.

    Oh, I needed this three weeks ago. :) We have three and went crazy on one and totally cut off the bottom and didn't know. So I was left with just the top portion. My hubby laughed so much, I think he cried. Oh well, I have two more and I'll be careful this time. Thanks for the video, Nell!

      Susana - You're very welcome. As I said, Star Jasmines are forgiving when it pruning. At least your husband was entertained! Nell

    Glad I watched this. I'm in Phoenix so I wonder if Star Jasmine is a good idea for me to plant to cover a CMU fence wall that has full sun all day? Burn? I was considering Green Hopseed bush as an alternate.

    Hello. I'm so glad that I found your video because I recently purchased a Star Jasmine last month in May that was in a temporary pot. I have put the Star Jasmine in a new pot. I noticed in a short time, about 2 weeks or so, the nice smelling flowers stopped flowering now that we are in June. I heard you mention in your video that the best time to prune this plant is when it stops flowering. Since my Star Jasmine is still new and there's not a lot to prune right now, what shall I do with it? Any suggestions will be helpful as this is my first Star Jasmine.
    Thanks 😊

    My star jasmine trellises (3) went through a hard freeze this past winter, (northern Florida) I had to cut some of the main branches halfway down to find life in that branch. Is it best to totally remove that branch all the way to the ground as now it looks very odd, and does not wrapped around any of the trellis. They need help!😩

    Charming! I really enjoyed your cat and the commentary about the cactus flower. I look forward to next time I visit the desert finding one in bloom. Meanwhile, I have a star jasmine in Canada, and it blooms all summer (July, August) into the fall!
    Could you please leave an image as to what this looked like in the following season? Did it fill in as you expected?

    I THINK the star jasmine plant is what I have. Mine is in my greenhouse, still in the nursery pot. It is about 1or 2 hardiness zones too tender to be planted into my yard. But, fine in my greenhouse. I think I am late to prune it for great blooms next spring, BUT, I may just prune it anyway in spring, it will get too big for being potted if I don't. I really think it WILL bloom on new growth,. it had bloomed last year on new growth. Mine needs repotted BADLY. It was in need of repotting when I bought it this past spring from Lowes. It was in the section where the house plants were, although it is hardier than everything else there, I THINK it's a zone 8 plant. I am not 100% sure though. The flowers smelled great, that I do remember.

    Thank you for this lovely piece on Star Jasmine. Mine, growing in large pot, think roots have gone through pot into ground now. My Jasmine was growing on ivy which was growing on the fence, on replacing the fence I managed to save the Jasmine, thought it must dye but it recovered and flowered! However, having been pulled off the Ivy climbing up the fence it has fallen into itself & is very tangled together, still flowered though! How can I rectify this please?

    I live in Tucson and have three star Jasmine vines. I planted them about two years ago and they are not growing well. They are in full sun and are set on a drip system. The drip is on 5 days days a week for 1-hour. How often do you water your jasmine?

    Hello, thanks for the videos! I have a question regarding bougainvillea. I am trying to grow mine on a garage wall. I was thinking I can create a Belgium trellis pattern and attempt to train. I was looking in the all the usual places for examples but no luck. Is there a reason why this isn't done? Thanks!

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lindsay - I lived in Southern California for 10 years & never saw bougainvillea in that pattern. Other plants, but not bougainvillea. It gets so much growth off the main stems that I imagine it would be a lot of maintenance in terms of pruning. As the woody stems age, they aren't quite as pliable. Nell

    HI Nell- Trey from Georgia here.
    We’ve got some star jasmine growing on the deck. Humid temps in the summer, nice spring and fall. How many times a week should we be watering and how long? 15 minutes?
    Great videos and material. Mazeltov

      I live in south ga and never water mine. Its in full sun and its a monster. I have to prune mine atleast once a month.
      If yours is in a pot I would say saturate the soil once or twice a week. If you have it in the ground I would water it in a staged process twice a week until its fully established and growing crazy.
      Soak the ground let it rest and soak the ground again for a total of 10 mins.

    • @ev6625
      @ev6625 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same! We are in middle Ga, but don’t ever water ours. They’re in full sun and did great over the summer, but are definitely needing a big pruning before the temps warm up again.

    Hello Nell, I don't own a jasmine vine but this was very informative. I wish I could send you my gardenia plant so you could help me rescue it for me lol thanks for sharing love

    • @JoyUsGarden
      @JoyUsGarden  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - You're not alone in your struggle with a gardenia plant because they can be tricky to grow indoors (where i assume it is). The lack of humidity is a big factor. My mom loved them so we had a few growing in our greenhouse. Boy did they ever give off a sweet scent! Nell

    when you started to grow it, did you have to tie it to the trellis you have. or does it just climb a trellis on its own. if i just lean it against it?
